A/N: This chapter is a continuation of the same day as the last chapter.

His boss had told him to take the whole day off, but he'd turned her down.

Not today. Today he needed to be here, couldn't be home with Blaine and his thoughts and the weight of the day. Her birthday.

The graveyard, the ice cream. It was all he could do to keep himself together for Blaine. For himself.

If he falls apart, he doesn't know if he can put himself back together again.

So he doesn't fall apart.

Which is why he's at work now, an emergency room shift because he knew it would be the busiest and all he wants in the world right now is a distraction.

But his shift is almost over, and it's been so long but it's still too soon, he feels like he just got here, it's too soon.

"Kurt?"

Sebastian's voice behind him, a tone he doesn't quite recognize in it.

Kurt turns, meets Sebastian's gaze. "Yes?"

"I know you're done soon, and ER shifts are the worst, but… Stefan just called in, so we're going to be short staffed. Any chance you could stay late?"

Kurt gives him a confused look. "I don't remember seeing him on the schedule."

Sebastian gives him a small shrug, and it takes another moment before what Sebastian is offering him sinks in.

"Yeah, I can stay."

"Thanks, Kurt. We owe you one," he says with a wink, before turning to walk away.

So much for no special treatment, he thinks.

Somehow, he finds he doesn't mind this so much.
