Mantine Surfing and Akala Island
The Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy entered the Hau'oli City Pokemon Center. They gave the nurse their Pokemon to be treated. While they waited, Sarah and Jimmy walked to the PokeMart. Sarah sold the Nugget she found in Ten Carat Hill for 5,000 pokedollars. She bought five pokeballs and five Potions with some of the money. Jimmy sold his Star Piece for 4,900, then bought five pokeballs and potions as well. After a while, the nurse returned their Pokemon to them. The group then exited the Pokemon Center. It was time to say goodbye to Melemele Island.
"Melemele Island was nice, but now that we've completed all the trials here, we have no reason to stay." said Edd.
"I hope this Akala Island has beaches and babes too." said Eddy.
"I wonder what Pokemon are there." said Ed.
"Hopefully some cute ones." said Sarah. The group then walked south of the Pokemon Center until they reached the marina. As they got to the marina, Professor Kukui and Lillie arrived.
"Excellent timing. I've got the old girl all ready to set sail." said Professor Kukui, motioning towards a boat on the dock of the marina.
"Splendid. Shall we get going?" asked Edd.
"Wait a minute, I thought we were surfing on Mantines to Akala Island!" exclaimed Eddy.
"Yeah, I want to surf on a Mantine." said Ed.
"It looks like so much fun." said Jimmy.
"Oh my, I have forgotten." said Edd. He turns to Professor Kukui. "Professor, would it be okay if we meet you and Lillie on Akala Island? We did plan to Mantine Surf to Akala Island."
"Certainly, Double D. The island challenge is all about journeying with Pokemon, after all." said Professor Kukui.
"Thank you, Professor." said Edd. "We'll meet you two on Akala Island." Lillie walks to Edd, avoiding eye contact, but blushing.
"I'll see you later, Double D." said Lillie.
"I'll see you later as well, Lillie." said Edd, looking away, blushing. Professor Kukui and Lillie walk to the boat and climb aboard. As the boat sailed away, Edd turns towards the others. "I feel before we head to Big Wave Beach, we should change into our swimming attire as I feel they would be more suitable for surfing. Sarah, Jimmy, did you bring yours?"
"You bet. We were going to a tropical paradise after all, so me and Jimmy assumed we'd be doing some swimming." replied Sarah. The group return to the Pokemon Center where the boys went to the male shower area while Sarah went to the females shower area to change. Minutes later, the Eds exited the room, wearing the trunks they got back in Sinnoh, and Jimmy was wearing white swim trunks. Sarah exited the female shower area wearing her one-piece swimsuit. The group then exited the Pokemon Center. Soon, they arrived at Big Wave Beach. They walked to the shore where several Mantines were floating and near them was the girl Ed helped with Team Skull.
"Oh, hello." said the girl.
"Hi." replied Ed.
"So how did you do with the trials?" asked the girl. The group pull their passports out of their backpacks and showed her the stamps Kahuna Hala put on them.
"We have passed our trials." said Edd.
"Congratulations. Our Mantines would be thrilled to have some able trainers like you riding them." said the girl. She then leads them to a rack of life vests and surf helmets. "Before you get onto the Mantines, I would like you to put on these helmets and life vests. Even though you seem like you're capable of swimming, we take the safety of all Mantine Surfers into consideration."
"Thank you." said Edd. The Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy each grab a surf helmet and life vest and put them on.
"Okay, now just introduce yourselves to the Mantine and they'll let you climb on." said the girl. Ed, Edd, Eddy, Sarah, and Jimmy each walk to a Mantine.
"Hi." Ed said to a Mantine.
"Greetings." Edd says to another Mantine.
"Hey." Eddy says to another Mantine.
"Hi." Sarah says to another Mantine.
"Hello." Jimmy says to a Mantine. The Mantines turn around to allow them to climb onto them.
"Perhaps we should practice a little before trying to head to Akala Island." suggested Edd.
"Yeah, that wouldn't be such a bad idea." said Eddy. "We've never done Mantine Surfing before, let alone regular surfing." Everyone got onto a Mantine, and began practicing riding on them. They spent about an hour doing so, keeping their balances while moving at increasing speeds, until they felt confident enough to try making it to Akala Island. The girl showed the group instructions that had two Mantine Surfing moves called the Huntail Spiral and the Gorebyss Spiral.
"Cool!" said Ed.
"And be careful not to bump into any water Pokemon as you're surfing." said the girl.
"Thanks for warning us." said Edd. Soon they were facing the direction Akala Island is supposed to be in. "Is everyone ready?"
"Yeah!" said Ed.
"You bet I am." said Eddy.
"I can't wait!" said Jimmy.
"Me, neither." said Sarah.
"Then let's be on our way." said Edd. Everyone then starts riding their Mantines towards Akala Island, having fun, and Ed and Eddy were doing the moves they learned.
"This is so cool!" said Ed after doing a Huntail Spiral.
"Yes. This is actually quite exhilarating." said Edd.
"I'm loving this!" said Eddy as he does a Gorebyss Spiral.
"Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" cheered Jimmy and Sarah. Five minutes later, they see Akala Island up ahead.
"We're almost there." said Edd. They soon reached a beach known as Heahea Beach. They all got off their Mantines and thanked them for the rides. After the Mantines left, the group gave their life vests and helmets to an employee who was working the Mantine Surf Spot there. "Well, everyone. We've finally arrived on Akala Island."
"I can't wait to see all the Pokemon here." said Ed.
"Me, too." said Sarah.
"Hey, it's the Eds!" they hear someone shout. They turn to see a black-haired, teenage girl in a black, two-piece swimsuit, pointing at them. Soon, people were running over to them. Eddy smiles when he sees some of them were girls in bikinis. They all surrounded the Eds, asking for autographs, which Eddy was more than happy to do. As they do, Jimmy looks at Sarah.
"Oh, Sarah, I hope we do good in the Junior's Division so we can be popular like the Eds." said Jimmy.
"Me, too, Jimmy." said Sarah. After the Eds were done, they all walked to a nearby city.
"So where are we, Double-D?" asked Eddy. Edd pulls out the Rotom Pokedex, and pulls out the map.
"This place is called Heahea City." said Edd. They went to the first Pokemon Center to change back into their regular attire, as well as have some lunch. Just then, an announcement was heard on the PA system.
"Would Edward please report to the front lobby?" said the nurse's voice. "You have a phone call."
"A phone call?" replied Edd.
"Maybe it's your parents checking up on you?" suggested Sarah.
"Could be." said Edd. He then gets out of his seat and walks to the lobby. The rest of the group waits for a few minutes before Edd came back with a stunned look on his face, which everyone notices.
"What's wrong, Double-D?" asked Ed.
"My parents just told me that the Kankers escaped from the Lemon Brook Juvenile Detention Center." Edd said with dread in his voice, shocking the others.
"KANKERS?!" responded Eddy.
"This is bad! This is very bad!" said Ed. Jimmy and Sarah held each other with looks of terror on their faces.
"If they find out we're here, they'll find a way to get here and they'll bring us back to Peach Creek!" exclaimed Eddy.
"But I don't want to go back yet!" exclaimed Ed. "I want to catch more Pokemon and compete in the Alola League!"
"But don't worry, they're not coming here to Alola." said Edd.
"How do you know?" asked Eddy.
"Well, while we were here, another Pokemon professor named Professor Birch from another Pokemon region called Hoenn, called my parents with an invitation for the three of us to compete in the Pokemon League there." said Edd.
"Hoenn?" replied Sarah.
"Isn't that one of the Pokemon regions you pointed out to us the other day?" asked Jimmy.
"Yes." said Edd. "During the conversation, the Kankers broke into my home and attacked my parents."
"Are they okay?" asked Ed.
"My dad's arm is a little sore, but he'll be fine." said Edd. "So, to continue, the Kankers found out we were on another Pokemon journey and tried making my parents tell them where we were."
"I'm guessing your parents didn't tell them we were here since they're not on their way here." said Eddy.
"Correct. They felt the Kankers would ruin our journey if they came here." said Edd. "My parents remembered the invitation we were offered from Professor Birch and told the Kankers we were in Hoenn. In fact, Professor Birch already sent a plane to take us there. So, my parents told them about it, and the Kankers are currently on their way to the Hoenn Region." Ed, Eddy, Sarah, and Jimmy let out sighs of relief.
"At least they're not coming here." said Eddy.
"What a relief." said Sarah.
"I still sometimes have nightmares after what they did to us while you were in Sinnoh." said Jimmy with fear in his voice.
"Hopefully the Kankers will find Pokemon more interesting than us." said Edd. The group then continued eating. After lunch, they exited the Pokemon Center to continue their journey. As soon as the Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy stepped out of the Pokemon Center, they hear someone calling out to them.
"Eds, Sarah, Jimmy." They turned to see Professor Kukui and Lillie with Nebby floating near her, standing near a marina.
"Hello, Professor Kukui." said Edd. He then smiles lovingly at Lillie. "Hello, Lillie."
"Hello, Double D." said Lillie.
"So how was your trip on the Mantines?" asked Professor Kukui.
"It was the funnest thing ever!" replied Ed.
"It sure was." said Sarah.
"That's what I like to hear." said Professor Kukui.
"Still haven't managed to find a shirt that goes with your lab coat, Professor Kukui?" they hear someone call out. They turned to see a dark-skinned woman with black hair, wearing a light pink top, dark pink shorts, light pink sandal heels, several anklets around both ankles and a Z-Ring and bracelets on her left arm. With her was a tan-skinned girl with long green hair kept in twin tails, wearing a pink tank top, light gray overalls, green and white shoes, and a green strap that held a fake pink flower around her head, both walking over to them. Lillie turns towards Nebby.
"Nebby, get in the bag, quick." said Lillie.
"Don't worry, Lillie." said Professor Kukui. Soon the woman and girl were standing near them.
"Hello, nice to meet you. I'm Olivia." said the woman, now identified as Olivia.
"I'm Mallow. I'm one of the captains here." said the girl, now identified as Mallow.
"Greetings." said Edd.
"Hey." said Eddy.
"Hi." said Sarah.
"Hello." said Jimmy. Ed, on the other hand was looking at Mallow with his mouth opened a little. Mallow looks at Ed and smiles at him, waving. A loving smile appeared on Ed's face, and he waves at her.
"When I heard the Eds from the Lily of the Valley Conference were seen at Heahea Beach, I just had to come here to meet them." said Olivia. "I ran into Mallow when she was out on a delivery."
"Are you okay, Mallow?" asked Ed.
"Ed, Olivia didn't literally mean 'run into her', literally." said Edd.
"I'm okay, Ed." said Mallow. "You know, I saw you at the Lily of the Valley Conference on TV and I was impressed with your Torterra. You did an excellent job training it."
"Thanks, Mallow." said Ed.
"My trial will be a chance for all the fine ingredients that make up your team to shine." said Mallow. "You all look ready to cook with gas."
"Mallow isn't the only captain here on Akala Island." said Olivia. "So, what's your plan?"
"That's up to these kids. It's their island challenge after all." said Professor Kukui. Olivia and Mallow had surprised looks on their faces.
"Really? The Eds are doing the island challenge?" asked Olivia.
"You bet we are." said Eddy. Professor Kukui motions at Sarah and Jimmy.
"And these two are doing the island challenge also to compete in the Alola League Juniors Division." said Professor Kukui. He motions at Jimmy. "This is Jimmy." He then motions at Sarah. "And this is Sarah. She's Ed's little sister."
"Wow. You're Ed's sister?" asked Mallow.
"You bet I am." replied Sarah.
"Well, I hope you all and your Pokemon enjoy your time on Akala Island." said Oliva. "I'll be waiting to face you in battle when the time comes. I'm looking forward to seeing what you got." Olivia turns towards Mallow. "Let's go, Mallow." Mallow smiles and waves at them. The group waves at her back, especially Ed, who waves at her with a loving smile on his face. Mallow turns and runs off. Everyone but Ed stopped waving at her. Eddy turns towards Ed.
"Ed, you can stop waving now." said Eddy. Ed stopped waving. Professor Kukui walks in front of the group.
"There are three trials here on Akala Island." said Professor Kukui. "If you keep going down Route 4 and keep going until you reach Paniola Town."
"I'm going to do some shopping here in Heahea City, and then I'm going to find out more about the ruins for Nebby's sake." said Lillie. Professor Kukui and Lillie parted from the Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy.
"Can we get going now?" asked Eddy.
"Yes. Let us proceed with our journey everyone." said Edd. The group travelled down the road while Ed was smiling, thinking about Mallow.
