"I don't want a divorce, I just… I think we need some more time apart. I need some time."

Kurt can see the way Blaine watches him cautiously as he speaks, like he's scared of Kurt's reaction, and it's like a knife through his heart to know that Blaine has to tiptoe around him like this.

It's like a knife through his heart to know that Blaine does it because there's still love there.

"Okay," Kurt agrees. "I think… I think time is probably good. I think I have a lot I need to figure out."

"Yeah," Blaine nods. "Me too."

He hadn't expected it to be this… civil. That's the best word for it, really. It's not easy, it's just civil. No yelling, no tears, no raised or lowered voices or dramatics. Kurt had arrived, they'd sat down at the kitchen table, and they'd gotten right to it. It didn't even feel like talking to his husband, felt almost like talking to a stranger, and he wasn't sure if that made it better or worse.

"So…," Blaine starts, and Kurt can tell he's a little uneasy about this next part. "Um. I guess… who's going to stay in the house?"

Kurt blinks at him, surprised that it's even a question. But then, of course it's a question, because this is Blaine, and despite how much he knows Blaine wants to be in this house, he knows he would let Kurt have it if he asked.

He really, really doesn't deserve this man.

And he really, really doesn't want to be in this house.

"You can," he says, recovering quickly. "I'll find an apartment somewhere."

"You can stay here until then, if you want," Blaine offers, not quite meeting Kurt's eyes.

"No, it's okay. It shouldn't take me too long to find somewhere. I can stay at the hotel until then."

"Alright," Blaine nods, "if you're sure."

"Yeah. Yeah I am."

An awkward silence settles over them for a few moments before Kurt finally breaks it again.

"Well, um, there were a few other things I wanted to get while I'm here, if that's–"

"Oh, yeah, of course, um. Go ahead," Blaine says quickly, gesturing back toward the hallway. "Whatever you need."

"Thanks," Kurt says, pushing away from the table and standing. "I'll be quick."
