Rookies (DCAU)
"Hi, Booster Gold…here's my card," he said, handing one to Vixen before moving on to the next new female League member.
"Hi, Booster Gold…here's my card," he introduced himself to Ice. "Call me and I'll show you a great time."
"Hi, Booster Gold…uh…" he stuttered as he looked into the hardened gaze of Huntress. "You look like you could seriously hurt me, so you don't get a card."
"I'm crushed," Huntress sarcastically bit out with a sneer.
Booster turned to B'Wanna Beast, taking a step back. "Uh, hi," he said. "You don't get a card either."
"I'm relieved," B'Wanna Beast muttered as Booster nearly bumped into Flash before sidestepping him and moving on to the next female superhero.
Casting a faint glare at Booster Gold, Flash stood casually with his back leaning against the wall with his arms crossed and a cocky grin plastered on his face. "Yah, I've been here since the very beginning," he flirted with the new girl with the beautiful green hair. "The League would've been lost without me the last two years. I hate to say it, but I'm the heart of the team.
"In fact, Superman and Batman have consulted me many times on various missions. It gets to be a little tedious having everyone depending so heavily on me, but it's a sacrifice I'm more than happy to make for the good of the world."
"Flash!"
The scarlet speedster nearly leapt ten feet into the air as Batman's biting bark filled his ear. Calming himself, he tapped his commlink. "Hiya, Bats! What's up?"
"You were supposed to start the tour ten minutes ago," he growled in annoyance. "Get moving! We have a timetable to stick to."
"How did you…never mind," he replied with a frown. "I'm on it. Flash out."
"All right, people!" Flash yelled in an attempt to capture the attention of the fifteen rookies assembled in the transporter room. "We're going to start the tour of the Watchtower now. I need everyone to stay together. No wondering off. Feel free to ask questions and for all the ladies in the group, I'm single and very available."
Diana giggled as Batman shut off the sound on the security feed to the transporter room. "It's not funny, princess," Batman grumbled as he switched the camera feed to the hallway outside of the transporters. "We never should have let Flash lead the rookies on a tour of the Watchtower. I can't believe I let you talk me into it."
Diana placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder, squeezing it gently. "He'll be just fine," she assured him. "Besides, would you have rather been the one to do it?"
The growl she received was all the answer she got and the only one she actually expected to get. She watched as Flash jabbered on about something or other, talking animatedly with his hands. The fifteen rookies looked like a herd of deer caught in the headlights of oncoming traffic except for the one called Booster Gold. He seemed to be preoccupied with a female rookie who went by the name Vixen, but the piercing glare she leveled him with pretty much shut down his efforts.
"…and don't worry about all your molecules being all scrambled up when you're being transported around the globe," Flash said as Batman turned on the sound in the hallway outside of the transporter room. "The tech guys are great at putting you back together again in one piece. We haven't had one accident yet…well, at least that I know of."
"Yah, so when do we get to meet Wonder Woman?" Booster Gold yelled from the back of the group. "That woman is so hot. I'm dying to give her my phone number. The Booster Gold is irresistible."
Diana bit back a snicker as Bruce's hands curled into fists on top of the desk. She cast a sidelong glance at him, noticing the way that his jaw clenched tight enough to chew through metal. It only seemed to worsen when another rookie by the name of Plastic Man seconded Booster's comment about her looks.
"I have to go," Diana told him, squeezing his shoulder. "I'll see you at lunch."
Batman didn't respond to her as he stared at the computer screen as if silently wishing he could incinerate Booster Gold with his gaze alone. One hundred and one ways of maiming Booster Gold paraded through his mind. He also made a mental note of the rookie who had agreed with Gold. He decided a private introduction in a dark corner of the Watchtower was in order with Booster Gold and Plastic Man.

"Oh, Wondy is around here somewhere," Flash nonchalantly replied, trying to appear uninterested as he quickly changed the subject. "Now, we're going to move on to the Javelin bays. You'll need to know where they are located in case you need to take a Javelin on a mission."
"Can't Wonder Woman just fly me there?" Booster called out. "I'd love for her to fly me everywhere."
Flash face-palmed himself with the comment, sweat beginning to break out beneath his uniform. "All right…moving on," he decided as he quickened his pace past the Javelin Bays. "Let's just go to the training rooms instead. We have five training rooms, each one equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and technology. We have a hologram program that allows Leaguers to practice fighting some of our most dangerous foes, keeping us at our best."
Several questions were asked about the training rooms and gym as well as the high-tech training equipment. Thankfully, none of the questions pertained to Wonder Woman much to Flash's relief. He wanted to avoid the Amazon princess, and everything related to her all cost. He valued his life too much to lose it over a stupid rookie running their mouth.
"Great! It looks like one of the training rooms is in use, so it'll give you a chance to see it being used," Flash announced, leading the group into the viewing room.
Wally swallowed hard at the sight of Wonder Woman fighting against a holographic Cheetah. "Okay, I think we've seen enough here," he suddenly said, swiftly turning his back to the fight happening behind him. "Let's move on to—"
"No way am I leaving!" Booster exclaimed with a grin. "It's a girl fight and it's Wonder Woman. No one wants to miss that."
"I bet fifty bucks on Wonder Babe!" Plastic Man yelled.
"Look at those moves," Gold raved. "I'd love for her to teach me a few moves…not that I need them of course."
"I'm too busy looking at those curves," Vibe commented with a grin.
"She's kicking tail and not even breaking a sweat!" Booster declared in awe. "How does she do that?"
"Okay, I think I need to warn you all that Wonder Woman is off limits," Flash proclaimed to the group, holding his hands up in front of him. "I don't want anyone getting hurt because they thought they had a chance with Diana."
"Why?" Ice asked. "Is she really dating Superman?"
"Yah, I saw in one of the tabloids yesterday that Wonder Woman and Superman are secretly planning a spring wedding," Fire revealed. "Her wedding colors are going to be mauve and sage."
"Really?" Huntress spoke up. "Wasn't Wonder Woman seen dancing with Bruce Wayne in Paris not that long ago?"
"That's old news," Ice told her with a dismissive wave of her hand. "I heard she was seen with a hunky Secret Agent with white hair who has been secretly assigned to watch the League."
"I thought she was dating—" Vixen began.
Flash heard a threatening growl in his ear, one that caused a shiver of dread to race up his spine. "Okay, people!" Flash yelled, interrupting them with a loud clap of his hands. "We're moving on to the
infirmary. You're definitely going to need to know where that is because I assure you, you're going to end up there sooner or later…especially if you try to get a date with Wonder Woman."
"That's doesn't sound very promising," B'Wanna Beast said with a frown.
"I won't be needing it," Booster Gold boasted. "I never get hurt. Besides, women never say no to a date with Booster Gold."
"Do you always refer to yourself in the third person?" B'Wanna Beast asked him.
"What?" Booster asked.
"Never mind," B'Wanna Beast replied with a shake of his head. "Just don't hold your breath about getting a date with Wonder Woman or you really will end up in the infirmary."
"Hey, once she meets me, she isn't going to be able to keep her hands off me," he claimed. "We're going to be inseparable."
"Who exactly voted you into the League?" Vixen asked with a sarcastic sneer, her hands on her hips as she looked him up and down.
Booster puffed out his chest with pride. "I don't know, but I have a feeling I was the leading vote-getter."
Vixen huffed in annoyance as they continued their tour, already making it a point to avoid any and all interaction with Booster Gold. Several of the female leaguers were making that very same decision as well as they entered the infirmary to find J'onn speaking with a doctor, a partially undressed Green Lantern sitting on the edge of one of the medical beds.
"Hey, GL," Flash greeted him with a frown of worry. "What happened to you, buddy?"
"Sinestro," he grumbled, glancing down at the deep gash in his chest.
Vixen's eyes darkened at the sight of the handsome Lantern sitting on the bed with his uniform top off. She stepped slightly to the side of the group, hoping to be noticed. It didn't take long for the former Marine to spot the gorgeous super model, finding it difficult to take his eyes off her.
"I see you're doing the rookie tour," Lantern noted, his gaze never leaving Vixen's as he smiled at her. "Welcome to the League."
"Yah, Supes and Bats needed someone charming and popular to handle the tour," Flash informed him.
"So, they chose you?" Lantern quipped.
"Funny," Flash drawled.
"Hey, this is boring," Booster yelled from the back of the group. "We want to go back to the training rooms to watch Wonder Babe fight Cheetah."
The female Leaguers rolled their eyes and crossed their arms in obvious disdain for poor Booster who wasn't doing a particularly good job of making a first impression for himself. It was becoming apparent that they were on the verge of pummeling him and leaving his broken body in a dark corner of the Watchtower.
"All right, we better be moving on then," Flash readily decided, knowing the less talk about Wonder Woman the better for his health. "I think a tour of the Monitor Womb would be good. You'll each be assigned to take a shift in the Monitor Womb to monitor for trouble and organize missions."
"Can I be paired with Wonder Woman on my first mission?" Plastic Man asked.
"Okay, listen up!" Flash yelled. "No more references to Wonder Woman! Got it?"
"It was a legitimate question," Plastic Man grumbled under his breath as they exited the infirmary.
Flash ground his teeth as he led the group to the Monitor Womb, knowing his life was hanging in the balance right now. Flash passed through the sliding doors, nearly running straight into Batman who was standing right there just past the doors. His arms were folded against his chest, his black cape draped around him. He cut a very impressive, very terrifying image…especially with the Batglare turned clear up to "incinerate".
Flash swallowed hard, trying to keep the tremble he felt inside from finding its way outside. "Uh, hiya, Bats," he nervously said. "We were just going to…I think we'll go…yah, it would probably be for the best if we go check out the living quarters instead."
"Good idea," Batman ground out, lifting his narrowed gaze to glare at the group behind him.
Everyone took a life-saving step backwards, Flash zipping out of the Monitor Womb, the doors sliding closed behind him and saving them from the Dark Knight's fearsome glower. "Whew," Flash muttered under his breath. "Okay, we're going to check out the living quarters."
"Is that where Wonder Woman stays?" Plastic Man asked.
"Ugh!" Flash groaned, stalking past the group to lead them in the other direction. "Just follow me."
"If we get to choose roommates, I call dibs on Wonder Woman," Booster declared.
Booster came to an abrupt stop when he found Flash suddenly standing directly in his path, the scarlet speedster's face in his face. "Would you just stop already?!" Flash hissed at him, his nose nearly touching Booster's. "Are you trying to get me killed, man?"
"What? No," he swore, jerking his head back.
"Then. Shut. Up."
"Okay…okay," he told him, holding up his hands before him. "Don't get your undies in a bundle."
"You don't understand the ramifications," Flash said, glancing to his left and then to his right. "It's dangerous."
"Dude, I got it."
"No…no, you don't," Flash uttered with a haunting tone, glaring at him a moment longer before finally racing back to the front of the group. He cleared his throat, straightening his shoulders and lifting his chin. "All right, we're going to swing by the living quarters and then we'll—"
"Hey, I'm starving," B'Wanna Beast yelled. "When do we get to eat lunch?"
"Well, that's actually not a bad idea," Flash readily decided. "We could head to the commissary first and have some lunch. Then, we can finish the tour."
"Good idea!" Vibe agreed.
"You guys are going to love the comm," Flash gushed as he led the group down the corridor. "They have the best food and you get plenty of choices. Batman hired the best chef to head up the meals."
"I'm a vegetarian," one of the female Leaguers announced.
"Not a problem," Flash reassured her. "They have a salad buffet that's available twenty-four seven. If any of you have a sweet tooth, you're in for a real treat. The chef makes the best desserts. My personal favorite is the apple pie…no, make that the red velvet cupcakes…no, it's gotta be the lemon bars. Okay, actually I love all of them."
Entering the commissary, Flash stopped short when he spotted the very people he had hoped to avoid. Batman and Wonder Woman were carrying their lunch trays to a table off to the side, alone and out of the way. Batman sneered at Flash, a silent warning that was registered as received.
"Whoa!" B'Wanna Beast said. "Batman and Wonder Woman are having lunch together!"
"Can I get a pic with them?" Vibe asked as he reached for his cell phone.
"Are they a couple?" Ice asked.
"They are so adorable together," Fire gushed with her thick accent.
"What does she see in him?" Plastic Man demanded to know with a look of pure disgust.
"What? That spooky freak is dating Wonder Woman?" Booster Gold yelled, everyone turning to look at him. "It's so not fair!"
Flash's shoulders sank as his eyes momentarily fell closed. "I'm so dead," he murmured to himself as he watched Batman stand to his feet and turn towards him. "Okay, gang! We're going to transport down to Central City for lunch."
"What about the tour?" Vixen asked.
"Later…we'll finish it later…much, much later," Flash told her as he swiftly shooed the group out of the commissary.
Diana looked directly at Batman who had retaken his seat across from her, her head tilting slightly as she stared him down. "Bruce, what did you do?"
"What?" he innocently asked as he stuck a French fry in his mouth.
"Wally looked terrified," she pointed out. "What did you do to make him so afraid of us?"
Batman shrugged a shoulder as he reached for his drink. "Nothing," he insisted.
"Then, why did he just usher the rookies right out of the commissary when they spotted us?"
"I may have had a little talk with him before he started the tour to make sure the rookies stayed away from you."
"Bruce!" she exclaimed. "Why would you do that? I don't want them to be frightened of us just because we're Founders."
"That's not what concerns me," he evenly stated. "I don't want those male rookies gawking at you like you're some prize to be won."
Diana's lips curled into a grin as she leaned towards him. "Why, Bruce, are you jealous?"
Bruce averted his eyes, not wanting to meet her knowing gaze. She could read him like a book, and he didn't like it one bit. "No, not at all," he maintained as he focused on his lunch tray. "I just don't want you to be constantly harassed by those morons who only want to get some tail."
Diana wrinkled her nose as she looked behind her. "I don't have a tail," she told him.
He couldn't suppress the smirk that formed on his face, her naivete charming and enduring herself to him even more than she already had. "That's not what I'm referring to," he revealed. "It means sex, princess. They're only after one thing—sex."
Her eyes narrowed, anger permeating the blue orbs. "I am not some piece of meat," she indignantly stated. "And I do not give myself to just anyone for meaningless sex or one-night stands."
"I know you don't," he assured her. "That's why I told Flash to keep a tight leash on the fools that were more than eager to meet you."
"That's very sweet of you, Bruce," she said with a little quirk of a smile. "You do know I can handle myself when it comes down to it, right?"
"Of course, I do," he insisted. "I just didn't want you to be subjected to that vulgarity. You're so far above that."
"You were jealous, though."
"I don't get jealous," he replied. "I just don't like the idea of them looking at you as nothing more than some sex symbol to be ogled and bragged about. There's so much more to you…far more than people give you credit."
"Like what?" she asked, cupping her chin as her elbow came to rest on top of the table.
"You have a pure and compassionate heart," he began. "You have a fierce warrior's spirit and you're the most intelligent woman I've ever known. Not to mention, you can take on anyone in the world and hold your own."
"That's sweet of you," she replied with a grin. "You know I'd kiss you right here if we weren't in the commissary."
"Save it for tonight, princess…save it for tonight," he softly murmured with the minutest twitch of a smile at the corner of his lips, finding himself suddenly anxious for tonight.
A/N: Poor Wally and Booster Gold. LOL! Hope you enjoyed a fun little take on the Rookies' initiation into the JL. :)
