Notes: Gee... this chapter was rather hard to write, but I finally pushed through, hopefully with a decent outcome :P
Something's Wrong
"Allison, try to calm down, what's going on?" Asked Luther gripping her shoulders after gently pushing her away.
As soon as she had opened the door of her house, her eyes had filled with tears and she had clung to him crying out loud. He had spent around five minutes in that same position unable to make her calm down or say a word. After a while Ray had just whispered to give her time and nodded at him and everyone waiting outside to move inside the house, assuming that the two he didn't know, were the brother and the woman Allison had mentioned that morning.
"I-It's Five!" She mumbled between sobs.
Luther's expression immediately darkened and he tightened his grip on her shoulders, "Did he hurt you!?"
"What?" asked Allision forgetting how Luther felt about their brother at that moment.
Diego just needed to hear Five's name to simmer in rage as well. He strode towards them clasping his healthy fist. "Let me guess, Five messed with you guys too?" He growled, "get in line because I have a lot to complain about that little asshole!"
"You too? What did he do, did he kill a friend of yours too?" murmured Luther side-eying Allison.
"No, he broke my fingers trying to stop me from cutting off Oswald's trigger finger," Diego snapped showing his bandaged hand.
"What?" Luther asked a little confused by Diego's train of thought.
"Yeah, the frickin' psycho went all out against me!"
"Hm… I kinda feel like he'd be dead if Five hadn't pulled his punches at him," commented Ben to a rather distracted Klaus.
"See? I told you he had gone full psycho!" Luther said turning his eyes to a still tearful Allison that could only stare at them speechlessly.
"Listen man, screw Five, you've got to help me stop Oswald, Allison told me you work for Jack Ruby, right?"
"Yeah sure… maybe we could join forces and—"
"Uh, guys?" Intervened Klaus after Ben had forced him to look at Allison's upset demeanor.
"Shut up Klaus, we're talking about important things here," spoke Diego without looking at him.
"No, YOU SHUT UP!" Came Allison's voice surprising all of them. "Five… he saved me," she declared breaking again into sobs.
"…What? When?" asked Diego frowning.
Klaus stood up and hurried to her trying to find any injury, "what happened, are you okay?"
Luther was as surprised as them, but by Allison's expression, he knew it would be better to let her talk and ask later, "Let's just let Allison tell us what happened," he offered exchanging worried glances with his brothers and guiding her to sit with him on the couch.
"I can't explain why he did the things he did with you guys, but he saved our friends from some crooks last night, …he risked his life for me… I have no doubts, he's the same old Five we knew when we were kids."
"The same jerk that thought he was better than us even as kids?" asked Diego rolling his eyes.
"Yeah, the same jerk that used to piss dad off so he'd forget about your punishment whenever you messed up in a mission," Allison retorted.
"Oh, I had completely forgotten he used to do that! He'd always deny it whenever we thanked him saying he hadn't done it for us," reminisced Luther with a silly smile.
"Okay fine, that was unfair, but lots of things have happened since then, Allison, you sure he hasn't changed? Maybe the Commission wanted them dead and he was simply doing his job," muttered Diego.
"Maybe it has something to do with the Commission, but I'm sure Five is not to blame here," she shook her head, "he…," she suddenly chocked unable to go on and raised her head pressing her lips together trying to hold back a new wave of tears.
Ray put a hand in Allison's shoulder giving her a reassuring squeeze and finished her sentence, "He… took a bullet in Allison's place, I saw it too."
"Wait, he's not…?" Asked Luther with wide eyes looking at his sister.
Klaus looked around with some apprehension, "No, he's not dead… I think."
"You think?" asked Ben at his side.
Klaus shrugged at him covertly, their father had eluded him for the longest of time, who knew if Five would do the same for some reason.
"Still, he was seriously wounded and… there's something seriously wrong with Five, guys, I'm sure of it," Allison said sniffing and drying her eyes, "his eyes looked… lost, and even in the dark his clothes looked very saggy."
"Now that you mention it…" recollected Luther, "after letting go of him, I noticed he was shaky and seemed a bit wobbly."
"And now you think about that!?" Reproached Allison.
"…Did he say something weird to you guys?" asked Diego suddenly.
Luther frowned trying to remember, "Reconsidering things…I think… I think back then he might have tried to tell me to take care of everyone."
"Aww, really? …Are you sure that was Five and not an impostor?" Asked Klaus earning an glare from Ben.
"I know, right, so weird," Luther shrugged.
"Are you people that blind?" Asked Ben a little offended in Five's name. Sure, Five was hardly the kindest when it came to words, but his actions always spoke volumes.
"How about you, Allison?" inquired Diego ignoring Klaus' and Luther's interchange.
Allison knitted her brows thinking, "He mouthed something to me but… I don't think it was in English."
"Can you remember what it was?" Asked Luther curious.
"I had completely forgotten about it until now, I was too upset to think of anything else," her eyes traveled back and forth trying to remember, "I think it was something like 'coh leesa, geh tela'…" she muttered.
"Okay… that doesn't sound even close to any of the languages I know," frowned Diego exchanging glances with Luther. Each one of them had learned 5 main languages and two extras, so it was probably one of Allison's extras.
"How did you pronounce that first letter again?" asked Klaus thoughtful, "that didn't sound like a normal C."
"No, I think it was more of a click sound…"
"Well, that's a good cue, there are few languages with clicking sounds," pointed out Klaus.
Then it came to her, "wait, did Five know Zulu too?"
"I don't think so, that's one of your unique languages, right?" said Diego.
"Well, it's not that farfetched that he might have learned it during the apocalypse, I mean, he had a lot of time; I learned how to assemble and disassemble a whole spaceship and… might have memorized all the episodes of Friends," admitted Luther.
"And he was SUCH a nerd when we were kids," added Klaus.
"Says the guy that helped Allison figure the right language," quipped Ben rolling his eyes. To be fair Klaus wasn't the nerd type, he just knew the basics of a few other languages thanks to all the ghosts he saw whenever he wasn't high.
"Wait? Did you just say you memorized all the Friends episodes?" Asked Klaus suddenly.
"What, it's not like I had an infinite source of information in the moon, you know? Do you think I had a bookstore right at the corner of my spaceship or any other thing for that matter?"
And suddenly Luther thought about Five, of the talk they had had waiting for Cha Cha and Hazel, if their siblings had a hard time grasping his time alone in the academy and then in the moon, they'd never understand Five's loneliness. Maybe he had been too hard on him, would it have killed him to hear what he had to say?
Allison put a hand in Luther's arm so he and Klaus would focus back on the issue at hand.
"So?" Diego urged frowning at his brothers.
"Okay… let me see… he must have been saying 'Xolisa…, ngicela uzina…kekele?' …I'm sorry, please take care of yourself?" Allison looked at her brothers with a bad feeling, "What is that supposed to mean?"
"It almost sounds like he was saying good bye," murmured Ben to no one but Klaus.
"What did he say to you?" was Allison's turn to ask.
Diego avoided her eyes, the more he heard, the more a restless feeling set over him, he had been too angry at Five to pay attention, but thinking back, he kinda looked like crap when they had fought, "he said he wouldn't always be here to fix my mess…" he considered for a moment, "it's almost like he was trying to prepare us before he—," his eyes suddenly opened wide and alarmed like a puppy dog's, "do you t-t-think his life's in danger!?"
"Well duh," blurted Allison exasperated, "this is what I've been trying to tell you, something's seriously wrong with him, and now… thanks to me, he could be bleeding out somewhere alone and scared right now, if not already dead in a back alley," she covered her mouth with the back of her hand as her face distorted. She knew her brother's consciousness was almost 30 years older than them, but seeing him that night, she couldn't help her maternal side from surfacing, aching at the mere thought of 13-year-old Five hurt and alone somewhere. Or perhaps even in a worse situation.
"Come on Allison, he survived for years in the post-apocalyptic world, I'm sure a bullet won't kill him that easily," tried to calm her down Luther as he prayed his words were right.
"And walked for a whole day with a shrapnel wound on his side," added Diego.
"Somehow that's not as reassuring as you both think," said Allison wryly.
"Do you have any clue or idea of what's going on with him, Allison?" asked Diego.
"Well, he looked worn out to begin with but… there was something else in his expression… and then there's the laughter Luther mentioned."
"Laughter?" frowned Diego.
"Yeah, he laughed when I pinned him to the wall, he had just killed my friend and he just laughed," explained Luther still perplexed.
"Well of course he did, he was high," said Klaus matter-of-factly.
"What?" asked the other three in unison gaping at him.
"Was he all twitchy?" inquired Klaus.
"Well kinda, he seemed a bit jittery, yes," considered Luther.
"Were his pupils dilated and his eyes red?" queried Klaus again.
"Well, maybe but… you know his pupils are often dilated because of his powers…," argued Luther.
"Twitchiness, red eyes, dilated pupils and irrational behaviors like a maniac laughter after killing a guy and being pinned to a wall by your goliath brother? …He must have been drugged to the gills and with something strong," assured Klaus.
"Since when are you an exp—," Luther heard himself and looked at everyone's incredulous expressions, "forget I ever asked, how can you be so sure?"
"Well… I might have seen him a couple of days ago," brought up Klaus with a slightly guilty smile.
"What!? Why didn't you say anything until now?" asked Allison.
"Finally! I told you it was important, you moron!" exclaimed Ben earning a quick glower from Klaus.
"Well… I might have gotten a little too drunk later that day, I just forgot," he simply shrugged to his siblings' frustration.
"Didn't you tell me you had been sober for like three years when I found you?" Asked Allison frowning at that.
Klaus just shrugged, "Long sad story."
"When exactly was that?" intervened Diego before considering Klaus' words, "We'll go back to that sad part later," he pointed at his brother. Maybe he should start paying more attention to what his siblings had to say.
"Hmm… three days ago I think?" said Klaus after nodding appreciatively.
"It was definitely three days ago," nodded Ben.
"What? That's the same day he stopped me from capturing Oswald, whatever is going on, it seems like our brother has kept pretty busy."
"So, what happened when you saw him, did he tell you something too?" asked Allison.
"Well…"
Notes: Okay so, what was that about dilated pupils and Five's powers?
Well, you see, when I was scrolling through some comments on reddit, I saw somebody mentioning Five's pupils always seemed dilated and he wondered if it had something to do with his powers or something, maybe a side affect of time-space traveling, so naturally, as I was re-watching the show, I obsessively looked for Aidan's pupils and they were in fact dilated most of the time, of course, everyone else's were too (it was just easier to see in his eyes), it was probably due to the filming lighting lol, anyways, I still thought that was an interesting little concept, and since my idea of his blinking involves actually being able to see the tendrils of space and time, I thought dilated pupils could help with that? - in short, dilated pupils are helpful for his powers or what if Five has insane vision as a necessary side effect of his powers? - OH, maybe that's why his eyes looked like an animal's when Allison saw him too!? - No, glowing eyes in some animals is due to a special reflective surface called tapetum lucidum behind their retinas, probably irrelevant for Five's power... but he would look quite cool if he had it right? XD what do you think?
Okay, maybe I should stop rambling so much in the end notes, but I can't help obsessing about things like that, Five's too interesting!
Thank you again for the lovely comments you have left me and for following this story, you really help me out when I get stuck in the same chapter for days! :'D
