Tonight, was the 16th annual Backlash Pay-Per-View event. And tonight, there were 7 matches with 6 Championship titles being defended including two of the richest prizes in the WWE, the WWE Champion, and the World Heavyweight Championship. The main event of the show would be Roman Reigns taking on the "Swiss Superman" Cesaro. And there was no doubt that was gonna be the match of the night and it was worth noting that, that might be the match that everyone was excited to see.

A few other matches on the card were the World Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat match and the Intercontinental Championship match in which we would see the Champion, Ced defending against Jey Uso.

Speaking of which the man who would step into the ring to defend the coveted white and gold strap sat in the middle of the ring examining the arena. The ring had a white canvas with white ropes and a black apron featuring the Backlash logo. The stage of the arena was unique to the Pay-Per-View which was something rare for a WWE Pay-Per-View nowadays.

The stage was set with a set similar to the one used for the Pay-Per-View in 2000 with a more updated feel. And there were hopes that tonight this could be a step in the right direction of taking the WWE back to the period where the fans loved the content as before.

Cedric stood on the stage looking over the arena with a smirk on his face. He nodded his head along in amazement before he took a few steps going back behind the curtain to prepare for the show.

The WWE Universe booed as the music of "The Right-Hand Man" Jey Uso played on the PA System. Jey Uso walked out onto the stage wearing his white Air Force ones and black joggers with Right Hand Man plastered on the side. He wore a white arm sleeve on his arm with tape around his wrist and his Right-Hand Man shirt.

"The following contest is scheduled for one fall and is for the Intercontinental Championship. Introducing first, the challenger, making his way to the ring, from San Francisco, California. Weighing in at 242 Pounds. Jey Uso!"

Jey walked down the ramp, fired up, jawing at the Intercontinental Champion with a frown on his face. Once Jey hit the ringside area, he walked around to the steps running up the steps and onto the ring apron. He stepped foot in the ring and walked towards the center of the ring pointing a finger up in the sky as the WWE Universe booed him. The booes remained throughout the arena until the music of the Intercontinental Champion rang out on the PA system.

"Icon" Hits

The music of the WWE Intercontinental Champion hit on the PA system of the Moda Center making nearly 14,000 WWE fans rise up to their feet in Portland, Oregon. The arena lights turned to a frenzy of colors as of colors as Ced walked out onto the stage with the Intercontinental Championship around his waist clad in a set of black and blue ring trunks with black pads, boots and wrist tape. The champion walked out with his head held down looking at the arena floor as Jey Uso starred daggers into the soul of the Champion.

"And his opponent, making his way to the ring, from Charlotte, North Carolina. Weighing in at 252 Pounds. Ced!"

Ced slowly raised his head up and spat out a mist before he started his descent down the ramp. Once he made it to the ringside area, he looked around the crowd with a smirk on his face before he walked around to the steel steps. He walked up the steps and onto the apron before stepping inside the squared circle. He walked right past Jey Uso and made a beeline to the corner. He unhooked his title and stepped up onto the middle rope, raising it into the air as the fans cheered.

He slowly lowered his head and turned his attentions over to Jey Uso. He jumped down from the corner and handed the title off to the referee. The WWE Official grabbed a hold of the title and walked towards the center of the ring holding it up in the air as the Championship graphic went live on the titantron while both men stood across from the ring staring daggers at one another.

The official handed the title off to the ring crew before calling for the bell.

Ding-Ding-Ding!

And here we go. WWE Intercontinental Championship on the line as the two gladiators known as Ced circled around the squared circle before locking it up in a collar elbow tie-up. The two men battled for dominance as they used to strength to vy for the advantage that is until Ced was able to push Jey into the corner.

As Ced had Jey in the corner, he tried to go for a right hand but Jey ducked it and allowed Ced to be placed into the corner. Jey took this opportunity to clock Ced with a forearm blow to the jaw making the Champion grunt. Jey hit him with another blow before following up with a hard, stiff chop to the chest of Ced, making him hiss out in pain as Jey looked on with a smirk. Jey grabbed Ced by the head and neck and drug him over to the closet corner to smash his head into the turnbuckle pad.

As Jey had Ced stunned, he started to put the boots to his midsection trying to take all the air out of the Intercontinental Champion and keep him grounded. As Ced was leaning up against the bottom turnbuckle, panting for his breath, Jey took it upon himself to put his foot up to the throat of the Intercontinental Champion. Ced grunted as Jey applied more pressure as the referee started to count.

Ced stumbled up to his feet before Jey drug him to the center of the ring and set him up for a suplex but Ced was able to block it. Ced instead was able to lift Jey up into the air for a vertical suplex. The WWE Universe looked on in amazement as Ced kept him lifted in the air before he fell back allowing the former Tag Champion to crash onto the canvas. Jey Uso howled up in pain as he sat up feeling the pain in his spine. The Intercontinental Champion pushed Jey Uso back down to the canvas before rising up to his feet to drop a fist across the head.

He gripped up the middle rope and started to pull himself up as "Black Leone" walked towards him grabbing him by the hair, forcing him up to his feet before pulling him into a Belly-To-Back Suplex forcing "The Right-Hand Man" to crash onto the canvas. The Intercontinental Champion rose to his feet and backed into the corner. He looked around at the crowd before mocking the WWE Champion, Roman Reigns with his tribal roar in the corner. Ced ran towards Jey jumping up high into the air with amazing elevation before crashing down on the forehead with a well-placed knee drop to the head.

Ced once more with the hook of the leg.

2, Jey Uso powered at 2. The Intercontinental Champion mounted over Jey Uso and started to pile on a series of right hands until the referee had pulled him off. Ced stood up and took a few steps back getting some space from the former Tag Team Champion. This allowed Jey Uso to start to stir and crawl towards the ropes. Jey grabbed a hold of the ropes and started to use them to used them to pull himself up to a vertical base.

Ced ran towards Jey Uso looking for a spear but Jey pulled the referee in front of him and quickly ducked out of the way! The referee was down! Ced just speared the referee! The referee rolled out of the ring clutching his abdomen as Ced looked on while the fans booed at Jey's dirty tactics. Jey quickly rose up to his feet and tried to get the one up on Ced. Ced quickly turned around and caught Jey Uso putting him flat on his back with a Double C Spinebuster!

The Intercontinental Champion popped up to his feet and opened his arms wide for applause from the WWE Universe as the WWE Universe was cheering their hero. He lowered his arms and turned his attention to the official referring this match.

Ced stuck his head out between the middle and top rope looking to check on the referee who was down on the outside. He was distracted, and he didn't see the WWE Champion, Roman Reigns running down the ramp. Roman ran towards the timekeeper's area and grabbed the title away from the timekeeper and threw it into the ring. At this moment, he was caught with a kick to the side of the head by the returning, Jimmy Uso, who came from the crowd!

Ced stumbled back from the ropes and turned around, getting caught with the title belt that Roman threw into the ring. The title collided straight with his face making him drop to the canvas staring up at the lights. Jey Uso quickly discarded the title and went up to the top rope as the WWE fans booed while Jimmy was on the outside grabbing the referee and helping him roll back into the ring.

Jey Uso came flying off the top rope with a splash putting all of his body weigh onto Ced! Jey Uso hooked the leg as the WWE Universe booed loudly. The referee crawled over to the two groggily and started to make the count as Roman and Jimmy were cheering on.

"Here is your winner and the NEW Intercontinental Champion: Jey Uso!"

And with that Jey Uso just won his first singles title in the WWE and now that put him in an elite category. The referee rolled away still recovering from the spear that Ced unleashed earlier as the WWE Champion and Jimmy Uso both entered the ring embracing Jey Uso who had risen up to a knee. Jey rose up to his feet and his arms were raised by his cousin while his brother bent down to grab the title.

Roman let go of his arm and turned his attention over to Ced talking trash as Jey had finally gotten a hold of his title and raised it into the air. Roman had risen up to his feet and stood tall next to the new Intercontinental Champion and his cousin, Jimmy.

Jey clutched his title close to his chest as he, Jimmy and Roman exited the ring and started to make their way up the ramp as the fans booed. Ced, at this point, started to stir and crawled over to the ropes. Ced had grabbed a hold of the ropes and leaned up against the ropes as Jey, Jimmy and Roman stood tall on the stage.

Jey raised the title high into the air as Ced looked on at the stage with a look of disappointment and daze.

"This is my island! WWE is my island! I say who gets to be champion!" Roman shouted out into the air before the family walked behind the curtain leaving Ced there in the ring dazed as the music faded away.

The now-former Intercontinental Champion turned his head looking out among the crowd. He took a deep breath and grabbed a hold of the top rope and started to use them to pull himself up to a vertical base. The fans cheered and started clapping at the performance that Ced gave them as he looked out at the crowd. He walked towards the ropes and dropped down, rolling out to the ringside floor.

The former Champion walked up the ramp in disappointment slapping the hands of the fans on his way up. Once he made it to the stage, he peeked over his shoulder, looking out at the crowd, before walking back with his head down in disappointment.

A/N: So, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. I admit the match between Ced and Jey Uso wasn't as good as I wanted to be but I couldn't really focus on this story as I liked to. I have some stuff going on outside of this so I might have to take a break from Fanfiction from a while.
