Fruit of the Poisoned Tree (Kalijah; Klatherine friendship)

Summary: Set in Originals S1 ep "Fruit of the Poisoned Tree." Shortly after Elijah's undaggered and returned to his siblings, as well as after they've won the compound back from Marcel, Kat goes to New Orleans, having been bitten by a wolf and in need of the cure for it. Can she get to the compound in enough time? Can Elijah convince Klaus to cure her? If so, will she stay? After she and Elijah get back together, something similar happens to her that happened in the actual ep with Agnes and Hayley. Can Kat be saved? If she's saved, what will happen?

It was a dismal night, as Katherine headed for the Mikaelson compound, assuming since it had been a few weeks or so, that the Mikaelsons were back in their own home now. She wasn't in good shape though, as she headed for the compound, so she could only hope she could get there on her own. She'd been bitten in Mystic Falls by a werewolf more than once, so she'd gotten herself to New Orleans. She needed Elijah so he could convince Klaus to cure her. However, everything was blurry, and she was already quite weak.

As she continued trying to get to the compound, she put a hand on a brick wall, trying to stay on her feet, as well as keep going. She knew she was losing though, as everything began to go black. Then, a moment later, she was swimming in darkness.

Elijah was walking after leaving the only bar in the French Quarter, but stopped when he smelled the scent of Katerina nearby. He hadn't known she was in town, so it surprised him that she was. Unless she needed something, he didn't think she'd be in town. Needing to know why she was in town, he followed her scent trail.

Half an hour later, when he saw her on her back on the ground, not far from an alley, he blurred towards her. He then knelt at her side, only to see the reason for her being in town. She'd been bitten quite a few times by a wolf.

He rested a hand on the side of her warm face.

"Katerina, can you hear me?" he called to her.

When he didn't get a response of any kind from her, he took his hand away from her face and gently picked her up, as he told her, "Stay with me, Katerina." Then he blurred home to the compound.

Forty minutes later, he was home and had just gently layed her down, when Rebekah appeared at the threshold.

"What the bloody hell?" she explained.

Elijah turned towards his sister. He knew she wouldn't be happy, since he knew how much she hated Katerina for being able to get away from Klaus.

"I expect you to behave yourself, Sister. She's been bitten. I need you to watch her while I get Klaus. Try not to kill her," he informed and asked of her.

Rebekah didn't want to be Katherine's babysitter, but when Elijah asked her to, she knew she had to.

She sighed, indicating that she clearly didn't want the job.

"Fine. Just don't take too long," she replied.

Satisfied with her answer, Elijah thanked her. Then left to go find Klaus.

After Elijah had gone, Rebekah went to the closest bathroom to get a couple cool wet washcloths so she could cool her down. No matter how long ago she'd been bitten, Katherine would still need cooled down.

The 500-year-old vampiress woke up a little to see where she was. She still felt really weak and sweaty, though. And she didn't see Elijah. She assumed he was out convincing Klaus to save her life. She hoped he'd come back soon with Klaus, because she could feel how close she was getting to joining the Other Side.

After that last thought, the hallucinations started.

Katherine had only been a vampire for five years, so she was young and still learning her abilities and how to control her urges and emotions. Katherine was in the woods, when she got ambushed by a vampiress in London, England. Since she didn't win against the vampiress, Kat knew that she was a much older vampire. Then, when Kat woke up in an abandoned cabin in the middle of the woods, feeling weak, she knew that since she had yet to make any enemies as a vampire, this vampire had to be an enemy of Elijah. And she was proven right. The vampire was really good at torturing the hell out of her in revenge against Elijah, and it hurt like hell. And since she was so young, she wasn't used to being tortured by a vampire. Especially, not by a much older vampire. She usually wasn't one to ask anyone anything, but she wanted this to stop. She wasn't sure how much longer she could take it. And she didn't know how long it would take for Elijah to figure out that she needed his help, or how long he would get here.

"Please. You don't have to do this," she said, as she sat in a corner of the cabin.

Rosita, which those that knew her called Rose, approached again and knelt in front of her.

"Oh, but I must. Nothing personal, but your boyfriend needs to be taught a lesson. Nothing against you. I just can't let him get away with hurting me the way he did," Rosita informed her. Then she gave a smile.

The young vampire had had enough of her trying to get her revenge against Elijah, so she tried to attack her when Rosita had gotten to her feet, but Rosita pinned her against a wall.

"You have to do better than that. I'm much older than you. The older the vampire, the stronger and quicker, so how about you behave yourself."

Rosita let her go and the young vampire knew she was defeated. Her only chance was either Elijah or escaping. She was weak, though. She didn't think she'd be quick enough to get out of there before she was stopped.

Later that night, Elijah came to the rescue and, before he went to go kill Rose, Rose had gone by the time Elijah had made sure that Katerina would be okay.

When Rebekah came into her favorite brother's room, she set everything onto the end table by the bed. She had to get Katherine back to bed before she could actually take care of her. She knew she was hallucinating, because the Katherine she knew wouldn't be in a corner, asking someone to pretty much leave her be. She didn't know her all that well, apart from the older vampire version of her that she knew, as well as the legend that circled around the supernatural community throughout the world, telling stories of everything she'd done. And then there was the highlights of her and Elijah's relationship she knew of. But she'd never known her to be afraid of anything, apart from Klaus. But even in the presence of Klaus, she didn't act like this.

Rebekah approached where Katherine was sitting in a corner, afraid of someone, as Katherine said, "Please. You don't have to do this."

"Katherine?" the blonde Original inquired, being careful, not knowing who Katherine was seeing right now. She was also being cautious, because since she didn't know who she was seeing, she didn't know if she would attack or not. She knew vampires were dangerous whenever they hallucinated. Especially, those that were older and had done a lot of horrible things. As if to prove Rebekah right about that, she suddenly wasn't as afraid anymore, but rather angry, and blurred toward her to attack. Luckily, Rebekah too was a vampire, and grabbed both of her wrists, before she could do any damage, and blurred her against a wall, hands still on her wrists, keeping her from hurting herself or the Original. "Katherine," Rebekah stated. "Katherine, it's me. It's just me," she added, hoping that would get the vampiress out of her hallucination and back to the present. "Calm down. It's just me."

After a few more moments, the vampiress suddenly came out of her hallucination, only to realize that she must've tried to hurt one of the few Originals she would never want to hurt, despite how Rebekah had treated her when they'd been trying to get her to hand over the cure to them.

"Rebekah?" she inquired.

When she knew she was back to the present, the Original let her go.

"Elijah asked me to watch you while he fetches Klaus," Rebekah informed her. "Let's get you back to bed."

"Good idea," Kat agreed with her. She was still feeling weak, and now felt a lot weaker than before.

Rebekah could see that she was getting weaker, so she put a hand on her arm. She then led her back to bed and helped her back into bed. Then she put a cool wet washcloth on her forehead.

As she sat on her bedside, everything went black for the dying vampiress. As it did, she used the second washcloth to damp on her face, trying to cool her down. She wished that Elijah would hurry up and convince Klaus already, because she knew she was getting close to dying than she had been when Elijah had brought her here. For Elijah's sake, she hoped she could hang on a while longer. She'd lost too much love because of Klaus. She didn't want Elijah to lose the one person that he truly and deeply loved.

Meanwhile, Elijah had found Klaus in one of the streets, which was abandoned at this hour. He'd already told Klaus about the situation with Katerina, so he was trying to convince him to save her life, even though Klaus could care less about her, he knew. After all, he'd hunted her for 500 plus years for revenge, because he was angry at her for being able to escape him. Nobody but her had ever been able to do that, and live to tell the tale. But, on the other hand, Klaus also knew what Katerina meant to Elijah. Although Elijah had left to go follow Klaus here to help him, Klaus knew that Elijah would never stop loving her. If you had told him this a hundred or so years ago, he never would've given any of this a second thought, but ever since Caroline, he knew what it was like to love someone and to sacrifice everything to keep them safe. Klaus, even in New Orleans, would do anything for Caroline, as long as it meant that she was safe.

"Fine," Klaus said grudgingly, not liking having to do it, but also wanting to stay on Elijah's good side. He knew if he let Katerina die, that would be the one thing that Elijah could never forgive Klaus for.

Rebekah was still at Katherine's side, seated on her bedside, hoping that her siblings would get here soon. She knew she was close to joining the Other Side. She wasn't sweating anymore. Instead, she was beginning to desiccate, starting with her arms. There was nothing Rebekah could do, so she'd stopped and put both washcloths on the end table.

Rebekah got up, finally hearing the front door close, and, a moment later, Elijah and Klaus entered the room.

Klaus silently went over to Katerina's side, so Rebekah got out of the way, and he bit his wrist, putting it to her lips to cure her, while Elijah sat on the other side, not saying anything for the moment. There was nothing anyone could say. And, a few moments later, when she wasn't dying anymore and her skin went back to normal, Klaus took his wrist away. Elijah then thanked him and both Klaus and Rebekah left the room, letting them have their time together.

When she was healed and they had left the room, Elijah went to the other side and sat down on the left side of her, a hand on the side of her face, waiting for her to wake up.

When Katherine woke up, she didn't feel like she was dying anymore so, since she was in Elijah's bed, she assumed that Elijah had gotten Klaus to cure her. Then she saw Elijah on her bedside.

"You saved me," she stated.

"Did you ever doubt I would?" he inquired.

She gave a smile at that and sat up in bed.

"I guess since I'm not dying anymore or dead, I should probably go before things get out of hand," she said, not knowing Klaus' mood right now.

"Well, you might as well stay now that you're here. I can make sure Klaus doesn't do anything to you," he replied.

"Thanks. I guess I'll stay then."

"Good," he replied, liking that she would like to stay, since she was there anyway. "You can make yourself at home wherever you'd like."

He got up and then left to let her be alone, knowing she liked being alone.

A few weeks later, Kat and Elijah were back together. She even stayed in New Orleans with them.

It had been a month since Klaus had cured Kat of being bitten, as well as since Kat and Elijah had gotten back together. Although Rebekah didn't much like her under the same roof, she'd gotten used to having Katherine around. And she didn't exactly despise her anymore. Klaus had gotten used to it as well. Right now, it was a beautiful day outside. Vampire Kat was walking through the Quarter, enjoying the fact that she didn't have to run from anything. At least, not for a while.

Suddenly, she saw a witch and felt the magic being used on her, before everything went black.

After trying to get a hold of her and not being able to, Elijah went out to go find his Katerina, hoping nothing had happened to her. If anyone did anything to Katerina, no matter what it was, he would seek his wrath upon them. They would wish that they'd never harmed her in any way.

When he got near an alley, finding her phone, he realized that she'd been taken. Since none of her enemies had come to town, he knew she'd been taken by a witch. If that was true, that witch was going to know what happens when you harmed Katerina. Immediately, after figuring that out, he headed back to the compound to inform his siblings. Although he was angry and didn't show it, he was smart enough after so many centuries not to go after a witch without a plan or any information. However, he was going to slaughter whoever harmed Katerina. No one harmed Katerina in any way, shape, or form and lived to tell the tale. Klaus was an exception, since he was family. Plus, his brother had never truly harmed her. Unlike her other enemies. He knew it wasn't Sophie, because she and Katerina were friends. They had been for a long time. Sophie would never in any amount of years harm Katerina. It had to be another witch.

After he got to the compound and informed them, they went their separate ways in figuring out who had Katherine, as well as figuring out a plan to get her back. Klaus had learned to get along with her, while Rebekah didn't exactly despise her anymore after she'd been under their roof for a while. And Elijah would never wish anything to happen to her, no matter what. He'd rather kill himself with a White Oak stake than to live in a world without her. Though he'd once loved a witch and, deep down, still loved the deceased witch, Celeste, Katerina was his present love. She had been for 500 sum years. Without her, he didn't know what pieces of him would be left. They were the best parts of each other. They'd die for one another if either of them had to. And he hadn't looked out for her for 500 sum years, only to lose her now. He was going to get her back, no matter the cost. Then he was going to teach that witch a lesson that she would never forget, even in death. No one messed with her and got away with it.

When she woke up, she was chained to the ceiling of a cave-like mausoleum, Agnes there by a table, obviously having been waiting for her to wake up. She felt weak, but didn't know why. She hadn't been bitten by anymore werewolves.

Agnes approached, once she knew she was awake.

"What did you do to me?" Kat wanted to know.

"I took the liberty of one of the rare plants that can harm even a vampire without a cure. Those vampires have caused enough chaos since they've come back here. It's time they learned their lesson. And they'll have learned their lesson once the poisonous thornbush has done what it's meant to. Even Marcel will learn his lesson," Agnes answered her. She knew that killing Katherine meant hurting all of the Originals, as well as Marcel. She saw it as teaching them a lesson.

Kat tried to pull the chains loose, but to no avail. She knew it had to either be the thornbush poison that made her weak, or there was a spell keeping the chains from being broken. She knew Agnes wasn't a full-on stupid witch, though she knew she was stupid for trying to teach them a lesson. She knew when Elijah found her, Agnes was going to wish that she'd never tried to hurt or kill her. She herself wasn't an idiot though, so she wasn't going to tell Agnes that, because she wasn't going to give Agnes the satisfaction of winning.

A few hours later, they found out where Agnes had her at, so while Klaus and Rebekah slaughtered Agnes' followers outside, Elijah came inside where they were. Then he was instantly in front of the witch with a hand around her throat.

"Let this be a lesson. No one hurts Katerina and lives." Then he killed her and added, "No one."

A moment later, he was in front of her.

"Katerina," he said, getting the chains off her. He then put a hand on her arm to try and help her stay on her feet, as he questioned her, "What happened?"

"She used the poisoned thornbush to try and teach all of you a lesson," she answered him.

He caught her, as she collapsed. He then gently picked her up and blurred home.

Once in his room at the compound, he gently layed her down. Then, when Rebekah got home, he informed her what his Katerina had told him. He then asked Rebekah to take care of her while he fetched the cure for the poisoned thornbush, in which she agreed to do.

Katherine woke up an hour later, weaker than before, to blurrily see Rebekah seated on her bedside, damping a washcloth on her face, trying to cool her down. It wasn't much help, though. And though she was dying from the thornbush poisoning, she could hear Sophie tell Klaus that to help her while Elijah got the cure, they had to get her in the water. It was growing faint since she was dying, but she heard him agree.

A moment later, Rebekah had left her side. Then she closed her eyes, but heard him.

"Katerina," he stated. Then, as she felt him gently pick her up in his arms, she weakly wrapped hers around his neck, laying her head on his shoulder. "Stay with me, Katerina," she heard him say. He knew how close she was to dying. He knew Elijah had to get back with the cure soon. Otherwise, Elijah was going to lose her.

A moment later, she felt wind, letting her know that he was blurring her outside to where Sophie and the pool were. She could feel that she was losing the battle. She assumed Klaus knew it too, considering what he'd said before blurring outside.

Klaus, taking over Elijah's responsibility of taking care of Katerina, waded into the pool, her still in his arms. He wasn't just taking over for Elijah, though. After some time had passed, he cared about her well-being. Though the water would cool her down, he knew that wouldn't stop her from dying. Even he couldn't save her. Not from this. And as the water cooled her down at the minutes passed, he knew they were losing her. He could hear her slow, shallow breathing. He could also feel that she was losing the fight.

Half an hour later, Elijah finally returned with the cure for the thornbush poisoning. Since it needed prepared for her to drink, Elijah gave it to Sophie to prepare as quickly as she could, while Klaus, knowing Elijah was back, got out of the pool with her. Then Elijah took over with Katerina. She was still alive, but was even worse off.

"Hold on, Katerina," Elijah said, pleading.

Shortly after, Sophie finished, and Rebekah gave the cup of the cure to her eldest brother. He then gently positioned her head back, her in his arms, making the cure go down her throat to save her life. Then, when it was finished, he set the cup down on the ground and got to his feet with her, before blurring to his room. Then, once there, he gently layed her down on his bed and sat on her bedside, waiting for her to wake up, hoping for her to live.

She didn't know how long she'd been out, but when she came to, she felt like herself again. She also saw Elijah seated on her bedside. She could feel a hand on the side of her face, too.

"Katerina," he greeted.

She gave a smile.

"You did it. You managed to save me, yet again."

"I did. I thought I lost you. I nearly did," he replied.

She sat up in bed at that and rested a hand on the side of his face. As she sat up in bed, he took his hand away from her face.

"You didn't lose me. I'm still here," she replied. Somehow, no one knew how, but she always managed to survive, even if she had to almost die first.

After a moment of looking at one another in silence, they began to makeout.
