Together We Help (Chris/Kat)
Summary: Set in VD S5, Originals S1, and TW S1. After Kat gets the cure shoved down her throat and ends up driving into Beacon Hills, where she once lived for a short while as a vampire, a vampire enemy causes her to crash the car, and has to be saved by her favorite werewolf hunter. What will ensue? Based on me and Will's rp we've been doing for a while now.
It was a dismal night, as an injured human Kat lay not far from the upside down vehicle on her side. Her vision was blurry and she could feel blood on either side of her head. She could also feel that she was injured elsewhere, as the vampire that had caused her crash in the road approached. She knew she couldn't stay there, but her human body didn't want to move. She was sure it was probably bad. She was also sure she had a concussion, so she tried to stay awake long enough for someone to find her.
Chris Argent had been driving in his SUV as usual, when he saw the car crash. When he did, he stopped his SUV and got out, guns in hand, as he approached. That's when the vampire turned to look at him. That's also when he saw who it was that the vampire had attempted to hurt or worse. And so, he began shooting it, as he approached. Then, when it was in enough pain to be distracted, the hunter staked the vampire dead. After he'd found out that vampires existed, he'd started bringing stakes with him.
He put his weapons away and knelt at her side.
"Chris," she greeted through the pain.
"Katherine," he greeted back, before saying, "We need to get you to the hospital." He then gently picked her up, taking her to his vehicle, and got her in the passenger seat.
Normally, she hated hospitals, but this time she didn't care. She assumed probably from the blood loss and injuries. She was too much like Damon. They both hated hospitals. She didn't have much of a choice right now, though. She was quite injured with a lot of blood loss.
As she sat in the passenger seat of his vehicle and felt everything, as he headed for the hospital, she was fighting to stay awake, but starting to lose.
"Stay with me," she heard him tell her.
She couldn't tell in her state how long it took, but the next thing she knew, she felt a bed. Then, right before everything went black, she heard Melissa nearby.
Several hours later, when she woke up, she found herself in a hospital bed, the pain gone. She could tell that she'd already gone through surgery. Then, when she looked, she saw that Chris was in the room.
"You're still here," she commented.
"Of course, I am. I can leave if you want me to, though," he replied.
"No. Stay. I know vampire me normally didn't say this, but thanks. You saved me. After living so long as a vampire, I don't really know how to be human without ending up almost dying. The cure for vampirism got shoved down my throat a while back, because I was angry that my doppelganger might have been partly responsible for Elijah completely abandoning me."
"You're welcome. Now we're even."
"You were never in my debt. There's no being even. However, there is the fact that I'm gonna need a place to stay when I'm out of here," she replied. When she'd last been in town, she and Chris had become friends. Then they'd become more than just friends. And she was sure it had been mutual.
"You can stay at my place," he invited, still feeling what he'd felt for her vampire version.
"Sounds like a plan then," she replied.
When she was able to get out of the hospital, she let him take her to his place to stay for a while. Then he helped her inside his house.
She let him help her, as she sat on his couch. Considering this wasn't her first time of winding up in the hospital as a human, she had a habit of not wanting to go to bed for a while. She just wanted to stay in the living room and drink a little. With that aspect, she knew that she and Damon were alike.
"Thanks for the save. I think it might take a while for me to learn what being human is like all over again. I was a vampire so long, as a vampire, I barely remembered when I was once human. The last time I was human, I was banished from my home, pretty much got my child torn from my arms, and my parents were slaughtered. For someone like me, I'm pretty sure I probably should've been born in a different century. Rules were never something I liked. In the 1400's, you didn't get the chance to follow your heart, but I did. I always hated my father for everything. If you ask me, Klaus did me a favor with my father. The only moments of happiness I got with someone was the person I got pregnant from and then Elijah. Then I found out from Elijah what existed, what they were, and I found out myself what Klaus needed me for. And in my escape, I turned myself to not be killed. I just didn't realize at the time how much hatred a person could have. And after so long as a vampire, I forgot who I once was and when I first met Elijah. Now, I'm not fully certain how to be human," she shared with him.
"You can stay here as long as you want," he told her.
"And when I'm better, I can help you with any bad guys that role into town," she replied, remembering how often they seemed to always get bad guys in town. "Or daughter problems. How about a drink?"
He grabbed a couple shot glasses, pouring some Bourbon into both, and handed one to her, in which she took.
"How about we drink to surviving," she suggested.
"Sounds good to me," he agreed.
They clanked their glasses together, before drinking.
After a while, they went to bed together, continuing where they'd left things last time she'd been in town.
The next day, Allison was finishing getting ready for school, when Chris knocked on her bedroom door.
"Come in," she invited.
Her dad opened the door and stood at the threshold to her room.
"Hey, honey," he greeted. "You don't have to go to school today if you don't want to. I know it's hard losing your mom."
"It's fine, really. Besides, school's important. Just like your work is. You don't stop working just because of what happened. I shouldn't stop either," she replied.
Kat overheard from by the stairs, but she didn't go up them, not wanting to invade or interrupt.
"I know I haven't been the best father for you lately, but I do worry about you," he replied to her.
"I know you do the best that you can. You don't have to worry about me. I can take care of myself," she replied. "So, how long is Katherine staying? You two aren't exactly the quietest."
"For a while," he answered. "I'm sorry, but she was almost attacked last night."
"I'm not exactly a child. You don't need to apologize. I hope it wasn't a werewolf," she replied. When there was an attack, or in this case almost an attack, the first two things that came to her head were kanima or werewolf.
"It wasn't a werewolf. It was a vampire," he informed her.
"Vampires are back in town?" she had to question him when he said that it had been a vampire. "Last time, Katherine was the only vampire. Now, one comes to town when she's human? That doesn't seem like a coincidence."
Although he hadn't told her anything until today, she'd known about her being human, since her current boyfriend had a doctor for a mother. And they'd all had their own experiences with Katherine when she'd been a vampire.
"Yeah. Be safe, Allison. Please, you and your friends," he asked of her.
"I thought vampires normally stay away from werewolves," Allison said, remembering conversations from when Katherine had been a vampire. "Don't worry. I'll be careful."
"They normally do," he informed her.
"Then why do the wolves have to be cautious if vampires stay away from them?" she inquired. She knew of the folklore, but she didn't understand why vampires would be in a town with werewolves when one bite could kill them.
"Something changed, but we'll figure it out," he assured her.
Kat had overheard and approached now.
"The vampire wasn't just any vampire. It was an enemy. Considering it's been killed thanks to you, I don't see any other vampires showing up. If they do, shoot or stake first. Ask questions later. I have a few that require some extra killing. I wasn't a very good person as a vampire. I lied, deceived, and manipulated a lot of people. Some of my allies won't be allies anymore once they know I'm human. You think the story I've told of Klaus is a nightmare? You haven't met the people I personally toyed with or those that I killed someone they cared about. A lot of them are vampires, but one is a werewolf. If you see anyone with two different eye colors, he's an ancient werewolf. But if you break his amulet necklace, he'll be easier to kill. I was a young and foolish vampire before I learned how to control my urges. Axel was a kid back then. I left him alive because of that, but he grew up and his vengeance grew, too. I was all alone, so I didn't know how to control my urges, so when the pack stumbled across me, I ended up killing most of them, before I ran. When you don't have anyone to teach you as a vampire, you tend to be worst than a lone wolf. And then there's a hybrid named Ansel. And a vampire named Ambrose. Torture is their middle name. Ambrose I turned after killing someone he cared about. I didn't have any care in the world yet. After my mother was killed, I turned my emotions completely off and never wanted to feel anything again. Shortly after I left Ambrose, I met Pearl and Anna and they helped me turn it back on. And then I met Damon. But Damon's never been an enemy. Just a little nuisance once in a while. He talks like he wants to kill me, but he can't actually do it. He still cares. Ansel and Ambrose are the worst that you have to look out for. Ansel and Ambrose will both torture me if they find me and then kill me after they've killed everyone I care about," she informed them. "But if you see Klaus or you have no choice but to bring him here, be my guest and have him on our side. Klaus has changed, now that he'd expecting a daughter. So, if any of us need the help, Klaus would be a great ally and friend to have. Especially, if Ansel comes to town. I'm pretty sure only Klaus will be able to kill Ansel, being a hybrid and all himself."
"Do you expect him to come?" he wanted to know.
"I'm not expecting Klaus, but if any of us need the assistance, he'd be a great team player," she replied. "If any of my enemies find out that I'm human now though, they will be coming."
"Then we need to be ready," he replied.
"We do. Most of them are smart though, so they wouldn't be showing up at a hunter's home," she replied.
"If they are, they wouldn't," he agreed.
"I'd still be careful, though," Kat replied.
"Always am," he reminded her.
"I know you are, but you'll be extra careful this time," Kat said. "Some of you are more capable, but I'd suggest to never be alone so long as there's a chance of my enemies showing up."
"Well, I'm not going anywhere, and Allison has her friends," he informed and reminded the ex-vampiress.
"Well, I also know you two may not like Peter much, but he might be the best protection if anyone's in trouble," Kat said. "If you're still together with Scott, I'd stick closer to him just in case," she added to Allison. Then she added, "There's not much in this town, but I need to blend in just in case. The easier option might be the school if there's an opening."
"I will," the hunteress assured her.
"Allison can take you and help you if you'd like," Chris told the former vampire.
She'd been hoping that he'd help her get established, but it seemed that he must have other things on his mind to deal with, so she let it go. She knew Chris always had better things to do.
"I guess that'll do, since it seems you must have something else to do," Kat replied.
Allison agreed to help, since it seemed her dad didn't want to be the one to help.
"Sorry, but yes. I do," he informed Katherine, before heading for his office.
Since Kat had never been much of a school girl, but had a lot of knowledge in the past, she got set up with being the new History teacher, since they were low on History teachers. With Allison's help with her knowledge of how the school worked, of course. She'd been here before as a vampire, but she'd never been interested in the school. And so, her first day of being the teacher began. Although she'd never been interested in schools, she'd been close enough to Alaric back in Mystic Falls to know a thing or two about being a teacher. She knew it would probably happen, but she knew at least a couple of the students from when she'd been a vampire, that happened to be in the class.
"I'm new at this whole teaching thing, so maybe you can all be more kind than you'd be to the rest of your teachers here. Although, fair warning. You don't want to misbehave in my class. I'm pretty good at punishments. Now, let's start with something maybe you've already learned previously. Tell me about the Revolutionary war. Anyone?"
Kat began, looking at the class, but no one in particular. She didn't want to show that she knew anyone already. She was never certain as to who or what might be close by or even in her class, and she wasn't here to be looking for trouble.
Allison was in her English class. She wasn't going to be having the same class with Scott until next period, which was math class.
Kat was pretty good with names and faces usually, so she already knew pretty much every name in her class, including those she knew from when she'd been here as a vampire before.
"Well, if no one's going to answer me, I guess I'll just have to pick on one of you," Kat commented. Then, not knowing who Malia was since the last name on the chart was Tate, she picked on her. "How about you, Malia? What do you know about the Revolutionary war?"
Malia looked up, confused.
"I don't know," she admitted.
She sighed.
"Well, since none of you have paid attention for the first part of the semester, the Revolutionary war if you read your textbooks began April 19, 1775 and ended September 3, 1783. I have a project for all of you. You're going to research all about the Revolutionary war and write me at least a three page essay. Any questions?" Kat replied.
Malia was marking stuff down in her books and groaned at the assignment they'd all just been given.
When the bell rang and people began to leave, she told them, "If any of you have any questions, you know where to find me." Then, as the last of them left, since she'd seen Malia's shocked face, she asked, "Is there something you'd like to tell me? You're the only one that seemed to be shocked in this class."
"I don't know how to write an essay. I'm still new here," she admitted.
"You know Allison and Scott, right? They can teach you. Or I can make some free time and teach you. I'm new at this whole teacher thing, but I've been to this town before. An essay is a lot like just writing. But you make it interesting with facts. For example, if you were writing about vampires or werewolves. I can teach you this afternoon. I have free time. I'll be here until Chris picks me up tonight. He's kinda my ride."
Assuming she knew about werewolves existing because of her talk about the town hunter and knowing Scott and Allison, she admitted to her, "I'm a werecoyote. I've been a coyote most of my life." Then she added, "I'd like that."
"So, you're almost like a hybrid then. I've known a couple hybrids in my long life. You probably didn't know about me before, but I was a vampire the last time I was here. Now, I've been turned into nothing more than a human. If you're half werewolf, you must be related to Peter or Derek then. There aren't many wolves here, unlike Mystic Falls or New Orleans. What's left of the Argents are helping me, since I don't exactly have anything as a human. Everything I had as a vampire, I got by using my abilities. I'm also helping the Argents. I know what it's like to lose a mother you actually cared about at a young age. I just don't like to think about it. That was in a time when I was all alone. If there's anything you need help with, I can help. Even as a human, control has always been my strong suit."
"Peter's my father. The Desert Wolf is my mother," she informed her.
"You must have a lot of anger then. I know your father and uncle really well. We got along because as a vampire when I first turned all those centuries ago, I didn't know my abilities or how to control them, so anger was almost my trigger. I guess that's why your dad and I got along. Anger has always been his trigger. But I've semi changed. I'm not exactly that person anymore, but if someone came after someone I care about, I'd pretty much release hell on them. I've lost tons of people when I was a vampire, so I've learned to cherish the friends I make and can keep," she explained. She then added, "When you go home, you should probably tell them I'm here. I'm human now, but that doesn't mean I'm free from the enemies I made as a vampire. And with the enemies I made, it's best not to be alone, just in case." She then told her, "You should probably head to your next class. I'll see you this afternoon."
"Thank you," she replied, before leaving for her next class.
"You're welcome," Kat replied.
After Kat had taught her how to write an essay that afternoon, Chris picked her up when it was dark outside, and they headed home.
"How'd it go?" he wanted to know.
"Well, I've learned these kids are even worst at learning anything and paying attention than my doppelganger's generation. Maybe they'll learn something now though, since I gave them an essay assignment in history kinda like a punishment. And I met Peter's daughter," she replied.
"I don't know he had a daughter," Chris told her.
"Me, neither. Her name is Malia. I had to help her learn how to write an essay, because she's learning now," she replied. "Being Peter's daughter though, I think she'll learn pretty quick."
"What's our next move?" he asked, since she always had a plan.
"For preparing for any of my enemies? Well, we do need to make sure we're loaded with stakes and vervain," she replied.
"Alright. Where do we get vervain from?"
"Well, it doesn't grow in Beacon Hills, so we'd have to either ask someone out of town to come to town with some, or you and I will have to go on a little trip for some. And I hate to say this, but the closest place to use is the one place I wish I didn't have to go. The city of New Orleans. I've got a witch friend there, but I had hoped that I wouldn't have to go there so soon. Going there means possibly having to see Elijah. The Mikaelsons, which is Klaus and his family, all live there, and you have to be extra careful at night. Vampires are all over the place, and nightwalkers are the worst."
"I've dealt with worst," he reminded her.
"Well, once we get to the bayou, we have to get Eve's attention. She knows the bayou by the back of her hand. She knows where all the plans grow. She's also an untriggered werewolf. Centuries ago, werewolves tried to take over the city, so they were cursed and sent to live in the bayou. Since then, they're human during the day, but there's only once a month that they're not forced to turn. I'd help them if I could, but the whole witch line is dead that cursed them, thanks to Marcel. I'm hoping Klaus has come on top, because as king of New Orleans, Marcel can do anything and get away with it. At least Klaus has Elijah to rein him in if he's about to do something that he shouldn't," she explained.
When the weekend rolled around, which happened to be after she'd gotten their essays graded, she and Chris packed and left town for New Orleans, driving all the way there.
It was Saturday afternoon when they got as close as they could to the werewolf camp in the Bayou.
"We have to get out from here, or we might spook any newcomers. Sometimes wolves will camp out with the Crescent wolves on the way out of town." She then got out and began walking until she knew they were by the camp. Then she called out to the wolves she knew from her time when she'd been here as a vampire. "Eve? Jackson?"
Suddenly, explosions were heard, and she heard familiar voices, since they were close enough to the camp to hear. The most important thing she heard though, was that Hayley who she knew was pregnant was with her people here, and Elijah was also there, and that someone sent a suicide bomber out here.
After a moment of getting herself ready to have to face Elijah after he'd abandoned her for his family yet again, she entered the camp with Chris, not exactly prepared for the aftermath of whatever explosions they were. She saw a lot of injured werewolves, but was thankful to see that Jackson wasn't injured. She knew that this wasn't her business, since she wasn't staying here, but a part of her wanted to help. Some of these wolves were friends to her. And there were families out here. Children.
"There's only one thing I can think of that would do this to wolves like these. Wolfsbane," she told Chris. Then, looking at the two people most that she cared about, she told him, "There's Elijah and Jackson. Jackson's their alpha. And there's Hayley. She's pregnant with Klaus' child." Then she added, "Find out which of these wolves can walk, and see if you can help in any way. The safest place I can think of is the church in the city, but Elijah's usually in charge, so he and Jackson have to give the order." She then began to head over to where the three of them were. She could see it looked like Elijah was working on healing from the blast, since he was on the ground trying to get his bearings. She could see that Jackson would be okay, and was getting to his feet. She saw that Hayley was a distance away, and since kids were something special to Katherine, instead of checking on the two she knew would be okay, she went to make sure she was okay, despite the fact that they weren't really friends or allies.
She knelt by the she-wolf, a hand on her arm, ready to help her up.
"Hayley, are you okay?"
"I'm fine. Thanks," she replied with her usual attitude, pushing her hand away.
"I was trying to help, you know," she commented, but she was used to her acting like this. "Once in a while, you need to learn to let people help you." She went over to Jackson. "Where's Eve? I came for a short visit to ask Eve to find me a bunch of vervain for a certain problem a hunter friend and I are about to have. Didn't expect any of this, though."
"She was by the trailer. If you want to help though, we need a place to go after this."
"Kieran's church," she told him. "No one can attack wolves in a church."
She went over to Elijah.
"Last time I checked, you weren't a werewolf advocate."
The Original was surprised to see her.
