The day was supposed to go the same as any other. A quick patrol run before school followed by 7 hours of boring classes and finishing up the day with more patrol. You know, the average normal day of a teenage boy. At least normal if you are a 16 year old who can turn into a massive, vampire hunting, wolf that is.

The final bell rang, free at last. Why Sam insisted we had to finish high school was beyond me. The whole thing seemed trivial once you knew about all the supernatural hiding in the world. But I guess turning into a wolf wasn't exactly a well paid career.

The boys and I all piled into my Rabbit and headed back over the Emilys to see what Sam had in store for us today. He had been working us hard ever since the red headed leech started hanging around. Vampire activity has really gone up recently which has been both good and bad. Bad because well, vampires. Good because nothing blows off steam like ripping a vampire to shreds. And I have plenty of steam to blow off, Sam isn't letting me tell Bella about the whole werewolf thing and it's driving me crazy. I hate having to hide from her, telling her we can't be friends is tearing me apart. I miss her like crazy.

We are all headed on patrol again this afternoon. Sam says he has a good feeling that we are close to catching the red head. He hopes we will be able to get her tonight.

I phase with the boys. I can feel their thoughts forcing their way into my mind. It's a mess for a few minutes while everyone gets control over themselves.

We all started our paths through the forest, branching out to cover more ground. The air is damp, heavy with the smells of leaves and soil. I can feel it in the air, there is a leech out there tonight and we are going to catch them. I hear Jared howl, his voice filling my head. He had caught the trail. We all fall in together following the scent of the vampire. It isn't the red head, we can tell. It's somebody new.. We are eager to protect our people all the same.

Our footsteps are heavy and quick on the forest floor as we move in sink towards the monster in the wood. Dashing past tree by tree. Then suddenly a new smell invades my senses and makes me stop in my tracks. The others speed ahead, too focused on the reaking smell of the leech. The new smell is wildly strong to me and I'm shocked the others don't notice. It's the smell of vanilla, oranges and cedar. It's intoxicating. I look up wildly in search of the source of such a strong, sweet smell out in the middle of the forest.

Then I see her. A small girl curled up at the base of a massive oak tree. She is practically drowning in blankets and jackets. Her light blond hair pulled into a braid, pieces falling into her face, floating in the breeze. Her nose and cheeks pink from the cold. Her full pink lips open and large brown eyes wide in surprise. The moment I look into her eyes everything changes. It feels like the ground is coming out from under me, the world spins around me for a moment. Her face is the only thing that is clear. And in that instant it is just me and her and nothing else matters. It's not gravity holding me to the earth, it's her. And I want to be whatever she needs, anything she needs, keep her safe and happy no matter what. In that moment she becomes everything.

Coming back to myself I can hear the voices of my pack screaming in my ears.

"HOLY SHIT'

'JAKE IMPRINTED'

'RIGHT NOW DUDE, SERIOUSLY, WE ARE A LITTLE BUSY!'

'BACK ON TRACK BOYS WE ARE CLOSE'

This snaps me back to reality. There is a vampire in the same woods as my imprint and she needs to be protected. The leech has to die. Right now.

I run off after my pack, more eager than ever to tear a vampire to pieces.
