Meeting Team Skull and Captain Ilima
The Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy were walking down a road in the southern part of Hau-oli City, looking around when Jimmy began sniffing the air.
"Mmmm. What's that yummy smell?" asked Jimmy. They followed the smell to a shop that has a sign of a white fluffy Pokemon on top of it and images of the Pokemon on the windows.
"Let's go see." said Ed.
"Fine, but let's make it quick. I have Pokemon to catch." said Eddy. They started walking towards the shop.
"Yo, yo, yo, check it!" a voice called out. "Whenever, wherever we meet you, Team Skull don't even greet you!" The Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy stopped to and looked to see two boys dressed in black jerseys that had white X designs around the lower part of them, black baggy shorts, white sneakers, black and white wristbands, black bandanas covering their mouths, white bandanas on their heads that resembles the upper part of skulls and wearing chains with a skull emblem around their necks walking over to them. They look at the Eds amulets.
"Yo, you wanna throw us a bone and hand over those island challenge amulets to us now?" asked one of the boys.
"Who the heck are you?" asked Eddy.
"We're Team Skull." replied the other boy. "Now hand over your amulets."
"No way. Get your own!" yelled Sarah.
"Oh, we have a feisty one here." said one of the Team Skull members. "We don't want an amulet from a twerp like you." Ed glares at him and walks over to him.
"Hey, that's my sister!" yelled Ed. The two boys turned towards Ed.
"Hey." said one boy, tapping the other one's shoulder. "Isn't that Ed from the Lily of the Valley Conference?" The other boy looked at Ed.
"It is." said the boy. He then looks at Edd and Eddy. "And there's Edd and Eddy."
"What are they doing here?" asked one Team Skull member.
"We have island challenge amulets, genius. What do you think we're doing here?" said Eddy.
"You're trying to enter the Alola League?!" exclaimed a boy.
"You bet." said Ed. One Team Skull member turned towards the other.
"You should battle this one." said the Team Skull member, pointing at Ed. "It will make Team Skull more famous if you beat one of the Ed Trio members in a Pokemon battle."
"Yo, that's an awesome idea!" said the other Team Skull member. He turned towards Ed. "How about a Pokemon battle, big guy?" Ed walked towards him.
"Sure." said Ed. The others walked away while Ed and the Team Skull member faced each other.
"Take him down, big brother!" said Sarah.
"I will, baby sister." said Ed, pulling out a pokeball while the Team Skull member takes out a pokeball.
"Yo, let's go, Drowzee!" said the Team Skull member, throwing a pokeball, releasing a bipedal Pokemon with a short trunk that's half yellow and half brown. The Rotom Pokedex flies out of Edd's backpack and in front of the Pokemon.
"Drowzee, the Hypnosis Pokemon. It puts its prey to sleep and devours their dreams. It seems that bad dreams taste sour, so Drowzee doesn't particularly like eating them." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"Go, Rowlet!"said Ed, throwing Rowlet's pokeball and releasing him. "Rowlet, Astonish!" Rowlet flies at Drowzee and stops in front of it while covering his face with his wings. He spreads his wings out quickly, revealing a frightening face at Drowzee, knocking him back, causing super effective. Drowzee covers his face with his arms.
"Good work, Ed. Drowzee is a psychic type Pokemon, so ghost type attacks are super effective against them." said Edd. "And it appears Astonish has caused Drowzee to flinch." The Team Skull member had a nervous look in his eyes.
"Now, Leafage!" said Ed. Rowlet folds his wings and they glowed green. Rowlet then spreads them and unleashes glowing green leaves onto Drowzee, hitting it and knocking it out.
"No way!" yelled the Team Skull member.
"Man, that was wack!" said the other member.
"Way to go, big brother!" cheered Sarah.
"He didn't stand a chance!" said Eddy. The Team Skull member returned Drowzee to its pokeball.
"Should've took on the brat instead." muttered the Team Skull member. He tosses pokedollars at Ed. Ed picks them up.
"Let's beat it!" said the other Team Skull. They both turned and ran as fast as they could.
"And don't mess with us again!" said Sarah.
"You tell them, Sarah." said Jimmy. Just then, they hear the sound of clapping behind them. They turn to see a male with tan skin, pink hair, gray eyes, a light brown sweater vest with a brown diamond pattern circling the bottom half of it, white capri pants and loafers, and a bluish green pouch on the back of his waist.
"That was very impressive." said the man. "I see that the reputation of the Eds is very accurate."
"Uhh; who are you?" asked Eddy.
"Oh, my apologies for not introducing myself." said the man. "My name is Ilima; the Trial Captain here on Melemele Island."
"I am Ed." said Ed.
"My name is Edd also, but with two Ds, so everyone calls me Double-D so as not to confuse me with my friend here." said Edd.
"I'm Eddy." said Eddy.
"I'm Sarah, Ed's younger sister." said Sarah.
"And I'm Sarah's friend, Jimmy." said Jimmy.
"It's a pleasure to meet you all." said Ilima.
"Who were those hoodlums?" asked Edd.
"Those two are members of Team Skull, a gang who are always stealing other people's Pokemon." replied Ilima. Ed frowns in response.
"Did you need help with something?" asked Edd.
"I'm here to test you all to see if you're worthy to take on this island's trial." said Ilima. "Because of the Eds' reputations, I believe that they are more than worthy enough to face the trial. So, I'll test Sarah and Jimmy to see their skills by having Pokemon battles with them."
"Very well." said Edd.
"Who would like to go first?" asked Ilima.
"Ladies first." said Sarah as she steps forward while the Eds and Jimmy wall to a sidewalk to watch.
"This will be a two on two Pokemon battle." said Ilima. Sarah and Ilima each pull out a pokeball.
"Yungoos, go!" said Ilima, throwing a pokeball and releasing a Yungoos.
"Go, Mime Jr!" said Sarah, throwing Mime Jr's pokeball and releasing her. "Mime Jr, Barrier!" Mime Jr waves her arms a square, glass like barrier appears in front of her.
"Good move, Sarah." said Edd.
"What does Barrier do, Double D?" asked Eddy.
"It increases Mr Mime's defense." replied Edd.
"Yungoos, Tackle!" said Ilima. Yungoos charges at Mime Jr and rams her, but she doesn't budge thanks to her increased defense.
"Now use Meditate!" said Sarah. Mime Jr sits on the ground and closes her eyes. She becomes surrounded by a white aura.
"What does that do?" asked Ed.
"It strengthens Mime Jr's attack." replied Edd.
"Use Pursuit!" said Ilima. Yungoos charges at Mime Jr and rams her, knocking her back a little.
"Double Slap!" said Sarah. Mime Jr leaps at Yungoos and slaps it four times. It stumbles back and collapses.
"Looks like you beat Yungoos." said Ilima.
"You were great, Mime Jr." said Sarah.
"Miiime." replied Mime Jr.
"You did it, Sarah!" said Ed.
"You were wonderful." said Jimmy. Ilima returns Yungoos to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Yungoos." said Ilima. He puts Yungoos pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Smeargle, go!" He throws the pokeball and releases a white and brown, bipedal, doglike Pokemon that was holding its tail that resembled a paintbrush.
"What's that Pokemon?" asked Edd. The Rotom Pokedex floats in front of the Pokemon.
"Smeargle, the Painter Pokemon. It draws symbols with the fluid that oozes from the tip of its tail. Depending on the symbol, Smeargle fanatics will pay big money for them." said the Rotom Pokedex. Eddy smiles at the 'big money' part of the description.
"I got to catch myself one of those." said Eddy.
"Smeargle, Ember!" said Ilima. Smeargle unleashes small bits of fire from it mouth and they hit Mime Jr. "Too bad Barrier doesn't increase your Mime Jr's special defense."
"Let's see how Smeargle's defense handles this. Use Confusion!" said Sarah. Mime Jr's eyes glow blue and Smeargle gets knocked back.
"Smeargle, use Ember again!" said Ilima. Smeargle unleashes another Ember and it hits Mime Jr, knocking her out.
"Oh no!" said Sarah.
"I'm afraid Smeargle has beaten Mime Jr." said Ilima.
"Keep going, Sarah." said Ed.
"You can do it." said Jimmy. Sarah returns Mime Jr to her pokeball.
"You did your best, Mime Jr. Chansey will teach that mean Smeargle a lesson." said Sarah. She puts Mime Jr's pokeball away and pulls out Chansey's. "Go, Chansey!" She throws Chansey's pokeball and releases her. "Use Copycat!" Chansey glows blue and she unleashes an Ember attack onto Smeargle, hitting it. Smeargle becomes surrounded by a thin layer of fire.
"Looks like Smeargle is burned." said Edd. Smeargle flinches from its burn.
"Smeargle, Ember!" said Ilima. Smeargle unleashes another Ember and it hits Chansey. She becomes surrounded by fire.
"Oh no. Now Chansey is burned." said Jimmy. Chansey flinches from her burn.
"I got this. Use Refresh!" said Sarah. Chansey began to glow green and the fire around her vanishes.
"Good thinking, Sarah." said Edd.
"What did that move do?" asked Ed.
"It cures a Pokemon of burn, poison, or paralysis." replied Edd.
"Smeargle, Tackle!" said Ilima. Smeargle runs at Chansey and rams her, but not doing much damage due to burn weakening its attack strength.
"Sweet Kiss!" said Sarah. Chansey blows a kiss, releasing a glowing pink heart at Smeagle and hits it. It began stumbling around, confused. "Ha ha. Now Smeargle's confused."
"Smeargle, try using Ember!" said Ilima. Unfortunately for Smeargle, confusion got the better of Smeagle and the embers explode in its mouth, hurting it. It flinches in pain from its burn,
"Pound!" said Sarah. Chansey runs at Smeargle and pounds its head, knocking it out.
"Smeargle!" said Ilima.
"Looks like you won, Sarah." said Edd. Sarah runs to Chansey and hugs her.
"We did it, Chansey!" cheered Sarah.
"Chansey!" said Chansey. The Rotom Pokedex chimed. Edd looks at it.
"It looks like your Chansey now knows Echoed Voice, Sarah." said Edd.
"You mean like your Pikipek knows?" asked Sarah.
"Yes. I think it's good that your Chansey now knows another offensive move." said Sarah. Ilima returns Smeargle to its pokeball.
"You were magnificent." said Ilima. He looks at Sarah.
"After this battle, I think you're ready for the Island Challenge." said Ilima.
"Thanks." replied Sarah. Ilima looks at Jimmy.
"As soon as I get my Pokemon healed, I'll return to test your skills." said Ilima.
"Okay." said Jimmy. Ilima walks off. Sarah returns Chansey to her pokeball and runs off.
"I'm going to the Pokemon Center to heal my Pokemon too." said Sarah.
"Okay, Sarah." said Ed.
"Ed. You should accompany her; you have a responsibility to watch after her." said Edd.
"Oh yeah." said Ed as he runs after Sarah. About twenty minutes later, Ilima and Jimmy were facing each other with the Eds and Sarah watching from the sidewalk. Ilima releases his Yungoos while Jimmy releases his Inkay.
"Yungoos, use Leer!" said Ilima. Yungoos glares at Inkay harshly. A surge of energy rises up from Inkay's body.
"My Inkay has the Contrary ability. It takes any stat-changing move done to her and makes it do the opposite of what it normally would." said Jimmy.
"Yes, Jimmy." said Edd. "Contrary just made Leer increase Inkay's defense instead of lowering it." Ilima was surprised by the revealed fact.
"A mistake on my part I'll admit; one that I won't repeat." said Ilima.
"Inkay, use Constrict!" said Jimmy. Inkay floats towards Yungoos, wraps her tentacles around it, and starts squeezing. Inkay soon releases Yungoos who started looking sluggish.
"Constrict has a chance of lowering the speed of the Pokemon it's used on." said Edd.
"Inkay, use Tackle!" said Jimmy. Inkay floats quickly towards Yungoos and slams into it, sending it flying.
"Yungoos, use Tackle." said Ilima. Yungoos runs at Inkay and rams her, but not doing much damage thanks to Inkay's increased defense after the Leer and Contrary combo.
"Inkay, use Foul Play!" said Jimmy. Inkay grabs Yungoos with his tentacles and quickly slams it into the street, knocking it out.
"You did it, Jimmy!" said Sarah. Jimmy smiles in response. Ilima returns his Yungoos to its pokeball.
"You battled well, Yungoos." said Ilima. He puts Yungoos' pokeball away and pulls out another pokeball and throws it, releasing his Smeargle from it. "Smeargle, use Ember!" Smeargle releases bits of fire from his mouth, hitting her.
"Hurry, Inkay! Use Constrict!" said Jimmy. Inkay floats at Smeargle and squeezes it with her tenacles. Smeargle looked sluggish after that.
"Now Smeargle's speed is decreased." said Edd.
"Smeargle, use Ember once more!" said Ilima. Smeargle releases another Ember attack from its mouth and hits Inkay and knocks her out. "Looks like Smeargle wins." Jimmy returns Inkay to her pokeball.
"You did your best, Inkay." said Jimmy. He returns Inkay's pokeball to his pocket and pulls out another one. He throws it and releases his Lucario from it.
"Where did you get a Lucario?" asked Ilima. Jimmy explained how the Eds brought him a Pokemon egg back from Sinnoh and gave it to him, only for it to hatch into a Riolu; then how he evolved into Lucario just recently. "That's quite the interesting story."
"And Lucario's story isn't over." said Jimmy. "Lucario, use Metal Claw!" Lucario leaps at Smeargle with the spike on one of his knuckles extending and slashes Smeargle across its torso. Lucario suddenly had a surge of energy rising from him.
"Looks like Metal Claw increased Lucario's attack power." said Edd.
"Hurry, Smeargle! Use Ember!" said Ilima. Smeargle releases another Ember at Lucario, hitting it and doing super effective damage.
"Careful, Jimmy. Lucario is part steel type. Fire attacks are very effective against those." said Edd.
"Well we won't give up! Right, Lucario?" asked Jimmy. Lucario looks back at Jimmy and nods. "Let's try your new Aura Sphere attack!" Lucario holds out his hand and launches an orb of blue energy from it. It hits Smeargle and does super effective damage to it and knocks it out.
"You did it, Jimmy!" said Sarah.
"Yay!" cheered Jimmy. Ilima returns Smeargle to its pokeball.
"You did well, Smeargle." said Ilima. He walks over to Jimmy and looks at him, then at Sarah. "You two have proven your strength and have earned the right to face the Melemele Island Trial."
"We did it, Jimmy!" said Sarah as she and Jimmy hugged.
"The Island Trial will be in the Verdant Cavern on Route 3. I'll be waiting for you five there." said Ilima.
"Sweet!" said Eddy. They all head to the Pokemon Center so Jimmy and Ilima can heal their Pokemon. While they waited, Edd was looking at his Rotom Phone's map.
"Route 3 is after Route 2 which is just outside the north part of Hau'oli City." said Edd.
"Oh boy!" said Ed. With Sarah and Jimmy's victories over Ilima, they can now challenge the island's trial with the Eds and move one step closer to competing in the Alola League Junior Divison. What new Pokemon will they encounter along the way?
