Christmas Island, the home of the Kingdom of Snow and its prince, Sonic the Hedgehog. A restless, adventurous boy, Sonic rarely ever thought of his royal duties and would rather go on adventures and travel the world. His mothers, Aleena and Bernadetta, were never bothered by this, but after the latter passed away, Aleena has been more strict towards Sonic's carefree attitude towards his royal lineage, though never to a point of being overbearing. Now at the age of sixteen, the young blue hedgehog prepares to leave for the Kingdom of Acorn to meet with their rulers.

Across the snowy landscape of Christmas Island, between the pine tree filled expanse, a fairly sizable town stood, log cabins with multicolored lights hanging on the rims of roofs, on the doorways, and on the windows. Many different Mobians, both old and young were out and about, enjoying the snow before a blue streak ran by, building a snow-hedgehog in seconds flat. A nearby reindeer Mobian in a blue sweater holding a stopwatch clicks the timer.

Reindeer: "Holy cow! .83 seconds, Sonic! You just beat last week's snowhog building record!"

Sonic: "Hehe!"

Sonic stood by his creation, wearing a red scarf around his neck as he rubbed under his nose with a smirk.

Sonic: "Looks like I'm getting better then. Never underestimate the fastest hedgehog alive."

Reindeer: "I wonder if you can go even faster. By this point, you're gonna be done by the time I hit the clicker."

As Sonic continues to stroke his ego, he hears a voice. Aleena steps into the snow and approaches, smiling at her son warmly.

Aleena: "Hello, Sonic. I hope I'm not interrupting. But it's time to get ready for our trip."

Sonic: "Ah… Right… We have to go to the Kingdom of Acorn for that business meeting… Joy…"

Sonic was clearly unhappy but Aleena simply placed her hands on her hips. Sonic immediately backpedaled and instead said he's excited to go, if at least to see Sally.

Aleena: "Sigh… Sonic. I know you don't like the royalty side of your life… But sometimes you have to think about those around you, not just yourself. You are a good hearted hedgehog and I'm simply teaching you what it means to be a good ruler."

Sonic: "But mom… What if I don't want to rule?"

Aleena: "...Sigh… Kiddo, let's not have that discussion right now… Let's not keep Jules waiting…"

Sonic lets out a huff before bidding the reindeer a 'See ya' before joining his mom to the castle. The castle itself was an ice palace, a sculpture made livable by the magic used by mages and the Queen's own ability to use the Mystic Melody. Going through the icy halls, they come to the castle's personal airstrip where another blue hedgehog, taller, older, and with some blonde hair, in pilot's gear stood, standing next to a private jet labeled the 'Hurricane'. Jules bows politely to Aleena, who smiles at him.

Jules: "Good day, your majesty. Taking a trip to the Kingdom of Acorn? If we leave now, we'll be there by the afternoon."

Aleena: "Perfect. That'll be just enough time to make sure everyone shows up. Sonic? You'll be with Princess Sally once we arrive so do try not to make a scene."

Sonic: "Mooom…"

Aleena giggles before petting her son, knowing he wouldn't make any such nonsense. Once they were ready, Jules, Aleena, and Sonic enter the plane and take off once they were strapped in.

High in the skies of Mobius, Jules pilots the plane while taking occasional glances to his VIP attendees to make sure they were comfortable. A couple of flight attendants offered Sonic and Aleena snacks to which they decline, though Aleena did accept a bottle of water.

Sonic: "Hey, mom. Remember when you, me, and other mom would go to a lot more places?"

Aleena lets out a sigh, but being the patient mother she was, she simply places a hand on Sonic's head.

Aleena: "I know I can seem a bit restrictive at times. We don't go to as many places, we don't explore as much, and I tend to be very overprotective… But you have to understand how I felt when Bernie passed away… It's not that I don't miss adventuring… It's just I'd rather not lose my only son…"

Sonic looked away, starting to feel a bit guilty over being a pain to his mother. He was complaining a lot over one simple meeting, but then there was his future. He didn't want to be a king; he wanted to be free and go adventuring. With a heavy sigh, he unbuckled his seatbelt and stood up.

Aleena: "Sonic?"

Sonic: "Sorry, Mom. But meetings… are way too boring for me."

Sonic grabs a parachute and dashes for one of the side doors. With a gesture, he opens it up and gets sucked right out, much to Aleena's panic.

Aleena: "SONIC!"

Aleena takes off her seatbelt and runs to the open door, being careful not to be sucked out herself. She peers down and sees Sonic open his parachute and float down to an island below.

Aleena: "Jules! Turn the jet around! Right now!"

Jules: "I can't do that, ma'am! If I try to force it, it might tear off one of the wings!"

Aleena: "But my son-"

Jules: "Look, I know you worry about him. But he's sixteen; let the boy become a man for once. It's what Bernie would want more than anything."

Aleena looked at Jules, unsure of what to say. She then gritted her teeth before closing the side door and sitting back down.

Aleena: "Ugh… That son of mine is going to be the death of me one of these days… And how am I going to explain this to Sally? The dear's gonna be heartbroken when she finds out Sonic jumped out mid-flight just to do… whatever…"

Jules: "If it makes you feel more at ease, I'll be heading back to the Kingdom of Snow just to check on the Tornado. I'll swing by to pick up Sonic tomorrow before you get home yourself."

Aleena: "That… does help a little…"

The queen just sighs, looking back at the door that Sonic exited through.

Sonic soon lands on the island the jet flew over, taking in the sights in front of him. During his time goofing off, he'd take a moment to study the globe, since he'd love to travel a lot. Judging by the shape of the island he saw from above, he immediately guessed where he was.

Sonic: "South Island. Part of the Four Directional Islands. And judging by the hills, greenery, and rivers… I must be in Green Hills."

Sonic took a deep breath and let out a deep sigh, smiling brightly. Adventure awaited and he was going to enjoy every moment before his mom inevitably picked him up tomorrow. Though as he ran through the landscape, he was unaware of the troubles brewing in the Kingdom of Acorn and what his mother and Sally were enduring while he was relaxing.

The next day rolled around and Sonic woke up with a stretch and a yawn. As he looks around, he suddenly spots some unfamiliar fauna in the distance. A bug-looking creature on a single wheel.

Sonic: "Huh? What's that thing?"

Sonic then saw other strange sights; strange bugs with guns on their ends, piranhas with screws on the sides of their mouths. Sonic's usual laid back personality shifted to serious when he got that feeling something wasn't right. One of the aforementioned bugs immediately spotted him and spoke in a very robotic tone.

Buzzbomber: "Entity detected. Capture protocol engaged."

The bugs turned toward Sonic, extending their hides in order to fire at the hedgehog. Sonic immediately dodges the rather explosive shots before making a dash.

Sonic: "'Capture'? Capture who? Me? Yeah right! You're gonna have to try way harder than th-"

Sonic hears a 'KLANG' as he trips over a Motobug, causing him to face plant into the dirt. But then the gears in his head start to turn as he jumps away from the claws of the Motobug he tripped over.

Sonic: "Guns? A 'klang' sound? Yeah, I'm beginning to think you're not just an invasive species… You guys are just invaders in general!"

Sonic then jumps at the Buzzbombers, rolling into a ball before bashing into them, destroying them with ease. When he did, he saw tiny animals jump out, much to his shock.

Sonic: "Mobinis? Wait… Are you guys controlling these things? Or are you powering them?"

The Mobinis couldn't reliably answer, but given they ran away from the coming reinforcements, Sonic got as clear an answer as he could.

Sonic: "Okay. Now you guys just gave me a reason to get serious."

Sonic ran at the reinforcements, bashing and slicing them open with his Spin Jump technique. Once the tiny animals were freed, Sonic began to feel minor vibrations coming from an area up ahead.

Sonic: "Now what?"

Close by where Sonic was, a battle was occurring as a massive wrecking ball swings from a vehicle very similar to the one Snively used in his fight with Sally and Rosie. In this one though, a red haired, fair skinned girl with blue glasses in a red and yellow dress operated it, a devilish smile on her face as she eyed her opponent. A black furred goat girl with large ram horns, wearing brown shorts, a light green tank top, and brown leather boots. The goat girl scratched the ground as if to prepare to ram at the girl's vehicle, but the girl in the Egg Mobile simply laughs.

Omelette: "Hahaha! What's wrong, little goat? Running out of steam already? I've hardly gotten serious!"

Omelette then eyes a nearby capsule, containing more Mobinis inside it.

Omelette: "And once I deliver these and the Chaos Emerald to Daddy, I'll be praised by him! So do me a favor… And get smashed already!"

The goat girl immediately charged at the wrecking ball being swung in her direction, but this only succeeded in hitting her back on the ground, a crater forming under her feet as she impacted it. She started sweating, running out of breath from how many times she's charged at the wrecking ball trying to break it. Omelette begins to laugh as she readies another swing, but then hears a whistle.

Voice: "Hey, ladies. Mind if I cut in?"

Omelette: "Huh?"

Omelette turns in her seat, seeing Sonic just laying behind her. She yelps and almost falls out of her vehicle from suddenly seeing the blue hedgehog so close to her. The goat girl then sees an opportunity and dashes at the Egg Mobile, smashing the connector between it and the wrecking ball's chain, causing it to disconnect.

Omelette: "No! My precious Egg Wrecker! Daddy made it specifically for me!"

Sonic: "Eh. I don't think 'Daddy' will mind… Especially since I'm sending you straight home."

Omelette then looked up, seeing Sonic suddenly gone. She then hears a whistle, causing her to look down. Sonic gives a 'See ya' smiling gesture before revving up a Spin Dash. Sonic then launches at the Egg Mobile and delivers a hard kick on the bottom, sending it flying high in the sky. Omelette screams out for her papa as her voice fades out. Sonic then bounces over and pressed the convenient button on the top of the capsule, releasing the captured animals. The Mobinis cheer for Sonic as the goat girl approaches him, talking in what could be described as faint Scottish accent.

Goat Girl: "Oi! Blue boy! Thanks for the help there, laddie!"

Sonic: "Huh? Oh it was nothing. I was just at the right place at the right time. Name's Sonic, by the way."

Goat Girl: "Sonic. Heh, nice name. Name's Lam! Sometimes called Lam the Ram! Much as I am grateful, wish you'd shown up sooner. The island's a bit of a mess right now."

Sonic: "Why's that?"

Lam: "Early in the morning yesterday, there was a massive shadow that passed by a little mountain village I live in. We didn't think anything of it at the time, until most of my fellows were taken, leaving me the only one around. The cackling girl started raving about some emerald thing, but all I wanted was my village back."

Sonic listens to this story, crossing his arms before slamming a fist into his palm.

Sonic: "That settles it then. We're gonna rescue your village then."

Lam's ears perk up, almost surprised to hear this.

Lam: "Really? You mean it?"

Sonic: "Yep. And I never go back on my word. I'm seeing to your village's rescue personally."

Lam: "Haha! You are a saint, Sonic! I happen to remember where that big shadow flew off to as well."

Sonic: "Lead on, Lam! We've got a mountain village to save!"

Sonic and Lam give a high five before Lam runs ahead with Sonic following, heading in the direction of the unknown and to Sonic's first truly big adventure…
