Training and Encounters
The next morning, the Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy got out of bed and went to the cafeteria for breakfast.
"So what's the plan for today?" asked Eddy.
"I think it would be wise to train our new Pokemon." said Edd. "We just got them yesterday, so we should train them to make them stronger. We should take our Pokemon back to Route 1 for training."
"Good idea, sockhead." said Eddy.
"Maybe we can find more new Pokemon there." said Ed.
"Like a cute one!" said Sarah.
"I can't wait!" said Jimmy.
"Okay, then. Let's go!" said Eddy. After they got their Pokemon back from the nurse, along with buying some Potions, they exit the Pokemon Center and headed back to Route 1.
"So how do you train Pokemon?" asked Sarah.
"You mainly have them battle other Pokemon in order to make them stronger." said Edd.
"Oh. That seems easy enough." said Sarah. When they arrived at Route 1, they began training their Pokemon. During the training, Ed's Rowlet learned Peck while his Yungoos learned Pursuit. Edd's Popplio learned Disarming Voice and his Pikipek learned Echoed Voice. Eddy's Litten learned Lick and his Grubbin learned Mud Slap. Sarah's Happiny learned Defense Curl and Sweet Kiss while her Ledyba learned Supersonic; and Jimmy's Riolu learned Feint, while his Cateripe, though didn't learn anything, it did something else. After Jimmy's Caterpie's battle with a wild Yungoos, he suddenly froze up.
"Caterpie? Are you okay?" asked Jimmy. To his surprise, Caterpie started to glow. "Double-D! Something's wrong with Caterpie!" Edd and the others ran over to see what was going on. Upon seeing Caterpie, Edd lets out a sigh of relief.
"Jimmy. There's nothing wrong with Caterpie; he's evolving." said Edd.
"Evolving?" replied Jimmy.
"Some Pokemon when they become strong enough transform into a different Pokemon." said Edd. They all watch as Caterpie sprayed glowing thread out of his mouth that wrapped completely around his body. When the glowing finally stopped, they see that Caterpie looked like a green cocoon with eyes and a nose. Edd takes out the Rotom Pokedex and points it at Jimmy's newly evolved Pokemon.
"Metapod, the Cocoon Pokemon, and the evolved form of Caterpie. Its hard shell doesn't crack a bit even if Pikipek pecks at it, but it will tip over, spilling out its insides." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"Congratulations, Jimmy. Your very first evolution." said Edd. "And your Metapod has learned Harden which will make his shell harder and stronger; and he has the Shed Skin ability which will cure him of any status condition it may be afflicted with." Jimmy smiles in response. "If you keep training Metapod, he may evolve to his final form."
"Goody!" said Jimmy.
"Come on. Let's check out what's going on in Iki Town." said Eddy.
"Very well, Eddy." said Edd. Everyone returns their Pokemon to their pokeballs and starting walking towards the direction to Iki Town. As they did, a little boy approached them.
"Excuse me, but can I have a Pokemon battle with one of you?" asked the boy.
"Sure." said Ed. The boy looks at each member of the group until he stops at Sarah.
"I want to battle her." said the boy, pointing at Sarah.
"Why me?" asked Sarah.
"Because you're a girl, so you should be easy to beat." replied the boy. Sarah glares at the boy, her teeth clenched together, and her face turning red.
"WHAT DID YOU SAY?!" yelled Sarah, scaring the boy.
"Oh man. That kid just made the biggest mistake of his life." said Eddy.
"All right! I'll battle you!" yelled Sarah. A minute later, Sarah and the boy were standing several feet from each other in a clearing while the Eds were leaning against a fence while Jimmy was sitting on it. Sarah and the boy each pull out a pokeball.
"Go, Rattata!" said the boy, throwing the pokeball and releasing a dark grey, mouse-like Pokemon with a cream belly and cheeks. Edd pulls out the Rotom Pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Ratatta, the Mouse Pokemon. Night after night, they sneak into people's homes, seeking food. A massive outbreak of them has become an issue of public concern." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"Let's go, Happiny!" said Sarah, throwing Happiny's pokeball and releasing her. "Happiny, use Sweet Kiss!" Happiny runs at Ratatta and kisses it on the head. Ratatta stumbles around, dizzily.
"Ratatta. What's wrong?" asked the boy.
"Sweet Kiss causes confusion on the Pokemon it's used on." said Edd.
"Ratatta, try using Tackle!" said the boy. Ratatta runs forward, but rams into a tree, hurting itself.
"Happiny, Defense Curl!" said Sarah. Happiny curls into a ball and she glows blue.
"Good thinking, Sarah. Now Happiny's defense has increased." said Edd.
"Ratatta, Tackle!" said the boy. Ratatta runs at Happiny and rams into her, but not doing much damage due to her defense being increased.
"Happiny, Pound!" said Sarah. Happiny runs at Ratatta and hits it on the head.
"Ratatta, Tail Whip!" said the boy. Ratatta shakes his head, snapping out of the confusion, runs at Happiny and wags its tail onto her.
"Careful, Sarah. Tail Whip weakens a Pokemon's defense." said Edd.
"Okay, Double-D." said Sarah. "Happiny, Pound one more time!" Happiny jumps at Ratatta and hits it on the head, knocking it out.
"Ratatta, no!" exclaimed the boy.
"Ratatta is unable to battle. Happiny wins." said Edd.
"You did it, Happiny!" said Sarah, running over to Happiny and hugging her.
"Happiny!" cheered Happiny. All of a sudden, Happiny froze up.
"Happiny? What's wrong?" asked Sarah. Happiny started to glow, to their shock.
"Happiny's evolving!" said Edd. They watched as Happiny started to change. When she was done, she was bigger, her ponytail was gone and replaced by three hair growths coming out each side of her head, and she had a pouch with an egg in it on the center of her belly. Edd takes out the Rotom Pokedex and points it at Sarah's evolved Happiny.
"Chansey, the Egg Pokemon, and the evolved form of Happiny. Because the eggs on their bellies have been overharvested by people in the past, the Chansey population remains very small." said the Rotom Pokedex. Sarah walks up to Chansey and looks up at her. Chansey then looks down at Sarah and smiles softly at her and gives her a hug. Sarah smiles as she nuzzles Chansey.
"She's so soft." said Sarah.
"Congratulations, Sarah." said Edd. After a while, they broke the hug. The boy that Sarah just battled returns Ratatta to its pokeball. He walks over to Sarah.
"Well, you beat me." said the boy. He gives Sarah pokedollars.
"That's right I did." said Sarah.
"Sorry for what I said earlier." said the boy, rubbing his arm.
"You better watch what you say to me next time." said Sarah. She then points at Ed. "Or you may have to deal with my big brother over there." The boy looks to see who she was pointing at and gasps.
"You're Ed's little sister?!" asked the boy.
"You bet your sweet bippy she is." said Ed, walking over to Sarah. The boy reaches into his pocket and pulls out a trading card with Ed in his Overall Style outfit on it, holding a pokeball, along with a pen and holds them out towards Ed.
"Can I have your autograph, Ed?" asked the boy.
"Sure." replied Ed. He takes the trading card and pen and signs his name on the card. He then gives the card and pen back to the boy.
"Wow. Thanks, Ed." said the boy. He then leaves and starts heading towards Iki Town.
"Congratulations on winning your first battle, Sarah." said Edd.
"Thanks, Double-D." said Sarah. As they continued heading towards Iki Town, a girl steps out in front of them.
"Excuse me. But would any of you like to battle me?" asked the girl. Edd steps forward.
"I would be glad to battle with you, miss." said Edd. The girl squints her eyes as she looks at Edd.
"You look familiar." said the girl as she pulls out a pokeball. "Whatever. You're still going down." She throws the pokeball, releasing a Caterpie. Edd pulls out his Pikipek's pokeball and releases him from it. Everyone else stands by a fence to watch.
"Okay, Pikipek. Use Echoed Voice!" said Edd. Pikipek opens his beak and lets out a loud soundwave which travels towards the Caterpie and hits it, sending it flying.
"Hurry, Caterpie. Use String Shot!" said the girl. Caterpie releases a stream of silky thread at Pikipek.
"Pikipek, dodge and use Echoed Voice again!" said Edd. Pikipek flies out of the thread's path and releases another soundwave which has more force than the last one and hits Caterpie hard enough to knock it out. "Good thing Echoed Voice's power increases if used consecutively in a row." The girl drops to her knees in disbelief.
"I don't believe it. How could I lose so easily?" asked the girl as she returns her Caterpie to its pokeball. Edd's friends cheered for his victory.
"Double-D won!" said Ed. The girl's eyes widen in realization.
"Double-D? The second place winner of the Lily of the Valley Conference over a month ago in the Sinnoh region?!" asked the girl.
"Indeed I am." said Edd. The girl runs over and holds Edd's hands, making him blush.
"It's an honor to be defeated by you, Double-D!" said the girl. "And honestly, I thought you were the cuter one between you and your friends, making Edd's blush deepen.
"Hey! I'm way better looking than sockhead!" said Eddy. But the girl just ignored him.
"Anyway, thanks for the awesome battle." said the girl as she hands Edd some pokedollars. After a few seconds of hesitation, she kisses Edd on the cheek and runs off giggling. At the Lemon Brook Juvenile Detention Center in the cafeteria, Marie rams her fork into her lunch tray, startling everyone near her, including her sisters.
"What's with you?" asked Lee. "I know the food here stinks, but you didn't need to stab the tray."
"It's not the food, even though it stinks." said Marie. "But I have a feeling that my Double-D is with another woman!" Back at Alola, after Edd got over his surprise after being kissed, the group continues on its way. As they got closer to Iki Town, another little boy walked over to Jimmy.
"Excuse me, but do you have Pokemon?" the boy asked.
"Yes I do." replied Jimmy.
"Want to have a Pokemon battle with me?" asked the boy.
"Sure." replied Jimmy. Jimmy and the boy soon stood several feet from each other while the Eds and Sarah watched. The boy pulls out a pokeball.
"Go, Yungoos!" said the boy as he throws his pokeball, releasing a Yungoos.
"I choose you, Riolu!" said Jimmy, throwing Riolu's pokeball and releasing him. "Riolu, Quick Attack!" Riolu charges at Yungoos with incredible speed and rams into it, knocking it back.
"Yungoos, Leer." said the boy. Yungoos stares at Riolu and its eyes glow blue, making Riolu sulk.
"Use Feint!" said Jimmy. Riolu disappears and reappears in front of Yungoos and punches it, knocking it back.
"Tackle!" said the boy. Yungoos runs at Riolu and rams him in the chest, knocking him back.
"Quick Attack!" said Jimmy. Riolu charges at Yungoos and rams into it, knocking it to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Yungoos is unable to battle. Riolu wins." said Edd.
"You did it, Riolu!" cheered Jimmy. Riolu does a fist pump. The boy returns Yungoos to its pokeball and walks over to Jimmy.
"You're a strong trainer." said the boy.
"Thanks." replied Jimmy. The boy gives Jimmy pokedollars and walks away.
"Congratulations, Jimmy." said Edd as he and the others walk over to him. "Your first Pokemon battle victory." He hears the Rotom Pokedex chime. Edd pulls it out of his pocket and looks at it. "Oh. According to this, your Riolu learned Metal Claw. A strong move that also increases the attack strength of the Pokemon that uses it."
"Wow." replied Jimmy. He returns Riolu to his pokeball and the group continue walking toward Iki Town. When they got to the gate, they see two people, one male and one female, in futuristic-looking, white and navy blue uniforms with elongated helmets.
"You don't have to try so hard to act like you're not interested, you know?" asked the female. "Maybe a festival isn't so bad sometimes. The aura measurements are pretty high, too!"
"Are they?" replied the male. "It is only thanks to the Blinding One that Alola is overflowing with such brilliance." They turn halfway around, bringing to the Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy's attention their pale, bluish-white skin. "Though the Blinding One is left in such a state now, so dark and enfeebled"
"We've just got to make sure the Blinding One can shine like it used to again, right!" said the female. "So let's get started by having a look around!" They turn around some more and notice the Eds' group.
"You...are likewise new to the shores of Alola." said the male. "Fellow travellers from a distant land." The Eds' group look confused.
"Uhh. Yeah, we just arrived yesterday." said Eddy with a creeped out voice. After that, the two mysterious people walked away.
"That was unusual." said Edd.
"They were creepy." said Jimmy.
"I hope they aren't like that Team Galactic group you three told us about before." said Sarah.
"Me, too." said Eddy.
"Well I think we should be on our way then." said Edd. The group then continue on their way and enter Iki Town.
