Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 21 of The Winter Soldier and the Luna Wolf. I want to thank those who have left reviews. It truly does mean a lot to me that you guys are enjoying this story; This next chapter is going to be a bit difficult to write since this is the last time we see Bucky for a little bit. I know you're probably wondering why I'm making him become the Winter Soldier, but there is a good reason for that. I hope that you guys enjoy this next chapter. Without further ado Chapter 21. ENJOY!

Chapter 21

Violet let out a tired breath as she lay on her bed. There was a knock on the door to her room. She shifted sleepily into an upright position. "Who is it?" She asked softly.

Bucky poked his head inside the room. "Hey. Heard you weren't coming with us this time." Buckey said as he came into the room with a worried look on his face.

"Yes, sorry about that. Have to plan on what to do with Zola once we have him." Violet said as she tiredly got up to her feet.

Bucky came over to her and wrapped his arms around her. "I don't know what I'm going to do not have you there."

Violet let out a soft chuckle shaking her head lightly. "I'm sure that you and the fellas will be alright." She said looking up into his eyes. "I know it'll be strange without my womanly charm, but you gentlemen will have a good time without me and a safe mission at that."

Bucky brushed his lips softly against hers.

She returned the kiss softly only to pull away for just a moment. She looked up at him. "Promise me something, James." She said softly, her voice coming out very softly.

Bucky blinked a few times hearing the soft voice of Violet. He never heard her voice in this way before. "Letty, what is it?"

Violet let out a shaky breath. "I want you to promise me something."

Bucky touched her cheek softly. "Of course, anything for your doll."

Violet touched his cheek softly with her hand being very careful to not claw him with her nails. "I want you to be safe out there and come back to me." She said softly looking into his blue eyes.

"I promise you, doll. I will come back to you safe and sound."

Violet took a breath leaning more into the touch of his hand. "I will hold you to that Sargent." She said softly.

Bucky kissed the top of her head knowing that she was worried about him going out on a mission without her and he knew that she feared losing someone. He wasn't going to let her go through the pain of losing him. He would vow to himself that he wouldn't do anything stupid to make sure that he came home to her safely. "I promise." He said softly against her forehead.

Violet hummed softly knowing that he was going to try his best to make sure that he got home to her. "I should let you rest… you have a long day ahead of you." She said softly.

"I'll be back before you know it." He told her softly, pressing another soft kiss to her forehead. "I have one thing to ask you, doll."

"And what's that James?" She asked softly looking up into his eyes.

"One more dance for luck?"

Violet's cheeks flushed and nodded her head. "For luck."

Bucky nodded his head. "Yes."

"Alright." She said softly knowing that it would calm Bucky down some if they danced.

Days had passed since Bucky and Violet's last talk and they were due to be back anytime soon. But Violet couldn't help but feel that there was something wrong. She could only hope that her feeling that she felt was very wrong and was just a worry.

Violet put the file down on her table letting out a soft breath and tangling her hair into her loosely curled hair. It was the file on Zola that they had and it was rather concerning how far the SSR was going to go to just get this man to get under Schmidt's skin.

There was a knock on the door which shook her to the core.

Violet got up to her feet hoping that it was Bucky that had finally returned to her. She moved quickly across the floor as quickly as her heels would allow her to move. She reached for the door and opened it. She knew that Bucky wouldn't care if she looked worse for wear. She froze in her tracks when she saw that it was Steve. "Steve…" She said softly her breath hitching in her throat the feeling of dread coming back. "Where…" She saw the look on Steve's face and knew that it wasn't a good sign. Someone had gotten hurt or worse killed. "Where's James?" She asked, her voice coming out very softly. She wanted to know where he was.

Steve looked up at her with tear-filled eyes which made her heart sink in her chest.

Tears began to form in her eyes. "Steve…" Her hands went to his uniform top gripping it tightly. "Please tell me you're not here to…" Her breath hitched in her throat scared that he was there to bring bad news about her Bucky, her handsome James who had promised her that he would be back and it would be in no time.

Steve wrapped his arms around her as tears slid down his cheeks. He knew that this news would crush her into a thousand pieces if not more. "I'm sorry." He said softly sniffling. He felt her legs going weak and felt her losing her footing and she was collapsing against him. "I tried to save him… I just…"

"Steve, he can't be gone." She said as tears began to slide down her cheeks. She was scared that this would happen. She never wanted to hear such a thing that James wouldn't be coming to her and doing corny jokes with her to make her smile.

"I tried to save him…" He said softly sniffling again. He knew that this wasn't what she wanted to hear, but he had told himself that he needed to tell her what had happened. But he didn't expect this strong stoic woman to break down into a crippling mess onto the floor sobbing. He tried his best to rub her back softly to calm her down.

Violet let out a choked broken sob gripping onto Steve like he was a lifeline to Bucky and the path that she didn't want to take and she took hoping that it would be different. She realized right then and there it would never be different. It would always be the same. "I need a drink." She whispered against the fabric of his uniform.
