Santalune City Gym
Kevin, Rolf, and Jonny entered Santalune City and they went straight to the Pokemon Center to get their Pokemon treated after their training. They went to the cafeteria for lunch. Soon, their food came and they began eating.
"Boy, training Pokemon really builds up an appetite, huh, guys?" said Jonny before taking a bite out of a sandwich.
"Yes it does, Jonny the Wood Boy." replied Rolf before taking a bite out of a triple cheeseburger. Kevin takes a bite out of a hot dog.
"So. Which one of us is going to take on the gym leader here first?" asked Kevin. They decided to settle it with a three way rock, paper, scissors. After almost a minute, Jonny's scissors beats Kevin and Rolf's paper.
"Right on! I get to battle the gym leader first!" cheered Jonny.
"Congratulations, man." said Kevin. "You mind if we watch your gym battle?"
"Sure, Kevin." replied Jonny. After they finished eating, they went to the nurse and picked up their Pokemon.
"Oh, boys. Your identifications cards are complete." said the nurse, holding out Jonny, Kevin, and Rolf's id cards.
"Awesome." said Kevin as he takes the id cards and giving Rolf and Jonny theirs. The nurse also takes out three badge cases.
"And here are your badge cases." said the nurse. Kevin, Jonny, and Rolf each take one.
"I guess we keep our badges in these things for safe keeping." said Kevin.
"Thank you, miss." said Jonny.
"You're very welcome." replied the nurse. The boys left the Pokemon Center. After a minute of walking, they find themselves in front of the Santalune City Gym.
"Well, Plank, this is where I'm going to get my first badge." said Jonny. The group then entered the gym. Once inside, they were surprised to see that there was what appeared to be an indoor forest. In the middle was appeared to be an infloor battle arena that had a short stairway going down each end of it. The boys looked around. "Hello? Is anyone here?"
"I'm here." said a female voice. They look to see a young woman walking out from behind a tree. She had blonde hair, wore a white vest, greyish-green pants, a white belt, brown boots, and had a camera around her neck. "Hello. Are any of you boys here for a gym battle?"
"Yep." replied Jonny.
"I take it you're the gym leader then?" said Kevin.
"I am. My name is Viola." said the woman, now identified as Viola.
"What's with the camera?" asked Kevin.
"I may be a gym leader, but even we have hobbies." replied Viola. "And mine happens to be photography."
"I'm here to battle you, miss Viola." said Jonny.
"You can just call me Viola, and I accept your challenge." said Viola. Jonny turns towards Kevin.
"Can you hold on to Plank for me, Kevin?" asked Jonny. Kevin takes Plank.
"Whatever." said Kevin. Viola and Jonny both walk down the steps onto the arena and Jonny stood on one end of it while Viola walked over to the other end of it, and Kevin and Rolf stood on the outside of it. A girl, acting as a referee stood on one side of the arena.
"This is an official gym battle between Viola the gym leader and Jonny the challenger." said the referee. "Each side will use only two Pokemon. The battle will end when one trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle. Let the match begin." Viola takes out a pokeball.
"Go, Surskit!" said Viola, throwing the pokeball and releasing a light blue, round Pokemon with four long skinny legs. Jonny takes out the pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Surskit, the Pond Skater Pokemon. It appears as if its skating on water. It draws prey with a sweet scent from the tip of its head." said the pokedex. Jonny takes out a pokeball.
"Come out, Zigzagoon!" said Jonny as he throws Zigzagoon's pokeball and releases him. Zigzagoon and Surskit face each other.
"Surskit, Quick Attack!" said Viola. The Surskit slides towards Zigzagoon with incredible speed and rams into him, knocking him back.
"Zigzagoon, use Headbutt!" said Jonny. Zigzagoon rams his head onto Surskit while it was near him, knocking it back. "Now use Tail Whip!" Zigzagoon runs at Surskit and wags his tail onto it, weakening its defense.
"Surskit, use Bubble!" said Surskit. Surskit releases bubbles from its body and they hit Zigzagoon. "Now use Quick Attack!" Surskit slides on the floor with incredible speed and rams Zigzagoon.
"Headbutt one more time!" said Jonny. Zigzagoon rams Surskit with his head again, doing more damage due to Surskit's defense being weakened by Tail Whip. Surskit gets sent flying back and falls to the floor with swirly eyes.
"Surskit is unable to battle. Zigzagoon wins." said the referee.
"Great work, Zigzagoon." said Jonny.
"Zigzagoon!" cheered Zigzagoon. Viola returns Surskit to its pokeball.
"You did well, Surskit." said Viola. She puts Surskit's pokeball away and pulls out another pokeball. "Come on out, Vivillon!" She throws the pokeball and releases a butterfly-like Pokemon.
"What is that?" asked Jonny. He points the pokedex and the pokemon.
"Vivillon, the Scale Pokemon, and the final form of Scatterbug. The patterns on this Pokemon's wings depend on the climate and topography of its habitat. It scatters colorful scales." said the pokedex.
"I guess my Spewpa will evolve into that someday." said Kevin.
"You still okay to battle, Zigzagoon?" asked Jonny. Zigzagoon nods.
"Vivillon, Infestation!" said Viola. Vivillon spreads its wings and unleashes what appeared to be buzzing black specks from its wings and onto Zigzagoon, damaging him.
"Zigzagoon, Tail Whip!" said Jonny. Zigzagoon leaps at Vivillon and wags his tail onto it, weakening its defense. Infestation suddenly does damage to Zigzagoon. "What's going on?"
"Infestation will continue to hurt Zigzagoon while Vivillon can still do other attacks on it." replied Viola. Jonny looks at Zigzagoon.
"Are you okay, Zigzagoon?" asked Jonny.
"It won't be after this. Vivillon, Tackle!" said Viola. Vivillon flies at Zigzagoon and rams him, knocking him to the ground, unconscious.
"Zigzagoon!" exclaimed Jonny.
"Zigzagoon is unable to battle. Vivillon is the winner." said the referee.
"Way to to, Vivillon." said Viola. Vivillon does an aerial spin. Jonny returns Zigzagoon to his pokeball.
"I'm proud of you, Zigzagoon." said Jonny. He puts Zigzagoon's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Let's go, Butterfree!" He throws Butterfree's pokeball and releases her.
"You have a Butterfree?" asked Viola.
"Yep." replied Jonny.
"Looks like it's going to be an aerial battle between two bug Pokemon." said Viola.
"Sounds pretty cool." said Jonny. Viola smirks in response. "Butterfree, use Tackle!"
"You use Tackle too, Vivillon!" said Viola. Butterfree and Vivillon fly towards each other and ram each other. Vivillon received more damage due to its defense being weakened by Zigzagoon earlier.
"Butterfree, Poison Powder!" said Jonny. Butterfree flaps her wings and unleashes a purple powder onto Vivillon. It turned purple under Vivillon's eyes, indicating Vivillon's poisoning.
"Vivillon, Tackle!" said Viola. Vivillon flies at Butterfree and rams her, knocking her back. Vivillon coughs from its poisoning, losing a bit of stamina.
"Butterfree, Confusion!" said Jonny. Butterfree's eyes glow light purple and Vivillon becomes surrounded by a light purple glow and gets slammed onto the arena floor.
"Vivillon, Infestation!" said Viola. Vivillon flies up from the floor unleashes another Infestation attack onto Butterfree, damaging her. Vivillon coughs and loses a bit more stamina from its poisoning while Butterfree recieves a little more damage from Infestation.
"Tackle, Butterfree!" said Jonny. Butterfree flies at Vivillon and rams it, landing a critical hit. Vivillon falls onto the arena floor with swirly eyes.
"Vivillon, no!" said Viola.
"Vivillon is unable to battle. Butterfree wins. The winner of this gym battle is the challenger, Jonny." said the referee.
"We did it!" cheered Jonny, jumping up and raising a fist into the air. Butterfree flies over to Jonny. "You were great, Butterfree." Kevin and Rolf run over to Jonny with Kevin giving Plank back to Jonny.
"Way to go, man!" cheered Kevin.
"Rolf is proud of you, Jonny." said Rolf. Jonny puts his ear against Plank's mouth.
"Thanks, buddy." said Jonny. Viola returns Vivillon to its pokeball.
"You were incredible, Vivillon." said Viola. She puts Vivillon's pokeball away and walks over to Jonny.
"You trained your Pokemon well, Jonny." said Viola.
"Thanks, Viola." said Jonny. Viola reaches into her pocket and pulls out a beetle-shaped badge.
"As proof of your victory here, I present you with the Bug Badge." said Viola. Jonny takes it, along with pokedollars.
"I just won my first badge!" said Jonny.
"Way to go, Jonny." said Kevin. Viola turns towards Kevin and Rolf.
"So, which one of you will be battling me next?" asked Viola. Rolf steps forward.
"Rolf will battle you, miss." said Rolf.
"As soon as I get my Pokemon healed, we will have our battle." said Viola. She walks towards the entrance.
"I'm going to get my Pokemon healed too, guys." said Jonny. He runs off after Viola. Once Jonny exits the gym, he follows after Viola to the Pokemon Center. As he does, he hears a familiar voice calling out to him.
"Hey, Jonny!" the voice calls out. Jonny looks to where the voice was coming from and was surprised to see Nazz running over to him.
"Nazz?!" exclaimed Jonny.
"I'm so glad I found you!" said Nazz.
"What are you doing here?" asked Jonny.
"It was lonely back in Peach Creek without you guys around or the Eds, so I asked my parents if I can come here so I can join up with you, Kevin, and Rolf; and they gave me permission." said Nazz.
"That's so cool!" said Jonny.
"So, what have you been up to?" asked Nazz. Jonny pulls out his new Bug Badge and shows it to Nazz.
"I just won my first gym badge." said Jonny.
"You mean like the ones that the Eds have in those badge case things?" asked Nazz.
"Yeah. I just need seven more to compete in the Kalos League." said Jonny.
"Congratulations, Jonny." said Nazz.
"Thanks, Nazz." said Jonny.
"So where are Kevin and Rolf?" asked Nazz. Jonny points towards the Santalune Gym.
"They're in there." said Jonny.
"What's that place?" asked Nazz.
"That's the Pokemon Gym where I won my gym badge." said Jonny.
"Oh." said Nazz.
"Well, I have to go to the Pokemon Center and get my Pokemon treated. They had a long day." said Jonny.
"Okay. I'll meet you at the gym later." said Nazz. Jonny nods and runs off to the Pokemon Center. Back at the Santalune Gym, Rolf was stretching in anticipation for his gym battle.
"Don't sweat it, Rolf. You know what Pokemon that Viola has and some of their moves." said Kevin.
"Yes. Rolf can't wait for his gym battle." said Rolf. As Kevin stands around, he feels someone tapping his shoulder. He turns around and was surprised to see Nazz smiling at him.
"Nazz?!" said Kevin. Rolf looks over and was also surprised to see Nazz.
"Hello, Nazz girl!" said Rolf.
"Hey, guys." said Nazz.
"What are you doing here?" asked Kevin. Nazz goes on to tell Kevin and Rolf what he told Jonny over a minute ago.
"So what are you guys up to?" asked Nazz.
"We're waiting for the gym leader to come back for Rolf's gym battle." said Kevin.
"Cool. Mind if I watch, Rolf?" asked Nazz.
"Rolf does not mind." replied Rolf. A few minutes later, Jonny and Viola come back. As Viola goes out onto the arena floor, she notices Nazz.
"Who is this?" asked Viola.
"This is Nazz. A friend of ours from back home." said Kevin.
"Oh. Well, it's nice to meet you." said Viola.
"Thanks." said Nazz as she and Viola shake hands. While Viola was going to her side of the arena, Nazz remembers the Flabebe she caught and pulls out her Great Ball, surprising Kevin and Jonny.
"Where'd you get that?" asked Kevin.
"I found it between Lumiose City and here." said Nazz. She then throws the Great Ball, releasing her Flabebe from it, surprising Jonny, Rolf, and Kevin.
"You caught a Pokemon?!" asked Kevin.
"Actually, she caught herself." said Nazz who goes on to explain what happened on Route 4. Jonny takes out the pokedex from his pocket which Nazz notices. "What's that?"
"It's our pokedex. We got it yesterday from Professor Sycamore." said Jonny.
"It doesn't look like the Eds' pokedex." said Nazz.
"Pokedexes from each region look different from one another." explained Kevin. Jonny holds the pokedex out to Nazz.
"Wanna try it?" asked Jonny.
"Sure, Jonny." said Nazz as she takes the pokedex from Jonny's hand.
"Just hold it out towards Flabebe." said Jonny. Nazz does so and was surprised when it slides open by itself and an image of Flabebe appears on it.
"Flabebe, the Single Bloom Pokemon. When it finds a flower it likes, it dwells on that flower its whole life long. It floats in the wind's embrace with an untroubled heart." said the pokedex.
"This is so cool." said Nazz. Kevin looks at Flabebe's information.
"Okay. This says that Flabebe's a girl, she knows Tackle, Vine Whip, and Fairy Wind; and she has the Flower Veil ability which protects any grass type Pokemon she's battling alongside with from having their stats lowered." said Kevin.
"Whoa." said Nazz.
"Guys. Looks like the battle's about to begin." said Jonny. Kevin and Nazz look out and see that Viola and Rolf each have a pokeball in their hands. The referee steps out onto the arena.
"This is an official gym battle between Viola the gym leader and Rolf the challenger." said the referee. "Each side will use only two Pokemon. The battle will end when one trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle. Let the match begin." Viola throws her pokeball, releasing her Surskit; Rolf throws his pokeball, releasing his Pidgey.
"What Pokemon are those?" asked Nazz as she points the pokedex at the two Pokemon and learns about them.
"Surskit, you use Quick Attack!" said Viola. Surskit moves towards Pidgey at fast speed and slams into her.
"Pidgey, use Tackle!" said Rolf. Pidgey flies at Surskit and slams into it.
"Hurry, Surskit. Use Bubble!" said Viola. Surskit releases a bunch of bubbles which hit Pidgey. Pidgey's feathers were soaked which seems to be slowing her down.
"Rolf will not give up! Use Gust!" said Rolf. Pidgey flaps her wings and unleashes a strong gust of wind which hits Surskit, sending it flying into a wall and knocks it out.
"Surskit is unable to battle. Pidgey is the winner." said the referee. Kevin, Jonny, and Nazz cheer for Rolf.
"Way to go, Rolfie Boy!" said Kevin.
"That was so awesome!" said Nazz.
"Yeah!" said Jonny. Rolf waves to his friends. Viola returns Surskit to its pokeball.
"You were great, Surskit." said Viola as she puts Surskit's pokeball away and pulls out her last one. She throws it, releasing her Vivillon. Nazz looks at Vivillon with awe.
"She's beautiful." said Nazz who then uses the pokedex to learn about it. Back on the arena floor, Rolf's Pidgey and Viola's Vivillon were staring each other down.
"Okay, Vivillon. Use Tackle!" said Viola. Vivillon flies at Pidgey and slams into her, sending her down to the ground. Pidgey struggles to get up.
"Pidgey, use Sand Attack!" said Rolf. Pidgey uses one of her wings to fling sand into Vivillon's eyes.
"Use Tackle again!" said Viola. Vivillon flies at Pidgey and slams into her, knocking her out. Kevin, Jonny, and Nazz were surprised.
"Isn't Sand Attack supposed to lower the accuracy of the Pokemon it's used on?" asked Kevin.
"Yeah. But my Vivillon has the Compound Eyes ability which makes her accuracy better than a Pokemon without the ability, so Sand Attack didn't make that much of a difference." said Viola. Rolf returns Pidgey to her pokeball.
"Rolf is pleased with Pidgey." said Rolf as he puts Pidgey's pokeball away and pulls out another one and throws it, releasing his Fennekin. Nazz gushes at her.
"That Pokemon looks so adorable!" said Nazz as she uses the pokedex to learn more about Fennekin. Back on the arena floor, Fennekin and Vivillon were looking at each other.
"Fennekin, use Ember!" said Rolf. Fennekin opens her mouth and releases a spray of bits of fire at Vivillon, hitting her, and doing super effective damage. Suddenly, parts of Vivillon's body catch fire.
"Whoa. Looks like Vivillon got the burn status condition." said Kevin.
"Now it'll take damage over time and her attack power should be weakened." said Jonny.
"Way to go, Fennekin. You got this!" said Nazz.
"I don't think so." said Viola. "Vivillon, use Powder." Vivillon releases a powder from her wings which coats Fennekin's body.
"What's Powder do?" asked Jonny.
"It coats the target Pokemon in a flammable powder that will explode if the Pokemon it was used on uses a fire attack." explained Viola.
"Dude. That's intense." said Kevin.
"How can Fennekin use fire attacks if she'll get hurt if she does?" asked Jonny. Suddenly, Vivillon takes damage from the burns it has.
"Fennekin, use Howl!" said Rolf. Fennekin tilts her head up and howls, summoning a surge of energy from her that strengthens her attack power.
"Vivillon, use Stun Spore!" said Viola.
"Fennekin, dodge and use Scratch!" said Rolf. Fennekin moves out of Stun Spore's path, leaps up at Vivillon, and scratches it across its chest. Vivillon suddenly takes more damage from its burns.
"Vivillon, use Tackle!" said Viola. Vivillon flies at Fennekin, but flies past her and misses. "Well, I guess your Pidgey's Sand Attack still affected my Vivillon's accuracy a little bit."
"Fennekin, use Scratch once more!" said Rolf. Fennekin brings up her paw and scratches Vivillon up its chest, sending it flying to the ground unconscious.
"Vivillon is unable to battle. Fennekin is the winner. That means the winner of the match is the challenger Rolf!" said the referee.
"You did it, Rolf!" said Jonny.
"That was so rad!" said Nazz.
"Way to go, man!" said Kevin.
"Yes! Rolf is victorious!" said Rolf. The pokedex suddenly chimes and Nazz looks at it.
"Hey. This says that Fennekin learned something called Flame Charge." said Nazz.
"That's awesome!" said Kevin.
"Hey, Rolf! Fennekin learned a new move!" said Jonny.
"Rolf is pleased." said Rolf. Fennekin jumps into Rolf's arms and nuzzles his chest. Viola returns Vivillon to its pokeball.
"You battled well, Vivillon. I'll get you treated soon." said Viola. She puts Vivillon's pokeball away and walks over to Rolf. She reaches into her pocket and pulls out a Bug Badge. "As proof of your victory, I present you with this Bug Badge." She hands it, along with some pokedollars, to Rolf who accepts them.
"Yes! Rolf has won a Bug Badge!" said Rolf. His friends all congratulate him.
"That was great, Rolf!" said Nazz.
"Congratulations, man!" said Kevin.
"Yes! Rolf is pleased!" said Rolf. Viola walks over to Kevin.
"You and I will battle just as soon as I get my Pokemon treated." said Viola.
"I'll be waiting." replied Kevin.
"Rolf will get his Pokemon treated too." said Rolf. Viola and Rolf left the gym to go to the Pokemon Center for treatment for their Pokemon while Kevin walked to one end of the arena to wait for Viola so he can have his gym battle with her. Half an hour later, Viola and Rolf return. Viola walks over to the arena while Rolf joins Jonny and Nazz. "Rolf's Pokemon are healed."
"That's great to hear, Rolf." said Nazz. At the arena, Kevin and Rolf were facing each other. The referee walks to the side of the arena.
"This is an official gym battle between Viola the gym leader and Kevin the challenger." said the referee. "Each side will use only two Pokemon. The battle will end when one trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle. Let the match begin." said the referee.
"Go, Surskit!" said Viola, throwing her pokeball and releasing Surskit.
"You're up, Fletchling!" said Kevin, throwing Fletchling's pokeball and releasing him. Nazz uses the pokedex to learn about Fletchling.
"Use Quick Attack!" Kevin and Viola said in unison. Fletchling flies at Surskit while Surskit slides towards Fletchling, both at incredible speed, and they slam into each other, knocking them both back.
"Use Peck!" said Kevin. Fletchling flies at Surskit and jabs it with his beak, causing super effective damage.
"Bubble!" said Viola. Surskit unleashes bubbles and they hit Fletchling, damaging him and lowering his speed.
"Quick Attack again!" Viola and Kevin say in unison again. Fletchling flies at Surskit and Surskit slides towards Fletchling and they slam into each other. Fletchling gets knocked back, but stays in the air while Surskit falls to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Surskit is unable to battle. Fletchling is the winner." said the referee.
"Awesome, Fletchling!" said Kevin.
"Fletchling." said Fletchling. Viola returns Surskit to its pokeball.
"You did good, Surskit." said Viola. She puts Surskit's pokeball away and pulls out Vivillon's. "I'm sure you know who's up next. Vivillon, go!" She throws Vivillon's pokeball and releases it.
"Fletchling, Quick Attack!" said Kevin. Fletchling flies at Vivillon with incredible speed and rams it.
"Stun Spore!" said Viola. Vivillon flaps its wings and releases an orange powder onto Fletchling. He shudders and is surrounded by electricity.
"Oh man, now Fletchling's paralyzed." said Kevin.
"What does that mean?" asked Nazz.
"It means there's a chance Fletchling won't be able to attack." replied Jonny. Nazz looks at Fletchling with a concerned look on her face.
"Fletchling, try using Peck!" said Kevin. Unfortunately, paralysis kicked in, stopping Fletchling from attacking.
"Vivillon, use Tackle!" said Viola. Vivillon flies at Fletchling and rams him, knocking him to the floor, unconscious.
"Fletchling is unable to battle. Vivillon wins." said the referee.
"Great work, Vivillon." said Viola. Vivillon floats around, happily. Kevin returns Fletchling to his pokeball.
"You were rad out there, Fletchling." said Kevin. He puts Vivillon's pokeball away. 'All right, I could bring out Pansear, but Vivillon has that Powder move, and it might use it on Pansear. It'd be best to use another Pokemon.' Kevin pulls out another pokeball out of his pocket. "You're up, Froakie." He throws Froakie's pokeball and releases him. Nazz uses the pokedex to learn about Froakie. "Use Bubble, Froakie!" Froakie releases bubbles from his mouth and they hit Vivillon, damaging it and reducing its speed.
"Vivillon, use Infestation!" said Viola. Vivillon releases black specks from its wings, and they hit Froakie, hurting him. The specks move around on Froakie, hurting him again.
"Froakie, Lick!" said Kevin. Froakie extends a long tougue from his mouth and it hits Vivillon, knocking it back. Vivillon shudders and becomes surrounded by electicity. "Looks like Vivillon's paralyzed."
"Vivillon, try using Stun Spore!" said Vivillon. Vivillon tries to use Stun Spore, but paralysis stops it. Infestation hurts Froakie once again.
"Use Quick Attack!" said Kevin. Kevin hops towards Vivillon with incredible speed and rams it, knocking it back.
"Tackle!" said Viola. Vivillon broke through its paralysis and rams into Froakie, knocking him to the ground. Infestation hurts Froakie some more. Froakie suddenly becomes surrounded by a blue aura.
"I remember this from Double-D's Empoleon back at the Lily of the Valley Conference." said Kevin. "This is Froakie's Torrent ability, so now his water attacks will be mcuh stronger. Froakie, Bubble!" Froakie releases bubbles from his mouth, but they were glowing blue, and they hit Vivillon, causing critical damage and more due to Torrent powering up Froakie's Bubble attack. Vivillon falls to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Vivillon!" said Viola.
"Vivillon is unable to battle. Froakie wins. The winner of this gym battle is the challenger, Kevin." said the referee.
"You did it, Froakie!" cheered Kevin.
"Fro!" cheered Froakie.
"Way to go, you two." said Nazz.
"All right, Kevin!" said Jonny.
"Rolf is proud of you, Kevin." said Rolf. Nazz hears the pokedex chime and looks at it.
"Hey, Kevin. It says your Froakie learned a new move called Water Pulse." said Nazz.
"Righteous." replied Kevin. Viola returns Vivillon to its pokeball.
"I'm proud of you, Vivillon." said Viola. She puts Vivillon's pokeball away and walks over to Kevin.
"That was an excellent battle, Kevin." said Viola.
"Thanks." replied Kevin. Viola reaches into her pocket and pulls out a Bug Badge.
"As proof of your victory here, I award you with the Bug Badge." said Viola. Kevin takes the badge, along with some pokedollars. He then turns to look at his friends.
"Check it out! I got the Bug Badge!" said Kevin.
"Way to go, Kevin!" said Nazz.
"Rolf is happy for you, Kevin!" said Rolf.
