When Snow left, the three of them came together in a group hug. They held each other for a long while, their hearts syncing. Henry pulled back to look at them.
"Is everything ok now? Can we get back to Operation Voyager?"
Emma smiled and rubbed his cheek. "Yeah, kiddo."
She turned to look at Regina and couldn't help cupping her face and kissing her. Henry looked away to give them their privacy. He didn't realize how surprising it would be to him to actually see his mothers together like this. Regina broke the kiss with a smile before glancing over at her son self-consciously.
"I should go home and get myself together before dinner tonight. I look horrible," she said as she ran her fingers through her hair.
Emma took her hand and smiled at her. "You're beautiful."
Regina blushed and cleared her throat. "Henry, are you staying here, or…"
Emma answered quickly for him. "Actually, Henry should go with you. I have boring errands to run."
Henry and Regina both looked at her suspiciously for a moment before they kissed her goodbye. The moment they were in the car, Henry got a text from Emma.
One last step in Operation Swan Queen. I need you to get your mom out of the house a little early. Leave your key under the mat for me.
Henry smiled excitedly.
I'm on it. Text you when we leave.
It took him a while to come up with a good excuse for them to leave the house early. Ultimately, he decided to exploit his mom's emotions a bit and convinced her to stop by the bookstore for the sequel to the comic he'd just finished. He knew she wouldn't be able to resist spoiling him a little after all the family drama. When they got to Granny's, Emma was the last to arrive. It left Regina alone to squirm under the uncomfortable smiling scrutiny from the Charmings. Regina stared painfully at the menu, as if she hadn't memorized the entire thing by now. When she heard the chime of the bell, she jumped. When she saw Emma rush through the door, she sighed in relief. As soon as Emma slid into the booth next to her, Regina whispered in her ear.
"Where the hell have you been!?"
"I'm sorry! I was finishing up errand and lost track of time."
Regina sighed as she tried not to look at Emma's parents. Emma looked around the table confused at the tension in the air. Regina was more than relieved when Ruby came to take their order. The intervention, however, did not last long enough.
"So…" David began as he took a deep breath. He looked between the two of them grinning. "Keeping it in the family, I see."
Everyone looked at him mortified.
"Eww, Dad," Emma yelled.
Snow smacked his shoulder hard. "David!"
Regina scowled at him. "What the hell is wrong with you!?"
Henry shifted uncomfortably in his seat wishing he could disappear.
David realized what he said and began to panic. "Oh God, no! I didn't mean it like that! I just meant that…well…we've always been family…"
Emma put her face in her hands. "Dad, please just stop."
Snow thought for a moment before she laughed a little. "You know, I guess we did sort of turn the tables on the whole mom thing, huh, Regina? You were my stepmother, and now I'm practically…"
The Queen shot a threatening glare in her direction. "Stop right there before I fire ball you're stupid face."
David could never resist the temptation to get under the queen's skin. "You can call me, 'Dad', if you want to," he said with a shit eating grin.
Regina was fuming as she raised her hand. Emma quickly grabbed her wrist and pulled her hand back down, holding onto it. "Ok, that's enough! All this awkward crap ends now, or we won't have another family get together until Christmas."
Snow and Charming quickly shut their mouths and nodded in agreement. Emma and Henry both sighed in relief. Regina, however, was still simmering in frustration. Henry decided it was best to try to change the subject.
"We're planning a vacation!"
Snow perked up. "Oh, really? When?"
Emma smiled at him gratefully. "We're going to take a long vacation this summer once Henry is out of school."
"Where are you going," David asked.
"We're not sure yet! We're calling it Operation Voyager," he said with pride.
The family discussed possibilities for the trip over their meal. Emma couldn't help but notice how preoccupied Regina seemed to be. She'd barely said two words the entire time. Occasionally, she would just nod or hum her agreement whenever Emma would try to include her. Ruby came over to clear their plates when Regina surprised everyone.
"Why don't we get some dessert?"
Henry and Emma were both intrigued. Regina rarely sprung for dessert at Granny's. After the way the meal had started, Henry wasn't about to hesitate, taking advantage of the offer. He ordered a sundae. Charming ordered a slice of pecan pie. Snow opted for just some hot tea.
"Do you want to split a slice of cheesecake with me, Emma," Regina asked sweetly.
"Sure! Whatever you want," she said, pleasantly surprised.
When dessert arrived, Regina took a bite of cheesecake, slowly and obscenely licking the spoon as she stared blatantly at Emma. Henry, thankfully, was too preoccupied with his sundae to notice right away. Snow's jaw dropped in the middle of blowing into her tea. Emma shifted uncomfortably as Regina held out her spoon, offering to feed her the next bite. With an awkward smile, she accepted. David pretended not to notice them as he stared at his pie.
"You have a little something…" Regina mumbled as she pulled back Emma's hair, leaned in, and carefully licked away the cheesecake left on the corner of Emma's lip.
Snow all but choked on her tea. Henry dropped his spoon in his sundae exasperated. "Ugh…you know, if I had known the price I was going to pay for you guys being happy would be being grossed out by my entire family, I might have given it a second thought."
"Henry," Regina began, regretting scarring her son in the collateral damage of her revenge on the Charmings.
"Maybe I should stay with Grandma and Gramps tonight."
"Henry, no! I'm sorry," she pleaded with him.
It didn't take long for him to concede. "Fine, let's just go home. I'm not hungry anymore."
Emma rolled her eyes as she glanced at her girlfriend. Regina looked at her apologetically. Emma said her goodbyes to her parents. Regina lingered for a moment as Emma and Henry went outside. Moving in front of them, she stopped Snow and David from following.
"The next time you two idiots decide you're going to mess with me, I'll make sure I scar you for life when my son isn't around. There are things I could do to your daughter that-
Snow quickly held up her hand, cutting her off. "We got it! We won't tease you anymore. We're sorry."
Regina smiled, completely satisfied she'd put them in their place. The trio went to Regina's house to spend some family time together.
"Is Emma staying over tonight" he asked.
Regina and Emma looked at each other awkwardly. "We hadn't discussed it, but she's welcome to stay any time she likes, of course," Regina said.
"Did you have something in mind, kid?"
"I thought we could do movie night or something."
Emma smiled. "That sounds perfect! I have a few ideas for things I wanted to show your mom. I know she doesn't watch tv, but-
"What are you talking about," Henry questioned her, confused.
"Your mom told me she only watches documentaries and the travel channel."
Henry glared at Regina. "You totally lied to her!"
Emma's jaw dropped as she looked at Regina. Regina shifted nervously. "I didn't lie…"
Henry rolled his eyes. "Mom is a closet Trekkie."
Emma gasped. "Are you kidding me?!"
Regina rolled her eyes. "I told you not to call me that," she scolded. She turned to Emma in defeat. "There are some shows I do enjoy. One of which, is Star Trek."
Emma laughed. "Oh my God, you're a total nerd."
"I will not tolerate the two of you calling me names," she huffed as she crossed her arms.
Emma looked at Henry intrigued. "What else does she like?"
"I'm right here! You can just ask me," Regina complained.
"I don't trust you to tell me everything right now! Spill it, kid."
Henry smiled. "She also likes the Twilight Zone."
Emma hummed in surprise. "Well, as a reward for telling the truth, you get to pick the movie, Henry."
"Oh, for God's sake…" Regina pouted.
Henry decided it was time to test the boundaries just once more today to see what he could get away with. Regina didn't usually let Henry watch horror movies as he grew up. She didn't want her little prince to have nightmares. She also didn't want to risk her late-night trysts with Graham to be interrupted by her frightened son. Emma, however, had been much more lenient when he'd lived with her in New York. Henry claimed the oversized armchair to himself, leaving his mothers to the couch. Emma sat down, giddy, when Regina grabbed a throw and snuggled up next to her. She gladly, turned to wrap herself more comfortably around her girlfriend. Henry smiled at the two of them before he started the film. When Regina realized they were watching a horror movie, she protested. Emma and Henry, however, had been able to quiet her rather quickly. She wondered if she'd gone completely soft now with those two. Emma laughed more than she ever had watching a scary movie solely because of Regina's commentary. The mayor spent most of the film yelling at the television, telling the characters how stupid their choices were and what they should be doing instead.
"Ugh, this one deserves to die. She's just asking for it at this point."
"They have to keep the tension up somehow. Otherwise, the movie would be over in 15 minutes," Emma offered.
"This is why I don't-"Regina grabbed onto Emma and screamed at an unexpected jump scare causing Emma to scream as well.
Emma and Henry immediately started laughing hysterically as Regina pouted. "This is why I don't watch these stupid movies!"
Emma held her tight as she tried to stop laughing. "It's ok, baby. I've got you."
Regina tried to shove against her. "I'm not your baby."
Henry couldn't stop laughing and the sight broke Regina. Before she knew it, she was smiling, laughing at herself. When the movie was over, Henry got up to give his mothers some space.
"I'm going to go up and read my new comic."
"New comic," Emma asked.
"I bought it for him before we went to Granny's," Regina told her.
Emma eyed him suspiciously as he shrugged innocently. "Goodnight, moms!" He kissed them both on the cheek.
"Goodnight, sweetheart. We love you."
Emma watched him go upstairs and then turned to place a sweet kiss on Regina's lips. "So, what was all that at dinner?"
Regina rolled her eyes. "Ok, I wasn't happy I ended up disturbing Henry, but they were asking for it. You know me. I wasn't going to let them win."
Emma shook her head. "It's always about revenge on my parents with you."
"Only when they decide to act like idiots! That's not my fault!"
Emma giggled and kissed her once more. Regina hummed against her lips as she slowly deepened the kiss. After things had begun to heat up between them, Regina looked at her with longing. "Stay with me tonight."
Emma smiled, kissing her again before she took her hand and pulled her off the couch. "I suppose we still have to christen your bedroom," she teased.
Regina grinned as she bit her lower lip in anticipation. She pulled Emma excitedly up the stairs to her room. When she opened the door, she gasped at the surprise waiting for her. The bed was covered in rose petals. There was a box of chocolates on the bed next to a plush teddy bear holding a card. Regina walked over and opened the envelope. On the inside of the card, she saw Emma's handwriting.
Forgive me for doubting. I will never make that mistake again. I promise I'll never run away from you or our family. I love you.
Always,
Your Idiot
Regina turned to her and wrapped her arms around her holding her tight. "I love you so much."
"I love you too. I wanted to make it up to you."
Regina stepped back and began to unbutton her shirt with a seductive grin on her face. "I think I know of a few ways you can make it up to me."
Emma kissed her hungrily, moving her hands across Regina's skin the moment her shirt was opened. Regina shrugged off her shirt and tossed it to the side before pulling off Emma's shirt. Urgently, they shed the rest of their clothing. Emma lifted Regina in her arms. Regina wrapped herself around Emma, gasping in surprise before they fell back on the bed together. Their breathing was ragged already as they kissed each other passionately.
"Fuck me, Emma."
Emma groaned and sat up long enough to tie her hair back. That simple act had Regina feeling feverish, anticipating the savior's mouth on her everywhere.
"Before I do, you mentioned sound proofing…" Emma said.
Regina smiled and waived her hand. "Done."
The two of them had made love. That night, they let their passions take control of them. Hours later, they had collapsed in a heaving hot mess, completely exhausted. Both were sweaty and breathless. Regina couldn't even open her eyes as she tried to slow her heart rate.
"I think I could die this way," Emma said, barely breathing.
Regina weakly nodded her head in agreement. They lazily draped themselves around each other before they both passed out. They slept more deeply that night than they had in their entire lives.
