Nazz's Training
At the Santalune City Pokemon Center, Kevin, Jonny, Rolf, and Nazz were in the cafeteria, having dinner while Kevin was waiting for his Pokemon to be done being treated. Kevin lifts up a glass.
"Well, guys, here's to our first gym badges." said Kevin. Jonny and Rolf tap their glasses against Kevin's.
"Here, here." said Jonny.
"Rolf is also pleased with our victories at the gym." said Rolf. As the boys celebrated, Kevin noticed that Nazz looked like she had something on her mind.
"What's up, Nazz?" asked Kevin. Jonny and Rolf looked at Nazz out of curiosity.
"Guys? Can you teach me how to be a Pokemon trainer?" asked Nazz.
"How come?" asked Kevin.
"Well don't forget, after watching the Eds at the Lily of the Valley Conference over a month ago, I also said that I wanted to be a Pokemon trainer." said Nazz.
"Oh yeah." said Jonny.
"So can you guys help me learn everything I'll need to know about Pokemon training?" asked Nazz.
"Sure, Nazz. It will be so awesome." said Kevin.
"Right on!" said Jonny.
"Rolf is also happy to have you with us." said Rolf.
"Thanks, guys." said Nazz with a smile. After they ate, Kevin went to the lobby.
"What are you doing, Kevin?" asked Nazz.
"I'm just gonna give the Eds a call so I can tell them about our new gym badges." said Kevin.
"Good idea." said Jonny as he, Rolf, and Nazz followed after him. They went to the nearest available phone in the lobby and made a call to the Hau'oli Pokemon Center. A minute later, a nurse appears on the screen.
"Hau'oli Pokemon Center; how may I help you?" asked the nurse.
"Yeah. Are Ed, Edd, and Eddy there?" asked Kevin.
"I can check. Just wait for a minute." said the nurse.
"Awesome." said Kevin. About a minute later, the Eds appeared on the screen.
"Hi, guys!" said Ed.
"How are you doing in the Kalos Region, gentlemen?" asked Edd.
"Check these out." said Kevin as he, Rolf, and Jonny each held out their Bug Badge to the screen.
"Are those gym badges?" asked Eddy.
"That's right. We got our first gym badges." said Kevin.
"What are those badges called?" asked Ed.
"They're called Bug Badges." said Jonny.
"I assume by the badges, the gym leader there uses bug type Pokemon." said Edd.
"Double-D Ed Boy is correct." said Rolf.
"Congratulations, gentlemen. You're one step closer to competing in the Kalos League." said Edd.
"Thanks, Double-D." said Kevin.
"And look who decided to join us." said Jonny. He moves to one side and Nazz walks in front of the screen, surprising the Eds.
"What's Nazz doing there?!" asked Eddy.
"She got lonely without us around so she asked her parents if she could come here to the Kalos Region and they said it was okay." said Kevin.
"Well that's wonderful to hear." said Edd. "This will be a great opportunity to see the world."
"Thanks, Double-D." Nazz said with a smile. "Hey. Want to see my Pokemon?"
"You have a Pokemon?" asked Ed. Nazz holds out a Great Ball and she tosses it up and releases her Flabebe.
"She looks so cute!" said Sarah as she and Jimmy jump out in front of the Eds.
"Hi, Sarah and Jimmy." said Nazz.
"Hello, Nazz." said Jimmy.
"So how are you two doing?" asked Nazz.
"Great. Me and Jimmy found out that there's a junior's division here." said Sarah.
"Junior's division?" replied Nazz.
"It's a Pokemon tournament where trainers under the age of eleven can compete in." said Jimmy.
"Are you two going to enter it?" asked Nazz.
"You bet!" said Jimmy.
"And if I win, I'll be famous just like my brother and his friends." said Sarah.
"They're famous?" asked Nazz.
"Yeah. On the day they arrived here, people kept asking for their autographs." said Sarah.
"There's t-shirts, action figures, and trading cards of them here." said Sarah.
"And in Iki Town, I was walking past a house and looked in a kid's bedroom window and saw a poster of them in there." said Jimmy.
"That is so cool." said Nazz.
"And if me or Jimmy win, we'll be signing autographs and be on t-shirts." said Sarah. "Hey, Nazz, remember Happiny?"
"How can I forget that cutie?" asked Nazz.
"She evolved." replied Sarah.
"Wow. Can I see her?" asked Nazz.
"She's being treated right now by a nurse." said Sarah.
"Is she okay?" asked Nazz.
"Yeah. I had a Pokemon battle with someone, and I won." said Sarah.
"Well congratulations, Sarah." said Nazz. "And guess what; I'm gonna be going for the Kalos League as well."
"That's amazing, Nazz." said Edd.
"Thanks. Tomorrow, the guys here are going to be teaching me about Pokemon training and helping me build my team." said Nazz.
"I'm certain they'll be a big help. After all, their experiences and what they learned from me and my friends during the week before we left to come here will be invaluable in your quest." said Edd.
"Thanks, dude." said Nazz. After a few minutes of talking, they ended the call.
"All right. It's getting a little late, so we'll start your training tomorrow after we get you registered, Nazz." said Kevin.
"Yeah." said Jonny as he yawns and stretches. "It's getting late."
"Rolf is also sleepy." said Rolf.
"Okay, guys." said Nazz. After they showered and brushed their teeth, they went right to bed. The next morning after they all had breakfast and brushed their teeth, they go to the lobby to get Nazz registered for the Kalos League.
"Hey. Can we get Nazz here registered for the Kalos League?" asked Kevin.
"Certainly." said the nurse as she hands them an application. "Just have her fill this out and we'll take her picture for her Trainer ID. After that, just give me about an hour and I'll have it ready for you."
"Rad. Thank you." said Nazz. After she fills out the application and gets her picture taken, she and the boys exit the Pokemon Center. Kevin looks at the map that Professor Sycamore gave them.
"So where should we go to help Nazz train?" asked Kevin. Jonny looks at the map.
"How about here?" asked Jonny as he points to an area east of Santalune City. Kevin looks at where Jonny was pointing. Kevin takes out the map Professor Sycamore gave them and looks through it.
"This says that area is called Route 22." said Kevin.
"So should we check it out, guys?" asked Nazz.
"Sure. We may find some Pokemon for your team there, too." said Kevin.
"Awesome." said Nazz.
"Let's stop by the PokeMart and get Nazz some pokeballs." said Jonny.
"Good call, dude." said Kevin. They walk over to the PokeMart counter to purchase some pokeballs for Nazz. As they do, Nazz remembers the items she found on the way to Santalune City and takes them out of her backpack.
"Hey, guys. Do you know what this stuff is?" asked Nazz as she shows the boys the Antidote, Repel, Super Potion, and the purple, arrow-shaped object she found earlier. The PokeMart clerk sees the items and decided to tell Nazz about them.
"I can tell you about those items." said the shop clerk. "That yellow spray bottle is an Antidote; it cures a Pokemon of poison. That red spray bottle is a Super Potion; it's like a regular Potion, but more effective in restoring a Pokemon's stamina, that green bottle with the pokeball symbol on it is Repel; it keeps Pokemon that are less powerful than ones you have with you from attacking, and that purple arrowlike object is a Poison Barb; any Pokemon that's holding that will have the power of their poison type attacks increased." explained the shop clerk. Kevin then remembers Rolf's Beedrill.
"Doesn't your Beedrill have that Poison Sting attack, Rolf?" Kevin asked Rolf.
"Yes, Kevin." said Rolf. Kevin looks at Nazz.
"Hey, Nazz. If Rolf buys you some pokeballs; would you trade that Poison Barb for them?" Kevin asked Nazz.
"Sure." said Nazz.
"Very well. Rolf accepts this idea." said Rolf. Rolf goes on to buy ten pokeballs, then exchanges them for Nazz's Poison Barb.
"Now give that to your Beedrill to hold so it can power up his Poison Sting, Rolfie Boy." said Kevin.
"Okay, Kevin." said Rolf. He releases his Beedrill from her pokeball and attaches the Poison Barb to her stinger, then returns her to her pokeball. Nazz decides to sell the Repel for a little more cash.
"Now that that's done, let's get started on your training, Nazz." said Kevin.
"Awesome." said Nazz. They exit the Pokemon Center and start heading for Route 22. When they got there, they started Nazz's training.
"Okay. Let's get you started on the basics of training your Pokemon. To make your Pokemon stronger, they need to battle other Pokemon." said Kevin.
"Okay, Kevin." said Nazz. They hear some rustling coming from some nearby grass. They look to see a brown and white, birdlike Pokemon that was carrying a green and white leek hopping out of it.
"What's that Pokemon?" asked Jonny. He takes the pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Farfetch'd, the Wild Duck Pokemon. It always walks about with a plant stalk clamped in its beak. The stalk is used for building its nest." said the pokedex.
"This says that this Pokemon is part normal and part flying type. A flying type will come in handy when you have your gym battle against Viola." said Jonny. Nazz takes an empty pokeball out of her backpack, enlarges it and prepares to throw it at the Farfetch'd.
"Hold it, Nazz girl." said Rolf. "Pokemon will be easier to capture if you weaken them by battling them first."
"Oh." said Nazz. She puts the empty pokeball back in her backpack.
"Have your Flabebe battle it first until it gets exhausted, then capture it." said Kevin. Nazz takes Flabebe's Great Ball out of her pocket.
"Thanks, dude." said Nazz. She throws her Flabebe's Great Ball and releases her from it.
"Okay. Don't forget that Flabebe knows Tackle, Vine Whip, and Fairy Wind." said Kevin.
"I know. And I remember how to have Pokemon attack after watching the Lily of the Valley Conference." said Nazz. She and Flabebe stare down the Farfetch'd.
"Get it, Nazz." said Kevin.
"Flabebe, use Tackle!" said Nazz. Flabebe flies towards Farfetch'd and slams into it. Farfetch'd responds by jabbing Flabebe repeatedly with its leek. "So not cool!"
"Show that Farfetch'd who's boss, Nazz!" said Jonny.
"Flabebe, use Fairy Wind!" said Nazz. Flabebe starts spinning her flower towards Farfetch'd, releasing a gust of pink wind which hits Farfetch'd. Farfetch'd scoops some sand into its wing and flings it into Flabebe's eyes.
"That was Sand Attack!" said Rolf.
"That's fighting dirty!" said Nazz. "Okay, use Vine Whip!" Vines extended from Flabebe's body and strike Farfetch'd, not doing much damage.
"Flying types are resistant to grass type moves." said Kevin. Despite that, the Farfetch'd looked pretty worn out.
"It's exhausted! Catch it, Nazz!" said Jonny. Nazz quickly pulls out a pokeball from her pocket, enlarges it, and throws it at the Farfetch'd. The pokeball hits it and sucks it in. The pokeball wiggles a few times before clicking, indicating a successful capture.
"You did it, Nazz girl!" said Rolf. Nazz runs over and picks up the pokeball.
"Rad! I caught Farfetch'd!" said Nazz.
"Awesome!" said Kevin. Jonny looks at the Farfetch'd information on the pokedex.
"This says that your Farfetch'd is a boy, he knows Peck, Leer, Sand Attack, Fury Cutter, and Fury Attack. He has the Inner Focus ability which keeps him from flinching." said Jonny. Kevin takes a couple potions out of his backpack and gives them to Nazz.
"Use these on your Flabebe and Farfetch'd to heal them." said Kevin.
"Thanks, dude." said Nazz. After she heals her Pokemon, she suddenly sees a brown Pokemon with buck teeth, coming out from some tall grass. Jonny points the pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Bidoof, the Plump Mouse Pokemon. It constantly gnaws on logs and rocks to whittle down its front teeth. It nests alongside water." said the Rotom Phone.
"Time to see how I do with my new Farfetch'd." said Nazz. She turn towards the Bidoof. "Okay, Farfetch'd, use Fury Cutter!" Farfetch'd leaps at Bidoof and strikes it with his leek, knocking him back. Bidoof runs at Farfetch'd and rams him.
"Hey, Nazz, Fury Cutter gets stronger each time it's used." said Jonny.
"Awesome. Okay, Farfetch'd, use Fury Cutter again!" said Nazz. Farfetch'd strikes Bidoof with his leek again, harder than the first time and knocks Bidoof to the ground. Nazz takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at Bidoof, hitting it. Bidoof gets sucked into the pokeball and it wiggles around until it clicks and stops. Nazz picks up Bidoof's pokeball. "Cool. I caught Bidoof." Jonny takes out the pokedex and uses it to learn more about Nazz's Bidoof.
"Okay, this says Bidoof is a boy, he knows Tackle and Growl. He has the Simple ability, which doubles the effectiveness of all stat modifications.' said Jonny.
"Stat modifications?" asked Nazz.
"Not all moves hurt Pokemon." said Kevin. "There's some moves that can strengthen or weaken a Pokmeon's attack strength, defense, and speed. There's a move called Defense Curl that can increase a Pokemon's defense. If Bidoof used that move, thanks to the Simple ability, its defense will become twice that strong."
"Awesome." said Nazz. After Jonny gives Nazz a potion to heal her Bidoof. After that, they returned to the Pokemon Center to have some lunch, as well as have Nazz's Pokemon treated.
"You're doing awesome, Nazz!" said Jonny.
"Yes. Rolf thinks Nazz is doing okie dokie as a trainer so far." said Rolf.
"Thanks guys." said Nazz. "After lunch, I want to train my Pokemon some more."
"That's the spirit, Nazz!" said Kevin. After lunch and after Nazz got her Pokemon back, she spent her time training her Pokemon. Soon, Flabebe learned Lucky Chant and Razor Leaf, Farfetch'd learned Aerial Ace and Knock Off, and Bidoof learned Defense Curl and Rollout. As she continued to train, she came across a dark brown, lion cublike Pokemon with a tuft of orange hair on its head.
"Hey, guys. What's this Pokemon?" asked Nazz. Kevin takes out the pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Litleo, the Lion Cub Pokemon. They set off on their own from their pride and live by themselves to become stronger. These hot-blooded Pokémon are quick to fight." said the pokedex.
"This Pokemon looks so adorable." said Nazz.
"This says that it's part fire type and part normal type." said Kevin. "A fire type would come in handy against Viola's bug Pokemon."
"Okay then; I'll capture this one." said Nazz as she throws her Bidoof's pokeball, releasing him from it.
"Get that Litleo, Nazz girl!" said Rolf.
"Okay! Bidoof, use Rollout!" said Nazz. Bidoof curls up into a ball and rolls into Litleo; hitting it and doing super effective damage.
"Right on! Rock type moves like Rollout are super effective against fire types." said Jonny.
"Awesome!" said Nazz. Litleo opens its mouth and breaths out bits of fire, hitting Bidoof. Bidoof rolls at Litleo again and hits it with more force than before.
"Just so you know, Nazz; The Pokemon that uses Rollout will keep using it over and over again." said Jonny. "But each Rollout becomes stronger than the previous one." They look and see that Litleo was struggling to stay standing.
"Nazz! Catch it!" said Kevin. Nazz grabs a pokeball and throws it at the Litleo, hitting it and sucking it in. The ball wiggles a few times before it clicks, indicating a successful capture. Nazz runs over and picks up the pokeball.
"Awesome! I caught Litleo!" said Nazz. Jonny looks up Nazz's new Litleo's information on the pokedex.
"This says that your Litleo's a girl, she knows Tackle, Leer, and Ember; and she has the Rivalry ability which makes her stronger if she's battling another girl Pokemon, and weaker if she's fighting a boy." said Jonny.
"Okay." said Nazz. She spent the remaining daylight training her new Litleo. She learned Work Up and Headbutt. Soon, Kevin looks up at the sky and saw that it was getting dark.
"Let's call it a day, Nazz. It's getting late." said Kevin. Nazz lets out a yawn.
"Good idea, Kevin. I'm beat." said Nazz. "All that training can wear a girl out." She returns her Pokemon to their pokeballs. The group then walks back to the Pokemon Center where Nazz gives the nurse her Pokemon to be treated. The nurse holds a trainer ID out to Nazz.
"Here you go, Nazz. Your trainer ID card is finished." said the nurse.
"Thanks." said Nazz, taking the card. They then went to the cafeteria for something to drink. As they sat at the table, Nazz turned towards the boys. "So, you think my Pokemon are ready for my gym battle?"
"I'm pretty sure your Pokemon will do just fine." said Kevin.
"Thanks, guys." said Nazz. Once they all had dinner, they went to their room to get some sleep for Nazz's gym battle.
