50: New Vistas, or A Matter of Perspective
Worm Fanfic
Hello, there! My name is Michael Byron, but most folks know me as Vista, the adorable shota ward. I am know for being cute, not liking to fight, and my stellar personality.
But that is bullshit. I am one of the strongest parahumans alive, an absolute disaster made manifest, and the longest-running hero of Brockton Bay, Massachusetts to be completely overlooked. I am about to wrap up my second year of heroism, and I have not ONCE been recognized for any award, honorable mention, or commendation in this whole time. Given that I am the Ward with the least infractions on my record, greatest victory rating, and am capable of making space my bitch, that kinda pisses me off. A lot.
On top of that, I have an out-of-world view of this place. Somehow, I don't know how, but I have a cursory understanding of how the future of this world is supposed to go. I know big names, big issues, and the big bad; sadly, my knowledge is kinda futsy. Sometimes I know thigs as I hear them, other times random facts pop into my head, and so on. Still, a crib sheet is nice. It MIGHT be somehow tied to my unusual mental maturity, but fucked if I know. Still, I'll take it.
Anyway, I have started writing this journal because I am done. Today, I am going to communicate, once again, with the powers that be of this organization. If they give me the tiniest amount of hope, I will stick around. If not? Plan B, Baby!
(Vista, who is a guy in my version [no reason, just easier for me to write as a guy] tries to talk to Director Piggot for some concessions to her for his years of service, and gets told, essentially, to shove it. He quits, having been prepared for just such a concern, and they try to claim he has been mastered. They send the Wards to bring him down, and he thrashes them (kicking Shadow Stalker into the Bay), then proceeded to beat up the gangs of Brockton Bay and arrest a majority of their capes, including all the Merchant capes, Oni Lee and Bakuda, and Hookwolf, Krieg, Cricket, Menja, Fenja, and Kaiser in on night, then sets up shop in the Boat Graveyard, gradually using his powers to turn the least in-the-way ship into a kick-ass lair, and removing the other wrecks. He then finds Taylor Hebert, trains her into an absolute UNIT, and helps her with her powers. The two of them then recruite Dinah, and maybe Lisa, Rune, and Hellhound, training them up.
His standard for training is that you should be able to take down 10 people with a rating number below yours, 100 of two levels below yours, and so on (Brute-10 should be able to take on 10 anything-9s, 100 anything-8s, etc.), a standard he lives up too with his level of Shaker-9. He trains Taylor to do so by training with combat with her bugs to help her keep track of her surroundings and by helping her to create weaponry from bug parts (by growing them, then shrinking them back once the work is done), trains Dinah how to ask the questions to keep her ahead of her foes, and so on.
His power, however, is supplemented by a single word. Perspective. By warping which direction is 'straight' he gains 360-degree vision, by altering the size of his boots and gloves, he can hit like a truck, and by altering the distance between points, he can accelerate himself, or his attacks to any speed he wants. Moreover, as his power is limited to line of sight, he can just roast people with the sun. as for the Manton Limit? Not an issue! After all, the amount of space around a person that is safe is very small, and, with space warping, it gets even smaller!)
