CHAPTER ONE
World of Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers 2022
Aboard TARDIS designated Gavan's Glory II
Central Control Room
Landing somewhere outside Los Angeles, California
"So, what's our cover going to be?" Sofia said as William returned the engine control lever to its default position.
"In this world, Sofia, you will—essentially—be playing yourself," William said.
Sofia cocked an eyebrow. William took the gesture as a signal to continue: "In this world, fictional characters from films and television programs—known to the human citizens of this world as 'Toons'—live and work alongside them."
"In this world, your life was turned into a television series bearing your royal title—Sofia the First, which ran for five years," William continued. "After the show's run ended, you became a well-known and respected Toon actress, who has just finished filming the highly-anticipated motion picture Rescue Rangers x The Fast Saga."
"And before you ask, a member of the Cinnabarian Shadow Guard named Zasha Gagrin has been undercover in this world for the last seven years doubling as you—including during the filming of the crossover," William said.
A holographic display formed, showing a C.S.G. biographical file on Agent Zasha Gagrin, who—Sofia, Mal, Phineas and Zenon noticed—bore more than a passing resemblance to World of High School Musical Grand Key component Kelsi Nielsen, only having brown hair instead of blond.
"I can see why Scarlett put Agent Gagrin undercover here as me," Sofia said. "She could pass as me quite easily with makeup and some minor cosmetic modification."
"In fact, I had Zasha speak as you at the crossover's end-of-production press conference revealing that the native-to-this-world version of you has had a couple of major changes in her life," William said before tapping a few controls on the panel he stood at.
The C.S.G. biofile on Agent Gagrin switched to footage of Agent Gagrin—disguised as Sofia—speaking to reporters.
"I am so happy to announce that I have not only recently married, but I am now expecting my first child," Zasha-as-Sofia said. "I am one month along, but I do know that I am expecting a girl."
"Another C.S.G. operative has been undercover as my real-human counterpart for about five years now," William added before tapping a few more keys. "It is this agent working undercover who is 'married' to Agent Gagrin."
Sofia's jaw dropped when she saw who was acting undercover as William. "James?!" Sofia said.
Sure enough, the name "Prince James Charlus Roland the Second of Enchancia" appeared with "Current Status: Active Undercover, World of Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers 2022; Undercover Identity: William Edwards" next to the image.
"Why the hell didn't you tell me?" Sofia said.
"It was at his request," William said. "James wanted to help in the mission to stop the A.I.C., so Scarlett made him an operative of the C.S.G. on the provision that his identity as such not be revealed to you until 100% absolutely necessary. I vowed to maintain the promise."
"But, what if he..." Sofia started to say.
"Sofia, we all know the risks of joining this mission," Koska said, joined by the other members of the King's Hand. "Whether as a member of the King's Hand like us, the C.S.G. or simply being a Grand Key component like you."
"James understood the danger he was getting into. He also loves you as a member of his family," William said. "That is why he signed on."
Sofia nodded her understanding.
"But now that we're here, we will take over for Agent Gagrin and Agent Roland," William said, deactivating the holographic display. "Our mission is to retrieve the five Grand Key components from this world—Chip, Dale, Gadget Hackwrench, Zipper and Monterey Jack."
Five holographic displays activated, showing Chip, Dale, Gadget, Zipper and Monterey. "Once we have them safely on board, we must then—finally—travel back to the World of Descendants to retrieve the original Enterprise," William said. "Are we clear? The result of all we have been through on this mission so far rides on what happens in this world."
Everyone in the control room nodded. "Great," William said before snapping his fingers, opening the doors off of the ship. "Let's go."
