Shattered (Kalijah)
Summary: Set in Originals S5. When Kat escapes the prison world Ric's girls made when they were little girls, Kat is informed by Marcel what happened to Elijah and Klaus. When she brings Elijah back, will they get back together? Based on the song "Shattered" by Trading Yesterday.
Yesterday I died, tomorrow's bleeding
Fall into your sunlight
The future's open wide, beyond believing
To know why, hope dies
Losing what was found, a world so hollow
Suspended in compromise
The silence of this sound, is soon to follow
Somehow, sundown
And finding answers
Is forgetting all of the questions we called home
Passing the graves of the unknown
As reason clouds my eyes, with splendor fading
Illusions of the sunlight
And a reflection of a lie, keep me waiting
It was a dismal night, as a human Katherine walked through the Quarter, her destination being the compound. She'd just escaped a prison world, so she'd had to deal with a couple teenage supernaturals and Kai. What little injuries she had were cloaked, though. After all, she'd learned how to make her Traveler magic active, which had saved her life.
Once inside the compound, she could see that things had changed. The compound wasn't very kept, she couldn't sense a lot of vampires, and she didn't hear any of the Mikaelsons yelling at each other. Then, a moment after she noticed all of that, she saw from the corner of her eye, someone jump from the balcony, landing on the ground. Then, when she turned to face the vampire, she was relieved to see that it was only Marcel.
"Katherine. Long time no see," he greeted with a smile.
"What happened?" she asked. "I get the cure for vampirism shoved down my throat, die of old age, end up in a prison world, and come back to find New Orleans different."
"You probably want the short version. Klaus gave up the Quarter, despite how much he was happy to have won it from me. He loved Hope more though, and gave it back to me. Then The Hollow surfaced and wanted Hope. To save Hope and everyone else from it, he put it all inside himself. Then he killed himself."
The human was shocked, but not too much, knowing that if Nadia could change her, then Hope could do the same for Klaus. She had to ask something else though, despite her fear of the answer. After all, sometimes not knowing was worst than not knowing.
"Where's Elijah?" she asked.
"Hayley sacrificed herself to save Hope. Elijah loved her. It was tearing him apart. He thought it was his fault. He couldn't live with that guilt, nor without Klaus. I'm sorry, Katherine. He died with Klaus to be reunited with her," he informed her.
She was silent, as she contained herself, forcing herself not to cry in front of Marcel. Then she finally spoke.
"How long ago?"
"A month ago," he replied. He knew what she was going to attempt, but he wasn't going to stop her. He'd do the same for Davina time and time again. And despite him hating the Mikaelsons, he wouldn't stop her from being reunited with her love. He'd be a hypocrite if he did.
"Where are they?" she inquired.
"I've been keeping them in the tunnels."
After he told her that, she headed for the tunnels, determined to bring at least Elijah back.
With love gone, for so long
And this day's ending
Is the proof of time killing, all the faith I know
Knowing that faith, is all I hold
And I've lost who I am, and I can't understand
Why my heart is so broken, rejecting your love
Without, love gone wrong, lifeless words carry on
But I know, all I know, is that the end's beginning
Who I am from the start, take me home to my heart
Let me go and I will run, I will not be silent
All this time, hope remains, and this war's not over
There's a light, there's the sun, taking all shattered ones
To the place we belong, and his love will conquer all

About an hour later, she'd ended the spell to bring them back, her knelt between them on the ground on their backs. Disappointedly, she couldn't bring back Klaus, so after putting him back in his coffin, she knelt by Elijah. Then she used a twig to cut her wrist, before putting it to his lips, making it go down his throat. Since it was just her and Elijah, she uncloaked her prison world wounds.
Twenty minutes later, Elijah stopped drinking and let go. Then, when he looked to see what was going on, he saw a human Katerina, thankfully alive. He'd known before death about her death, which had been devastating. He could only imagine her own feelings when she'd found out about him dying.
He sat up.
"Katerina."
She gave a smile.
"Elijah."
He got to his feet, before helping her to hers. Then he saw and smelled her wounds.
"What has happened? Can you digest vampire blood?"
"I escaped a prison world, only to find out about what happened. This is Kai's doing. I couldn't digest it last time I was human, so I probably shouldn't try it."
Suddenly, a moment later, everything went black, but Elijah caught her. He then gently picked her up, before blurring to the white house, which Hope had stayed with a wolf at when Hayley had gone to cure them all.
All this time spent in vain, wasted years, wasted gain
All is lost, hope remains, and this war's not over
There's a light, there's the sun, taking all shattered ones
To the place we belong, and his love will conquer all
Yesterday I died, tomorrow's bleeding
Fall into your sunlight
Once inside the house, he gently layed her down on the kitchen table. He then used his jacket as a pillow for her head.
"Freya!" he yelled, knowing she was home. Then he rested a hand on her forehead. "If you can hear me, stay with me, Katerina. Please."
Freya came down the stairs, hearing Elijah say her name. At first, she was shocked that he was alive, but when he saw Katherine, it made sense to her. She knew that she was descended from Travelers, giving her magic as a human. She also knew that she and Elijah would always love each other, despite them loving others at the same time. They had a special connection.
A moment after getting over the shock of him being alive, she rushed over to the scene.
"What happened?" she needed to know.
"She escaped a prison world. Then she brought me back and fed me, in order for me to regain strength."
As he told her what happened, she looked at Katherine, assessing what her wounds were. She could see that her lower stomach and thigh artery were bleeding. She could also see that she clearly hadn't been careful as to how deep she'd cut her wrist, because the wound looked deep. She also clearly lost a lot of blood, since she was pale from blood loss.
She looked at Elijah.
"I'll do my best," she assured him, but they both knew that she couldn't guarantee that she'd live. Magic could only go so far.
"Do what you can," he told her.
She began to magically heal her wounds, but wished that Rebekah was close. If anything went wrong on the medical side, only their sister would know what to do. She was happy in Paris though, close to Kol and Davina. If they mentioned Katherine, it would make her unhappy. And she was a normal human now. She only had so much time left. Freya didn't want to have to ask Damon, either.
Meanwhile, Kat was in a peaceful place. It looked like woods. She assumed her being here meant she was between life and death, since she could feel that she was sill alive.
"Katerina," she heard from behind her, which made her turn around to see Klaus. "As much as I enjoy seeing another familiar face, what are you doing here?"
"I'm just visiting until Elijah can save me. Maybe if I'm lucky, he'll find Freya. If he hasn't already."
"What happened to you, Katerina?" he wanted to know.
"I escaped a prison world. I guess between Kai, bringing Elijah back and feeding him, it took its toll. I guess even I have limits. I might as well make the best of it, though," she answered him.
"I guess you should then," he agreed. He wasn't going to apologize, but he was sorry for what Kai had done, as well as what he'd done to her. He was sure that she knew it, though.
"I've forgiven you, by the way," she informed him. "I tried to bring you back too, but I guess you're at peace here."
"I am. Thank you, Katerina."
"You're welcome."
They gave a smile at one another, before she walked away. She wanted to know who else was here.
Freya finished magically healing her wounds, but knew that there was one more thing needed. Something that if she woke up, she could instruct Freya on what to do. Her blood loss needed restored, but she and Elijah didn't know how to do it.
Elijah rested a hand on the side of her face.
"Katerina, can you hear me? I need you to wake up for me," he called to her.
"I don't think that's going to work. I'm not doubting your connection, but she's lost a lot of blood. It needs restored for her to live. There may be a way though, since we don't know how. She knows someone that could help us. He found peace, but I can go there to ask for his help."
Elijah was unsure as to who she was talking about. Then, after a moment, he remembered that the only person with this knowledge that she knew, had to be the only vampire that had hated someone that had become a doctor. He never liked him much, but he'd do anything to save Katerina.
"Do it," he urged her.
It didn't take long for Freya to astral project herself to the peaceful woods. Then, after doing that, it didn't take her long to find him.
She approached him outside of the woods, where he was alone.
"Damon?" she inquired.
He turned around to see a stranger.
"Yes. How may I help you?"
"My name's Freya Mikaelson, and I need just a little bit of your help. I know you grew to hate her, but she's human. I healed her, but Elijah and I don't know how to restore her blood loss. Please. If not for her, then do it for Elijah."
Damon knew from her explanation that Katherine would die without his help or knowledge, so, after some debating, he decided to help.
"Fine. I'll help you," he told her.
After Freya came back into her real body, she got to work in getting what was needed. Then she restored the blood she'd lost.
When Katherine woke up, she was in Elijah's bed, him seated on her bedside. That's when she knew that he'd saved her. She knew it had been with Freya's help, considering she was healed.
"How do you feel?" he inquired.
She sat up in bed.
"A lot better. Thanks," she replied with a smile.
"I almost lost you," he stated.
"Well, you didn't. And I'm not going anywhere."
"Good."
After a few minutes of looking at each other, they began to kiss. So, after so long of being apart, they finally got back together.
