Nazz vs Viola
The next day, after waking up, Kevin, Jonny, Rolf, and Nazz went to the nurse to pick up Nazz's Pokemon. After having breakfast, the gang left the Pokemon Center and soon arrived at the Santalune Gym.
"Well, Nazz. Are you ready for your gym battle?" asked Kevin.
"To tell you the truth, I'm a little nervous." said Nazz.
"You'll do fine, Nazz." said Jonny.
"Just remember what Rolf and the others taught you." said Rolf.
"Okay. Thanks, guys." said Nazz.
"So do you know which Pokemon you're going to use?" asked Kevin.
"If I remember correctly, bug Pokemon are weak against fire, flying, and rock type moves." said Nazz.
"Correct, Nazz." said Jonny.
"So Farfetch'd and Litleo are my best options." said Nazz.
"Yep." said Jonny.
"You got this, Nazz." said Kevin. Nazz smiles in response. The gang then entered the gym. Minutes later, Nazz was standing on one end of the battle arena while Viola was standing on the other end facing each other. Kevin, Rolf, and Jonny with Plank stood outside the arena.
"You ready, Nazz?" asked Viola.
"As I'll ever be." replied Nazz.
"This is an official gym battle between Viola the gym leader and Nazz the challenger." said the referee. "Each side will only use two Pokemon. The battle will end when one trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle. Let the match begin." Viola and Nazz each pull out a pokeball.
"Surskit, come out!" said Viola, throwing Surskit's pokeball and releasing it.
"Farfetch'd, go!" said Nazz, throwing Farfetch'd's pokeball and releasing him.
"Surskit, use Quick Attack!" said Viola. Surskit slides towards Farfetch'd with incredible speed and rams him.
"Not cool! Farfetch'd, Leer!" said Nazz. Farfetch'd's eyes leers at Surskit and his eyes glow blue, weakening Surskit's defense.
"Surskit, use Bubble!" said Viola. A large, light blue bubble forms above Surskit's head and it unleashes bubbles from it and they hit Farfetch'd, hurting him and decreasing his speed.
"Farfetch'd, use Aerial Ace!" said Nazz. Farfetch'd flies at Surskit while being surrounded by steaks of white energy and he rams into Surskit, doing super effective damage and more due to Surskit's defense being weakened by Leer. Surskit struggles to get up.
"Quick Attack!" said Viola. Surskit slides at Farfetch'd with incredible speed and rams him, knocking him to the ground, but he gets back up.
"Use Peck!" said Nazz. Farfetch'd flies at Surskit and pecks it, doing super effective damage. Surskit falls to the floor with swirly eyes.
"Surskit!" said Viola.
"Surskit is unable to battle. Farfetch'd is the winner." said the referee.
"All right!" cheered Nazz. Farfetch'd raises his wings up while holding his leek, cawing.
"Way to go, Nazz!" cheered Kevin.
"You go, Nazz!" cheered Jonny. Viola returns Surskit to its pokeball.
"You were great, Surskit." said Viola. She puts Surskit's pokeball away and pulls out Vivillon's. She looks at Nazz. "Not bad, Nazz, but lets see how you do against Vivillon." She throws Vivillon's pokeball and releases it. "Vivillon, use Sleep Powder!" Vivillon flaps its wings, releasing a blue powder onto Farfetch'd. He gets drowsy and falls asleep.
"Farfetch'd?" said Nazz.
"Sleep Powder puts Pokemon to sleep, Nazz!" said Kevin.
"Vivillon, Tackle!" said Viola. Vivillon flies at Farfetch'd and rams him, making him tumble across the arena floor.
"Wake up, Farfetch'd!" exclaimed Nazz.
"Tackle, one more time!" said Viola. Vivillon flies at Farfetch'd and rams him, sending him flying and crashing onto the arena floor with swirly eyes.
"Farfetch'd is unable to battle. Vivillon wins." said the referee.
"Great work, Vivillon!" said Viola. Vivillon spins around in the air. Nazz returns Farfetch'd to his pokeball.
"You did your best, Farfetch'd. Thanks for beating Surskit." said Nazz. She puts Farfetch'd's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Go, Litleo!" She throws Litleo's pokeball and releases her. "Litleo, Ember!" Litleo opens her mouth and releases multiple bits of fire onto Vivillon, doing a massive amount of damage to it.
"Whoa! That Ember attack looked like it did way more damage to Vivillon than Kevin's Fennekin did." said Viola.
"Say, is your Vivillon by any chance a girl?" asked Nazz.
"Yeah, why?" replied Viola.
"That would explain why my Litleo's Ember was strong." said Nazz.
"What do you mean?" asked Viola.
"My Litleo has the Rivalry ability." said Nazz. "Litleo's a girl, too. Because your Vivillon's a female also, Litleo's attacks will be much stronger than they originally would be." A shocked look appears on Viola's face.
"Well, I guess I'll do to Litleo what I had Vivillon do to Fennekin." said Viola. "Vivillon, Powder!" Vivillon flaps her wings and releases a red powder onto Litleo.
"Watch it, Nazz! Remember what Powder does!" said Jonny.
"Yeah, I remember." said Nazz. "But I also remember Kevin using non-fire attacks instead. Litleo, Work Up!" Litleo becomes surrounded by a light red aura, increasing her strength.
"Vivillon, Stun Spore!" said Viola. Vivillon flaps her wings and releases a yellow powder onto Litleo. She twitches and becomes surrounded by electricity.
"Watch it, Nazz girl! Litleo's paralyzed!" exclaimed Rolf.
"Litleo, try using Headbutt!" said Nazz. Unfortunately, paralysis kicks in, stopping Litleo from attacking.
"Vivillon, Tackle!" said Viola. Vivillon flies towards Litleo and rams her, knocking her back.
"Litleo, try using Headbutt!" said Nazz. This time, Litleo breaks through her paralysis, charges at Vivillon and rams her with her head so hard, thanks to Rivalry and Work Up powering up her Headbutt that it sends a shockwave throughout the arena. Vivillon gets sent flying past Viola and crashes into a tree. Vivillon falls to the ground, unconscious.
"No, Vivillon!" said Viola.
"Vivillon is unable to battle. Litleo wins. The winner of this gym battle is the challenger, Nazz." said the referee.
"You did it, Litleo!" cheered Nazz, jumping into the air with her arms raised. Litleo roars in response.
"Nazz did it!" cheered Jonny.
"I knew she could do it." said Kevin.
"Rolf is proud of Nazz!" said Rolf. Viola returns Vivillon to her pokeball.
"You did well, Vivillon." said Viola. She puts Vivillon's pokeball away and walks over to Nazz who was petting Litleo. Nazz sees Viola walking to her and she stands up. "That was a great battle, Nazz."
"Thanks, Viola." replied Nazz. Viola reaches into her pocket and pulls out a Bug Badge.
"And as proof of your victory here, I present you with the Bug Badge." said Viola. She gives Nazz the Bug Badge, along with pokedollars.
"Awesome." said Nazz, raising her Bug Badge into the air. The boys were applauding while Nazz still had her Bug Badge raised. Later at the Santalune City Pokemon Center, the gang was in the cafeteria while Nazz's Farfetch'd and Litleo were being treated.
"Here's to Nazz's first badge." said Kevin, raising a glass of soda.
"To Nazz." said Jonny and Rolf in unison as they raise their glasses. Nazz smiles in response while holding a glass of lemonade.
"So how many badges do we need to compete in the Kalos League?" asked Nazz.
"Eight." replied Kevin.
"Okay." said Nazz. "So any idea where the next gym is?" asked Nazz. Kevin pulls out the map and looks through it.
"Well, I heard the gym in Lumiose City will only accept challengers who have four badges, so we'll have to wait on that gym." said Kevin. "But the closest gym is in a place called Cyllage City."
"What Pokemon do you think that gym will use?" asked Jonny.
"Don't know. Guess we'll find out when we get there." said Kevin.
"Awesome." said Nazz. After they were done with their drinks, Nazz picks up her Farfetch'd and Litleo. They then leave the Pokemon Center and began travelling north. Now that the gang have won their first badges, they are one step closer to competing in the Kalos League.
