"Mama Aori?" Rei gasped after witnessing the very inkling she was raised by, looking different as well as sitting on a cross.
"Another one calling me Aori. Hotaru and her nuisances and now this time, the brat with her boy toy." Callie groans as her octoling language is translated by both inklings.
"Aori? Rei, is that really her name?" Neku asks out of curiosity.
"Her real name. We're used to calling her Callie since she was an idol." Rei answered.
As Neku gets the naming reason, he couldn't tell why Callie looks like a hooker in his eyes.
To Rei, she knows why Callie isn't acting like herself.
"Hypnoshades." Rei grunts.
"Is that why she's different?" Neku asks.
"Yeah."
Rei then takes a few steps forward as she's getting closer to Callie and holds out the old model of a roller that used to be Callie's, a 'Hero Roller ZER0.'
"Mama-... No, Callie, can you take off those glasses." Rei requested.
Callie halts as she was surprised about Rei's respectful tone as well as her cool headed behaviour.
"If I must, then I'll take them off."
Callie finally removes the shades as her eyes are revealed to be magenta.
Rei is getting the impression that Callie is no longer herself anymore, meaning she'll never have her time with Callie and Marie as her legal parents. On the plus side, this'll prevent the sanitisation from going into her head.
"So, what's going on?" Neku asked.
"Her eyes are far from normal. Mama Aori is being brainwashed. Must've been some sort of mental reprogramming." Said Rei.
"Huh!? Callie!? What's happening to you!?"
"I don't know what this squid is on about, but I appreciate your imagination. Tell me your name." Callie asks.
"It's Rei. Atarime Rei, your daughter." Rei answers, causing Callie to gasp.
Something is flashing in Callie's mind as not only Marie, but Rei is hitting her head as her memories are blurry before putting her glasses back on.
"Ngh! What is this? R- Rei, huh? So you're the survivor everyone's been talking about. The infamous one that took DJ down."
"You did what!?" Neku exclaimed.
"Long story. I got a song for her." Rei clears her throat and sings a choir which is familiar.
This caused Callie to have her memories flashing as glitches were messing with her head, leading her to scream.
Naku gasps. "It's working!? That's…"
"Calamari Inkantation. A song which puts me to sleep and clears off the pain I had 2 years ago." Rei answers while continuing to sing.
"Nghooo… St- Stop it… R- Rei… Please… Save… Me…" Callie cried out, stopping Rei from singing as she's able to reach callie.
"Mama Aori!?"
"Ooough… ENOUGH!" Callie yelled, snapping off the songs from her head. "That song you played is dreadful! It's… It's a plague!"
"No. The real plague is the sanitised. If you don't listen, then you'll be the next victim to sanitisation." Rei warned while raising her Hero Roller 0.
"Tch! I've no need for orders coming from an inking brat! I'll show you no mercy!" Callie roared.
"Mama…"
BANG! A noise is coming from the ceiling, causing Rei and Neku to gasp as they see yellow ink coming down.
"What the?" Callie raises her head until she witnesses something above.
A large yellow tentacle.
"Mama!" Rei yells while dashing forward.
"Rei! Don't! Rei!" Neku yelled as he missed.
As hasty as she could, Rei leaps on a cross, pushes Callie down and crashes on the ground by a stained glass wall and then SMASH! The ceiling is breaking apart as well as a tentacle lands on a cross.
"What the shell is this!?" Callie exclaims.
"You!" Rei growls out of rage, recognising that tentacle and an inkling along with it.
"What? You're not a beanie boy and his octoling girlfriend? And here I am meeting the same hunter down." Calling above the rooftop is Frye, the very inkling that Rei has been searching for.
"So it was you that killed my brother! Why!? Just for some treasure!?" Neku shouted.
"Oh come now, baseball cap boy, you think I'd spare anyone that tries to get in our way. I made a deal with Octavio and when the deal was done, I was about to give him his final reward." Frye chuckles.
"You mean retribution! You nearly killed him!" Rei snaps while pointing her Hero Shot 0 at Frye.
"So DJ was tricked? I can't wait to splat you into pieces!" Callie's rage fumes while holding up her Octo Roller that is replicated as Hero Roller 0.
Now it's 3 on 1 as Rei, Neku and Callie are pointing straight towards Frye.
Frye clicks her fingers which causes a loud BANG from the rooftop that almost splats Rei some time ago.
"So we meet again, Octostomp Redux. Nice coat by the way." Rei pulls a smirk while preparing for a rematch like 2 years ago. "You're suffering, I can tell."
"Wait! He's suffering!?" Neku gasped after hearing what Rei said.
"Remember the colour, he's now sanitised. Since he regained his memory."
"He'll lose control of his mind and emotions." Callie gasps as her crew's octoweapon is now an uncontrollable monster that's roaring for help.
"HAHAHAHA! That's just the beginning! Now, Octostomp, become mine and the eels' vehicle!" Frye pulls out her pungi and blows it, preparing to release the very same tentacles that killed Daigo 2 years ago.
After it blows…
Silence…
"Uh… Hello?" Frye blows it again.
Still nothing.
The only thing coming out is an eel that is screeching in pain.
"Idiot. That thing is sanitised. It's clear that someone is using them as its own and prevents you from controlling him." Said Rei.
"WHAT!? You have got to be squidding me!?" Frye then realised that the sanitised are no joke and are aiming at anyone indiscriminately.
Then it smashes the rooftop as it causes Frye to crash on one of the chairs.
"The site of hyenas' dreams. Hajikē Rubabūru Station. Let him go!" Rei prays as she can see why he's crying. "Dai, Mama… Callie, Frye, we're doing this together."
"Since when am I ever your mother?" Callie asks bitterly.
"Long story."
"Oh come on, I don't want to team up with a bunch of killers?" Frye ironically moaned.
"It's now or never. I don't want to do this either, but we have to." Said Neku.
Finally, 4 inklings are preparing themselves with their weapons, such as Rei with her Hero Shot 0, Neku with his Hero Shot, Callie with her Octo Roller and Frye with her Tri-Stringer.
Before Frye makes a run for it, Rei turns on a speaker along with Neku.
"Sora, we're now facing the sanitised Octostomp. Although he wears a coat that blocks his tentacle." Rei calls.
[Can confirm, he's wearing an inkproof coat. There's a device on his face, maybe that's the reason he's protected.] Sora called back.
"So in other words, we destroy this little device." Neku is pumping himself up, ready to splat this octoweapon.
"That's the idea." Rei pulls a grin while readying herself and calls for her group. "Everyone! This device on his face is the weak spot, then get to his back and splat the tentacle from his back!"
"Don't order me around, little brat." Callie mutters.
"So we're not running?" Frye asked.
"No. We're destroying this thing!" Callie growled.
"Also, what is this inkling girl saying earlier!?" Frye asked.
"It's octoling language. Of course you wouldn't understand." Neku answered.
Finally, Octostomp Redux charges forward, leading 4 inklings to dodge.
3 magenta inklings and Frye was left in yellow.
"What are you doing!? Change the damn colour!" Neku yelled.
"Do I have to!?" Frye moaned.
"If you want to, then we'll fight each other!" Rei calls while firing her Hero Shot 0 at the device on Octostomp Redux.
Frye pouts as she changes her colour to magenta out of reluctance, knowing that she has to team up if she wants to survive.
Then Rei zooms in a clockwise direction as Neku gasps.
"Rei!"
"Don't worry about me! Hey! Over here! I'm the one you want!" Rei shouted as she's getting a reunion and a horrific flashback about Daigo.
This led Octostomp Redux to roar and jump as high as he could.
Then Callie swings her Octo Roller like a bat and smashes the device by pushing him to the corner near Neku and Frye.
"Ma- Callie?" Rei gasps, only to see Callie hold her head in pain.
"N- No more… Please… DJ… I don't want to do… This!" Callie is crying out as her vision is seeing her other self telling her to stop resisting. "Aori… You're just dreaming, the Octostomp is the real deal… What the brat said… Is not… Real…"
Callie then screams which stops Neku and Frye.
"Don't worry about us! Get to the tentacle! Hurry!" Rei orders while holding Callie.
"On it!" Neku nods, worried about Rei and Callie while he's painting Octostomp Redux's side.
Same goes for Frye as she's seeing what they're after.
Both inklings are morphing into squids, leading Neku and Frye to fire their weapons at the tentacle and then SPLAT!
Octostomp Redux roars as he jumps, nearly crushing Neku and Frye by the ceiling as both inklings super jump off.
"Did you get him!?" Rei asked.
"Yeah. But he's never going to stop." Neku answers, knowing that Rei is on point about being a sanitised.
"But we are going to finish this!" Rei steps forward next to Neku and blows her cloak up by holding out her inkstained Hero Blaster 0, the other secondary weapon.
"That's…" Neku has witnessed what Rei is carrying right next to him.
"Sayaka. I guess you saw Saki as well."
"Naming the hero weapons after your friends, huh. Even this slosher is my brother."
"Yeah. They're always by my side."
"Ugh! Quit with the sappy story and destroy this thing already!" Frye cringed at Rei's remembrance of those Frye herself killed.
"And whose fault is it that my friends died?" Rei pierces a glare at Frye, knowing she's still not finished with her.
"Here he comes." Callie grunts while picking herself up and grunts.
Afterwards, Rei and Neku morph themselves into squids and swim towards a roaring Octostomp Redux as they're firing the sides that have devices on.
[Rei, Neku, be careful! Octocommander above and it's starting with Rei!] Sora called.
"Tch!" Clicking her tongue, Rei hops backwards after almost being mowed down by a horde of sanitised ink that's rapidly firing towards her.
"Rei! Hold on!" Neku shouted while firing above.
Behind was Frye who was targeting a device on Octostomp Redux's face.
"I can't believe this. This is wrong. I don't want to help these guys, but I guess there's no other choice." Frye sighs and then releases the bow by firing 3 ink arrows, leading them to land on Octostomp Redux's face and then SPLAT!
The coat was removed as it caused Octostomp Redux to roar out of rage.
"Ngh! D- DROP THE WASABI BEAT!" Callie yells while super jumping on Octostomp Redux's head as well as splatting a sanitised Octocommander and then glances down at him in anger.
Then Octostomp Redux collapses as a tentacle releases out of his back.
Rei and Callie are the ones closest as they're climbing onto Octostomp Redux's back and then point their weapons at a tentacle.
Then SPLAT goes to the blue and green tentacle as both inklings land back to their positions.
"Is it over?" Frye asks.
"I don't think so." Neku confirms as Octostomp Redux picks himself up once again.
As Octostomp Redux roars again while creating 2 more heads, in a few seconds a fist appears and smashes the left and the other fist to the right and an octopus missile dives onto Octostomp Redux's face, causing Octostomp Redux himself to get pushed as well as crashing.
A mechanical hand then grabs a tentacle with its fist and then rips it out by squirting out from green to magenta ink.
"Thank… You…"
BOOM! Magenta ink is spreading everywhere all over the church, meaning Octostomp is meeting his end again.
Now that was oddly satisfying, yet unnerving at the same time.
Above the group is a flying machine that is floating down as both fists are back to the machine.
"DJ! Where have you been!?" Callie shouts.
"I'm sorry! I was trying to find the pieces! So what's going on down there!?" DJ Octavio called after sarcastically apologising.
"Nothing unusual." Rei answers and fires Frye immediately, meaning she splatted 2 Deep Cut members as they're still alive.
"Why do I always get the short end of the stick!?" Frye's ghost cries as she's heading towards a different location.
"You deserve it." Rei spat out of malice.
Afterwards, Rei and Neku approach Callie and DJ Octavio as they're standing in a building full of magenta ink.
"DJ. Explain." Callie calls out T DJ Octavio in octoling language, knowing something is behind her false memories.
"What? Wh- Why?" DJ Octavio grunts.
"You know why. Is it true that Atarime Rei is my daughter?"
"Ugh. Yes. You've been raising her with… Marie and you left them by joining us." DJ Octavio answered in octarian language.
"Is that true?" Neku asked.
"Of course it's true! Are you inklings dumb!?" DJ Octavio snapped in inkling language.
"No! I'm sorry!"
"Hey. Do you have any more soundtracks I can listen to?" Rei asks with a positive attitude.
"Heh. I'm glad ya asked, Rei, it'll be there next month." DJ Octavio chuckles.
This had both Neku and Callie confused about why Rei and DJ Octavio are buddy-buddy with each other.
"Oh, right! Callie is actually your adoptive mother and Marie is missin' for a while. Callie's just woken up from our octo prison months ago." DJ Octavio loudly said.
This had Rei and Neku surprised that DJ Octavio actually helps them out.
"If that's true, then I'm sorry. I shouldn't have attacked you earlier." Callie apologises.
"Mama…" Rei can feel joy. "Although, do you want to hear me sing Calamari Inkantation?"
"Don't." Callie makes a sharp tone while sitting on DJ Octavio's machine.
"Aww… But I love this song." DJ Octavio whines.
"Rei. When we meet again, bring Hotaru to me… She has something I need." Callie calls from above.
"Mama Hotaru!?" Rei gasps before she nods, realising that Marie has entered the world of sanitisation.
"Until we meet again, New Squidbeak Splatoon!" DJ Octavio booms as he and Callie leave the church, leaving both Rei and Neku alone.
Now this church is lonely after it was destroyed and the cross is left crushed, leading Rei to pray.
"What are you doing?" Neku asked.
"Mourning for those living in church. Even though I don't go there and am not religious, I have to respect the dead." Rei answered.
"Oh. Right." Neku got the memo.
In the end, both inklings are watching the foggy sky as snow is still falling.
