Sneaking away
A loud alarm blared through the room. Caleb was the first to wake up. He opened his eyes and saw a clock on the bed stand.
Panicking he realized he woke up late and wouldn't have time for a shower.
Right, when he was going to get up he noticed a warm presence against his chest.
Looking down he saw Hanna. He thought he was still dreaming till the memories of last night rushed back into his brain.
Turning off the alarm he gently shook her awake "Hanna ."
She stirred not getting up.
"Hanna" he exaggerated trying to wake her up.
"Five more minutes please." She says turning over to face his body, however, she was still sleeping.
Caleb smiled and shook her for the last time waking her up. She sat up rubbing her eyes.
She couldn't lie, that was the best sleep of her life.
"Good morning." She says lazily before getting up.
Caleb however laid in bed. Usually, Hanna took the shower first then it was him.
"Morning." He smirked as she stretched and she saw her shorts start to ride up showing her stomach.
She blushed and went to her dresser picking out the clothes she wanted to wear for school.
"so how did you sleep?" He asked her.
Fucking amazing. "Good actually." She said trying not to look too eager.
Before Caleb could reply Hanna's text notification went off.
"Can you tell me what it says? It might be my mom or a s.o.s." Hanna asked picking up a skirt and leggings.
Caleb picked up her phone and read the text out loud "make sure you talk to Caleb about the trip."
Hanna's heart dropped.
Turning around to face him she saw an amused Caleb looking at her.
"What trip? The one you asked about a while ago?"
Hanna swallowed getting her heartbeat under control "yeah that trip."
She turned around trying to be casual. Choosing the skirt she put the leggings back.
"So who's all gonna be on the trip anyway?" Caleb asked referring to who was all going.
"Toby, spencer, Emily, Mya, Aria, and Ezra's gonna be there," Hanna answered grabbing a lemonade pink crop top.
It was silent for a moment and she felt the disappointment begin to boil in her stomach.
"So is there anything I should know? Money wise or anything." Caleb said standing up and walking towards her.
"I'm not sure how much we need yet. I'm paying along with aria 850, Spencer is paying 5,000 and Emily is paying 1,000. For the Airbnb. I forgot how much the guys were paying." Hanna said awkwardly not knowing much about Caleb's financial situation. She didn't want to upset him.
"I have more than enough trust me," Caleb said reassuring her.
Hanna debated if she should ask more about his financial situation but she caught the time. If she didn't take a shower now they were both going to be late.
"I'm gonna get into the shower," Hanna said gathering the things she needed.
Caleb handed her the towel she uses.
"Thanks," she said caught in his gaze.
"You are welcome" he smirked.
Biting her lip she turned around and headed to the bathroom.
———————————————
Hanna sat in her class doodling on the side of her test. However, her mind wasn't focused on the thing she was doodling she was deep in her thoughts.
Caleb ran in and out of her head. Excited about their newfound relationship and the trip.
She couldn't wait to see where this was gonna go. Though she couldn't help but to be scared. Any girl could see this could end disastrously. Hanna knew there was more to him than just a rough, sketchy person that was a sarcastic asshole and she was eager to see what it was under his shell.
Suddenly a note fell on her desk.
Snapping out her thoughts she looked around the class and saw Sean looking at her nodding his head to the note on her desk.
Hanna rolled her eyes and opened the note.
'Check your phone for my message'
Hanna shook her head no in reply. But sean mouthed "please Hanna "
Hanna once again couldn't help her eyes from rolling in annoyance. She forgot that she blocked him.
Unblocking him she read a message that came through.
"Can I talk to you?"
She looked up at him and sent him a confused look before she shook her head.
The bell rang signaling it was time for lunch and she stood up. Walking out of class she noticed someone texted her. Thinking it was Sean again she ignored it and went to her locker. Opening it she accidentally dropped her phone and her books.
Picking up her books and her phone she sees the text she ignored just now.
she saw it was Caleb. Not being able to stop the smile from gracing her face she read the text.
Caleb: hey do you wanna go out for lunch? I can tell Toby I have detention.
Hanna inwardly squealed and texted him that she'll be outside shortly.
She put her things in her locker before heading to the lunch table with her friends.
Sitting down with her friends she noticed
Everyone was looking at her expectedly.
"What?" She said confused.
"Well? Did you ask him?" Emily asked.
"Oh. Yeah, I asked Caleb just now. I saw him in the hallway a little earlier." Hanna lied.
"Hey, where is Caleb anyway?" Aria asked before putting a fork of salad in her mouth.
"Oh, he just texted me that he was going to leave campus to avoid detention." Toby shrugged.
"Back on topic, is he going with us?" Spencer said redirecting the conversation back on track.
"Yeah. And he's paying for his part." Hanna answered.
"Great, I'll let you guys know everything by Wednesday. Use this time to get your money together and to convince your parents." Spencer instructed everyone.
"Great that means this shopping trip is going to have a bigger purpose than usual." Hanna stood up grabbing her purse.
"Oh, do you want me to come with you?" Aria said grabbing her purse.
"No it's fine Mona's going with me, but we all can do a trip on Sunday or something." Hanna lied feeling a little bad.
Aria nodded "I think Sunday's good I'm also free Saturday."
"Umm, I have to miss the second option cause I might do captain tryouts on Saturday," Emily said.
"Later," Hanna said leaving the table before she got engaged in another conversation.
The last thing she wanted was to keep Caleb waiting.
However, she didn't see a person looking at her from across the cafeteria.
Going outside she walked to the front of the campus and she saw Caleb sitting on a bench outside.
"Caleb !" She called out walking towards him. Hearing her he turned to face Hanna.
"I hope I didn't take too long." She said smiling.
"Not at all. Though I did see a couple of guys fight over a girl who ended up having a girlfriend. That was entertaining." Caleb smirked.
Hanna snorted. "why am I not surprised."
"Shall we?" Caleb said pointing to her car.
Before Hanna could answer they were interrupted.
"Hey, Hanna! Can I talk to you for a minute?" A voice called.
Tensing up she turned around to see Sean
She mentally sighed. Why won't this guy leave me alone?
"Sorry, I'm about to go shopping," Hanna said.
"Just give me a minute," Sean said.
Hanna rolled her eyes before walking away with Sean a few feet away to where Caleb couldn't hear.
"What do you want!" Hanna snapped.
"Jeez, am I interrupting something?" Sean asked folding his arms.
She could've sworn she heard jealousy in his tone but she pushed the thought out of her head.
"Uh, he just asked me to give him a ride not that it matters."
Sean seemed to buy her lie and nodded. " look I know we haven't been on the best of terms, but I wanted to not end off our last year in high school as enemies or something."
"So?"
"So I'm saying, can we be friends? We were friends before we dated." Sean said hopefully.
Hanna pursed her lips.
"Please Hanna, I'm not saying we're going to be best friends but we can be friends who can talk and for it not to be so much tension every time we see each other." He added.
Honestly, Hanna was annoyed about how awkward and weird it felt seeing him. Maybe they could end on a better note. She just hoped she didn't regret this decision.
"I guess we can." Hanna gave in.
Sean looked happy "thanks, friend. Or should I say Hanna banana?"
Hanna scoffed with a playful smile "don't push it. Anyways I'm going. See you later." She said before walking to Caleb.
Sean watched her walk away with Caleb and began to frown.
Sitting in the passenger seat of the car she fastened her seatbelt.
"So where are we heading?" Hanna asked.
"Well, there's a park not too far down. And if you want we can get some Chinese food. A birdie told me that you love Chinese food." He smirked.
"Was it Toby?" She laughed.
"Aht, I won't tell who the birdie is. Ever." Caleb teased.
After getting Chinese food to go, they sat at the park swing sets. Fortunately for them, it was empty.
"So tell me about you," Hanna said to him.
"What do you what to know?" Caleb said before drinking his tea.
"Well, the basics. Where are you from?" She asked him.
"A lot of places." He answered.
"A lot of places meaning?" Hanna pressed.
"A lot of places." He chuckled. "It's my turn to ask you a question."
She looked at him amused while hoping he wouldn't ask something too deep.
"So tell me how you met the others."
Hanna blinked. " Well Emily and aria, I met in pre-k. Alison, Spencer, and mona I met in kindergarten we've all been friends since then. As far as toby I met him in 5th grade."
Caleb nodded. "That's a really long time."
Hanna smiled thinking about the old memories with her friends.
"Your turn to ask
"How did you get into the techno business?" She said chewing on her rice noodles.
Caleb let out a chuckle as if he was thinking of a memory. "I knew from a high schooler when I was in 3rd grade."
"Really that young? I was playing Barbies while you were hacking phones and who knows what." Hanna joked.
"Actually it was laptops and websites first. I got into phones like a year later."
Hanna laughed "regardless that's pretty cool."
"You want me to show you how to?" Caleb offered.
"Oh, no. Not my thing. All I need is my cellphone and I know how to work it." Hanna snorted.
Caleb just smirked "I know you are capable. I'll show you on the trip."
"You'll see that I'm not," Hanna replied folding her arms with a smile.
Rolling his eyes and laughing "we'll see."
After a small comfortable silence, Caleb spoke "so what is your type?"
Hanna furrowed her eyebrows "what do you mean?"
"Well considering how you went from goodie goodie quarterback to, as you like to call me "sketchy". I'm just wondering if you have a type."
"Well." She said mockingly. "I only dated one person before. Which is-"
"Sean." He finished for her nodding her head.
"Yup." Hanna nodded feeling slightly awkward bringing up an ex to someone she liked.
"How about you? Do you have a type?" Hanna asked.
Caleb smirked before answering. "I always had a thing for blondes."
Hanna chuckled at that. Of course.
"So you know my ex and stuff. Tell me about yours." Hanna said looking at him.
"My recent ex's name was Miranda. We dated for about 9 months and knew each other for 2 years." Caleb answered.
"What did she look like? Do you have a picture?" Caleb asked.
"Um, I think I do on one of my old old flash drives. But that's back in the basement though. She's short. A little shorter than you. Short brown hair." He shrugged.
Hanna felt horrible hoping that his ex was ugly.
"Why did you guys break up?" Hanna asked.
"I left out of town, so I ended up breaking up with her to set her free. Wasn't fair to her. And I made the right decision. I haven't seen her or spoke to her in 3 going on 4 months" Caleb shrugged.
Hanna nodded. "Did you love her?"
Caleb was silent for a bit before answering. "No. Did you love Sean?"
Hanna tried not to think too much about Miranda. Just thinking about her made Hanna feel negative.
"No. I was too busy trying to prove myself and make him see me the way I saw him. I didn't even get to get the chance to develop my feelings you know?" Hanna replied.
"Why did you guys break up?"
"He liked aria and Alison. Plus he couldn't give me what I want." She shrugged trying not to feel the sting she felt after saying it out loud. She tried not to let it bother her too much.
"I'm sorry. He's an asshole and honestly, he doesn't deserve you." Caleb said before grabbing her hand and holding it.
Hanna smiled at his touch. She opened her mouth to reply but the alarm went off signaling they had to be back on campus.
—————————————————
Once they got on campus it was time to go to their next class.
They both decided Hanna would go in first and he'd wait to go in.
Sitting in her seat next to Mona she pulled out her mirror and put some lipgloss on.
"You got some explaining to do." mona said turning to her and folding her arms.
"What do you mean?" Hanna said calmly. But on the inside, she was freaking out.
"I saw your friends in the hallway. They said 'oh I thought you were shopping with Hanna?' So of course, I covered but why? Where were you? I didn't see you anywhere."
Hanna spoke up quickly thinking of an excuse when mona cut her off. "Don't lie. I know you weren't on campus and I heard sean."
"What do you mean you heard sean?" Hanna asked.
"I was walking by and I heard him talking to Noel and Ben. He said you gave him a ride somewhere after your friends came up to me. And I quote 'she went to the mall with you didn't she?'"
Hanna inwardly freaked out. "What did you say?"
"I acted confused before acting like I got a call and said I was going to meet you somewhere. Now spill." Mona said raising an eyebrow.
Hanna sighed knowing she had no other choice.
Caleb walked into the class and Hanna hurried and turned her head acting like she was fixing her hair.
Mona noticed and squinted her eyes before a big devious smile spread across her face.
"You hooked up with Caleb at lunch didn't you?" She said with a hushed tone to make sure no one around heard her.
Hanna's head shot up to mona, her eyes wide. "What-"
"It's obvious from the way you were looking at him then looked away. How was he?" Mona asked with her tone low.
"We didn't hook up. we hung out and I like him okay? but don't tell anyone. Nobody." Hanna whispered pleadingly.
"I'm not gonna tell anyone. But at least let me know if you're gonna use a lie with my name in it." Mona said.
"Definitely," Hanna said inwardly relieved.
"So how did the hang-out go?" The brunette asked eager to hear the details of her best friend's love life.
"Okay well we left to"
"Hello, class! Today I have a slideshow presentation to show you guys!" The teacher walked into the class with a wide smile interrupting Hanna and Mona's conversation.
"Later" Hanna mouthed.
—————————————————————————
"Come on Han. Let's do the project. We haven't even started and we got this assignment like last week." Caleb smirked with his pencil in hand, writing in the work notebook.
Hanna huffed bored. "Caleb I don't do homework." She sighed rolling her eyes.
They were currently in Hanna's kitchen doing their project.
She wanted to watch a movie with him but he denied saying they needed to work on their project.
Which led him to do the outline and herself bored out her mind.
"Well, you will with me. And when we're done we can do something." Caleb said looking up at her. He put his hand on her knee and gave an assuring squeeze.
Hanna smiled and complied helping a little.
An hour later it was 5 pm and they were laughing and eating some macaroni and cheese.
"You know I bet if that man saw you here from Allen town he'd have a heart attack." The blonde laughed
"I wouldn't be surprised. I was a bad kid." Caleb laughed with her.
"I think I was a pretty good kid for the most part," Hanna stated.
Caleb chuckled. "Mmm, I don't know. You'd look like you'd be a trouble maker."
"Oh please. Way better behaved than you."
"And a better cook. Seriously this is good." Caleb said eating another spoon of macaroni and cheese.
Hanna turned to Caleb surprised. "It's not anything big. It's just box macaroni with some stuff I added to it. Like seasoning."
"I know but I don't know. I just really appreciate good food when I get it you know?" He smiled.
She smiled at the compliment and kissed his cheek.
"Thanks. But if you like that then you'll love my grilled cheese."
Caleb laughed at that about to comment when they heard the front door close.
Both of them froze looking at each other wide-eyed.
"Hanna I'm home early. I thought that maybe we can do a girl's night. I haven't really had quality time with my baby-" Ashley walked into the kitchen but stopped in her tracks when she saw her daughter with a boy in the kitchen.
Hanna felt her heart drop. "H-hi mom your back early."
Her mom blinked before putting on a polite smile. "Yeah, I got out of the meeting early so I figured I can come home to spend time with you," Ashley said.
"Oh Um Caleb this is my mom. Mom this is my friend Caleb." Hanna introduced hoping the tension would simmer down.
"Nice to meet you momma Marin." He smiled friendly.
"Nice to meet you, Caleb." Her mom said taken aback at his greeting.
"We were just doing this project in class and I made us some food," Hanna said gesturing to the notebooks and food.
"Oh, that's nice. Sounds like you guys had fun. But it's time for dinner plus our girl's night. so if you two could wrap it up." The older woman smiled politely before grabbing her purse and walking upstairs.
Hanna rolled her eyes at her mom before turning to Caleb "hurry. Basement!" she whispered.
Caleb quickly went to the basement and quietly closed the door. Hanna jogged to the front door and opened and closed the door loud enough for her mom to hear.
She went back to the kitchen and grabbed the stuff for their project. As she was gathering their stuff, she noticed footsteps behind her.
"So. Are you close friends with Caleb ." Her mom asked awkwardly.
Hanna turned around with an eyebrow raised "yeah." She answered.
"I'm not sure if that's such a good idea, Hanna. I know how guys like him are. Pulling you in with their...bad boy and tough guy act. I think it's best if you cut ties. He could be a bad influence." Ashley said concerned while folding her arms.
Hanna again rolled her eyes. " mom if anything he's been a good influence. You know I don't do homework and look at me." She joked, referring to the project she and him had been previously working on.
"Just be careful." Her mom said with finality.
Hanna resisted the urge to roll her eyes." Okay"
