Chapter 46
(Phoebe's POV)
I wake up today and turn into Nathan. I lay my head in his chest and he wraps an arm around me. Today we have our 16 week ultrasound. We can find out the gender today, but we are not going to. What Nathan and I decided to do was have Rose Cruz get an envelope with the Gender in it and she is going to design the nursery since she is an interior designer. While we are gone at the hospital having the baby she is going to finish the nursery up.
I am very excited for tonight because Nathan, Henry, and I are going to the Cruz's for dinner. All of the kids are getting so big and I am so excited to see them. This all came about because last week Blakely and Spencer facetimed me off Mrs. Cruz's phone to say hi. I love knowing this family.
"Good morning," Nathan says and pulls me closer.
"Good morning," I smile and lean over kissing him.
"How did you both sleep?" Nathan asks. The baby has been fluttering in my belly. We can't feel it from the outside yet, but inside my belly I feel it.
"Pretty good, I only peed twice," I say and he laughs.
"Well then I will count that as a success," he says and I smile.
"Little man is sleeping in today," Nathan says. I lean over and check the monitor. He is asleep in his bed still. What a funny guy.
"Are you excited to see the little one today?" I ask.
"Of course I am, are you sure about not finding out the gender?" Nathan asks.
"I think it will be a very exciting surprise, do you want to find out?" I ask him.
"I know you are right it will be," he says and I smile.
"We can find out for the next one," I say. Nathan sits up on his elbow.
"Next one?" He says and I laugh. "Let's take it one at a time, Speed demon," he says and I laugh. He leans down and kisses me. I reach up and pull him closer to me.
"Doesn't mean we can't practice," I say and he laughs. He flips on top of me, cautious of my growing belly and parts my legs with his knee.
I wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him deeply. I have been quite insatiable lately. My husband is just so hot. Nathan's hands make their way up my shirt as he kisses my neck. This boy his a direct line to my hormones I swear.
"BEE BEE I UP," I hear through the monitor. Nathan pulls back and sighs. I look at him and smirk.
"We should probably get used to this," I say and Nathan rests his head on my chest. I laugh and run my hands through his hair.
"I will go get him," I say and Nathan nods.
"I will start breakfast," Nathan says and I smile thanking him.
I go upstairs to get Henry. He is jumping on his bed when I walk in. He did sleep well and is a ball of energy now. "Good morning," I say. He smiles and runs over to me.
"Bee Bee, I want cakes," Henry says. I smile at how much better he is getting at talking.
"Nate is downstairs making breakfast," I say and he runs past me to the gate. I pick him up and take him downstairs. I put him down as he runs over to Nathan. I see Nathan is making peanut butter toast and eggs.
"Hi buddy are you hungry?" Nathan asks.
"Cakes," Henry says.
"I made you peanut butter toast," Nathan says. That is what Henry ate all weekend and loved.
"No cakes," Henry says. Oh boy.
"Henry, I made you peanut butter and toast. Let's eat this and then tomorrow we can have pancakes," Nathan tries to reason with him.
"NO CAKES," Henry screams and throws himself on the floor. The terrible twos have been approaching us. I try to step in and Nathan puts his hand out. He has got it. We watch as Henry cries and kicks his feet. I will give it to him. He can scream very loud.
Nathan waits patiently for Henry to stop crying. When he does Nathan bends down to his level. "Henry, stand up," Nathan says. Henry does and he and Nathan are eye level.
"Henry, it hurt my feelings when you threw a tantrum. Bee and I do not like it when you cry. It makes us sad. Instead of crying we need to use our words," Nathan says. Henry is looking at him with a quivering lip.
"Sowwy," Henry says and Nathan nods.
"It is okay, next time when we are upset what do we do?" Nathan asks Henry.
"Words," Henry says and Nathan nods.
"Good job, now can we give hugs and then eat our breakfast," Nathan says and Henry nods.
Nathan takes Henry in his arms and kisses his head. "Go give Bee a hug," Nathan tells Henry. Henry runs over and hugs me. It is a very sweet sight to watch Nathan be a parent. He is such a natural.
We sit down and eat our breakfast together. Henry is completely fine and eats all of his food. After he runs off to the playroom. I help Nathan clean up and we both walk out to find Henry. When we get to the playroom he has on a firefighter hat and has a hammer in his hand.
"Are you playing dress up?" I ask him and laugh.
"Me fire," He says and we laugh. Nathan chases him around the room and I laugh as they crash onto his soft play mat.
I head into the shower and get ready for my appointment today. Once I am ready Nathan comes and switches out with me. I go into Henry's playroom and find him riding around in his toy car. "Look at you go," I say as he drives around.
I look down at my phone and see a text from Rose Cruz. "Is pizza okay with you guys for tonight? Any special orders for Henry? The kids are SO excited," her text says. I smile and respond.
"Pizza is perfect for us. We are excited too!" I say and hit send. When I look up Henry is climbing on his playmats.
"What are you doing?" I ask him and he turns and smiles. When there is a knock on the door Henry takes off. I follow him laughing. Mrs. Moore is watching Henry while we go to the ultrasound appointment.
I open the door and see Noel standing there. "Hi," I smile and hug her. She leans down to get on Henry's level.
"Hi sweet pea," she says to Henry and he gets bashful. I smile and watch them hug.
"Thank you for coming over," I say and she smiles.
"Anytime, I love hanging out with my Henry," she says. I offer her something to drink as we walk into the kitchen.
"I am okay, how is my grandbaby in there?" she asks.
"Good, I am feeling movement. We can't feel them from the outside yet, but they are moving a lot," I say and she smiles.
"Oh I am so excited for you two. This has been a long time coming. I remember the first time you came over to our house," she says and I smile.
"It seems like forever ago," I say and she nods.
"Nathan just adored you. He lectured all of us the night before you came over on acting normal and not suffocating you. John and I knew after that there would never be another," she smiles at the memory.
"He did not lecture you on how to be normal," I laugh and she nods.
"Oh yes he did, I had never seen the boy so nervous. Usually when his little girlfriends came over it was when we were gone. Let me tell you there was a lot of those girls," she says.
"Mom come on," I hear and look up to see Nathan. I laugh as he comes over to us.
"We were just talking about all your high school girlfriends," I say and tease him.
"Oh god, please not this," he says and I laugh.
"Oh come on, Nate. You really thought we wouldn't bring up Maria again. Where is she now?" Mrs. Moore asks.
"Don't know, don't care, come on Pheebs," Nathan says and I laugh with them.
"Okay, if you need anything call us. His nap is at two," I say and she nods smiling.
"Sounds good. Bring back some ultrasounds for me," she says and we promise we will.
We get into the car and head out. "She is funny," I say and Nathan rolls his eyes.
"She has her moments," he says and I laugh.
"She told me that you were nervous the first time I came over," I say and he nods.
"Of course I was, you were my first real girlfriend. The first one I cared about at least," he says and I smile. "I was so fucking nervous," he says and I laugh.
"Well, it worked out in your favor didn't it?" I ask him and he nods.
"I'd say so," he says and puts his hand on my growing belly.
When we get to the doctors, we get taken back. The nurse tells me to lay on the table and wait for Doctor Greene. I smile at Nathan and he rubs my head. When Dr. Greene knocks we tell her to come in.
"How is my favorite patient?" Dr. Greene asks and I laugh.
"I am good and excited to see our baby," I say. She smiles and tells me to lay back. She puts the cold gel on my stomach and gets the wand out.
I smile at Nathan whose eyes are glued to the screen. "There they are," she says and I smile. "There are the arms and the legs," she shows us. The little baby looks like a baby now.
"Do you want to know the gender?" she asks.
"No," I smile and she nods.
"A surprise baby," she says and I nod.
"We do want the gender written down in an envelope though." I say and she nods.
"Okay, we can do that," she says and I nod.
We watch the screen the rest of the time and she prints us pictures of the baby. I sit up and the nurse comes in to draw my blood. She hands Nathan the envelope and he puts it in my purse. I smile and sit as she takes my blood.
When we leave the office, Nathan takes me in his arms. It is such a good day. I get into the car and sit as Nathan holds my hand. "I can't believe we will have two kids in the summer," I say and Nathan nods.
"It is crazy," he says.
When we get back to our place Henry runs to come hug us. He is in a pull up and a fireman hat. I laugh and snap a picture of him. "Hi buddy," I say.
"Bee, I bake," he says and I look at him.
"What did you bake?" I ask him. He looks at Noel.
"Cookies," she whispers to him.
"Cookies," he says and jumps.
"Oh my goodness, we'll have to try them," I say and he smiles nodding.
We say goodbye to Noel and head to get ready for the Cruz's tonight. I put on a sweater. When I go to put on my jeans I try to yank them up. When I go to button them I realize they won't button. I look in the mirror and see my small but protruding bump.
Nathan walks in and I look at him. "Um, we need to go shopping," I say and show him my jeans.
"This is a good thing," he says and kisses my head.
"What that your wife is getting large," I say and he shakes his head.
"My wife is growing my child," he says and I smile. He kisses my head.
"Wear leggings," he says and I nod. I guess I will have to. Goodbye size 2 jeans hello stretchy pants.
I put on my leggings and we head out. Henry is very excited because we told him they have a lot of toys and a playroom like his. We put him in his car seat and head out.
"How old would all the kids be now?" he asks.
"Let's see, Charlie would be 13, Quinn would be 11, Spencer would be 9, Drew would be 6, Blake would be 4, and Karsyn would be 2," I say and he shakes his head.
"That blows my mind. How can they be so old," Nathan says and I shrug.
"Would you ever want that many kids?" Nathan asks.
"Six?" I ask and he nods.
"Um no," I say and he laughs.
"I am crazy, but not that crazy," I say and he smiles.
"How many do you want?" I ask.
"Four, but it is your body, however many you want is okay with me," he says and I smile. I grab his hand and squeeze it. I lucked out with him.
"Well, I would say three or four too," I say and he smiles.
"Who knows maybe we'll end up having six," I say and he laughs. We pull up to the Cruz's house and get out. When we knock on the door there is screaming and yelling.
"Phoebe," Spencer says and flings herself at me. Spencer and I have always had a very special bond.
"Hi girly girl," I say. "How are you so big npw," I say. Her hair is so long. She is a stunning little girl.
"Bee," I hear and see Blake. She is identical to Spencer. Drew and Karsyn come running over too. We step inside and I see Henry being shy.
"Hold on guys, let them get their coats off," I hear Mr. Cruz say. I smile and help Henry take his coat off.
"Hi guys," I smile and get passed around. I hug Charlie who is a teenager and Quinn who is not far behind him. They are such cute boys. I hug Drew and Blake and KArsyn. Spencer and NAthan are talking. Finally, Rose gives me the biggest hug.
"Hi Phoebe," she says. "Now who is this?" Rose asks. All the kids are staring at him.
"Kiddos, this is Henry. He has been staying with Nathan and I. He is 2 years old," I say. "Hen, say hi," I say. Henry gives a small wave.
"Henry do you wanna play with us?" Blake asks. She is so sweet.
"Pway," Henry says and smiles. That is the key to his heart. Blake takes his hand and says "let's go to our playhouse," Henry looks at me and I tell him it is okay to go.
They run off and I look at Nathan and smile. I am so excited for them. We go into the kitchen and they hand NAthan a beer.
"So tell me what is up, Charlie how is middle school?" I ask him.
"It is good, I like my teachers and am going to try out for the basketball team," he says and I smile.
"If you need any help you know who to ask," I say and nudge Nathan.
"Oh yeah, anytime just call me," Nathan says and Charlie nods.
"So Phoebe, we haven't told the kids the news yet," Rose says. It is the oldest three upstairs. Blake, Karsyn, Drew and Henry are all playing downstairs.
"What happened," Spencer says looking nervous.
"It's nothing bad, sweets," I say and rub her back.
"Well what is it," she says and I smile.
"Well, NAthan and I are going to have a baby in July," I say and Spencer gasps covering her mouth.
"Congratulations," Quinn says and runs over hugging me. He has always been the sweetest soul. I kiss his head and smile as Charlie hugs me.
"Bee, you are pregnant," Spencer says and wraps her arms around me.
"And your mom is doing the nursery. She is going to know the gender before any of us," I say and she smiles.
"Can I help PLEASE," Spencer begs.
"Of course, I trust your taste girlfriend," I say and she smiles. Spencer has always had great taste in clothes and design. Even when she was two she would tell me what did and didn't match.
"Speaking of," I pass Rose the envelope.
"Is this it?" She asks and I nod.
"Can I open it?" She asks and I nod looking at Nathan.
"I wanna see," SPencer says.
"No just mommy is going to look for now to make sure that no one says it on accident," She says and Spencer nods.
Rose opens the envelope and a smile grows so large on her face. I look at NAthan and he laughs. I am so excited. She covers her mouth and closes the envelope and puts it up high. Tears well in her eyes as she comes over to hug me.
"You are going to be such a good mom," She says and I thank her. "I mean it you were born for this," she says and I laugh.
"I hope so," I say.
"Congratulations Nathan," Spencer says and he hugs her. I love their bond.
"Thanks Spence, this baby is going to look up to you," Nathan says and she smiles.
All of a sudden the tornado that is the youngest four comes in running. I look at Henry and he is laughing following them. He is having so much fun. I am realizing how much fun he has around other kids. Nathan and I should look into a daycare a couple times a week.
"Crazy kids," Rose says. The pizza gets delivered and we all try to usher the kids to the table. I smile as Henry insists on sitting next to Blake and Karsyn and Drew.
"Here buddy," I say and cut up his pizza.
"Tank you, Bee," he says and I smile kissing his head.
The adults sit at the counter and eat. "So how has the transition been into the teenage years for Charlie?" I ask them.
"Actually pretty good. We were preparing for the worst. There are days where he is moody and we just let him be. But for the most part he is still as sweet as can be," she says and I nod.
"Those days can be hard, I have a teen population at work. They can be a handful," I say and she smiles.
Nathan and Jason talk about sports and work. Rose and I sit and talk about the kids. It is so good to see them. It is weird to think 10 years ago I was their nanny for just the oldes three. Time flies and it scares me.
When it is time to go, I call for the kids to come upstairs. They all run up and Henry runs chasing after Drew laughing. We definitely will have to get him in a facility with other kids.
"Hen, it is time to go," I say and Henry says no.
"Yep, come get your coat on," I say and bend down holding his coat out.
"No, stay," he says.
"Buddy, say bye bye," Nathan says.
I hug all the kids goodbye and when Henry still won't come. "Come on, Henry let's race to the door,' Spencer says. Henry takes her hand and they start running. Rose winks at me and we walk over.
"Bye Moore's," Rose says and I wave as Nathan picks up Henry.
We get him in his car seat and drive home. "We need to get him around other kids more," I say.
"I was thinking the same thing," Nathan says.
"I will look into it tomorrow," I say and Nathan smiles.
We get home and Nathan takes Henry to bed. I put on pajamas and climb into bed. I hear Nathan come in and I turn to see him. "Hi," I smile as he climbs into bed.
"Hi Bee," Nathan says and kisses me.
I kiss him back and sit up. He pulls me on top of him. I cup his cheeks and kiss him passionately. All of a sudden my phone goes off. "Mmmm Seriously," I say. I pull back but Nathan pulls me toward him again.
"Ignore it," Nathan says against my lips. I listen to him and keep kissing him. My phone goes off again and then again.
"Okay okay," I say and lean over grabbing it. I see it is Claire. I quickly pick it up.
"Claire what's-" I am cut off by crying.
"Phoebe," she says and sobs.
"Sweetheart what is wrong?" I ask her. I put her on speaker so Nathan can hear.
"Can I- Can I come over," she sobs.
"Of course, do you need a ride where are you?" I ask her.
"I am walking there, I am on fifth," it is 10 oclock at night and she is walking downtown. I freak out. Nathan jumos out of bed and throws on sweatpants and a shirt.
"Nathan is coming sweetheart. Stay where you are," I say.
