Cyllage City Gym Battles (Part One)
The group continued travelling up Route 8, training their Pokemon as they did. Jonny's Quilladin learned Needle Arm, his Linoone learned Mud Sport, his Butterfree learned Whirlwind, his Ninjask learned Double Team, Fury Cutter, and Screech, and his Sandile learned Embargo.
Kevin's Frogadier and Fletchinder got stronger, his Vivillon learned Supersonic, his Pansear learned Flame Burst, his Ivysaur learned Sweet Scent, and his Doduo learned Uproar.
Rolf's Braixen got stronger, his Diggersby learned Double Kick, his Pidgeotto also got strong, his Skiddo got strong also, and his Wartortle learned Protect.
Nazz's Floette learned Magical Leaf, her Farfetch'd learned Air Cutter, her Litleo learned Fire Fang, and her Skitty learned Assist. They kept walking until they finally arrived at Cyllage City.
"Man, I thought we'd never get here." said Kevin.
"I can't wait to challenge the gym here." said Jonny. He looks at Plank. "You bet I'm ready, Plank." The group then walked to a Pokemon Center and went inside. Once inside, they walked to the nurse and gave her their Pokemon. Kevin took the time to sell the Stardust and Pearl he found with his Dowsing Machine. He recieved 1,700 pokedollars for them, then he uses some of the money to buy four pokeballs. He asked the clerk about the black and yellow pokeball he found with the Dowsing Machine. The clerk explains that the pokeball was an Ultra Ball, which, to Kevin's delight, was stronger than a Great Ball.
"Awesome." said Kevin. The group went to the cafeteria for lunch. After they were done eating and picking up their Pokemon, they exited the Pokemon Center.
"So where's the gym at?" asked Jonny.
"Let's ask around." said Kevin. After a few minutes, they found someone who told them where to find the gym. They head to the location they were given, and were surprised to see an opening leading into a mountain.
"Is this the gym?" asked Nazz.
"It's inside a mountain?" asked Kevin.
"Cool." said Jonny.
"Well let's go in and see for sure if it is the gym." said Kevin. They go inside and were surprised to see a tall, rock-climbing wall.
"Is this really a Pokemon gym?" asked Jonny.
"Maybe it's just a regular gym?" said Nazz.
"Hey!" someone said from above them. They look up to see someone standing on top of the rock-climbing wall. "Are you here to challenge me?"
"Is this the Cyllage City Pokemon Gym?" asked Kevin.
"Yes it is." the person now revealed to be the gym leader said.
"Well at least we're in the right place." said Nazz.
"Where's the battle area?" Jonny asked the gym leader.
"It's up at the top of this wall." said the gym leader.
"How do we get up there?" asked Nazz.
"Well you can either climb up here, or take that elevator over there." the gym leader said as he pointed to a nearby elevator that's built into the side of the rock-climbing wall.
"I'm gonna climb up." said Jonny. "It looks like so much fun!"
"I'm climbing too, dude." said Kevin as he cracks his knuckles
"Rolf also welcomes the challenge." said Rolf as he does some stretches. Nazz looks up at how tall the rock-climbing wall was.
"I'll take the elevator." said Nazz.
"Suit yourself." said Kevin.
"First one to the top gets to battle first!" said Jonny as he runs over to the wall and starts climbing.
"Hey! You got a head start!" said Kevin as he climbs up after Jonny with Rolf following after them. Nazz goes into the elevator and rides it to the top. Five minutes later, Jonny makes it to the top, then Kevin, and finally, Rolf.
"I made it first!" said Jonny.
"Only because you got a head start." said Kevin. They look around the top and see a Pokemon battle area with railings surrounding it. At one side of the area was a man with dark skin, black hair that has three stones in it, a black, long-sleeved shirt, gray pants, and black shoes.
"Hello." said the man.
"You the gym leader?" asked Kevin.
"Yes. My name is Grant." said the man now known as Grant. They hear the elevator open and look to see Nazz getting out of it. She looks at the boys with a surprised look on her face.
"No way! You got here before me?" Nazz said.
"I guess." said Kevin. Grant walks over to the group.
"So who's challenging me first?" asked Grant. Jonny steps forward.
"I'll battle you first." said Jonny. Grant nods in response. Jonny holds out Plank towards Rolf. "Can you hold on to Plank for me, Rolf?"
"Rolf shall keep a watchful eye on your wooden friend, Jonny the Wood Boy." said Rolf as he takes Plank. Jonny walks to one end of the battle arena while Grant walks to the other end of it while Kevin, Rolf, and Nazz climb over a railing and looked on from it. A man stood on one side of the arena.
"This is an official gym battle between Grant the gym leader and Jonny the challenger." said the man revealed to be the referee. "Each side will use two Pokemon. The battle will end when one trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle. The trainer who still has Pokemon remaining will be the winner. Let the battle begin." Jonny and Grant each pull out a pokeball.
"Go, Sandile!" said Jonny, throwing Sandile's pokeball and releasing her.
"Go, Amaura!" said Grant, throwing a pokeball and releasing a Amaura.
"No way! He has an Amaura too?" said Nazz.
"Sandile, Mud-Slap!" said Jonny. Sandile fires a stream of mud from her mouth and it hits Amaura in the face, dealing super effective damage and lowering her accuracy.
"Aurora Beam!" said Grant. Amaura fires a multicolored beam of energy from its mouth and it was able to hit Sandile, dealing super effective damage to her due to ice type moves being strong against ground type Pokemon.
"Use Sand Tomb!" said Jonny. Sandile's eyes glow blue and a cyclone of sand appears around Amaura and it deals super effective damage to it.
"Take Down!" said Grant. Amaura charges at Sandile while being surrounded by a golden aura and rams her, knocking her to the ground. Amaura flinches in pain, due to Take Down dealing recoil damage to its user. Sandile struggles to get up.
"Hang in there, Sandile!" said Jonny. Sandile gets back on her feet. "Use Mud-Slap!" Sandile fires another stream of mud from her mouth and it hits Amaura, dealing super effective damage to it.
"Take Down!" said Grant. Amaura charges at Sandile, but misses due to Mud-Slap lowering its accuracy.
"Mud-Slap again!" said Jonny. Sandile fires another stream of mud from her mouth and it hits Amaura, causing super effective damage. It proved too much for Amaura and it passes out.
"Amaura is unable to battle. Sandile is the winner." said the referee.
"You did it, Sandile!" cheered Sandile. Sandile lets out a yell and she begins surging with energy. "Right on! Your Moxie ability activated!"
"So now Sandile's attack strength is greater than before?" asked Nazz.
"You bet." said Jonny. Grant returns Amaura to its pokeball.
"You were great, Amaura." said Grant. He puts Amaura's pokeball away and pulls out another pokeball. "Go, Tyrunt!" He throws a pokeball and releases a Tyrunt.
"He has a Tyrunt too?" asked Kevin.
"Okay, Tyrunt, use Stomp!" said Grant. Tyrunt runs at Sandile and jumps at her. It lands hard on its feet on Sandile. Stomp also caused Sandile to flinch. "Stomp once more!" Tyrunt stomps onto Sandile with both feet again, knocking her out.
"Sandile, no!" exclaimed Jonny.
"Sandile is unable to battle. Tyrunt wins." said the referee.
"Way to go, Tyrunt." said Grant. Tyrunt roars in response. Jonny returns Sandile to her pokeball.
"You were great, Sandile." said Jonny. He puts Sandile's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Go, Quilladin!" He throws Quilladin's pokeball and releases him. "Quilladin, use Rock Smash!" Quilladin's arm glows white and he charges at Tyrunt and hits it with it, dealing super effective damage to it. Tyrunt slumps due to Rock Smash weakening its defense.
"Rock Tomb!" said Grant. Tyrunt becomes surrounded by white energy and multiple gray rocks form around its head. They fly at Quilladin and pile onto him, damaging him and reducing his speed.
"Needle Arm!" said Jonny. A glowing green orb with four long spikes form around Quilladin's arm. He charges at Tyrunt and hits it with his arm, knocking Tyrunt to the ground, dealing more damage to it due to its defense being weakened by Rock Smash.
"Use Bite!" said Grant. Tyrunt bites onto Quilladin's arm when he was close to it, hurting him. "Just so you know, my Tyrunt has the Strong Jaw ability, which makes his bite moves stronger." Fortunately, Bite doesn't cause Quilladin to flinch.
"Use Bite right back!" said Jonny. Quilladin bites Tyrunt's nose, hurting it and making it flinch. "Now use Needle Arm!" Quilladin swings his arm up Tyrunt's jaw, sending him flying up into the air and landing on the ground. It struggles to get up.
"Use Stomp!" said Grant. Tyrunt jumps into the air and stomps onto Quilladin. Stomp doesn't cause Quilladin to flinch.
"Vine Whip!" said Jonny. Two green vines come out from Quilladin's back and they strike Tyrunt in the head. Tyrunt stood for a few seconds with a stunned look on its face before collapsing to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Tyrunt!" exclaimed Grant.
"Tyrunt is unable to battle. Quilladin wins. The winner of this gym battle is the challenger, Jonny." said the referee.
"We did it, Quilladin!" cheered Jonny, running to Quilladin and hugging him. Quilladin smiles in respone. Grant returns Tyrunt to its pokeball.
"You did well, Tyrunt." said Grant. He puts Tyrunt's pokeball away and walks over to Jonny. "That was an intense battle, Jonny."
"Thanks, Grant." said Jonny. Grant reaches into his pocket and pulls out a brown, light brown, and gray badge that resembled a rock-climbing wall.
"And as proof of your victory here, I reward you with the Cliff Badge." said Grant.
"Right on!" said Jonny. He takes the Cliff Badge along with pokedollars. Jonny returns Quilladin to his pokeball and walks to his friends. Rolf gives Plank back to Jonny. "Did you see me out there, Plank?" Grant walks to the group.
"So which of you will be facing me next?" asked Grant. Rolf steps forward.
"Rolf will battle you next." said Rolf.
"As soon as I get my Pokemon healed, we will have our battle." said Grant. He walks to the edge of the arena and starts climbing down.
"I'm going to get my Pokemon healed too." said Jonny. He runs to the edge of the arena and begins climbing down. Rolf climbs over the railing and to where Jonny was standing during his gym battle to wait for Grant to return so he can battle him. Twenty minutes later; Grant, and Jonny climb back up onto the battle area. Jonny joins Kevin and Nazz, while Grant goes to his side of the arena.
"Sorry to keep you waiting." said Grant.
"Rolf is patient." said Rolf.
"Are you ready to battle?" asked Grant.
"Rolf is ready." said Rolf. The referee walks to the center of the arena.
"This is an official gym battle between Grant the gym leader, and Rolf the challenger." said the referee. "Each side will use two Pokemon. The battle will end when one trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle. The trainer who still has Pokemon remaining will be the winner. Let the battle begin." Rolf and Grant each pull out a pokeball. Grant throws his pokeball, releasing his Amaura. Rolf throws his pokeball, releasing his Wartortle.
"Good choice, man." said Kevin. "Water types are strong against rock types."
"Yes. Rolf is clever." said Rolf.
"Let's see if that's enough for you to win." said Grant. "Amaura, use Thunder Wave!" Amaura releases a wave of static electricity from its body and it hits Wartortle, paralyzing him.
"Wartortle, use Bubble!" said Rolf. Wartortle manages to fight through paralysis and releases a barrage of bubbles from his mouth, hitting Amaura, and does super effective damage.
"Amarua, use Take Down!" said Grant. Amaura charges at Wartortle and rams into him, hurting Wartortle, and itself due to recoil damage.
"Wartortle, use Bite!" said Rolf. Wartortle tries to bite Amaura, but paralysis prevents him from doing it.
"Amaura, use Powder Snow!" said Grant. Amaura releases a spray of powdery snow from its mouth, hitting Wartortle, but not doing a lot of damage, thanks to water types being resistant to ice type moves.
"Wartortle, use Water Gun!" said Rolf. Wartortle manages to fight through paralysis and sprays Amaura with a large stream of water, hitting it, doing super effective damage, and knocking it out.
"Amaura is unable to battle. Wartortle is the winner." said the referee.
"Way to go, Rolf!" said Nazz.
"Keep it up, man!" said Kevin. Grant returns his Amaura to its pokeball.
"You rest up, Amaura." Grant said to Amaura in its pokeball. He puts the pokeball away and pulls out his last one. He throws it, releasing his Tyrunt. "Tyrunt, use Tackle!" Tyrunt charges at Wartortle and rams into his chest.
"Wartortle, use Bubble!" said Rolf. Wartortle manages to fight through paralysis and hits Tyrunt with Water Gun.
"Since my Tyrunt is part dragon type, he has some resistance to water type moves." said Grant. "Now to end this. Tyrunt, use Stomp!" Tyrunt jumps up and drives its foot into Wartortle's face, knocking him down, unconscious.
"Wartortle is unable to battle. Tyrunt is the winner." said the referee.
"Dude." said Kevin.
"Don't give up, Rolf!" said Jonny. Rolf returns Wartortle to his pokeball.
"Rolf is proud of you." Rolf said to Wartortle's pokeball. He puts it away, and pulls out his last one. He throws it, releasing his Diggersby.
"Tyrunt, use Stomp again!" said Grant. Tyrunt stomps on Diggersby's stomach, making him stumble back a bit.
"Diggersby, use Mud Shot!" said Rolf. Diggersby launches a barrage of mud at Tyrunt, hitting it, and doing super effective damage. Tyrunt tries to move back, but the mud from Mud Shot was under its feet, making it hard for it to move.
"Looks like Mud Shot is slowing down that Tyrunt!" said Kevin.
"Rolf, now's your chance!" said Nazz.
"Yes! Diggersby, use Double Kick!" said Rolf. Diggersby jumps at Tyrunt, delivering two strong kicks to his head and torso, knocking it onto its back, unconscious.
"Tyrunt is unable to battle. Diggersby is the winner. That means the winner of the match is the challenger, Rolf!" said the referee.
"Rolf won!" cheered Jonny.
"Way to go, dude!" said Nazz.
"Nice one, man!" said Kevin. Rolf runs to Diggersby and hugs him.
"Rolf is pleased with Diggersby!" said Rolf as Diggersby's ear arms wrap around Rolf in a hug. Grant returns Tyrunt to its pokeball.
"You've earned a good rest." said Grant. He puts Tyrunt's pokeball away and walks over to Rolf and pulls a Cliff Badge, along with some pokedollars, out of his pocket. "You're a tough trainer, Rolf. You've earned this Cliff Badge." He hands the Cliff Badge and pokedollars to Rolf who accepts them.
"Rolf has won a Cliff Badge!" said Rolf as he holds it up in triumph. Grant looks towards Kevin and Nazz.
"So who am I battling next?" asked Grant. Kevin steps forward.
"I'm next, dude." said Kevin.
"Okay. Once I get my Pokemon healed, I'll return for our battle." said Grant.
"I'll be waiting, dude." said Kevin.
"Rolf also will get his Pokemon healed." said Rolf. He and Grant leave the gym, while Kevin sits on one side of the arena, and concentrates on his upcoming gym battle.
