LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
A Respectful Recommendation for the New USS Enterprise
by Ensign Zenon A. Kar, C.P.M.V., aboard Dimensional Defense Vessel Gansett
To whom it may concern:
Having spent the last few weeks here and assisting Starfleet Command and the Federation rebuild following the Frontier Day Disaster, I believe I have a grasp of what makes Starfleet what it is, was and shall always be.
One of the things that keeps Starfleet in the hearts and minds of those I have been blessed to work alongside since we arrived here almost a month ago is the presence of a USS Enterprise helping expand the scientific knowledge and defensive capabilities of this Federation to the unknown parts of the galaxy. Unfortunately, there is currently no USS Enterprise in service, due to the destruction of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-F and the loss of her commander, Rear Admiral Elizabeth Shelby, in the Frontier Day Disaster.
However, I have a suggestion to resolve this issue.
It is not unprecedented to rename an existing Federation starship to be a part of the Enterprise lineage, or so my research has told me. It has, apparently, happened twice.
In 2286, the Constitution-class starship USS Yorktown under the command of Captain Vijay Armitraj, was neutralized by the cetacean probe that threatened Earth. After being refit, Starfleet Command decided that rather than put the Yorktown back into service under that name, it would be renamed as the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A and given to newly-demoted Captain James T. Kirk and his senior crew as a thank you for their action in saving Earth from the cetacean probe.
Then, in 2371, following the original destruction of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D after a sneak attack by the renegade Klingons Lursa and B'Etor (the latter of whom sounds like my mom based on the records I have examined, but I digress) at planet Viridian III, Starfleet decided to rename the Sovereign-class USS Honorius to become the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E.
I believe that the best course of action to fill this vacancy in the Fleet roster would be to rename an existing vessel to be the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-G. And it just so happens that I have a stellanarious idea.
Currently undergoing reconstruction at Probert Station is the USS Titan NCC-80102-A, a starship that proved its worth—first in the battles with Vadic and then in the Frontier Day Incident. She already has a new commander—Captain Seven of Nine—and a command crew who stands ready for a new adventure.
I respectfully recommend that the USS Titan NCC-80102-A be renamed the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-G. She has certainly earned the honor.
Respectfully,
Ensign Zenon A. Kar, C.P.M.V.

"What do you think, Kirsten?" a fellow admiral asked, holding up a PADD with Zenon's letter on it.
"I must admit that Ensign Kar has a point," Clancy said. "And I have had the same idea myself—to name another ship as the Enterprise-G."
Clancy then turned to a dark-skinned Vulcan admiral. "Bring Captain Seven and Ensign Kar here, Tuvok. Dismissed," Clancy said.

Ensign Zenon Kar's Quarters
Zenon was sitting down to eat a quick lunch when the door chime into her quarters rang. "Come in," Zenon said.
The door slid open, revealing Admiral Tuvok. "Peace and long life, Ensign Kar. I am Admiral Tuvok," Tuvok said. "May I come in?"
"Live long and prosper, Admiral Tuvok," Zenon said. "Please do."
Tuvok walked in, the doors sliding shut behind him. "I have been asked by Admiral Kirsten Clancy, Starfleet's commander-in-chief, to bring you to a meeting with her and Captain Seven of Nine regarding the letter you sent to the Federation News Service," Tuvok said. "Are you free right now?"
"Of course, Admiral," Zenon said. "Shall we go?"
Fifteen minutes later, after retrieving Seven from the Titan, Tuvok, Zenon and Seven walked into Admiral Clancy's office. "Thank you, Tuvok," Clancy said. Tuvok nodded, then exited Clancy's office.
Clancy then gestured for Zenon and Seven to sit down. "Captain Seven, Ensign Kar, thank you for coming to this meeting," Clancy said.
"What, may I ask, is this meeting about, Admiral?" Seven asked.
"Admiral Tuvok mentioned that this was about the letter I sent to the Federation News Service—about possibly renaming the Titan-A as the Enterprise-G," Zenon said.
"Exactly," Clancy said. "Even before reading your letter this morning, Ensign, I had contemplated renaming the Titan-A to the Enterprise-G. But the recommendation of the youngest-ever recipient of the Christopher Pike Medal sealed the deal for me."
Clancy held up a PADD. Both Zenon and Seven could see the document on its screen, which read "Starfleet Order 7-Gamma-4-882: Renaming United Star Ship Titan NCC-80102-A to United Star Ship Enterprise NCC-1701-G."
She then signed the document. "Captain Seven, congratulations," Clancy said, standing and extending her hand. "If you want it, the job of commanding the new Enterprise is yours."
"Thank you, sir," Seven said before shaking Clancy's hand.
"And to you, Ensign, I would like to add your name to the Enterprise-G's dedication plaque as her chief sponsor," Clancy said.
"It would be my honor, Admiral Clancy," Zenon said before shaking Clancy's hand.
The next day, Zenon was walking through the corridors of the Gansett heading back to her quarters from a shift on the Bridge, when a Starfleet cadet walked up to her. "Ensign Kar, I have a delivery for you from Admiral Clancy, ma'am," the cadet said.
Zenon looked down and saw that the cadet held a parcel nestled in the crook of his arm. "Thank you, Cadet..." Zenon said, not knowing the cadet's name.
"Elnor, ma'am," the cadet said before handing Zenon the parcel. "And on behalf of my fellow cadets, I would like to thank you and your people in the Scarlett Army for saving us all from the Borg."
"You are welcome, Cadet Elnor," Zenon said. "Dismissed."
Elnor nodded, then walked away. As soon as Elnor walked out of sight, Zenon reached her quarters. She then opened the parcel, revealing a replica of the dedication plaque that was to be installed on the Enterprise-G.
"Cetus-Lupeedus," Zenon said when she saw her name under the heading "Starfleet Operations." A slight tear began to fall from her face.
Suddenly, Zenon's reverie was interrupted by the Tactical Alert klaxon. "Tactical Alert! All senior staff to the Bridge!" William's voice called out.
Zenon tossed the plaque on her bed, then ran out of her quarters.
