And so begins the final battle.

Rei and Zero split as Rei is against Meggy Spletzer and Zero is against Spade.

On Rei's side.

Diving through an unfinished building, Rei is super jumping towards Meggy as an orange squid as Meggy changes her colour to dark grey and fires her Splattershot with a piercing glare.

Dodging, Rei grunts as she morphs back to her humanoid and vanishes at the speed of sound, only to be instantly blocked by Meggy's Splattershot.

Then CRASH! Both inkling girls are sliding backwards from each other and point their Splattershots at each other.

"Nothing personal, kid, but I heard that you and Zero bear a striking resemblance in terms of your behaviour, skill and your livelihood." Said Meggy as she chuckles.

Rei has no word as she's staying clear by targeting Meggy's head.

Gulping, Rei is ready to pull the trigger as Meggy sighs.

"Alright. Take the shot."

"Huh?" Rei stops as she lowers her Hero Shot.

"You heard me, Rei. Take the shot."

It's as if Meggy is taunting Rei, knowing that she'll counter Rei's ink.

Rei then lowers her Hero Shot and instead vanishes again, only to appear with an ink filled fist as Rei yells.

Then Meggy smirks.

"Too slow."

SPLAT!

To Rei's shock, her arm is no longer attached as grey ink fades to orange ink as her arm lands further away from Rei herself.

"Gh! Gaah!" Rei yells as she's holding her dismembered arm and falls to her knees.

As Rei is even more shocked, she has witnessed an ink like weapon that it's ridiculous to be considered a weapon.

"Like my death scythe? It's my demon power. Now, Rei, prepare yourself to have your soul reaped." Meggy laughs as she's placing her dark grey ink scythe with her eyes flashing from grey to crimson red, indicating that Meggy is not an inkling, but a literal grim reaper.

"Ngh!" Rei grunts, looking at a puddle of ink that's going to have her arm regenerated.

But why hasn't Mirai done it earlier unless…

"Seika!" Rei has realised that Mirai took Serika's arm as her own which is a means to manipulate Reaper's powers.

"Goodbye, Zero!" Meggy yelled.

This alerted Rei to dive and instantly morph into a squid and hastily dive into an orange ink.

Meggy missed.

"Tch! Rei! Don't think you'll hide from me! When I'm done with you, you'll be my next victim to be splatted!" Meggy is marching forward towards a puddle of orange ink and points her grey scythe down at it.

Meggy has the advantage to cut Rei down as her ink is left vulnerable.

As Meggy hastily swings down by creating a vertical ink wave, Rei alerts herself by leaping out as her arm has regenerated and then fires at Meggy's hands that are holding a scythe.

As Meggy's hands are hit, she shrieks as her hands are hissing by the burns of the opposing inks.

"Now you're off guard!" Rei then dashes again as she's about to finish Meggy off.

This leads to Meggy swinging her leg and booting Rei's stomach, drop kicking her and boots her away by tossing her down as Rei is coughing out her ink.

"Kah!" Rei yelled.

"How pathetic. I was expecting a female version of Zero, but I was wrong." Meggy frowns as she's sighing.

As Meggy picks up Rei by the collar of her coat, Meggy then proceeds to clench her fist and then push and pull by repeatedly punching Rei in the face as hard as she could.

It's unknown how many punches Rei took from Meggy as she can feel excruciating pain which causes her to burst out orange ink and blood out of her nose.

"What's the matter? Not picking up a fight? Tch! Come on. You're Zero, so you should be fighting back." Meggy says in a very bitter tone as she then headbutts Rei, swings her fist down and fires her Splattershot at Rei's stomach and slams her foot on Rei's legs as Rei screams and falls to the ground.

"It hurts! It hurts!"

Rei is now at the point of hopelessness as she's trying to crawl her way out, but is seeing her legs being ripped open as her ink leaks.

"Or maybe you're just a vessel. You know, Rei, just like you, I lost my friends and I never run away from the path I'm taking. You and I are the same. Losing friends and families, fighting for our lives. But the difference is our paths, since your path is nothing but a fool's path and mine's is a coward's path. But we overcame what the path said to us." Meggy approaches Rei while holding a Splattershot and a grey scythe.

Rei can tell this is the end of her journey as she's witnessing the one that is worse than Tartar in terms of fighting.

"Why?" Rei croaks.

"Hm?"

"Why didn't you save us from Tartar?" Rei asks as she's glaring at Meggy.

Meggy stops herself as she's watching a fellow inkling sitting up while being in pain.

Then Meggy sighs as she closes her eyes.

"Because you and Zero are the main characters. Tartar is yours to slain. I was the main character when facing my own ordeals in the past." Said Meggy.

"Main character? Us? Meggy, I think Zero will call you a weirdo if you think this is a video game. This is real life." Rei chuckles.

"Mirai got that idea since she wanted to be entertained. That girl… Always have to be a moron to say stupid things about us. And she gets sidelined in favour of me beating you. If she wants to play stupid games, then she gets a stupid prize." Meggy points at her Splattershot as her glare is as red as blood.

In the end, Rei is done for.

On Zero's side.

Blue and orange ink are splashing as Zero and Spade are super jumping on each other towards the sky and land on top of a beam as both inkling boys morph into their humanoid form.

"You know, Zero, I'm fond of your determination. That's why I took a liking to you and Mirai. Maybe you can join us as Team Spades and we'll liberate the world together." Spade convinces as he raises his arm towards Zero.

Zero sighs as he pulls up his Hero Shot and looks straight forward without a different expression.

Zero looks down to see if Rei's okay which leads him to look at Mirai who was playing with her phone.

"I'm asking you, Zero." Spade appears closer as Zero gasps. "Join me and you can have your wish granted."

"And what if I say no?" Zero spats out.

SPLAT!

An explosion of ink has caused Zero to get thrown towards another unfinished building as he hits his back on a beam, yelling out in pain.

Then he crashed onto the ground.

"Then you'll die like your reincarnated self." Spade calls as he glares down and leaps towards Zero.

"Damn you…" Zero growls and then vanishes at mach speed as he appears with his Hero Shot and puts it onto Spade's head in a split second.

Unfortunately, Spade fires his Hero Charger through Zero's stomach, causing Zero to cough out his own ink and fall to his knees.

"Too bad. So sad. Your obsession shows how far the mighty have fallen." Spade sighs out of disappointment.

"But… How did you…"

"You're faster than Rei. While Rei may be fast, Meggy proves to be faster than her, but not you. Your speed is so overwhelming that I resort to my demon power." Spade explains.

"Let me guess… Future sight?" Zero grunts as he asks.

"Correct. I know your every move, Zero." Spade pulls a wider smile, mocking Zero for being too slow.

Afterwards, Spade vanishes and then snipes Zero all over as Zero yells out which causes his limbs to dismember and then explodes into blue ink as his body crashes near an orange ink that is from his limbs.

Zero had witnessed his old opponent being far stronger than he previously fought, only for him to witness Rei being put under a similar situation with Meggy, who was Death.

He realises that his opponents are stronger and far more vicious, which means Mirai with her memories is also as dangerous as her friends are.

He and Rei had a similar reaction: Fear.

As Zero regenerates himself under an orange ink, he morphs back to normal as he pants.

Then he closed his eyes.

"Calm down, Zero… Whether Spade was, he's nearby some- !? Where!" Zero is being shot down constantly as he's trying to focus.

His skin burns as he's trying to find where Spade is at.

"In the end, you let everyone down, you especially let me down. Die." Spade calls as a click alerts Zero.

Instantly Zero turns behind and fires his Hero Shot with a splat.

Luckily, he caught Spade by the chest.

"Gh!? What!?" Spade exclaims.

"You may have seen my future, but I will change it!" Zero yells as he finally swings his orange ink covered fist.

This causes Spade to get his face slammed and then crash as he explodes into orange ink, leading Zero to pant.

"Well done, Zero." Spade calls as he laughs.

BANG! SPLAT!

This led to Zero getting his arm dismembered as he spurs our blue ink, causing him to yell.

"I guess I was wrong about you. I know your every move, but you countered that. Anyway, I'll spare you for now. Until we meet again, Zero." Spade waves as he leaves in a state of being beaten by Zero, leaving Zero in a messed up state.

"Wait… Wait! Spade!" Zero yells as he falls down and coughs out blood.

Finally, Zero is safe, but is unable to go any longer as he's tired.

"So, can I fight him now, Captain?" Mirai asks.

"Wait. Until he recovers, then you'll get to fight him." Spade says as he grunts in pain.

"Boo!" Mirai moans.

They're gone, but Zero is all alone.

He can at least count on Rei to win against Meggy despite being at a disadvantage, meaning she'll die.

But he's not giving up hope.

"Rei…"

Back to Rei.

What's left is Rei's lifeless body lying on the ground with Meggy watching a silver inkling girl with dull grey eyes dying as she's left with her legs torn and her clothing torn as well as her ink drying up.

Meggy sighs as she's staring at Rei and marches forward while turning her dark grey scythe on.

"Rei. You tried to fight back, but you're dying. How pitiful. Farewell, Zero." Meggy said while pointing her Splattershot at Rei's face, only for Rei to wheeze a gasp softly and slowly.

Rei knows it's her end. A foolish ending that should've listened and not to let others fall into a horrific battlefield.

What Rei has witnessed is the blue sky that is showing a couple of cranes flying past.

All Rei wants is a happy ending.

The way she sees a couple of cranes, she sees freedom.

And she wants to be free.

"Rei, you're an idiot. But an idiot is something that I admire." - Saki.

"You're just a kid like us, but you mustn't fall into your darkness. The light is waiting for you." - Sayaka.

"I always thought of you as a brave girl. I looked up to you, so be the inkling you are and don't run away from your goal." - Serika.

"I always see you as a big sister. I'm glad I get to stay with you. Thank you for taking care of me and my big sister." - Shiki.

"An idiot is always an idiot. But you're less of an idiot ever since you changed." - Ryu.

"You brought back the days of when I was young. I learned a lot from a kid like you. Now you can fight whatever the hell you want!" - Neku.

"A child usually hides in the shadows. But you're one of the few I respect. Show us your true self." - Fuuka and Shiver.

"I may not know much, but you're like an avenger. I'm glad that I gave you a wake up call. Do your best." - Utsuho and Frye.

"Ay!" - Big Man.

"I know you can do it! Kick 'em in the balls or something!" - Pearl.

"You're the very person that helped Zero understand his error of his ways. We know you're still there. As many say, may God bless your soul. Please save us, Rei." - Marina.

"I'm glad that you're my daughter, Rei." - Hotaru and Marie.

"I love you, Rei." - Aori and Callie.

"You're the only agent that can face something this dangerous, but I respect your decision. You changed all of us, young lassie." - Atarime Yoshio and Cap'n Craig Cuttlefish.

"Rei… Thank you." - Daigo.

"Everyone…" Rei raises her arm as she sees all of those she loves calling for Rei to never give up.

The angels are singing as it gives Rei the spirit that is something she finds absurd.

The angels are calling.

Now it's time for Rei to stand back up and fight.

"Yeah! I'll never give up! GRAAAAAAAAAAH!" Yelling, Rei clenches her fist as orange ink bursts out of her body and twists into a large gun that isn't a Hero Shot or a Hero Charger, but was something different, instantly turning on Zero by turning her tentacle hair orange and slit her eyes to orange as she goes full power.

Her body recovers while bleeding all over, but her limbs are back.

"What the!? What is this!?" Meggy gasps as she exclaims.

What Meggy sees is Zero's true power as Rei approaches Meggy with a golden glare as the gold represents Callie and Marie, or Aori and Hotaru, eyes as they're calling for her to achieve what she needs.

"Thank you, Meggy Spletzer. You proved to me that I can't win, but I'll beat you no matter what!" Rei shouts as she instantly appears in front of Meggy, fires her gun down as she dashes and pushes both her and Meggy outside as she grabs Meggy by the neck.

After that both inkling girls splits as Meggy swings her scythe and fires her Splattershot at Rei, leading Rei to block the ink and swings at a scythe as it resembles a gunblade made out of orange ink.

With Meggy throwing her scythe, Rei slams it aside and then appears closer to Meggy.

Then she stabs Meggy as Meggy yells and coughs out grey ink and blood and then BANG! Rei fires through Meggy's chest as Meggy herself screams, leading Rei to punch her to the wall and walk towards her by pointing her new gunblade at a dying Meggy.

Charging, Rei now has the opportunity to finish this battle as she yells.

Then SPLASH!

An explosion of orange ink has covered the majority of buildings as Rei successfully fires her ink.

Is it over?

"What?" Rei gasped.

What she witnessed is Mirai blocking Meggy while looking unscathed, leading Rei to grunt and cough as she's no longer a silver inkling, but an orange one.

"Hey. You owe me a lot." Mirai bitterly said as Meggy gasps.

"I… I can still fight." Meggy grunts as she slips down.

"Not in that condition you're not. We're in no condition to continue this fight. Consider yourself lucky, Rei." Spade said as he picked up Meggy like a bridal carry.

"Mirai… You're like my little sister… But I guess you're just as horrible as those out there." Rei said as she realised who Mirai was.

"Hmph. But today is your last. I hope you and Zero are saying goodbye together. Bye-bye, Rei." Mirai waves as she and Spade walk together with Meggy being carried.

Rei lowers her head as she can feel nothing but sadness.

Now she's all alone.

But that's the ending she's got.
