CHAPTER 3- Memories
"That's rough sis. I can't believe that the same people who were responsible for Andrew's dad's death are still around." Danny said as Dayla and Paulina were video-chatting with him and Sam from their dorm room.
"How's Andrew doing?" Sam asked.
"He hasn't really spoken a lot about the gala night…..or even come out of his dorm room during the rest of the weekend." Paulina answered.
"Even Jeffrey can't get him to come out. I'm really worried about him and what may be going through his mind right now." Dayla added, looking down in concern for her boyfriend.
"Just be there for him and remind him he's not alone. He's probably feeling a bit of emotional turmoil from all that's happened." Sam advised.
"Do you want us to help you sis?" Danny offered.
Dayla shook her head and answered, "No thanks bro. I think we handle this, but if we do need help, we'll call."
Andrew sat on his bed, looking down at the photograph of him with his father as a little kid. Memories of the time he had spent with his father before he died flashed throughout his mind.
FLASHBACKS
Five year old Andrew was playing with his toys in the living room of his old home. The front door then opened and Andrew smiled and shouted in excitement as he saw his dad Arthur Knight enter the house, "DADDY'S HOME!"
He got up from the floor and ran to Arthur. Arthur laughed as he picked up his son and hugged him in his arms.
Arthur stood a few feet away from his son with a baseball glove on. He threw the ball to now eight year old Andrew, who caught in his own glove. Andrew then threw the ball back and Arthur caught it.
"Great throw son! Make sure to keep your arm straight when you throw." Arthur said.
Andrew gave his dad a thumbs up.
Andrew smiled at those memories and then he remembered the very last day he saw his father alive…
FLASHBACK
Nine year old Andrew watched as Arthur finished packing some clothes in a bag and then straightened his uniform.
Arthur then turned to his son, "Well Andrew, this will be my last official time serving the New York base before we head for Jacksonville."
"How long are you going for this time?" Andrew asked.
"Only three weeks this time and then when I get back, we have to start organising our move." Arthur answered.
Andrew nodded but then looked down, looking sad. Arthur sat next to him and asked, "What's wrong son?"
"Why do we have to move? Why did you want to be in the navy anyway?" Andrew asked.
Arthur sighed, now understanding why Andrew was upset. His job did take up a lot of his time and Andrew loved living in New York. It was the place he was born and not only that, his cousin was here as well.
"Son, I know this is frustrating and I'm sorry that my job is making you move away from here. I love New York as well, but sometimes a person has to make the best out of what's given to him or her. Not only that, this promotion offers me a shore posting, which means I'll have more time to spend with you and your mother." Arthur explained. "As for your second question, I chose to be in the navy is because I love my family and my home and I would do anything to protect it and someday, make a difference so that hopefully you and the future generation will live in a world where there will be no more conflict."
Andrew nodded in understanding and then gave his father a hug as he said, "I love you dad."
Arthur hugged Andrew back and said, "I love you too son."
At the door, Arthur gave his family one last hug and then got in his car. He waved goodbye to his family and then headed off for work. That was the last time they would see Arthur Knight alive.
Now, the same people his father had sacrificed his own live to stop were back. He started to feel anger and hate towards them. This was not what his father wanted and now….he had to help stop them.
His thoughts were interrupted when he heard a knock on the door. He then heard Dayla's voice call out, "Andrew, can I come in?"
He answered, "Uh yeah….come in."
Dayla opened the door and then sat next to her boyfriend as she asked, "Are you okay? You know you can talk to me about anything right?"
Andrew nodded and then sighed, "Yeah I know. I just…..I just can't believe it. My father had given up his life stopping these people…..and now they're back. Before he left that day, he told me the reason he joined the navy was because he loved his family and his home and he wanted a world where the future generation of children could live where there would be no more conflict. It seems like his sacrifice was in vain and now…."
Dayla turned Andrew's face gently towards her and said, "Your dad's sacrifice was nor in vain! He saved a whole lot of people when he stopped them the first time and I promise, we will stop them with whatever they're up to again. Just….just don't shut us out. Let us help you."
Andrew nodded and said, "You're right. We'll stop them."
They both hugged each other and then Dayla said, "Now, we better speak to Marcus Brody. He just got out of hospital now and Agent Vincent said we can meet at his main office."
