Chapter 02: An 'Intern' of Human Resources Department

HR Offices, Rhodes Island Landship

8-hour Day Shift

7:30 am, April 03, 109X

(7 weeks after Watchtower 33 incident)

[INTRO]

Orchid is currently briefing a new intern from that new group that arrived from Sargon a few weeks before. He was quite weird, this new intern, as he arrived late for the briefing carrying small books along with a few notepads and pencils. Upon checking up on his attendance, she finally noticed that this new arrival has no animal-like features that were common in Sargon, maybe an Aegir but it was still lacking a few tentacles slipping from the clothes. The intern gave her a note stating:

Operator Blitz has requested various basic languages and translations books from the library for his internship. He will need this as to 'not hinder the HR staff due to language barriers' in the duration of his internship.

Kindly allow him to use this resources openly during his internship.

General Management Department

Orchid was surprised that this Blitz was able to find assistance from Management this early on his stay at Rhodes Island. Before she could ask, an alarm was sounded announcing the start of the day shift. Blitz was guided to his cubicle in the office and Orchid proceed to brief the intern of his duties and responsibilities during his tenure at HR.

The 1st few hours was easy enough, Orchid was the talking to the applicants and employees while Blitz was the one who delivers and arrange the papers needed for processing. It was an efficient process since Orchid (and the rest of HR teams) barely have assistants and have to do process every personnel's data files manually. Blitz and his pseudo-Victorian accent, along with his cheery behaviour, gave the office some much needed good vibes which was necessary since most employees were infected who work under compensations such as faster medical access and care.

[Getting to know]

Lunch break was announced and a few employees started to leave for the cafeteria. Orchid, Blitz and 2 more employees settled on a cleared office table and have a meal while talking about this morning happenings. Everyone was surprised on how well Blitz was able to answer the questions clearly and able to ask questions on how to improve his skills. He said that he was a linguist (a very rare profession given the political climate on Terra) before participating in some police force. He also noted that he requested this position as an intern instead of an employee since he needed more time to update himself with the current languages instead of using PRTS translation inputs like any other employee. He then spent the rest of the break in his cubicle reading and taking notes on his translation efforts while the rest take a short nap.

Orchid wished for more good mannered employees like Blitz, since she was always dealing with a wide variety of personalities like that often make the workplace (and Rhodes Island in general) chaotic. Even the infected nobles from various families were very rowdy when insulted for minor infractions.

Orchid and the rest of HR finally noticed that Blitz was a non-infected person sharing a meal with them. He adjusted way too fast and didn't give any insulting action, while proficient in assisting them with documentation. If Blitz was being nice to them, Orchid will need to be nice to him as well. She then decided to assign Blitz as a translator during the remaining interviews for the day as to give him practice on his linguistic skills.

[Providing performance]

As the intern prepares the documents for the next applicants, Orchid prepares herself for the final set of interviews. Looking good is part of her forte since she was in the modeling industry before getting infected, which is helpful on alleviating the pressure during this part of the interviews. Blitz also prepares himself to look decent (if not already sharpish) after he arranged the documents and drinks at the table. They all sit in their respective seats as Orchid orders another HR employee to let the applicants in.

-The Sargonian Tribesman/Male/Lizardman-

The first one was a Sargonian Tribesman adorned only with his tribal clothes and tattoos painted all over his scales, with an entry recommendation from the Great chief of his tribe along with a separate notations from Medical staff member Gavial:

He is just another of Tomimi's followers. KINDLY call me if it his turn for the interview. Gavial

Blitz was already on the phone the moment he read the memo. Looks like he has an idea already when it comes to Gavial and her group, Orchid thought as she also guides the lizardman(?) to the seat.

The tribesman was demanding to return their 'Chief Candidate Gavial' to her rightful place at Sargon and to stop Rhodes Island on poisoning the traditions of the land. His alligator tail slams hard at the fall to emphasize his statement. Orchid was trying to calm the tribesman and told him that Gavial was already notified. Luckily, the tribesman behaved himself as Blitz offers him a glass of water in a Sargonian language.

The tribesman laughed hard as he grabs the glass and finishes it in one gulp. He then stated the Blitz was maybe one of those noted intruders from Northern Sargon as a recently appointed lord reported an incident involving mercenaries that were not Sarkaz nor any local races assisting the infected on evacuating them away from combat zones during a rebellion of sorts. They were instrumental in not only saving the town from unidentified creatures but also destroyed the source of the threat, yet they only accepted minimal rewards and left as if they were wind. The tribesman then pointed at Blitz, saying that he looks like the one that the new lord was describing, the one that often speaks and negotiates to the villagers in their local tongue. But the tribesman laughed and concluded that Blitz could not be the one being described, being small and weak looking.

Orchid looked at Blitz in silence. She did read the team RAINBOW's application files and the Watchtower 33 incident before it was archived, so to confirm those unnatural events from an outsider was a confirmation that this 'intern' was more than what he looks right now. Blitz however just shrugged as if it was a normal occurrence and return to his seat.

A few minutes later, Gavial arrives still in her white medical uniform. Before the lizardman could stand up and speak, she sucker punched the poor soul a few times stopping only to confirm he is knocked out. She then carried the man by the tail, apologized to the HR team, and then promptly left the office. Blitz asked if this was a normal situation in regards to this Gavial and her clanmates, the rest of the HR team only nodded before they prepare the room for the next applicant.

-An observer from Leterano-

The new arrival was a female Liberi with another recommendation. Sent from the Pope of Laterano, tasked to observe and assist Rhodes Island. Orchid's mood soured almost immediately as she explained that this was her 8th application, along with notations that the recommendation was forged. She then picked up the phone, requesting for an "Executor" to come to the HR offices for observation duties.

Blitz offered refreshments to the laddie while they wait, when she noticed a holstered pistol along with 2 magazines safely secured on an accessory on his belt. No engravings nor personal decorations, modifications were functional despite assuming a new (often monotone) model from Blacksteel industries. A security personnel for a HR office? With this few applicants? The laddie thought as she assumed as a well-dressed mercenary was another new hires from the "doctor" directly recommends from time to time.

The operator Executor arrived along with his assumed partner (ironically) called Enforcer as representatives of the Lateran faith. Orchid provided them with the repeat applicant's papers and after a few discussions, were to take over the interview. Orchid and Blitz were allowed to stay both as Rhodes Island representatives and translator respectively.

They started speaking in their local language in a very loud, arguing manner as she presents a list of presumably basic profiles of people to observe. They were talking so fast that Orchid barely keeps up on the basic understanding of the argument, Blitz however was just taking notes of the meeting with a serious look on his face. Orchid asks Blitz on what were they arguing about, Blitz presented his notes to her as he continue to listen to the ongoing argument. It writes:

In-action of current Laterano observers in regards to:

-The lax of restrictions imposed to the owner of a lock and key(?) staff user, along with current interaction of said person to certain Rhodes Island partner companies producing unknown risks.

-Current lack of information of the new 'R6 team" deployed from Sargon. Details were submitted by the 'Doctor' to the representatives. Little was explained about its personnel and nationalities. Executor counter-argues that such a new team exists but it still green, under assessment and will probably be a Landship exclusive combat team.

-Lack of observation reports on Blacksteel opera… (Writing was cut here)

Orchid returned the notes to Blitz as he continue to write hastily on what he missed. This Girl! Orchid thought as this was the reason why she rejected the girl's applications to stay on the landship. At least Executor agreed by that the current status of team Rainbow be discreet and minimal. The head of the Medical Department was always sudden on her announcements that the 'doctor' was the one providing context to others as to why to avoid further confusion. This often ends with a REAL risk of him being working (note: detained) in his office for a few more hours under Kal'sit's supervision.

Executor and Enforcer stands up and prepares to escort a defeated laddie, assumedly away from the landship. Blitz suddenly asks a question in their local dialect, which surprised everyone in the room. Executor just nodded and then bid Orchid farewell as they walk behind the laddie as leave the room. Orchid asks on what Blitz just said, he then just shrugged and said that if they want the 'minutes' of that argument to be submitted to them. Orchid just smiles and gave him permission to use the office equipment as she prepares to clean the room.

-Crashing in at the last minute-

Everyone was clearing their cubicles since it is less than 30 minutes left before the shift ends when a rowdy red-horned lady with weapons and equipment still on her sides. She announces that a friend of hers was coming and she will fill her application form. Orchid talks to the sudden visitor as Blitz prepares the forms. The lady notices Blitz as he gave her the forms and introduced herself as W, then asks on how did he acquired the gun. She was about to grab holstered pistol when Blitz announces himself as well as his position as an Intern and a linguist. She then speaks in an old Kazdel dialect which contains outward insults but in a way of a greeting. Blitz steps back a bit and answers her in a same but broken Kazdel dialect that he picked up the insult and told her in Victorian to watch her tongue.

The room was suddenly under tense atmosphere as W's laugh was louder than usual. She then requests a practice session when he has the time, pointing at the weapon that he has. Orchid tries to intervene but Blitz answers if his team leader agrees and after their combat assessment that he details is still in an unknown date. W calls him a coward and then proceed to ignore him as she fills up an application form.

Blitz returned to his cubicle but was wary of the red lady. The 'doctor' and Amiya did brief them that there were problematic persons under Rhodes Island employ due to circumstances, so he just assumes she is one of them. He will just have to tell Ash and Amiya about this later as he compile his books and notes.

W finished filling up the forms and was about to leave when the alarm rang, announcing an end for Blitz's first day as an intern. W notices him leaving as he carry the books on hand, laughing at the irony of seeing another combatant armed while carrying books. Blitz just shrugged and with a smile, he answered a simple quote spoken in the same broken Kazdel dialect earlier:

A pen maybe mightier than a sword, but it never hurts arm yourself with both.

Blitz then cheerfully bid the HR team goodbye as he leaves the office.

Why did he apply as an Intern when he can actually work in this office with that kind of efficiency?! Sure, he is also working with his team at the Control center along with Amiya and his is still undergoing assessment but can someone be this skilled as a combat operator?! And with such a short notice, being able to understand and even speak multiple dialects was already making an impression everyone, even W was stunned on whatever he said to her!

I will be writing this notation as an early recommendation for operator Blitz to be more than efficient enough to formally work in the Human Resources Department.

Doctor's Zero sanity(ish) moment

Now, Kal'sit. You do know that making a sudden announcement makes operations here messy, especially if you don't give them context and assume that they will follow it blindly. Ey, ey, ey, don't be angry at me! Listen, we need to make our objectives clear if we are going to strive as a company, locking documents isn't one of them. At least team RAINBOW can cover themselves but what you just did aroused suspicion from our friends.

Try to do this kinds of things less, even if it is THAT important. We need to make more allies especially with our incoming operations are definitely getting difficult. Being open to them is one of those ways.

Besides, you lose your beautiful face if you frown yourself… Why did you summon that thing? What did I do to offend you this time? I'm sorry OK?! Why is that color in that syringe glowing?!

Writer's notes:

I was able to finish the EX stages (along with their respective challenge modes) currently available at the Il Sirracussano event. Was not able to bring Frost and Tachanka much, but Blitz was the one dealing with that agent-47 rip-off when he appears every stage with support from The Radiant Knight's S2M3 heli-drop stun+damage skill. Lappland was the VIP for me in this event despite her back story during this event (like Sheesh, that second skill of hers is scary good.) I am currently just farming rocks as I prepare my Orundum for the next collab event.

As for how I wrote this time… yeah.. I humbly confess that I experimented on how I write my tales this time. The Story references were easy but retelling them was a very different story, so I tried the outsiders' report approach. Not having to 'speaking dialogues' were hard to translate as I had to describe the details properly (as I can) on every scene. I do hope it works.
