Chitchat (Any)

Catwoman grunted as the end of a club slammed into her midsection, causing her to grit her teeth against the pain that shot through her. It only served to further infuriate her and steel her resolve to end this melee that she'd found herself in.

Trying to stop a mugging in the East End had brought in the entire gang, making it one Catwoman against twelve thugs. It didn't deter her in the least, though. She could handle it on her own. Reaching for her whip, she quickly went to work, using her favorite weapon to gain control over the situation.

She spun on her heel, lifting her leg to drive the heel of her boot into the gut of a gang member and driving him backward into a second one. The sharp crack of her whip caused another thug to drop his crowbar to grab his bleeding hand instead.

She hissed as a knife cut across her upper arm, blood oozing through her suit. She didn't let it slow her down as she delivered a right hook followed up by a spinning kick to the jaw. She continued to channel her anger as she moved on to the next one, her breathing growing erratic.

Something suddenly caught her attention out of the corner of her eye, giving her pause. It was another gang member…no, it was a tall woman dressed in black from head to toe. She immediately knew the identity of the unexpected participant in the fight by her statuesque form and her long raven locks pulled up into a high ponytail.

What was she doing here? She didn't belong here.

Catwoman didn't have time to ask questions as another hoodlum tried to remove her head from her shoulders with his machete. She ducked out of the way, coming up and grabbing his arm. She wrenched it behind his back, not stopping with the scream that tore from his mouth as he dropped his weapon.

If he wanted to fight, then she would fight.

She heard the familiar pop of a dislocated joint, a smile curling her lips as she finally released him by shoving him away from her. She threw an elbow behind her and directly into the nose of the next creep who thought he could take her down, causing him to stumble backward as he grabbed his face.

Using her whip, Catwoman allowed it to wrap around another gang member, pulling him directly into her waiting fist. She tossed him aside as she unwound him from her whip. Glancing at her new partner in this fight, she found that there were no more left.

Winding up her whip, Catwoman sauntered towards the stranger in black who was actually known to her. "What are you doing here, and does he know?"

Without another word, the woman in black grabbed hold of Catwoman's arms before flying up to a nearby rooftop. "No, and I'm hoping you'll keep it our little secret."

Catwoman watched as the woman in black removed the eye mask from her face to reveal the Amazon princess standing before her. "You know that costume doesn't really hide your identity very well," she told her. "When you're built like…well…you, you're never going to be able to disguise it. Not even a burlap sack could hide it."

"That noticeable, huh?" Diana asked, pulling her hair out of the ponytail, and running her fingers through it.

"Sorry, but I'm afraid so," Selina told her.

"How's your arm?" Diana asked, nodding at the wound.

"I've had worse," Selina said. "Now, what are you doing here?"

"Batman is out of town on a business trip for a couple of days, so I thought I'd help out while he's gone," Diana told her, eye mask and hairband in hand.

"You know he'll be furious if he finds out about it," Selina reminded her again.

The corner of Diana's lips quirked as she gave her a pleading look. "That's why I'm hoping you won't tell him about it."

"Why should I keep your secret?" Selina asked, crossing her arms against her chest. "Just because we've both slept with Bruce doesn't make us best friends."

"Because we both love him," Diana tried to tell her.

Selina averted her eyes, a sigh escaping her lips as she moved to stand on the edge of the rooftop. "What makes you think I still love him? That's been a long time ago."

Diana closed the distance between them, coming to stand beside her to look out over the city. "Because once you fall in love with Bruce, there's no going back."

Selina snorted in amusement. "Isn't that the truth?"

"He's hard to love and hard to live with, but there's no getting away from it," Diana replied. "There's no one else in the world I'd rather be in love with but him."

Selina couldn't help but smile with the memories that flooded her mind with this unexpected conversation. "He is difficult to live with, isn't he?"

"Sometimes," Diana confirmed with a chuckle. "The grunts for an answer, the sudden calls that take him away at any given moment, the brooding—"

"The snoring," Selina added with a laugh.

"That too," Diana responded with a grin. "I've actually gotten used to it. I have trouble sleeping when he's not there."

"The obsessiveness."

"The paranoia."

"The night terrors," Selina hauntingly responded with a visible shudder. "Is he still having those?"

"Not as much," Diana admitted as she thought about it. "He was in the beginning, but they've diminished greatly in frequency."

"I'm glad for that," Selina said as she sat down on the edge of the roof, her legs dangling over the edge. "It must be because of your presence in his life. You make him feel safe."

"I don't know about that," she murmured with a shake of her head. She'd love to think to, but it wasn't something that she felt she could take credit for.

"Do you know what I miss the most?"

"What?" Diana asked as she sat down beside her, unsure if she actually wanted to hear this or not. It was her own fault for starting this line of conversation with his ex-girlfriend. What had she been thinking?

"I miss the makeup sex," she revealed, Diana's stomach clenching with her answer. "Sometimes, I would pick a fight with him just so we could makeup. It was the best. I think he knew it too."

Diana had to admit she was right. Makeup sex with Bruce was beyond amazing. "My favorite time is in the morning when we are both just waking up and we talk about our future and our dreams."

"Really?" Selina said, tilting her head in question as she stared at the Amazon. "We never did that."

"Hmmm…I wonder why that was."

"Probably because, deep down, Bruce didn't see a future with me," Selina admitted with a hint of sorrow in her voice. She drew a deep breath to harden her heart against the onslaught of emotions that unexpectedly assaulted her. "To be honest, I never really thought we would last either. It was more of a fling than a real relationship. It definitely wasn't healthy."

"I'm sorry, Selina," Diana replied, catching the sometime thief off guard.

Selina studied her for a long moment, appraising her unanticipated confidant. If someone had ever told her that one day, she'd be having a heartfelt conversation with the Princess of the Amazons on a rooftop in Gotham about Bruce Wayne, she would've laughed and then punched them in the face.

"You really are…aren't you?" she softly questioned her.

"I am," Diana confirmed, her eyes still fixed on the city spread out before her as Selina gazed at her. "I can't begin to imagine no longer having a life with Bruce. I know I'd find a way to go on…I'd have to. I'm an Amazon. It's what we are taught to do, but I know it would be the most challenging thing I'd ever have to do."

"You'd be fine," Selina reassured her. "I managed to do it. Of course, I was the one who ultimately walked away, but I knew it was for the best."

"How do you go on without your heart?" Diana asked.

"I don't know for sure that he ever truly had it," Selina admitted. "I mean I loved him…I'll always love him, but I don't give my heart to anyone…not even him."

"You're a strong woman, Selina," Diana complimented her. "Even though you still loved him, you knew it wasn't meant to be. It's a hard thing to walk away when there's still love there."

"You could do it too if you had to," she assured her. "You do it because you love him…you know it's what's best for him even if he doesn't see it at the time."

"I think it hurt him when you left," Diana informed her.

"I'm sure I did," she said, looking at Diana with a twitch of amusement on her lips. "It was for the best. Look at him now, though. He has the Amazon Princess in his bed. It makes sense now that it would take an Amazon warrior to tame the demons that live inside of him."

Diana attempted to stifle a smile as she looked away. "I wouldn't go that far. I think they'll always haunt him to some extent."

"I should get going," Selina suddenly decided, standing to her feet. "I'm sure there's more crime out there that needs to be stopped."

Diana stood to her feet as well, giving the infamous Catwoman a heartfelt smile. "I know we'll never be best friends or anything, but I am glad you were there for him when he needed someone."

Selina gave her a small smile in return along with a curt nod. "You too, princess," she replied. "Take good care of him."

"Always," she promised.

Selina threw her whip out to wrap around a nearby light pole. "Oh, and don't worry," she told her. "Your secret is safe with me."

"Thanks," Diana replied, watching as she disappeared into the night.

Diana stood there for several moments before looking down at the mask in her hand. "How much did you hear?"

"Most of it."

"You know it's rude to eavesdrop," she reminded him as she turned around to face him. "I'm sure I could have you arrested for some trumped-up charge."

She watched as he emerged out of the shadows like a phantom of the night, approaching her with the slightest twitch on his lips as he tried to curb his amusement. "Nice costume," he replied. "You're still not supposed to be out in Gotham you know."

"When did you get back?" she asked, changing the subject as she drew closer to him till they nearly stood toe to toe.

"A couple of hours ago," he informed her, taking the eye mask from her hand. "Didn't you wear this at last year's Halloween party?"

She shrugged a shoulder with a chuckle. "It did the trick tonight."

He smirked as he handed it back to her. "You really look sexy in that black bodysuit," he rasped darkly as he fully appraised her. "You're going to end up turning on every male in Gotham with that costume. I'm going to have a new problem on my hands."

"You're the only one who matters to me."

"I heard," he simply said.

"You heard too much," she pointed out. "It was girl talk…chitchat."

"Chitchat about me," he added. "I don't know if I like my girlfriend talking about me with my ex-girlfriend. It could prove to be detrimental to my health in the end."

Diana laughed in response as replaced her eye mask before the palms of her hands came to rest against his emblemed chest. "You know it was nothing bad. Just sharing notes."

"Obsessive, paranoid, brooding…snoring…"

"Those aren't necessarily bad things," she reminded him. "We just said you possess those qualities, and they've served you well in your line of work. Besides, I did say that I can't sleep if you're not there with me in bed snoring."

"You know you're the reason the night terrors have diminished so much," he confessed to her as his arm slipped around her waist to draw her closer to him. "You give me peace that has been missing from my life for a very long time."

She tilted her head as she smiled tenderly at him. "I'm glad I can do that for you," she replied.

"You don't have to worry about me leaving you, Diana," he softly revealed, his voice thick with emotion as his lips hovered close to hers. "I love you…and I'm not going to ever let you go."

His lips descended possessively on hers, kissing her with a reassurance that he was desperate to convey to her. His gauntleted hands splayed over her back as he held her close to him, his lips frantically moving over hers with a need that would have to wait to be sated.

"Wow," she murmured with a racing pulse and a desire for more. "I love you too."

"Want to pick a fight with me?" he asked with a playful smirk.

She couldn't help but laugh, knowing he had heard Selina talk about makeup sex. "Selina said she picked a fight with you so she could have makeup sex," she reminded him. "I wasn't the one who said that."

"Yes, but I also know how much you love makeup sex," he cockily stated with a smug look.

"How did you know that?" she questioned him, her eyes narrowing suspiciously.

"I know you, Diana," he simply answered her.

Diana pulled back, poking him forcefully in the chest. "You think you know so much, but you don't know me," she sternly told him, doing her best to sound angry. "Now, if you don't mind, I need to return to patrol."

"You are not doing patrol in my city," he stated in no uncertain terms.

"That's what you think," she shot back, turning to walk away.

Batman reached out and grabbed her arm, pulling her in for a heated kiss. "Sounds like an argument to me," he said. "Let's go home."

"Thought you'd never suggest it," she agreed, picking him up and flying towards the manor.

"Diana, this is not what I had in mind when I said let's go home," he growled as she carried him in her arms. He hated it when she did that to him and she knew it.

"I can drop you right here if you'd rather…let Selina clean up the mess and bring you home," she threatened him.

"Do not drop me and don't you dare bring Selina into this," he warned her. "I don't want you two talking anymore."

"You can't really stop me, Bruce," she told him.

"Diana, I'm warning you," he ground out. "I forbid you two talking."

"Now, this is turning into a real argument," she decided as she flew home at top speed.

"Diana!"

A/N: Just a fun little one-shot. I like writing Selina and Diana as almost friends. It's something different you don't see too often. May have to revisit it again later. Hope you enjoyed it! :)
