Glittering Cave, Team Flare, and Prehistoric Pokemon
At the Ambrette Town Pokemon Center, Jonny has just picked up his Quilladin and Linoone from the nurse after their battle with Jonny's new rival, Tony.
"Your Pokemon are back to full health, young man." said the nurse.
"Thank you." replied Jonny. He walks back to the others.
"Shall we keep going, Jonny?" asked Rolf.
"Yeah. I'm definitely going to focus more on training my Pokemon so I can teach Tony not to disrespect Plank." replied Jonny in a serious tone.
"Wow. I never seen Jonny like this." Nazz whispered to Kevin.
"Well the Eds did tell us that having rivals motivated them to work harder on training their Pokemon." replied Kevin. He looks at everyone. "Come on, guys, let's get going. I want to get to Cyllage City so we can take on the gym there."
"Don't forget, Kevin, we promised Professor Sycamore we look for more information on Mega Evolution." said Nazz.
"Yes, we must honor our word, Kevin." said Rolf.
"Fine. Let's look around town." said Kevin. Just then, a woman walks over to them.
"Excuse me, but are any of you Pokemon trainers?" asked the woman.
"Yeah, why?" asked Kevin. The woman reaches into a satchel and pulls out a TM. "Hey, is that one of those TM's?"
"Yes. It's for a move called Rock Smash." replied the woman. "I have no need for it, so would you like to have it? You would be doing me a favor taking it off my hand."
"Sure." said Jonny. He walks to the woman and she gives him the TM. "Thanks, ma'am." The woman nods and walks away. Jonny and the others look at the TM.
"I think I remember that Double-D saying that this move can be used to smash rocks." said Kevin.
"Should we use it on some of our Pokemon?" asked Nazz.
"I don't see why not." said Kevin. Jonny lets out his Quilladin and uses the TM on him. He gives it to Rolf who uses it on his Skiddo.
"Are you gonna use it, Kev?" asked Jonny.
"Maybe later." said Kevin. They all continue to look around town. As they explored, they see a small building and decide to check it out. Upon entering, they see lots of bones and skulls on shelves.
"Whoa." said Nazz. "What's with this place?" Just then, a man in a lab coat comes out of a back room and sees the kids.
"Oh, hello." said the man.
"Hey, man." said Kevin.
"Can I help you with something?" asked the man.
"We were just curious about what this place was." said Kevin.
"This is the Ambrette Fossil Lab." said the man.
"Fossil Lab?" replied Jonny.
"Yes." said the man. "Here we study the remains of prehistoric Pokemon in order to learn more about them."
"Cool." said Jonny.
"Indeed." said the man. "In fact, thanks to technology that was pioneered in the Kanto region years ago, we can bring extinct Pokemon back to life."
"Wow!" said Jonny.
"That sounds amazing." said Nazz.
"Yes it is." said the man. "If any of you had fossils, I could restore them to the way they were when they were alive."
"That sounds intense." said Kevin.
"But we don't have any fossils." said Nazz.
"You know, I think that fossils can be found in a place called Glittering Cave." said the man.
"Really?" asked Nazz.
"Yes. It's just up Route 9 which is just outside the east exit of this town." said the man. The Cul-De-Sac kids look at each other.
"Should we check it out?" asked Kevin.
"Sure, it sounds exciting." said Nazz.
"Yeah." said Jonny.
"Rolf would also like to see this cave." said Rolf.
"We might even see some new Pokemon there, too." said Jonny.
"All right, let's go then." said Kevin. They all exit the lab and head out Ambrette Town's east exit. When they see Route 9, they see it was mostly covered with sharp-looking rocks.
"Ugh. I don't feel like walking on that." said Nazz.
"But how are we gonna get to Glittering Cave?" asked Jonny. They look around to see if there was another path when they see a man standing next to some large, gray, four-legged Pokemon with stone skin, and a horn on their snouts.
"Whoa. I think those are Rhyhorns." said Kevin.
"You mean like what Double-D's Rhyperior used to be like?" asked Nazz. Kevin takes the pokedex out of his backpack and points it at the Rhyhorns.
"Rhyhorn, the Spikes Pokemon. It is inept at turning because of its four short legs. It can only charge and run in one direction." said the pokedex.
"Hey." said the man that was standing next to the Rhyhorns. "You kids need to get to Glittering Cave?"
"Yeah." said Kevin.
"Do you know a way that doesn't involve walking on sharp rocks?" asked Nazz.
"Well if you kids want, you can ride these Rhyhorns." said the man.
"That sounds cool!" said Jonny.
"Yes. Rolf also wishes to ride one of those Pokemon." said Rolf. The man motions at the Rhyhorns.
"Hop on." said the man. Kevin and Nazz climb onto one Rhyhorn while Jonny and Rolf climb onto the other. The gang then started riding the Rhyhorns up Route 9 without getting harmed by the rocks.
"This is nice." said Nazz.
"Sure is." said Kevin. As they continued riding, Jonny sees a short, light brown, crocodilelike Pokemon with black stripes walking from behind a large rock.
"Hey, Nazz, toss me the pokedex!" said Jonny. Nazz takes the pokedex out of her backpack and tosses it to Jonny, who catches it and points it at the Pokemon.
"Sandile, the Desert Croc Pokemon. They live buried in the sands of the desert. The sun-warmed sands prevent their body temperature from dropping." said the pokedex. Jonny pulls a pokeball out of his pocket.
"I guess now would be a good time to train my Nincada." said Jonny. He tosses Nincada's pokeball and releases him onto a large rock away from the sharp rocks. "Okay, Nincada, use Scratch!" Nincada leaps off the rock towards Sandile and scratches it with one of the claws on his forearms. He leaps back onto the rock he was on. Sandile leaps at Nincada with its mouth opened. "Harden!" Nincada glows white and his body shines, increasing his defense before Sandile bites onto him. "Use Leech Life!" Nincada leaps at Sandile and jabs it with his pointed snout, dealing super effective damage, due to Sandile being part dark type, and draining stamina from it and healing Nincada's wound. Nincada leaps back onto the large rock. Sandile glares at Nincada and its eyes glow blue, making Nincada nervous.
"I believe that was Leer." said Rolf.
"Nincada, Scratch!" said Jonny. Nincada leaps off the rock towards Sandile and scratches it, knocking it to the ground while Nincada lands back on the rock. Jonny takes an empty pokeball out of his backpack and throws it at Sandile. It hits Sandile and sucks it inside. The ball wiggles a few times before clicking, indicating a successful capture.
"Good work, Jonny." said Nazz. Jonny looks at the pokedex at his new Sandile's information.
"This says that my new Sandile is part ground, part dark, it's a girl, she knows Leer, Rage, Bite, Sand Attack, Torment, and Sand Tomb. She has the Moxie ability which makes her stronger if she knocks out another Pokemon during a battle." said Jonny.
"So it could be useful if she's in a battle against a trainer with more than one Pokemon and she knocks one out." said Kevin. Just then, his new Sandile's pokeball disappears to storage. Jonny then returns Nincada to his pokeball and the group continued down Route 9. A few minutes later, they arrived at an area without sharp rocks on it and had a small stairway that led to a cave entrance.
"You think that's Glittering Cave?" asked Nazz. They rode onto the rockless surface and climbed off the Rhyhorns. When they approached the cave, Kevin sees a sign next to the entrance that reads 'Glittering Cave'.
"Judging by the sign, this is definitely Glittering Cave." said Kevin. The group then enters the cave. Once inside, they saw that the walls of the tunnel had glowing green moss all around them which light up the cave.
"I don't know what this stuff on the walls is, but at least it keeps us from having to walk in the dark." said Nazz.
As they explore, they train their Pokemon some more. While doing so, Kevin's Frogadier learned Round, his Fletchinder learns Ember, his Vivillon learned Supersonic, his Pansear learned Bite and Flame Burst, his Ivysaur learned Razor Leaf, and his Doduo learned Pursuit.
Jonny's Quilladin and Linoone got stronger, his Butterfree learned Supersonic, his Charmeleon learned Scary Face, his Gulpin learned Amnesia, and his Nincada learned Fury Swipes and Mind Reader.
Rolf's Braixen got stronger, his Diggersby learned Double Kick, his Pidgeotto learned Twister, his Beedrill learned Pursuit, his Skiddo learned Synthesis and Take Down, and his Wartortle learned Rapid Spin.
Nazz's Floette learned Wish, her Farfetch'd learned Air Cutter, her Bidoof learned Hyper Fang, her Litleo got stronger, and her Skitty learned Copycat. While training her Ralts, she began to glow. The group looked at Ralts as she began to change. When Ralts stopped glowing, she was taller, her eyes were visible, her horns were on the side of her head, she had two side ponytails going down each side of her head, her legs were slender and green, her arms were white and slender, and it looked like she had a tutu around her waist.
"Wow, awesome!" said Nazz. "Hey, Jonny, can I see the pokedex?" Jonny gives Nazz the pokedex and she points it at her newly evolved Ralts.
"Kirlia, the Emotion Pokemon and the evolved form of Ralts. It has a psychic power that enables it to distort the space around it and see into the future." said the pokedex.
"Congratulations, Kirlia." said Nazz. Kirlia nods and does a curtsey. The group soon reached an area with a mine cart on the tracks. In the area, stood a man with red hair, wearing a red suit, white dress shirt, black tie, black shoes, black gloves, and red sunglasses. The man turns when he hears the group entering.
"What's this?" asked the man. He runs over to the group. "What do we have here? Some nosy trainers have come poking around."
"Hey, dude, we're just looking around" replied Kevin.
"Listen up! We're the fashionable team whose very name makes people tremble in fear, Team Flare." said the man. The group looks at the man with blank expressions.
"I don't feel scared. Do you, Rolf?" asked Jonny.
"Rolf doesn't feel scared one bit." said Rolf.
"Our goal is to make it that we're the only ones happy." said the man.
"Hey, everyone has the right to be happy." said Nazz.
"We don't care about what happens to other people and Pokemon." said the man. "So get out of here, don't you know not to play with fire?"
"Yeah." replied Kevin.
"It doesn't really matter though." said the man. "Someday, everyone not in Team Flare is going to be burned anyway." The man pulls out a pokeball.
"I think he wants to battle you, Kevin." said Nazz.
"If this dork wants to battle, fine." said Kevin, pulling out a pokeball.
"Houndour, go!" said the man, throwing the pokeball and releasing a black, doglike Pokemon with a red muzzle. Nazz take out the pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Houndour, the Dark Pokemon. To corner prey, they check each other's location using barks that only they can understand." said the pokedex.
"You're up, Frogadier!" said Kevin, throwing Frogadier's pokeball and releasing him. "Use Quick Attack!" Frogadier leaps at Houndour with incredible speed and rams it.
"Use Bite!" said the man. Houndour bites onto Frogadier's abdomen, making him flinch. "Now use Leer!" Houndour glares at Frogadier, making him nervous and weakening his defense.
"Use Water Pulse!" said Kevin. Frogadier creates a ball of water and launches it at Houndour, hitting it and causing super effective damage to it. It was enough to knock Houndour out.
"Way to go, Kevin." said Jonny. The man returns Houndour to its pokeball and pulls out another one.
"Zubat, go!" said the man, throwing the pokeball and releasing a blue, bat-like Pokemon. Nazz points the pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Zubat, the Bat Pokemon. It has no eyes. Instead, it relies on its ultrasonic cries for echolocation to flit about in darkness." said the pokedex.
"Zubat, Wing Attack!" said the man. Zubat flies at Frogadier and hits him with one of its wings.
"Frogadier, use Bubble!" said Kevin. Frogadier opens his mouth and releases a small barrage of bubbles, hitting the Zubat, damaging it, and lowering its speed. "Now use Round!" Frogadier then releases a soundwave which hits the Zubat, knocking it back.
"Zubat, use Bite!" said the man. The Zubat flies at Frogadier with its mouth open.
"Hurry, Frogadier; use Quick Attack!" said Kevin. Frogadier quickly moves towards the Zubat and slams into it, knocking it to the ground, unconscious.
"Noo!" said the man.
"Way to go, Kevin!" said Jonny.
"You did good, Kevin!" said Rolf. The man returns his Zubat to its pokeball and tosses Kevin pokedollars.
"Don't think this is over, kid!" said the man as he runs off.
"What's his problem?" asked Kevin as he picks up pokedollars.
"Who knows?" replied Nazz. "Let's just keep going." As they continued down the track, a woman wearing the same kind of suit that the man they just battled against runs out from behind a corner and stands in front of them.
"What are you kids doing here?" asked the woman.
"Looking for fossils." said Jonny.
"Well so am I, as well as my other fellow Team Flare members." said the woman. "So I am going to have to ask you kids to scram."
"No way." said Jonny. "You can't tell us what to do." The woman then pulls out a pokeball.
"Then maybe my Pokemon will make you leave." said the woman. "Go, Gulpin!" The woman throws the pokeball and releases a Gulpin.
"Rolf will battle this ruffian." said Rolf as he steps forwards and pulls out a pokeball. He throws it and releases his Braixen. "Braixen, use Psybeam!" Braixen pulls her branch out of her tail, points it towards the Gulpin, and releases a beam of psychic energy out of it, which hits the Gulpin, doing super effective damage.
"Gulpin, use Sludge!" said the woman. The Gulpin opens its mouth and spits out a glob of sludge.
"Braixen, dodge and use Flame Charge!" said Rolf. Braixen ducks under the Sludge attack and rushes at the Gulpin as she coats her body in fire. She slams into the Gulpin with enough force to knock it out.
"Way to go, Rolf!" said Nazz. The woman returns her Gulpin to its pokeball and puts it back into her jacket pocket.
"Impressive." said the woman as she pulls out another pokeball and throws it, releasing a green, four-legged Pokemon with yellow markings on its cheeks. Kevin pulls out the pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Electrike, the Lightning Pokemon. It stores static electricity in its fur for discharging. It gives off sparks if a storm approaches." said the pokedex.
"Electrike, use Thunder Wave!" said the woman. The Electrike releases a surge of static electricity from its body and it hits Braixen. She suddenly starts twitching as a result of it.
"Watch it, Rolf. I think Braixen is paralyzed!" said Kevin.
"That will not stop us!" said Rolf. "Braixen, use Fire Spin!" Braixen manages to fight through paralysis and releases a spray of fire which surrounds the Electrike and spirals upward, doing some damage.
"Electrike, use Quick Attack!" said the woman. The Electrike jumps through the Fire Spin and slams into Braixen.
"Braixen, use Psybeam!" said Rolf. Braixen uses another Psybeam attack on the Electrike and it hits it. Suddenly, the Electrike starts stumbling around.
"Rolf, I think that Electrike is confused now." said Jonny.
"Very good." said Rolf.
"Hurry, Electrike. Use Tackle!" said the woman. The Electrike tried to use Tackle, but it runs into a tunnel wall instead, knocking itself out in the process.
"Good work, Rolf!" said Nazz.
"Yes. Rolf is pleased." said Rolf. The woman returns her Electrike to its pokeball.
"This isn't over." said the woman as she throws pokedollars at Rolf's feet. "We will meet again." She then runs away, leaving the group to themselves.
"What's with her?" asked Nazz. "First that man that was dressed like her, now this."
"Team Flare, huh?" said Kevin. "I wonder if they're like that Team Galactic group the Eds told us about."
"Probably." said Nazz.
"We should be careful." said Jonny. Rolf returns Braixen to her pokeball and picks up the pokedollars. The group continued to walk through the tunnel when a man and a woman dressed up like Team Flare appeared and blocked their path.
"Can you two like move out of our way?" asked Nazz.
"No. We're trying to find fossils, and we don't want anyone getting in our way." said the man.
"That is correct. If you want us to move, you'll have to make us." said the woman. Jonny walks next to Nazz.
"Want to double team these two, Nazz?" asked Jonny.
"Sure, it'll make things quicker." said Nazz. The two Team Flare people each pull out a pokeball.
"Croagunk, go!" said the woman, throwing a pokeball and releasing a bipedal, purple, frog-like Pokemon.
"Go, Scraggy!" said the man, throwing a pokeball and releasing a bipedal, yellow, lizard-like Pokemon that looked like it was holding yellow trousers up.
"Hey, Kevin, can you toss us the pokedex?" asked Jonny. Kevin tosses the pokedex to Jonny and he points it at the purple Pokemon.
"Croagunk, the Toxic Mouth Pokemon. Inflating its poison sacs, it fills the area with an odd sound and hits flinching opponents with a poison jab." said the pokedex. Jonny then points the pokedex at the yellow Pokemon. "Scraggy, the Shedding Pokemon. Proud of its sturdy skull, it suddenly headbutts everything, but its weight makes it unstable, too."
"Farfetch'd, let's go!" said Nazz, throwing the pokeball and releasing her Farfetch'd.
"Let's go, Charmeleon!" said Jonny, throwing Charmeleon's pokeball and releasing him.
"Croagunk, Feint Attack!" said the woman. Croagunk leaps at Farfetch'd and punches him, knocking him back.
"Scraggy, Brick Break!" said the man. Scraggy leaps at Charmeleon and karate chops him.
"Farfetch'd, Aerial Ace!" said Nazz. Farfetch'd flies at Croagunk while surrounded by white streaks of energy and rams it, dealing super effective damage.
"Charmeleon, Dragon Rage!" said Jonny. Charmeleon opens his mouth and releases a purple ball of energy that hits Scraggy.
"Croagunk, Poison Sting!" said the woman. Croagunk releases glowing purple needles from its mouth and they hit Farfetch'd.
"Scraggy, Headbutt!" said the man. Scraggy runs at Charmeleon and rams its head into him.
"Oh yeah?! Farfetch'd, use Slash!" said Nazz. Farfetch'd leaps at Croagunk and swings his leek at Croagunk, hitting it and knocking it out.
"No, Croagunk!" said the woman.
"Charmeleon, Scratch!" said Jonny. Charmeleon runs at Scraggy and scratches it with his claws, knocking it to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Scraggy!" exclaimed the man.
"Good work, Nazz." said Jonny.
"Right back at you, Jonny." replied Nazz. The Team Flare members returned their Pokemon to their pokeballs, threw pokedollars at Jonny and Nazz, and ran off.
"I hope there isn't any more of those people." said Nazz, picking up pokedollars.
"Me too." said Jonny who was also picking up pokedollars. They returned their Pokemon to their pokeballs and they continued walking through the tunnel. They soon reached a dead end where they saw a man in a lab coat, digging through a tunnel wall. He turns when he hears the group approaching.
"Oh, hello. Did you kids come here to find fossils?" asked the man.
"Yeah, man." replied Kevin.
"Did Team Flare bother you, sir?" asked Nazz.
"Who?" asked the man. Nazz turned towards the others.
"This guy must've been so focused on fossils he didn't even notice Team Flare." said Nazz.
"Lucky." said Kevin.
"You know, I found two fossils." said the man, holding a light purple fossil and a bluish-green fossil.
"Awesome." said Nazz.
"But I already found fossils just like these." said the man. "Would you kids like to have them?"
"Sure." said Nazz and Kevin. The man gives Nazz the bluish green fossil.
"That young lady is a Sail Fossil." said the man. He then gives Kevin the other fossil. "And that young man is a Jaw Fossil."
"Cool." said Kevin.
"Now if you take those fossils to the lab in Ambrette Town, I can resurrect them into new Pokemon." said the man.
"Awesome." said Nazz.
"You guys go on ahead." said Jonny. "Rolf and I want to try finding fossils ourselves."
"Okay, Jonny Boy." said Kevin. Half an hour later at the Fossil Lab, Kevin and Nazz were waiting for the scientists to finish reviving their fossils. Soon, one of the scientists exits the back room and walks over to them.
"Thank you for waiting." said the scientist as he pulls out new pokeballs. He tosses them, releasing a brown Pokemon that looked like a small tyrannosaurus rex, and one that looked like a light blue brontosaurus that had blue diamonds on its side.
"Awesome." said Nazz.
"Whoa." said Kevin with awe in his voice.
"Kevin; from your Jaw Fossil, I revived this Tyrunt." said the scientist as he points at the tyrannosaurus Pokemon. Kevin takes the pokedex and points it at it.
"Tyrunt, the Royal Heir Pokemon. Its immense jaws have enough destructive force that it can chew up an automobile. It lived 100 million years ago." said the pokedex.
"And Nazz; from your Sail Fossil, I revived this Amaura." said the scientist as he points at the brontosaurus Pokemon. Nazz grabs the pokedex from Kevin and points it at the Pokemon.
"Amaura, the Tundra Pokemon. This calm Pokémon lived in a cold land where there were no violent predators like Tyrantrum." said the pokedex.
"It's so cute." said Nazz. Kevin takes the pokedex and looks at Tyrunt's information.
"This says my Tyrunt is a dude, he's part rock type and part dragon type. He knows Tail Whip, Tackle, Roar, Stomp, Bide, Stealth Rock, Bite, and Charm. He has the Strong Jaw ability which makes his biting moves stronger." said Kevin. Nazz then looks up her new Amaura's information.
"This says my Amaura is a girl, she's part rock and part ice, she knows Growl, Powder Snow, Thunder Wave, Rock Throw, Icy Wind, Take Down, Mist, and Aurora Beam. She has the Refrigerate ability which makes her normal type moves not only stronger, it turns them into ice type moves." said Nazz.
"Man, Double-D would flip if he knew we have Pokemon that were brought back from fossils." said Kevin. The scientist hands Kevin and Nazz the pokeballs for their new Pokemon. Just then, Jonny and Rolf came rushing into the lab.
"Hey, mister. Rolf and I each found a fossil!" exclaimed Jonny as he and Rolf each hold out a fossil.
"Congratulations." said the scientist. He examines their fossils. "Jonny, you found a Dome Fossil, and Rolf, you have found a Helix Fossil."
"Will you revive Rolf and Jonny's fossils?" asked Rolf.
"Yes I will." replied the scientist. He takes the fossils and brings them to the back room. Ten minutes later, the scientist returns with two more pokeballs. He tosses them and releases a brown Pokemon that resembled a horseshoe crab, and a light blue Pokemon that had a spiral shell on its back. "Jonny, from your Dome Fossil, I have revived Kabutos, and Rolf, by your Helix Fossil, I have revived this Omanyte." Nazz gives the pokedex to Jonny and he points it at his new Pokemon.
"Kabutos, the Shellfish Pokemon. This Pokémon was regenerated from the fossil of an ancient creature. It protects itself with a hard shell." said the pokedex. Jonny uses the pokedex to learn more about Kabutos.
"Okay, my Kabutos is a boy, he's part rock and part water, he knows Scratch, Harden, Absorb, Leer, and Mud Shot. He has the Battle Armor ability which prevents him from recieving critical hits." He gives Rolf the pokedex and points it at his new Omanyte.
"Omanyte, the Spiral Pokemon. Revived from an ancient fossil, this Pokémon uses air stored in its shell to sink and rise in water." said the pokedex. Rolf then uses it to look up Omanyte's information.
"This says Rolf's Omanyte is a boy, he's part rock and part water, he knows Constrict, Withdraw, Bite, Water Gun, Rollout, and Leer. He also has the Battle Armor ability." said Rolf.
"So how do you like your Pokemon" asked the scientist.
"They're so cool!" said Jonny. The group return their new Pokemon to their pokeballs, which vanishes due to them already having six Pokemon on their teams.
"Well, we got to be going. Thanks for everything." said Kevin. The scientist nods in response. The group leave the lab and head to the Pokemon Center to have their Pokemon healed. While they waited, the group heads to the cafeteria for dinner. Once they finished eating, they retrieved their Pokemon, showered, brushed their teeth, and went to bed to sleep so they can be rested so they can continue their journey to Cyllage City.
