Boom Goes the Doc
The NSA sent their top agent to protect Emma, Malory Blaize. She made Emma uncomfortable. Mal stalked around in the Apple Store. She was a new associate, She however was not too much into tech, so she took to being a sort of bouncer at the door.
Mal spotted a kid looking at an Apple Watch display and caught him trying to take the display model. She tackled him just outside the door, and Emma chased after her. "Blaize, Blaize, Blaize. No, no, no, no, no. No, no, no, no. It's just a watch, okay? Lives are not in danger, and the country is still safe. " Emma said, trying to calm the mercenary.
Ruby looked at Mal with a weary expression. "Damn, This girl's been here 24 hours and she's taking the job way more seriously than me."
Emma watched Mal stalk back to her station and let out a breath. "That's because she's crazy." She said making sure security had the kid, and took the AppleWatch back into the store; back to the Genius desk.
"Tell me something I don't know." Ruby intoned. Turning to the kid being arrested. "Oh, hey, buddy. Nice to see you again, pal. Huh? You're not so tough now, are you? Oh, you don't like that, huh?"
Regina was also stationed nearby. She was to pose as Emma's girlfriend. Her girlfriend who worked at the Cheesecake Factory on the other side of the lot from the Apple store. The aforementioned girlfriend walked into the Apple store and Kissed Emma's lips softly. "Regina, what, uh... what are you doing here?" Emma stated and stood aside with her.
"I work across the street, Emma." She said then looked around the store. "I just thought I'd say hello."
"Why are you working there?" Emma asked allowing Regina to wrap her arms around her neck. She placed tentative hands on her hips as Regine whispered in her ear.
"Surveillance. I can monitor the Apple Store from there while you work."
Emma blushed involuntarily then wrapped her arms around her a little more. "It's just a cover. Right? Emma asked nervously. "a part of the plan. 'Cause there's a plan, right? I mean, uh, you waiting tables isn't exactly the reason why you joined the CIA, and Blaize isn't a natural-born apple saleswoman, and the whole kinda government-secrets-locked-in-my-brain thing, uh, that's, I'm sure, not really a boon for national security, so I'm hoping, I mean, I'm hoping that you'll tell me that there's a plan? "
Regina smiled. "We have a plan. There is somebody who can help. We can discuss it further tonight. How about another date?" She asked and pulled back and took Emma's hands. "I can pick you up at 8:00."
Emma nodded, "Yeah. Yeah, that sounds... I'd like that." She took a deep breath and stepped back from the intoxicating woman that had just been in her arms. "That sounds great. I'll, uh, I'll see you."
Retina smiled a sultry smile and stepped out of the store, "Emma is in. Send the doctor." She said into her communicator as she hustled to the Cheesecake factory.
Emma knew she had to make the night's outing look really good. Like she actually had a girlfriend now. So she had to put in the effort. She reached into Kathryn's closet for a metallic shirt that draped low on her back. "Hey, sis, what do you think of this shirt?" Emma asked coming out of Kathryn's closet.
"I love it, considering it's mine. " Kathryn said looking at her sister. She smirked "Another date with Regina. This is very exciting."
Emma sighed, she didn't want to let Kathryn get too attached to Regina. "We'll see, it's not that big a deal."
"Yes, it is," Ruby said coming out of Emma's room. The two blondes turned to the brunette. "Hey, she is hot. Jeepers. I'd go with the first shirt, too. It looks really nice with your skin tone."
Emma was the first to acknowledge Ruby's opinion. "Oh, yeah?"
"Wait a minute-" Kathryn said, turning Emma to face her. "Ruby has met her, and I haven't?"
"Well... yeah, she confides in me, Kath." Ruby said reaching into the fruit bowl on the kitchen island and taking a bite of an apple. "You know? She-she tells me her deepest," Ruby got closer to her best friend's sister and tried to flirt. "darkest secrets, which you could, too, by the way."
Kathryn glares at Ruby. "I loathe you."
"That's not a secret." Emma mumbled.
Kathryn turned back to her sister. "I need to meet this girl. Tomorrow night. Dinner. Here. " She stated not giving Emma much of a choice.
"A little too soon to be seeing the Xena poster, don't you think?" Ruby protested. "Not exactly a natural aphrodisiac." Kathryn turned her glare at Ruby.
"Dinner. Perfect. I'll clear my schedule."
Regina and Blaize had coordinated a drop off of the NSA's top scientist to remove the government secrets from Emma's head. The two agents had set up the back room of the Apple store, as a testing ground for the Dr. "Operation Emma," They called it.
Emma waited just outside her Echo park Apartment building, and Regina pulled up. "Get in."
Emma looked at Regina's beautiful black Benz. "Cheesecake Factory really pays well, huh?" she said and stepped into the car. "Uh, what are we, uh, what are we doing? We're going to, uh, like, a movie or some dinner?"
"Not exactly," Regina stated cryptically.
"What, what does, "not exactly" mean, exactly?" Emma asked.
She didn't answer. She just drove on, when they got to the Apple store Regina finally explained. "There's a doctor coming to see you, Emma." The brunette led her straight to the back of the store and inside the manager's office. Cloaking the room in darkness except for a monitor. "He worked on the encoding process for the intersect, the computer that Daniel destroyed, the one that's in your head. He's coming to examine you."
Emma nodded. "Uh-huh, uh, and-and does this examination involve, say, I don't know, needles or perhaps probing of some kind?" the blonde asked nervously.
"The doctor is our best shot at helping you," Regina answered, strapping some wires on Emma. "It's what you want, right? To get the secrets out of your head?"
Emma looked at her and found something unreadable crossed her features. "Yeah. Yeah, of course. But you-you still... you're still being very vague about the probing, and I'd like to know the answer to that."
"We've rewired the back room for this test. When the images start, just say what they are." Regina stated matter of fact. The door opened again and Blaize walked into the room.
"That's it?" Emma asked.
"I'm sure you'll find a way to screw it up," Blaize stated then turned to Regina. "The doctor's here."
"When do I get to meet him?" Emma asked, looking between the two agents.
"You don't," Regina stated as the two stepped out of the room. "It's important that he doesn't see you. You're too valuable."
"Thanks. I'm flattered," Emma said and yelled out the last few words as the door closed behind them. "and totally freaked out."
In the other room, the two agents walked in. "Dr. Whale?" Mal stated pulling the blindfold off of the man.
"Agent Blaize." The doctor said looking at Mal and then at Regina. "Agent Mills."
"Thank you for meeting us at a neutral site," Regina stated.
"Let's begin." Dr. Whale said, setting up his equipment. "I don't understand why I can't see my patient."
"For your safety" Regina stated. "we're keeping Patient X's identity a secret."
Whale looked around the room, it was evident that he was at a place where apple products were sold, if not an actual apple store. "Does patient x work here?"
Mal laughed, "Patient X, who knows all the intersect secrets-works in an Apple Store? Ridiculous."
Dr. Whale looked at the mercenary and didn't believe a word she said. "Of course." He said and turned to his equipment. "After the tone, the test will begin."
In the manager's office, Emma waited for the Tone and started to repeat what she saw on the screen as she was told. "uh... dog. Uh, hippopotamus. Fat guy. Ugly building. Really beautiful woman at the beach…."
Suddenly in front of her was a picture of a yellow rose at the Whitehouse Rose garden and her eyes focused on something far away. She almost went crosseyed and a dumb expression went over her face. And she started to spew a litany of secrets. "Cardinal one is the top Moscow spy in the White House Office of... the plot to assassinate president carter was orchestrated by... Northrop Davis voting computers have been approved by the DNC, RNC, and CIA. Oceanic flight 815 was shot down by surface-to-air... work on subterranean... beneath Denver international airport has reached phase four. Benedictine agents within the Vatican report... assassin still active... been approved by the DNC, RNC, and CIA. scenario five is... okay, well, that's just a picture of a turtle."
Whale sat there astonished. "Your patient is phenomenal. We never imagined this."
Regina furrowed her brows and turned to the Dr. "What didn't you imagine?"
Whale cleared his throat and stated, "One person seeing all the intersect images. All our secrets in one mind."
Blaize was skeptical as well and folded her arms over her chest. "Can you remove the secrets, doctor?"
Whale nodded. "Yes. I think I can."
The ride back to Echo Park was quiet. Regina was not forthcoming about the results of the test, and Emma was going insane with not knowing what was happening. She turned to her girlfriend and finally asked. "So, did I pass the test?"
"You did great, Emma," Regina answered.
"And this doctor guy-he can fix me or... ?"
Regina smiled. She had a suspicion about the guy. Something didn't feel right and usually, her gut feeling was right. "Uh, he's hopeful, yeah," she answered the blonde and resolved to keep a closer eye on her charge.
"Okay," Emma said as Regina parked in front of her building. She moved to get out then remembered. "Oh, uh, I almost forgot. Uh... dinner tomorrow night with my sister and her boyfriend Captain awesome. She really wanted to meet you."
Regina nodded. "Okay, well, that's a good idea."
"Meeting the family's kind of a big step if our relationship were remotely real," Emma said hoping Regina would put a boundary up in this fake relationship. "So, uh, if this whole examination thing, if it works out, then I guess... we're through, huh?"
Regina nodded. "Uh, yeah. Mm-hmm."
Emma nodded. "Okay. Well, good night."
"Good night," Regina said softly the guilt of what she will have to do with Emma once the intersect is out, beginning to gnaw at her.
Emma turned to get out and right before she closed the door to the benz she said. "Oh, and, uh... just so you know... um... tonight was probably the best... only second date I've been on in years." There was an awkward pause, as Emma contemplated planting a kiss on the woman's cheek and decided against it, and just closed the door. "Drive safe."
Meanwhile, Dr. Whale was driving over the Hollywood hills, when there was a call to his device. Then an Explosion….
The next morning, Emma is deep in a slumberland. Her dreams were filled with a certain brunette that she is really trying not to think about. When a knock on the door wakes her up all the way. She groaned and covered her head as her Sister walked into the room holding a newspaper. "Did you see this?"
"Atwh?" Emma said, sitting up in bed.
"Did you know that Daniel was dead?" Kathryn asked, looking at her sister as if she were fragile.
"No. No, I didn't." Emma said though she did not look surprised.
"Well, are you okay?" Kathryn asked, still checking for her sister's mental state. Not knowing of course that Emma had processed his death already.
"I don't know," Emma said and got up out of bed. "Um... yeah, I don't know. It's crazy. I, uh, I spent so much time hating him for getting me kicked out of Stanford, I don't know, really, how to feel, but it's hard to be mad at him now."
"I'm really sorry, Emma."
Kathryn walked out and Emma picked up the paper. Now that she saw it in print, it made the whole thing more real.
Meanwhile, Mal and Regina are at the scene of the explosion. Both tried to figure out what caused it and exactly who had done this to the good doctor.
Mal stepped away and called her superiors. "Yeah, hey, it's Blaize. I'm at the scene. No sign of Whale's body. Probably vaporized. I guess those secrets are staying in Emma's head." she stated.
On the other side of the car wreckage, Regina is listening to the conversation and found the culprit. The detonator that she knows is an NSA contraption. She looked around and reached into her pocket for a baggie. She picked the charred phone up and placed it inside. Then hid it in her coat pocket.
Then she stood and looked over at Blaize. "Well... no sign of anything here."
"It looks like we're sending the good doctor home in an ashtray," Mal stated looking at Regina suspiciously.
"Okay, well," Regina said, heading toward her car. "I've got tables to wait."
Mal nodded and headed toward her car. "And I've got some iPads to sell."
Once in her car, Regina pulls out the detonator, not noticing Mal's ever-watchful eye on her. She looks suspicious, and Mal picks up her phone to dial her superior again. "Feels like a CIA job to me."
"Keep your eye on agent Mills." General Mills stated, "And don't let Emma out of your sight. She could be next."
