Shockwave heard everything, saw everything that bloomed under Optimus' announcement. To say that people were upset was...quite an understatement if one believed ships opening fire on Crystal City's Palace normal behavior. Reports of calls for impeachment, which technically weren't applicable to a monarchy as that would be instead a dismissal, and riots cropping up everywhere across Cybertron were beginning to be the norm in the past few days. It was hard to keep up with even as he stayed in a hotel in Crystal City's outer limits, not far from the action.
Optimus had made a request in his announcement for Decepticons to rise up as well. Shockwave was quick to contact his leader for what they wanted to do. He knew the most likely answer and that was they would join Optimus' fight against Rockrider. Even if they weren't all on the friendliest of terms with Autobots such as him, not one Decepticon wanted that serpent of a femme to be in control. It had to do with two things: the inability she had demonstrated so far to protect and serve Cybertron and what she may or may not have done to their previous leader, Lord Megatron.
That was an outright disrespectful move that even Arcee never made despite having all the power to do so. That's why bots like Scythe trusted Arcee; she held up her end of the bargain and made it fair to everyone regardless of faction. Rockrider held no such clemency, and it was pissing people off, especially Shockwave.
"Shockwave, you must see my side. Optimus has nothing to offer like I do! Join me and help overthrow this revolution, and I'll give the Decepticons anything your faction wants," Rockrider smiled as fake as Starscream's lying tongue.
"You have nothing I want. And I don't need anything therefore your argument is illogical."
"You have got to be kidding-Shockwave, put me on to your leader. I wish to speak to them personally since you can't seem to listen to reason."
Shockwave shook his head, "I can deny that order on the premises of two things. One, I've already talked to the Decepticon leader, and they gave me full permission to go about this problem as I see fit. Two, you have no authority here. Your commands are meaningless to me. I would obey the queen if she was present, but it is rather unfortunate she is not available at this time."
Rockrider twitched and slowly shook in rage before snapping. "YOU SORRY SON OF A-!"
The communication shut off on Shockwave's end with a press of a button and Bumblebee stood from his spot in hiding with a laugh, "Never have I seen a bot with more temper tantrums than a sparkling. And to think she is a Councilmember? What did she do? Cry until she got the position?"
"Well, from my understanding from Perceptor, she was brought onto the Council because she was Alpha Trion's apprentice and knew enough to run the Iacon Archives and Hall of Records on her own."
"Explains how she knows so much about the old caste system. Windblade said she needs to get back to her home. She'll keep Cybertropolis on guard and make it a haven for us to fall back on. She also said she really wants to kill Rockrider, and I've very tempted to give a sword and just letting her go ax-crazy on the palace."
The scientist pressed a few more buttons on the console. "But if we do that, Rockrider will have enough firepower in the palace to kill Windblade."
"For the time being." The monitor screen beeped, and Bee looked at it curiously. "What are you looking for?"
"A signal has been popping up on my radar. It's a distress signal but every time I try and pinpoint it, it disappears. It's been appearing all over Crystal City throughout the day. A distress call or a trick is undetermined."
"Where is it now?"
"Crystal City's warehouse complex, south end."
Bee gestured to the screen. "Then let's go."
Both Bumblebee and Shockwave took their ship with Scythe onboard and travelled to the area. It was Shockwave who made the undisclosed decision that weapons might be needed just in case. Given they were current enemies of the throne, it wasn't a bad idea.
The warehouse complex was a vast number of warehouses that stored anything from personal items to business contents and even some royalty artifacts if one knew where to look. Whatever the signal was seemed to resonate deep within it but thankfully, it was immobile now. Rounding a corner, all three mechs were on their guard.
Suddenly, they heard something clatter and made their way towards it from one straight of warehouse buildings. Another noise came closer, and they ducked behind a wall for safety. When it sounded like someone was approaching, all three sped around the corner with their weapons pointed at the target.
"You finally get my message and then you threaten to shoot me? I expected better."
Stunned, the three bots immediately recognized the voice with Bee muttering, "Tyrus?"
The older mech coughed, his frame dented with scratches and paint smears, but he seemed functional. "If you think I was going down in that prison without a fight, you'd be severely mistaken."
Scythe ignored the grumpier Councilmember's demeanor and ran up to briefly hug him before he was pushed off, not that he cared as he was too excited over the fact Tyrus was still alive. "You old bruiser! What happened? We thought were a goner?"
"Rockrider's guards tried to coax me into giving you bold idiots up. I refused and jumped at them. They beat me at first, but I got the upper hand. Knocked the leader of the troop out, the rest I either killed or injured. I managed to escape but I was found again wandering the streets trying to get back to my safe house here in the city. They tortured me for information, but they ended up revealing to me everything Rockrider did. I escaped again when a guard wasn't paying attention. Ever since, I've been sending short signals to anybody who could find them. Lo and behold, you three show up."
"What's this dirt you have on Rockrider? Anything we haven't announced?" Bee smirked.
Tyrus chuckled, "Ah yes, Optimus took charge again. I saw. Most of what I learned was said but I've got something that might just send Rockrider off the real deep end of her problems. You wouldn't mind giving me a lift, would you?"
"No, the fare is twenty credits," Scythe said in a serious tone.
Tyrus smacked the side of his shoulder and the other mech laughed.
The ice caverns went even deeper than they thought. The Metal Heads didn't follow them through like they assumed they would. It seemed the Metal Head Leader was awaiting and had no need for them to be escorted. That was a pride no amount of money or corrupt personality could generate; that was a great level of confidence.
More open areas caked with the alien warts and vines siphoning Energon and moisture from the walls looked disgusting like a parasite. Before they even moved a foot in it, something long and centipede-like shot down like a bullet train from a hole in the ceiling and curved into a hole in the ground spooking both her and Moonhunter. Megatron only showed some panic upon seeing them jump. When the creature was long gone, they pressed forward but they found the centipede wasn't the only resident.
Two other centipedes made of the same ghoulish metal and had skull gems were resting together in a crevice. One appeared to look at them to make sure they weren't going near it before resting its head back down again. These "Metal-pedes" seemed uninterested in conflict but like the other Metal Heads, they probably were restricted from engaging.
They reached a cliff in the icy alien terrain that dipped into a huge section that had no ice seen, all alien material. Then the most horrifying discovery befell them. Trapped in the wall surrounded by the pulsing, living vines were remnants of Cybertronian metal, their faded color suggested a ship. Nearby, several bodies of deceased Cybertronians were all but molded into the wall itself. Another crew of a vessel Arcee sent to investigate the isle, another fallen to the contents of said isle.
Below the ship parts, there was a moving portal-like mirror. Jumping down into the space with Megatron and Moonhunter following, Arcee made her way to it and was entranced by the rippling of her reflection. She pressed her hand against it, and it changed from a mirror to a surveillance feed, showing the arena they had just left.
"A portal of my design to let me watch over my nest. Convenient, isn't it?"
They looked around for the voice but still couldn't see the owner of it.
"Those poor Cybertronian fools thought they could invade my home. Well, I don't take kindly to those who barge in uninvited, you see. My master doesn't like it either."
Arcee frowned and called up, "Your master, Tigressa? Is she here?"
"It seems that your persistence has made someone very angry, and to see her again...well, you must have really upset them. I can't help but pity you."
"You sound like you're going to die, like you know we'll win."
"I have no illusions of what you have accomplished. As a seer and a warrior, I know when I come across a fighter when to respect them, and you are something indeed. But do not mistake my compliment for absolute immunity. I have seen a great number of people fall to such beliefs."
"Like yourself, Sephtis?" Megatron bit back. They both knew they had a fifty-fifty chance of guessing the name right. Arcee was surprised Megatron guessed correctly.
The sound of movement somewhere in the area made both bots paranoid. "So, you know my real name. Impressive, but I only go by Kor now. I have no affiliation with my past life. I was born anew as a creature of indescribable power and unchained intelligence, an epiphany of creation and how easily it can be remolded to one's liking."
Arcee slowly looked up upon hearing something clattering against metal and saw the shield gem they sought in a ball of dark energy hanging on the ceiling. But it was suddenly covered by the most hideous Metal Head she ever saw.
A scorpion's lower body and tail with six thick metal-shielded crab-like legs was combined with a brownish silver armored torso. The tail had barbs surrounding the enter lower end with a stinger of silver and the same yellow warts that grew on the wall also adorned it. Two three fingered hands with muscular arms and two smaller pincers near its abdomen helped it crawl upon the ceiling. The face looked like a typical Metal Head's with the four yellow eyes but instead of just a skull gem on its forehead, it had eight long white appendages sticking out of the side of its head, four on each side with smaller skull gems on every appendage. Cabling mixed with blue organic skin with four orange insect-like wings on its back was distasteful and it made Arcee wish that it was something else.
The creature peered down at them with a growl then suddenly jumped down, turning to land on all six of its legs. With a rigid posture and a hiss, it laughed, "At last, we meet."
That was Kor, the Metal Head Leader, and Arcee couldn't wrap her head around that. He looked like a combination of all the Horaquan types...just uglier. "Ah, you're a bit bigger than I thought you were going to be."
"Did you honestly think I would be the esteemed ruler of such a glorious species if I wasn't?" Kor pressed, leaning close and proving he was far too large compared to them.
Arcee nearly fell over when he dwarfed her. She then gave him a crooked smile, "Really? I thought that was your master?"
Kor paused before snarling, "Insolent, little brat."
"Hey now, you can use stronger words. I am no stranger to them but then again, don't use your entire vocabulary in one conversation," she prodded.
"Amusing, but you have no idea how important I am to this nest and what I have done to keep our species alive through worse than even Cybertronians trying to get out of the situation they caused themselves. Oh, I've heard much about Cybertron. My sources across the galaxy have been communicating with me long before you arrived. The Allspark offered me these mountains as a safe nesting ground for my legion. In return, I supply it with Eco and the Energon bred from our blood here to empower it. It was fun hearing about your little escapades but unfortunately, my dear, all that must come to an end.
"I know of your dethroning, Arcee, and I certainly know how much of a disgrace you are as a queen if you were able to let those less worthy among you take control. You may preach your skills on the battlefield, against my commanders but you are no such thing to me. How does it feel to see that behind that warrior façade you convinced yourself of, you are instead just a scared, pathetic soldier following in the footsteps of those leaders before you...and among you? How does it feel to know you are truly a failure?"
The words hit hard and even Arcee couldn't just ignore them. It wasn't any new method of insult; she had heard of something similar thrown her way before, but the way he said it was enough for it to seep into her mind. She wouldn't cry, not now, but it hurt hearing that. At the same time, she thought about it. If she was such a failure, how did she make it so far on the isle?
There was no failure in getting help when one needed it, there was no failure in getting five of the shield gems when shiploads of bots couldn't, and there was no failure in fighting to get back home regardless of what had happened. Nobody had complete control of every aspect around them or their lives. She probably couldn't have stopped whoever took her spot anyway. It was moving forward and righting those wrongs that mattered and nothing Kor said about that could make that understanding any less true.
She slowly shook her head, "I'm not a failure."
"You are nothing. You are no Optimus Prime," the Metal Head spat.
Megatron growled in her place, "She's an excellent leader, better than I was even to my own troops! And you should speak? You've done exactly what I've done, betraying your own species for your own gain then using an army to hide behind. You have no right to criticize her!"
Arcee stepped in front of him to the warlord's surprise and then simply said, "You're right. I'm no Optimus Prime. I'm me, jackass."
Kor was most frustrated and his natural smile on a neutral expression managed to turn into a very sour frown that his face didn't seem like it could stretch far enough to make. "You come into my nest and dare berate me?! Then you have chosen death and I will see your destruction through before you even step foot in the presence of my master! Let's see how much of warriors you think you are!"
Raising up his arms and four of his legs to be imposing, he made an immediate swipe at Arcee. He caught her with the backhand and slid her out of range as Megatron ran towards him in fury.
Unleashing his falchion sword, Megatron made an upper cut to Kor's face and struck the Metal Head's left eyes. Although the eyes were undamaged, a nasty scar lied right down the center. He then tried to slice off the larger being's arm, but Metal Kor caught the blade and turned his servo holding the blade to the side. He then gave Megatron a head butt before swinging him around and tossing him.
Moonhunter dodged getting crushed by Megatron's tumble and sprinted at Metal Kor with a snarl. Leaping up and snagging one of the appendages on the side of Kor's head, the Nitrotiger crawled over the latter and tugged trying to tear it off. Kor wobbled his head before whipping forward and sneering at the cat now hanging in front of his face. Opening his gigantic jaws, he tried to bite Moonhunter's body in half, but the cat let go and disappeared under Kor's scorpion lower body.
A chomp sounded and Kor froze briefly. He lifted his back right leg to see Moonhunter nibbling on the metal dactylus as the cat hung off the ground, latched onto it like his life depended on it. At first, Metal Kor merely raised a brow with a confused grunt, but then he growled at the Nitrotiger before stomping his leg down to try and impale him. The cat gave one last experimental bite to the leg before it was brought down and let go, looping around Kor in an attempt to trip him up.
While Metal Kor was distracted, Arcee quickly ran and sent a flying kick right into his face. She knocked him backwards with his crab-like legs scuttling for balance. As he was wiping his face, Arcee grabbed a chunk of ice and brought out a blood grenade, hiding it behind her back. He recovered and laughed.
"Is that the best you can do?"
Arcee opened the grenade's cork and poured the substance on the ice. "No, I got a lot of tricks up my sleeve, trust me."
He growled, opening his mouth to reveal his dastardly sharp fangs. She used that moment to chuck the ice right inside, hitting the back of his throat and forcing him to swallow. Kor held his abdomen before a sudden muffled boom rang out. Arcee smiled until he burped fire with a grin forming.
Seeing her face drop, he taunted, "Trying to feed me explosive meals now? Unfortunately, I'm not allergic to bombs. Very high tolerance in fact."
"Are all Metal Heads immune? Damn."
"No, just nothing short of a nuclear bomb hurts the bigger ones like me," Kor smirked.
Arcee scoffed, "Wait here and I'll go get you one."
"No thanks, my dear," he chastised before his eight appendages on his head curled in front of his face. A sudden blast of energy appeared as all eight touched and three bolts flew at her.
She rolled to dodge the first, barely missing the burst in the aftermath when it hit the ground. The second zipped past her and the third hit right in front of her. The following burst pushed her back against the material covered wall on her side. She shook off the unexpected hit as Kor crawled towards her. To her surprise, he leaned forward so his tail could whip out at her with its metal stinger. She fled as it hit just where she was causing a crack to appear.
Three more blasts emitted from his head. This time she out maneuvered all of them before pulling out her blaster. "Megatron! Strike!"
Kor was confused by the command until he turned when he heard a battle cry and felt himself pushed backwards into an uncontrolled roll onto his back. Megatron jumped off him and activated his cannon as soon as Kor sat up. The blast launched the Metal Head to flip and then he grew enraged.
Using his front two legs, he lifted himself and then slammed back into the ground causing a shockwave of purple energy to crawl across the floor. It hit Arcee and tripped her, but Megatron was able to leap over it.
While Kor was getting up, he swung on the large Horaquan's arm and climbed on his back. The Metal Head Leader let his insectoid wings take flight, hovering him over one of the Metal-pedes' pits before skyrocketing up and slamming himself and Megatron against the ceiling. The warlord was dazed and almost slipped off to fall into the pit but gripped one of the wings at its joint.
"Let go, you brute imbecile!"
That stirred Megatron away and he frowned, pointing his cannon at Kor's face. The Horaquan flinched at the sight and did a flip midair causing Megatron to accidentally shoot upward at the ceiling in nearly the same place as the crack from Kor's attempt to knock him out. The crack grew larger, and the ceiling rumbled for a second before dying in sound. The two scuffling in the air ignored it.
Then Megatron reached out to his back and pulled out his sword again. Rearranging his hold on it, he brought the weapon directly into the socket of the wing, earning a booming roar from Metal Kor. He twisted the blade until the wing broke off, forcing the Metal Head to land but as soon as he did, the latter reached around and caught Megatron's leg. He flung the Cybertronian off. Before Megatron could stand up, Kor sent the jagged tip of his crab-like leg into the grey armored shoulder, piercing the metal and bending it.
The warlord cried out in pain as the heavy weight of the leg with the force being applied dug deeper to hit the shoulder joint. It was instant karma for Megatron.
Kor laughed, "You break something of mine..."
"...And I break you!" Arcee shouted. She sent a punch to Metal Kor's face, and he stumbled back holding his snout.
Dark sludge poured out from the edge of the Metal Head's mouth, the same stuff Arcee saw leak from the Thundershock when she stabbed it. She watched it curiously bubble but kept Megatron behind her as he tended to his shoulder while keeping an eye on Kor. One of his teeth was bent back farther than the others and after touching it, Kor growled at her like an animal. She made a gesture to approach tauntingly, and he fell for it.
Taking out her blasters, she fired at the Horaquan. As quick as lightning, Kor swung his tail around and hit one of her blasters up toward the ceiling where four shots went off. The already cracking area got more firepower and with it, more cracks rippled across the whole area. She abandoned the blasters once she took notice of the predicament they were starting to create for themselves. Instead, she took out Dagger Prima which made the Metal Head Leader stop.
"Solus Prime's greatest mistake, the cursed blade of treachery. You have it?"
Arcee narrowed her optics and looked down at the dagger. "What do you mean?"
"You're Cybertronian, yet you do not know your own history? That monstrous weapon was the reason Solus Prime was killed. The Allspark loaned its power to Solus as a gift which she used to craft that dagger, but she betrayed the Allspark with the other Primes and planned to use the dagger against the Allspark to mute its powers. But the Allspark found out and cursed them into insanity resulting in Megatronus killing Solus after another Prime convinced him with his paranoia it was necessary through an unchecked jealous rage. When he was caught, he was banished by the remaining Primes with the Allspark's entrapped power to walk a faraway forbidden planet for all eternity as a shattered form of himself and his madness."
Megatron scowled, "That's a lie. The Allspark was already entrapped in its casing when Solus died, or at least that's the version I know. And the dagger was made by lightning, crafted by Solus' own hand."
"Is that what they told you? The Allspark was siphoned of its powers after the Primes recognized the curse it brought and as punishment, trapped it inside its prison for millions of years. Solus was already dead by then and that blade is a terrible reminder of the broken bond between the Allspark and Solus Prime. It is an omen, and you brought that wretched thing here. No wonder the Allspark has become unnerved by your presence."
"How do you know all this?" Arcee asked distastefully.
Kor smiled, "Because Tigressa was around during that time...as was I. Everyone in our solar system knew."
The blue femme held the blade up and sneered, "Then I guess this dagger is about to give you a ton of bad luck."
"Bastards, all of you!"
"Hey, Moonhunter is an innocent in all this, and I will not stand any disrespect toward him!"
Megatron gestured to himself in disbelief, "What about me?"
Metal Kor had enough of their squabbling and brought his fist down towards Arcee. She caught it which cracked the floor upon pressure and slowly lifted it up to the Horaquan's surprise. Shakily, she sent him a dark glare.
Suddenly, she let his fist go as she sidestepped I, allowing it to hit the ground. She latched onto his arm and got close to deliver a swift kick to the jaw. As he tried to catch her, she leapt to the other arm and brought the blade to puncture his throat. She was excited to find she hit a major artery which burst but at first, it didn't faze the Metal Head Leader fast enough.
Kor managed to grab her and tried to throw her off only for her to bounce back by using one of the warts on the wall as a squishy trampoline. He found she was too small to capture efficiently. Every time he tried to at least counter her, he was becoming more sluggish as the wound on his neck started to leak heavily. Then Arcee was lifted by a wounded Megatron and tossed right at him like a football. She hit his abdomen and he grumbled at the feeling of his guts vibrating from the unexpected jab.
Metal Kor stumbled back with one leg slipping and the others shivering, threatening to lose their balance. He was more bewildered than anything but barked, "How can this be? I was certain you would be dead by now! I am superior!"
"Yeah, I get that a lot, Metal Breath, but most of the time, it's through animal noises yelling at me as they bite the dust," Arcee said, taking out the empty blood grenade orb and filling it with a sample of Kor's corrupted blood. It would be useful for Bolt to study with to someday figure out more of the virus itself.
The Metal Head Leader panted, "No matter what happens, my master will be waiting. This isn't the end though! I will kill everyone you care about, every single friend and family member you have in the galaxy for this!"
Arcee frowned but looked up to see the ceiling above starting to collapse, cracking from the combination of the unchecked weight of ice above and the firepower both she and Megatron accidentally unleashed upon it during their fight. With a few holes where the Metal-pedes dive in and out on the ground behind him, that launched a plan in her processor. When Kor began to approach her again, she pointed her blaster up towards the ceiling.
"Start hunting, Kor."
She shot multiple blasts up and hit the alien vines that snapped under the pressure. Specks of ice and foreign material trailed down from the breach before it all came crumbling down. Kor's four eyes widened, and he was forced backwards to avoid the falling debris. Some fell behind him entering the pits to fill it, others hit just in front of him, narrowly missing him. The shield gem fell too, bouncing off the ground to sit in front of Moonhunter.
Kor spotted Arcee grabbing Megatron's arm with Moonhunter following, shield gem in his mouth, to scale the platform out of the chamber quickly and yelled out to them furiously while he spit sludge out of his mouth.
"I'll be back someday to enact my revenge upon you if by any small, measly chance you survive! You think this is the first time someone has ever gotten lucky? I always come back! We will meet again!"
She was fast to retort back with a smile, "Good, you can tell me all about your failure then."
He made a bewildered grunt as he was taken aback by the ironic echo before he peered up to see a giant portion of ice and nest materials coming right down on top of him with a loud groan.
"Oh n-"
The boulder of ice pushed his head and body back, causing him to fall into the Metal-pedes' blocked tunnel and the rest of it followed in. Only the stinger of his tail could be seen poking about between the rubble of the ceiling. The remainder of it crashed down burying the rest of the area.
Arcee helped Megatron up from stumbling and ran back through the tunnel as a crack above them followed. They could hear parts of the tunnel collapsing too, which urged them to move faster.
The arena had Metal Heads staring in the direction at the noise and they ran past all of them more concerned about being crushed than chased. The Metal Heads followed them with their eyes until the cracks from the tunnel ripped up to the ceiling and across the walls in seconds. All the Horaquan present retreated with growls trailing the bots into the tunnel that led to the final area before the exit.
Crossing the pit when the Titanotops remained headless resulted in pressing against the wall and quickly shuffling on the thin remaining plates of the floor before they reached the problem of the exit tunnel having no platform anymore and the tunnel itself embedded in the wall.
"Here," Megatron said immediately. He grabbed Moonhunter and chucked the cat up to the edge of the tunnel which he caught and scrambled up it as the cracks caught up with them. The warlord then snagged Arcee without her consent and threw her up as well. Once she landed in the tunnel, he jumped up and used his claws to scale the ice wall.
Below him, the Titanotops' body was covered with icy debris from the caving ceiling just as he pulled himself up. All three sprinted through the tunnel as the cracking grew louder. As the light of day reached their optics, they made a leap for the exit.
Moonhunter slid a few yards but kept the shield gem secured in his mouth. Arcee rolled into a side position which turned her on her front facing the entrance to the falling caverns, and Megatron slid on his feet before pressing down and halting himself. Just as he did, a few Metal Heads managed to follow through as the tunnel fell with snow and ice particles in an icy cloud as it hit the stable surface of the mountain.
All three caught their breath as Megatron sank to his knees, returning to hold his sore shoulder. "Damn!"
"I know, damn is a pretty accurate description of that," Arcee agreed, placing a servo on her chest when she moved to lie on her back.
Watching the few Metal Heads that escaped the ruins of their nest run off, they both knew they were safe for the moment.
"What the hell did you two do? Your vitals are spiking high enough for a spark attack!" Bolt asked angrily.
"Nice to know you care for our well-being," Arcee laughed.
"Yeah, yeah, I do...regrettably sometimes."
"Kor is gone, and the rest of the nest is destroyed. We, uh, collapsed the caverns. We have a few trophies to add to that collection you made me and Moonhunter has the gem."
Bolt grew a kick to his tone. "Maybe I care for you a bit more."
Megatron then said, "I lost my sword in there. It's still in Kor's backside buried. We may have another problem though. Tigressa might be on the isle somewhere."
"That's not good," the Vehicon muttered. "If she is here, then there may be more Metal Heads and she is the most unpredictable of Kronos' children. If Kor was horrible, now you'll see the true driving force behind the Horaquan army. Bring your trophies and the gem back to the ship and we'll discuss this more."
As a ground bridge appeared for them, they were quick to enter it. They were unaware, however, of a clawed pede stepping on the peak of one of the mountains overlooking them, watching as they left with a deep rumble.
AN: For those of you wondering, Kor is a real character from the Jak and Daxter franchise. He is one of my favorite video game villains though his past is never explored in-game. It is canon that he is a type of seer, both in regular and human form. He is one of the few characters in here that is not an OC.
