Red Door (4th Revised Version; Kalijah and Klayley

Summary: Set in "Red Door." What if Esther captured Hayley, instead of Elijah? What if haylijah didn't exist in Originals? What if Kat came back to life? Will kalijah become once more?

It was a beautiful day in New Orleans. Klaus had been on the hunt all day, looking for Mikael. He was currently in the Bayou, taking down the last of the humans Mikael had compelled. Because he'd been busy with Mikael, he'd failed to realize that Hayley had been captured by Esther.

Klaus killed the last human, not wasting time. Then a very familiar scent came to him.

He gave a growl, not wanting to deal with her if she was going to cause trouble. He had enough to deal with without an apparent resurrected doppelgänger in the fold. He didn't wish Elijah to find out that he and Rebekah hadn't told him about her dying human, so he decided to take a few minutes to make sure, for Elijah's sake, that she'd be okay.

After escaping Kai's prison world, injured, she saw that she was in the New Orleans bayou. Everything was blurry from blood loss, though. She knew she needed help, but she was too injured to move. She was too weak and tired to do much but to wait for either a rescue, or to die.

When the hybrid came upon her, he saw an ascendant, telling him how she was alive. He also saw that her condition wasn't good. He could hear her slow heart and shallow breathing.

He blurred towards and knelt by her.

"Katerina, can you hear me?"

After a few minutes of no answer, he debated on it, knowing that last time, she couldn't digest blood. Then, he finally decided to take the chance. He slid an arm under her, crook of arm supporting her head, and sat her against him, her head against his shoulder. He then bit his wrist and positioned her head gently back, before putting it to her lips, making his blood go down her throat.

"Come on, Katerina, luv," he called to her. "Drink. Open your eyes, sweetheart."

Although, he knew he'd done damage to her in the past centuries and years, he never would've injured her. Especially, to near death like this. He didn't care to see her this way.

"Open your eyes, Katerina," he called to her once more. Then, finally, he saw her beginning to drink on her own, about twenty minutes later. "That a girl," he commented.

"Klaus?" she weakly questioned, when he took his wrist away, when her wounds had healed.

He put a hand on her arm, getting her up, as he got to his.

"You're welcome. Now, if you can make it to the compound, you're welcome to stay there. I have more pressing matters. I need to go find and kill my father again."

"I would think Elijah would be coming with you for that, if he's back. Why isn't he?"

"He's helping to devise a plan against our mother, who has also resurrected herself," he informed her.

"I'm weak, but maybe I can help you. I may not be able to exactly fight, but I'd be a pretty good distraction for your father," she suggested.

"Thank you for the suggestion, Katerina, but my father has lost his mind considerably more than the last time he was alive, so I think I'll pass," he replied.

"Is this because of Elijah? I know he won't like it, but if you're fighting him alone, you need some kind of backup," she guessed, and then insisted. Despite the last time Mikael had been alive, she didn't wish for Klaus to possibly end up being killed by Mikael. She didn't hate him anymore, and she hoped it was the same for him.

"Why must you be stubborn, even as weak as you are?" Then he told her, "If you're coming with me, you're going to stay close. If I were to allow you to be put in harm's way, you know how Elijah would feel about that. And right now, I'm the only person that he's not on the outs with."

"Fine. I'll do whatever you tell me to do. But only for today," she agreed. After all, she knew Elijah and Klaus so well, she knew usually what they were thinking or feeling.

"Good. Follow me."

They were still searching for Mikael, when it was getting close to evening, and were now heading towards where Klaus knew there was a cabin. Davina's family's cabin. They stopped though, when Klaus got a call from Elijah, asking if he knew where Hayley was.

"I've been preoccupied with looking for Mikael, among other things. Locating Hayley didn't make my to-do list today. If you're so worried, maybe you should find her."

"What do you mean by other things? What else has been preoccupying you, along with our father?" Elijah wanted to know.

"If you must know, I found Katerina human and injured, so I helped her. She offered to assist me with finding Mikael, but if you'd rather take her with you, then be my guest. We're almost to Davina's family's cabin. If we're lucky enough, he'll be around these parts."

"Is Katerina okay?" Elijah had to ask.

"She's good as new if you must know. I'll take her home with me once we're done here, and then I'll go find Hayley. But she can take care of herself, so I doubt that she needs our assistance anytime soon. I should see you soon," he replied, before they both hung up.

"Hayley's still around?" Kat inquired of him.

"Yes. No one in this city is supposed to know unless trusted to keep a secret, but we had a one-night stand, which resulted in an accidental baby girl. Apart from a trusted few, this city thinks that she was killed in the battle we had against the werewolves that tried to take over my city. I trust that you, of all people, can keep a secret."

"You can trust me," she promised him. "And I will fight for her alongside you all, no matter what, as if she was my own."

They made it to the front of Davina's cabin, and were about to approach, when Klaus heard a noise, before both of them heard the familiar looming voice of the angry vampire.

"Hello…boy."

They both turned to look at him.

"Katherine," Mikael said to her. "You seem rather impatient. Are you that eager to meet your end?" he inquired of Klaus.

Klaus stepped towards him a few steps.

"Only to stand above your burning corpse again. Only this time, I intend to enjoy it more."

Mikael walked a few steps towards him.

"I came all the way back from hell for this moment."

"Then I'd hate to keep you waiting," Klaus replied, before lunging at him, but Mikael quickly began to get the upper hand, white oak stake in hand.

Kat stepped back, away from the battle. As a vampire, she could've helped in every way, but as a human, she barely had anything she could do to go up against Mikael. It wasn't her against a normal vampire. He never had been normal. All she could do was watch and look for anything she could use as a weapon against him.

Klaus kicked Mikael down, before Mikael could stab him with the stake, and got to his feet, but Mikael quickly got back up, and the battle continued. Eventually though, Mikael pinned him to the ground, and Klaus tried to stop Mikael from stabbing it into him, and he got it close to his heart.

Kat snuck up behind Mikael, a sturdy, long branch in hand, and jabbed it into Mikael's back as hard as she could, and then knelt by Klaus, while Mikael was distracted, and pulled the stake out of him.

"You okay?"

He began to get up, and she helped him, and then handed the stake to Klaus, as Mikael pulled the branch out.

"Since when do you stand with that abomination? Last time, we were on the same side."

"Since I forgave him on my human deathbed when I was human from the cure a couple years ago. Now, I'm going to help destroy you once and for all. Even if I don't have my vampire strength or abilities anymore."

"Then you're an enemy, just like all the rest of them," Mikael replied to her.

"Then so be it. I'll always have the rest of your children for protection against even you."

When the fight ended, Klaus had successfully killed Mikael again, and he escorted Katerina to the compound, where Elijah was.

Once at the compound, Klaus informed Elijah that Mikael was done for, and told them both that he was going to go find Hayley.

"What are you doing here, Katerina? It's not the safest time for you right now," Elijah wanted to know, as they stood in the parlor together.

She sat on the couch, drinking a shot glass of Bourbon.

"I was in a prison world for a while. When I escaped tonight, injured from Kai, Klaus must've smelled me, and he healed me. Saved my life for once. And it's a good thing I asked to go with him. I saved him from that deadly stake. I wasn't planning on ending up here when I escaped. I just needed to get out of there. Without that psychotic Gemini witch."

"You were a vampire when I saw you last. Did you take the cure?" he needed to know.

She finished her drink. Then she told him, "I don't think Klaus or Rebekah want you to know this for obvious reasons, but both of them knew about what happened to me. I think Caroline convinced Klaus not to gloat over me, and Rebekah probably wanted to see Matt more than myself. When you left, I was angry as ever. At you for not choosing me once again, and Elena for being partly involved for saying something to make you see who I really was as a vampire. Because of that anger, I did the idiot thing, and I picked a fight with her. I just didn't know that the cure was in her pocket. If I had known, I would've taken it from her. I wanted it, as you know, for my freedom. Elena shoved the cure down my throat because I was so enraged, that I tried to kill her. And because of my age as a vampire, time caught up with me. I died of old age rapidly. I tried to find a solution, but the vampire expert told me it couldn't be stopped. The only good thing that came out of it was, at least for a short time, being reunited with my daughter. Well, until Tyler bit her, and then we sort of died together," she informed him. "You know that when I came to England where I met you two that I was banished. My father banished me, because of Nadia. I disobeyed him. I didn't want to marry some rich guy, when I was in love with the stable hand of ours. He allowed me to give birth, but then he sent her away. When I came back in 1498, I was looking for her. I just couldn't find her. I guess I just had to wait for her to find me, instead," she told him. Then she asked of him, "Don't be angry at Klaus and Rebekah. I understand why they wouldn't have told you. They needed you here to help them."

"You should've called, Katerina. I could've found a way to save you. I thought you'd be alright. I guess I was wrong about that. I'm sorry," he replied, and apologized.

"You don't have anything to apologize for. I understand that I broke our rule not to lie to each other, no matter what. I broke your trust. I broke everything. It should be me apologizing, so I'm sorry. But you can make it up to me now. I'm human again, which means once my enemies find out…Let's just say protection would be the best thing for me until further notice."

"I'll always protect you, Katerina," he reminded her.

"Thank you," she replied. "So, since I'm going to be here for a while, you might as well fill me in on everything I've missed."

Meanwhile, Klaus had found Hayley, captured by none other than their mother. And so, he slaughtered pretty much all of her followers, before entering, which was when he then gave their mother the worst fate imaginable to her. He killed her with his blood in her system, putting her in transition, giving her a choice to become a vampire, the creatures she hated the most, or to slowly die. He then went over to where Hayley was chained by her wrists, and he tore the doll off, before breaking the chains off her. Then he gently picked her up, heading home with her.

Once in his room, he gently layed her down on his bed, before sitting on her bedside and feeding his blood to her to heal the wolf. As he did so, he heard Katerina.

"She's going to be okay, right? We didn't see eye to eye, despite the fact that I'm the one that gave her directions on where to find her real family, but I wouldn't wish her dead."

"I think she's going to be okay. She's resilient like you. I think you should concentrate more on yourself and maybe patching things up," he replied, and then suggested to her.

Later, when she woke up, it relieved him, knowing that she'd be okay, just as he'd told Katerina earlier. And as she did, he was still seated on her bedside, a hand on the side of her face.

"You're safe now, Little Wolf," he assured her. "You're home, where you belong."

He gave a smile.

Meanwhile, Kat and Elijah had patched things up, and they'd just gone to third base with one another, so all was well with them, once more.
