Okay, I wanted to try something a little different with this chapter: It's going to be someone's homework assignment. You'll see what I mean.

Leaf's New Year Resolutions

Grade Four

Leaf (9), Dawn (9), Drew (9), Ash (9), Misty (9), May (9), Gary (9), Paul (10)

Name: Leaf Green

Date: Monday, January 7

Homework Assignment: It's good to make a list of goals for the new year. Make a list of your New Year Resolutions, and update your progress on them every two days starting with January 8. Hand in your report on January 21st to see how much you accomplished in just two weeks!

Leaf's Resolutions:

1. Get to know Dawn more. We haven't hung out enough.

2. Do stuff Drew likes. When we play with all our friends, we do stuff I want or someone else wants. Drew doesn't tell us what he wants to do that much.

3. Go to Ash's house more. I always go to Gary's or Misty's, but I wanna play with Ash more too.

4. Beat Misty's skip rope record.

5. Partner up with May for the next group project! I don't partner up with her for assignments and stuff that much.

6. Be nicer to Gary. Sometimes I'm a little mean when we get competitive, and my mom says it's not good.

7. Don't annoy Paul for fun anymore.

Entry 1: Tuesday, January 8

1. Dawn talks more than me. I didn't get to ask her anything.

2. I didn't get a chance to do stuff Drew likes.

3. I didn't have time to go to Ash's house. I had homework. But I went to Gary's house to do homework instead, and we played a game when we were done. Maybe I shoulda asked Ash if I could go to his house instead.

4. I didn't beat Misty's record yet, but I think I'm gonna soon!

5. We didn't get any partner projects yet, so I couldn't do one with May.

6. I didn't say anything mean to Gary yesterday and all of today, even when I won at Ekans and Ladders. It was kind of boring not saying I won at the end.

7. I didn't annoy Paul, but he didn't look any different from usual to me.

Entry 2: Thursday, January 10

1. Dawn still won't stop talking! I'm not getting any chances to ask her questions about herself and get to know her more!

2. When we were gonna play, I asked what Drew wants to play so I could make everyone else do what he wanted, but he said he was fine with whatever, so I didn't get to.

3. I was gonna ask Ash if we could go to his house to do homework, but I forgot.

4. I didn't get to skip with Misty today because we didn't have free time in gym and it's snowy outside.

5. We had to do a class thing with a partner, and I was gonna ask May, but she asked Dawn first.

6. I accidentally called Gary dumb-hair, but then I remembered my resolutions and said sorry. He looked at me really weird and didn't say it's okay.

7. I tried to talk to Paul without being annoying but he still acted a little annoyed.

Entry 3: Saturday, January 12

1. I didn't see Dawn today.

2. I didn't see Drew today.

3. I went to Ash's house, but we didn't know what to play, so it was kinda boring. So we went to play with Misty, so it wasn't like having fun at Ash's house.

4. It was too cold to skip outside, and Misty's sisters were doing stuff all over the house, so we couldn't find a place to skip. And if we had, Ash would've been left out 'cause he doesn't skip much.

5. I didn't see May today.

6. I went to Ash's house instead of Gary, so I didn't see Gary much today.

7. I didn't see Paul today.

Entry 4: Monday, January 14

1. I accidentally yelled at Dawn to be quiet for once because I wanted to ask her something, and when she did and asked me what, it was too weird to ask normal questions since I'd yelled, so I didn't say anything, and I think Dawn is mad at me now.

2. I don't think Drew likes it when I keep asking him if there's something he wants to do. He doesn't say he's annoyed, but he keeps telling me that he's okay with what everyone's doing and I don't have to ask all the time.

3. I was thinking if I should ask Ash if I can come over again, but it was really boring last time, and we didn't do much together, so I didn't.

4. Misty tripped when we were skipping and hurt her foot, and now we can't even do a skipping contest.

5. I got to be partners with May for class work, but May didn't get some of the stuff, so I did all of it instead. It didn't feel like working together.

6. I don't know why, but Gary said something's wrong with me and I'm no fun to play with anymore. He got really annoyed when we were playing a game at his house yesterday too.

7. I think Paul thinks talking to me is annoying.

Entry 5: Wednesday, January 16

1. I tried to say sorry to Dawn, but I didn't get a chance. She was acting normal to me yesterday and today, though, so I don't think she's still mad at me.

2. I'm trying to figure out what Drew likes that I can make everyone do so we'd do something he likes. So far, I didn't find out anything.

3. I asked Ash if I can come over, but he said maybe not today. I think he just doesn't want to be bored with me again.

4. Misty's foot is still hurt, so we didn't get to skip together.

5. I want to try to work with May again, but we didn't get any partner project yesterday, and today, she asked Dawn again.

6. Gary won't even play with me anymore! He's saying I'm too boring now!

7. I'm trying not to talk to Paul too much so I don't annoy him.

Entry 6: Friday, January 18

1. I finally got to tell Dawn I want to hang out more. I think she purposely made sure I had a chance to talk to her 'cause of how I'd yelled at her before.

2. I asked Drew if there's something he'd like to do so we can do it next time, and I told him it's because I don't know if he's having fun. He said he really doesn't mind doing what everyone's doing and he does have fun. He said he also likes doing quiet, relaxing stuff by himself or with one friend sometimes. We decided to hang out and do something this weekend, just the two of us.

3. I asked Ash if I can come over again, and he said his house is too boring and we should go to someone else's. He said he doesn't mind if I don't come over as often, and he always thinks having fun with friends is great no matter where we are.

4. Misty's foot is getting better. We might get to do more skipping!

5. I asked May if we can partner up next week 'cause I wanted to try working with her again. She said okay.

6. I made Gary tell me why he won't play with me. I was a little mean about it, though. He said he likes it more when I'm competitive like I used to be. I promised that I will be now. I don't think I'm doing this resolution anymore.

7. I didn't talk to Paul much for three days, but today, he talked to me. He didn't say much, but he asked why I was acting different. When I told him I was trying not to annoy him, he said, "Why? You're not Drew, so don't act like him." I think he actually likes it when I annoy him a little after all.

Entry 7: Sunday, January 20

1. I had a sleepover at Dawn's house last night. It was a lot of fun! We braided each other's hair and stuff, and it was never boring because she always had something to say.

2. I met with Drew at a restaurant and we had lunch together. We didn't talk much, but it was nice. Drew said he had a lot of fun, but he didn't look different from usual, so I guess he actually does have fun when we do other people's stuff when we're all together.

3. I went to Ash's house, but not inside because he was waiting for me outside. We then got Misty and all went to Gary's house.

4. Misty's foot got all better. I still couldn't beat her record, but it was a lot of fun - even Ash tried!

5. I didn't see May today, but Misty said she heard someone say there's gonna be a big project next week. I'll get to do it with May!

6. Gary and I played on Saturday and today, and because I'm not doing this resolution anymore, it was a lot more fun.

7. I didn't see Paul today, but I don't think he minds when I bother him a little, so I'm not doing this resolution anymore either.
