The Festival
When the Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy entered Iki Town, they see people all over the place, talking, and setting up decorations in the center of town along with tables and chairs. They also notice other kinds of Pokemon that they never seen before. Ed looks at a small, brown, doglike Pokemon.
"What's that Pokemon, you guys?" asked Ed. Edd takes out the Rotom Pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Rockruff, the Puppy Pokemon. When it rubs the rocks on its neck against you, it's proof of its love for you. However, the rocks are sharp, so the gesture is quite painful!" said the Rotom Pokedex.
"I guess love does hurt sometimes." said Edd. He also takes notice of a very tall Pokemon that looks like a palm tree with three heads at the top of it, while a fourth head was at the end of its tail. Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Exeggutor, the Coconut Pokemon. It swings its long neck like a whip and smacks its opponents. This makes Exeggutor itself dizzy, too." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"What's going on here?" asked Eddy.
"They must be setting up for that festival Kahuna Hala told us about yesterday." said Edd.
"Oh yeah." replied Eddy. Professor Kukui and Lillie walk over to them. Edd blushes at the sight of Lillie.
"So, children, did anyone tell you about tonight?" asked Professor Kukui. Nebby moves around in Lillie's duffel bag.
"About what?" asked Ed.
"A full-powered festival for Pokemon battling." replied Professor Kukui. "We battle in the name of Tapu Koko, pitting our best moves against one another in friendly competition to please our guardian."
"Cool." said Ed.
"So, which one of you would like to take part in the festival battle?" asked Professor Kukui. Sarah runs forward.
"Ooh! I wanna do it!" said Sarah. Professor Kukui smiles at Sarah.
"Very well." said Professor Kukui. "And you wanting to battle reminded me of something."
"What?" asked Edd.
"The Alola League also has a junior division for younger trainers to participate in." said Professor Kukui, surprising the Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy.
"Really?!" replied Jimmy.
"Yes. Perhaps you and Sarah would like to compete in it." said Professor Kukui.
"Yes, sir!" said Jimmy.
"I wanna do that, too!" said Sarah. She and Jimmy started to fantasize about becoming famous Pokemon trainers like the Eds are.
"That's great to hear." said Professor Kukui. "You'll still need your Trainer Passports in order to travel throught the Alola Region."
"You told us yesterday you had extras at your lab, right?" asked Edd.
"Yes. My lab is south of here on the outskirts of Hau'oli City. Stop by when you get your pictures taken for your passports and I'll give Sarah and Jimmy theirs and take their pictures for them."
"Yes, sir." said Edd. Kahuna Hala walks up to them.
"The festival is about to begin, everyone." said Kahuna Hala.
"Okay." said Professor Kukui. Everyone heads to the town square. A few minutes later, Sarah was standing on an end of the stage in the center of town, eager for battle.
"Okay. We have this young lady ready to battle." said Kahuna Hala. "Anyone want to battle her?"
"Yes. I will." said a girl's voice. Everyone looks to see a young girl about Sarah's age with dark skin and shoulder-length, wavy black hair, wearing an orange tank top, yellow shorts and sandals walking to the stage. Walking behind her was a boy that almost looked like her, but his hair was shorter, and he was wearing a navy-blue polo shirt, gray capri pants, a navy blue and white bucket hat, and white sandals. The girl steps onto the stage.
"What's your name, young lady?" asked Kahuna Hala.
"Nancy." replied the girl, now identified as Nancy. She points at the boy who was with her. "This is my twin brother, Nathan."
"Very well." said Kahuna Hala. He walks to one side of the stage while Sarah and Nancy face each other. "This festival battle will be between Sarah and Nancy. Each trainer will use only one Pokemon. The battle will end when one trainer's Pokemon is unable to battle. Let this festival battle begin!" Sarah pulls a pokeball out of her pocket while Nancy pulls out a pokeball that's almost completely black with a gold band around the middle and a gold button.
"What kind of pokeball is that?" asked Sarah.
"This is a Luxury Ball." said Nancy. "It makes the Pokemon in it more friendly." Sarah growls because Nancy had a better pokeball than her.
"Let's go, Chansey!" said Sarah, throwing Chansey's pokeball and releasing her.
"Come on out, Jigglypuff!" said Nancy, throwing a pokeball and releasing a pink, balloon-like Pokemon.
"What is that?" asked Edd. He takes out the Rotom Pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Jigglypuff, the Balloon Pokemon. The songs they sing are totally different depending on the region they live in. Some even sound like they're shouting!" said the Rotom Phone. Happiny and Jigglypuff face each other.
"Chansey, Defense Curl!" said Sarah. Happiny curls into a ball and increases her defense.
"Jigglypuff, Sing!" said Nancy. Jigglypuff begins to sing and Chansey begins to get drowsy and falls asleep.
"Chansey?!" said Sarah.
"Sing puts other Pokemon to sleep, Sarah." said Edd.
"Chansey, wake up!" said Sarah.
"Jigglypuff, Pound!" said Nancy. Jigglypuff bounces over to Chansey and hits her, but not doing much damage due to Chansey's defense being increased by Defense Curl.
"Good thing Sarah had Chansey use Defense Curl before Jigglypuff used Sing." said Edd.
"Wake up, Chansey!" yelled Sarah. Chansey's eyes open and she jumps back to her feet, surprising Nancy.
"How did Chansey wake up so quickly?" asked Nancy.
"Sarah and Chansey must have a strong bond." said Edd.
"Sarah and Chansey play with each other all the time back home back when she was a Happiny." said Ed.
"And with a strong bond like theirs, Chansey will be able to break through status conditions." said Edd.
"Looks like Sarah didn't need a Luxury Ball to make Chansey friendly with my baby sister." said Ed.
"Chansey, Sweet Kiss!" said Sarah. Chansey blows a kiss and releases a glowing pink heart at Jigglypuff and hits it. Jigglypuff's eyes become swirly, and she stumbles around.
"Jigglypuff, what's wrong?!" asked Nancy.
"Sweet Kiss confuses the Pokemon it's used on." said Edd.
"Jigglypuff, try using Sing!" said Nancy. Jigglypuff tries to use Sing, but its confusion got the better of it and it hurt itself.
"Chansey, Pound!" said Sarah. Chansey hops over to Jigglypuff and pounds it, knocking it back.
"Jigglypuff, try using Pound!" said Nancy. Jigglypuff broke through its confusion and bounces over to Chansey and hits her.
"Oh yeah?! Chansey, Pound!" said Sarah. Chansey hops to Jigglypuff and pounds it.
"Jigglypuff, use Charm!" said Nancy. Jigglypuff got through its confusion again, bounces over to Chansey and hugs her.
"What does that move do?" asked Sarah.
"It weakens the attack strength of the Pokemon it's used on, Sarah." replied Edd.
"Chansey, Pound!" said Sarah. Chansey walks over to Jigglypuff and pounds it, but not doing much damage like the previous Pound attacks due to Chansey's attack strength being weakened. Jigglypuff shakes itself, snapping itself out of its confusion.
"Jigglypuff, Pound!" said Nancy. Jigglypuff bounces towards Happiny and swings its arm at her.
"Chansey, Minimize!" said Sarah. Chansey glows a pinkish-purple and shrinks, making Jigglypuff miss. "Now use Pound!" Chansey returns to her regular size and pounds Jigglypuff, causing critical damage. Jigglypuff is sent flying past Nancy and off the stage and lands on the ground with swirly eyes.
"No, Jigglypuff!" cried Nancy, running off the stage to Jigglypuff and picks it up.
"Jigglypuff is unable to battle. Chansey wins. The winner of this festival battle is Sarah." said Kahuna Hala.
"We did it, Chansey!" said Sarah, running over to Chansey and hugs her while Chansey hugs her back.
"Congratulations, Sarah." said Edd.
"That's my sister!" cheered Ed.
"Way to go, Sarah." said Jimmy. The townspeople, except for Nathan applauded Sarah and Chansey. Sarah and Chansey both bowed. Nancy stomps towards Sarah while carrying a battered Jigglypuff who was waking up while Nathan was following her. She holds Jigglypuff towards Sarah.
"Look what your dumb Chansey did to Jigglypuff!" yelled Nancy.
"Hey! Chansey won fair and square!" exclaimed Sarah.
"Your Chansey probably cheated!" said Nathan. Jimmy runs onto the stage and stands next to Sarah and glares at Nathan.
"Sarah and Chansey didn't cheat!" said Jimmy.
"What would you know about Pokemon training?" asked Nancy.
"We'll have you know we're being taught by my brother and his friends!" yelled Sarah.
"Oh yeah? Who's your brother and his friends?!" asked Nathan. Sarah points to the Eds, shocking Nancy and Nathan.
"You've been taught by the top three trainers of the Lily of the Valley Conference?!" asked Nathan.
"That's right!" said Sarah. Nancy and Nathan look at each other, then they both walked away.
"Where's my money?!" yelled Sarah. Nancy turns around and tosses pokedollars near Sarah's feet. Kahuna Hala walks up onto the stage while Sarah was picking up her pokedollars.
"Well, that was an eventful battle." said Kahuna Hala. All of a sudden, a loud cry was heard from above them.
"What was that?" asked Eddy.
"That was Tapu Koko's song of approval; meaning he enjoyed the battle very much." said Kahuna Hala. He then turns towards the Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy. "And also, I have these for you five." He then hands each of them a shiny wristband.
"What are these?" asked Edd.
"Those are Z-Power Rings." said Kahuna Hala.
"Z-Power Rings?" replied Edd.
"They're armbands that can draw out the power that lies deep within Pokemon." said Kahuna Hala. "They can bring forth their Z-Powers!"
"Z-Powers?" replied Ed.
"I made those Z-Power Rings from the Sparkling Stones you got from Tapu Koko yesterday." said Kahuna Hala. "You need Z-Crystals to use them which you can collect as you take the Island Challenge."
"Very well." said Edd.
"It's time for you five to go out there and start your Island Challenges." said Professor Kukui from nearby. "You'll need to travel to all four islands here in the Alola Region. The Island Challenge is about aiming to be the strongest trainer- the Alola League Champion!"
"That's going to be me!" said Eddy.
"Not if I can help it, Eddy." said Edd.
"I will be champion!" said Ed.
"I'll be the junior division champion!" said Sarah.
"I'm going to try my very best!" said Jimmy. Kahuna Hala walks over to the Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy and gives each of them an amulet with a yellow, red, pink, and purple marking and beads.
"What are these?" asked Edd.
"These are your Island Challenge Amulets." said Kahuna Hala. "They show that you're competing in the Island Challenge."
"Cool." said Ed as he puts his amulet around his neck. Everyone else does the same thing.
"Now then, everyone enjoy the festival." said Kahuna Hala with a smile. The festival was soon underway with everyone feasting, talking, and dancing with the Eds being asked questions by the fans they have there. Sometime later, Edd decides to go out to Route 1 to get some peace and quiet for a bit.
"It's amazing how one prank got us started on such an exciting path as Pokemon Trainers." said Edd as he thinks back to how he and his friends first arrived in the Sinnoh Region over three months ago. As he looks up at the night sky, he hears some rustling coming from some nearby grass. He looks to see a green spiderlike Pokemon with black and yellow legs, and red fangs crawling out from it. Edd takes out the Rotom Pokedex and points it at the new Pokemon.
"Spinarak, the String Spit Pokemon. Although the poison from its fangs isn't that strong, it's potent enough to weaken prey that gets caught in its web." said the Rotom Pokedex. Edd thinks back to Mildred, the spider that he feeds and monitors in his basement back at his house in Peach Creek and feels that the Spinarak reminds him of her.
"Well I do need more Pokemon for my team, and I feel a bond with this one." said Edd as he takes out his Pikipek's pokeball and releases him from it. Pikipek and the Spinarak stare at each other. "Pikipek, use Peck!" Pikipek flies at the Spinarak and pecks at it, doing super effective damage. Spinarak suddenly jumps at Pikipek, wraps its legs around him, and starts to squeeze him. "Pikipek, use Echoed Voice!" Pikipek opens his beak and releases a loud soundwave which hits Spinarak at point blank and sends it flying to the ground. Seeing it struggling to get up, Edd pulls out an empty pokeball and throws it at Spinarak, hitting it and sucking it in. The pokeball wiggles a few times before clicking, indicating a successful capture.
"Success! I have captured Spinarak!" He takes out the Rotom Pokedex and uses it to check his new Spinarak's information. "This says that my new Spinarak is a girl, she knows Poison Sting, String Shot, and Constrict, and she has the Swarm ability like my old Kricketune which powers up her bug type moves when her stamina is low." Once that was done, he puts the Rotom Pokedex away and heads back into Iki Town. Back at Iki Town, Sarah was drinking from a pineapple cup and Chansey was eating a slice of watermelon while Jimmy was eating a pineapple slice and Riolu was eating an apple. Sarah looks to see Nancy and Nathan walking over to her. Jimmy sees this and walks over to Sarah's side with Riolu following him. The twins stop near them.
"What do you want?" asked Sarah.
"You competing in the juniors division?" asked Nancy.
"You bet I am." said Sarah.
"Me too." said Jimmy. Nancy and Nathan pull Island Challenge amulets from underneath their shirts.
"So are we." said Nathan.
"And I intend to settle the score with you there, Sarah." said Nancy. Nathan looks at Jimmy.
"Maybe you and me can have a battle sometime." said Nathan.
"How about right now?" said Jimmy.
"Not today. I want to have some fun at this festival." said Nathan. "And when we do have a battle someday, I will beat you."
"I would like to see you try." said Jimmy. He and Nathan glare at each other while Sarah and Nancy do the same. The twins then walk away and to a buffet table. Ed walks over to Sarah and Jimmy.
"Looks like you two have Pokemon rivals now." said Ed.
"Pokemon rivals?" asked Sarah. Eddy walks over to them.
"They're trainers who try to be better than you or simply don't like you." said Eddy.
"Did you have rivals?" asked Jimmy.
"You remember that Tara girl I fought in the Sinnoh League?" asked Ed. Sarah and Jimmy nod. "She was my rival because I like all Pokemon, even the ones she thought were ugly."
"Devon was mine because he was a jerk." said Eddy. "Mel was Double-D's rival because he didn't like how Mel was not cool to females."
"I didn't like Mel either." said Sarah.
"The one good thing about having rivals is that they motivate you to work hard to make your Pokemon stronger." said Eddy.
"Then I'm going to work hard to make my Pokemon strong so I can beat Nancy next time we battle." said Sarah.
"The same goes for me with Nathan." said Jimmy. Ed sees people dancing and does the worm, or 'Wurmple' over to them, making people amused at his dance move. Edd was looking around the festival when he sees Lillie.
"Hello, Lillie." said Edd.
"Hello, Double-D." replied Lillie. Edd was rubbing the back of his head, blushing.
"Um. Would you like to dance with me?" asked Edd. Lillie blushes a little.
"Sure." replied Lillie. They began dancing next to each other. At the Lemon Brook Juvenile Detention Center, inside the Kanker's cell, Marie suddenly developed what felt like a stomach cramp and drops to her knees.
"What's wrong, Marie?" asked Lee. "The food here getting to you?"
"No. I think my man is doing something with another girl!" yelled Marie. Back in Iki Town, the festival was drawing to a close. The Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy were starting to walk back to Hau'oli City.
"That was fun!" said Sarah.
"I'll say." said Jimmy. Eddy looks at Edd with a smirk.
"I saw you dancing with Lillie during the festival." said Eddy. Edd blushes and smiles a little.
"I quite enjoyed that." said Edd. He takes out his new Spinarak's pokeball and looks at it.
"What's with the pokeball?" asked Eddy.
"I caught a new Pokemon during the festival." said Edd.
"You're catching Pokemon without us?!" exclaimed Eddy.
"Well since I'm going to compete in the Alola League, I'll need more Pokemon." said Edd.
"Well, I'm gonna start catching more Pokemon for my team!" said Eddy.
"Me, too!" said Ed.
"So will I!" said Jimmy.
"I'm gonna catch the strongest and bestest Pokemon so I can beat Nancy at the junior division!" said Sarah. Ed then looks over at Edd.
"So what Pokemon did you catch, Double-D?" asked Ed. Edd opens the pokeball and releases his Spinarak from it. "Cool!"
"EWWWWW! A spider!" said Sarah.
"This Pokemon is called a Spinarak. It's part bug and part poison type. I have a fascination with arachnids, so I wanted to capture her." said Edd.
"Well keep it away from me!" said Sarah. Edd returns Spinarak to her pokeball. After that, they all return to the Pokemon Center where Edd gives the nurse his Pikipek and Spinarak's pokeballs while Sarah gives her Chansey's pokeball. Just then, an announcement was heard over the PA system.
'Attention. Ed, Edd, and Eddy; you have a phone call in the lobby.' said the voice over the PA system.
"I'm guessing that's Kevin's crew." said Eddy.
"Most likely." said Edd.
"Well let's see what they want." said Eddy. They went to the lobby and a nurse directed them to a phone. The Eds answer and see Kevin, Rolf, and Jonny's faces.
"Hi, guys!" said Ed.
"How are you doing in the Kalos Region, gentlemen?" asked Edd.
"Check these out." said Kevin as he, Rolf, and Jonny each held out a beetle-shaped object to the screen.
"Are those gym badges?" asked Eddy.
"That's right. We got our first gym badges." said Kevin.
"What are those badges called?" asked Ed.
"They're called Bug Badges." said Jonny.
"I assume by the badges; the gym leader there uses bug type Pokemon." said Edd.
"Double-D Ed Boy is correct." said Rolf.
"Congratulations, gentlemen. You're one step closer to competing in the Kalos League." said Edd.
"Thanks, Double-D." said Kevin.
"And look who decided to join us." said Jonny. He moves to one side and Nazz walks in front of the screen, surprising the Eds.
"What's Nazz doing there?!" asked Eddy.
"She got lonely without us around so she asked her parents if she could come here to the Kalos Region, and they said it was okay." said Kevin.
"Well, that's wonderful to hear." said Edd. "This will be a great opportunity to see the world."
"Thanks, Double-D." Nazz said with a smile. "Hey. Want to see my Pokemon?"
"You have a Pokemon?" asked Ed. Nazz holds out a Great Ball and she tosses it up and out of it came a small white and green Pokemon with a pointed nose, long ears, and wearing a crown made of yellow beads of pollen, holding a yellow flower.
"She looks so cute!" said Sarah as she and Jimmy jump out in front of the Eds.
"Hi, Sarah and Jimmy." said Nazz.
"Hello, Nazz." said Jimmy.
"So how are you two doing?" asked Nazz.
"Great. Me and Jimmy found out that there's a junior's division here." said Sarah.
"Junior's division?" replied Nazz.
"It's a Pokemon tournament where trainers under the age of eleven can compete in." said Jimmy.
"Are you two going to enter it?" asked Nazz.
"You bet!" said Jimmy.
"And if I win, I'll be famous just like my brother and his friends." said Sarah.
"They're famous?" asked Nazz.
"Yeah. On the day they arrived here, people kept asking for their autographs." said Sarah.
"There's t-shirts, action figures, and trading cards of them here." said Sarah.
"And in Iki Town, I was walking past a house and looked in a kid's bedroom window and saw a poster of them in there." said Jimmy.
"That is so cool." said Nazz.
"And if me or Jimmy win, we'll be signing autographs and be on t-shirts." said Sarah. "Hey, Nazz, remember Happiny?"
"How can I forget that cutie?" asked Nazz.
"She evolved." replied Sarah.
"Wow. Can I see her?" asked Nazz.
"She's being treated right now by a nurse." said Sarah.
"Is she okay?" asked Nazz.
"Yeah. I had a Pokemon battle with someone, and I won." said Sarah.
"Well congratulations, Sarah." said Nazz. "And guess what; I'm gonna be going for the Kalos League as well."
"That's amazing, Nazz." said Edd.
"Thanks. Tomorrow, the guys here are going to be teaching me about Pokemon training and helping me build my team." said Nazz.
"I'm certain they'll be a big help. After all, their experiences and what they learned from me and my friends during the week before we left to come here will be invaluable in your quest." said Edd.
"Thanks, dude." said Nazz. After a few minutes of talking, they ended the call.
"Well, it was certainly a surprise to see Nazz there." said Edd.
"She should've came here." said Eddy in a cranky tone of voice.
"It was her decision and we have to respect it." said Edd.
"I guess." said Eddy. They looked at the time and saw it was getting late. They all went to their room, showered and brushed their teeth (except for Ed), and went to sleep.
