Cherry Pies and Backwards Baseball Hats
Chapter ELEVEN
BPOV
I sat in the employee lounge on my break. It was my first one of the day. The room was entirely too quiet for my liking. It made me think, and lately it's been about everything that's happened the last two weeks that has changed my life forever.
I found out that I'm pregnant, which is the biggest topic at hand. Then I got engaged, which is absolutely one of the best feelings ever. With just the engagement ring on my finger, I felt like a completely different person. Out of the two, finding out I was pregnant had me on the fence with my feelings. I was afraid of what Mason would think. I kept thinking of the worst case scenario. I hated doing it, but I needed a plan if Mason decided that he didn't want this life anymore. Then I felt stupid for even thinking about stuff like that.
I had to push all that away until Esme was done with my ultrasound. As soon as she was finished, I knew exactly when I got pregnant. We had so much to look forward to now.
First things first, Mason got moved in with me. Some of the furniture he had, we switched with pieces I didn't care too much for. My downstairs living room was finally completely furnished, so whatever we didn't want, went to the carport sale we had the Sunday after we finally got through moving stuff around. Thankfully, Emmett and Eric came to help considering I couldn't lift anything heavy.
There were less than a handful that knew about the pregnancy. We decided to wait until second trimester before we tell anyone. We just wanted to be on the safe side, just in case.
I was at the end of my 12th week, and it really hadn't sank in about the baby, but I'm pretty sure the moment I can see my belly expanding, that'll be the moment I know it's all real. I wanted to make the announcement soon because I was starting to feel guilty that we hadn't shared it with anyone yet. The news we did share was that Mason and I are getting married.
When I told my dad, he said that Mason actually asked his permission. That made my heart melt into a pile of goo. In true Whitlock terms, he's such a gentleman.
Then I needed to have a chat with Grandpa Chief. That man never ceases to amaze me. He had said I would be pregnant by Christmas, and I laughed about it when I climbed into my car after my appointment. Then on the way home, I was listening to the radio and singing along to the songs I knew. Then an advertisement started about a huge Christmas in July sale that was happening at a Ford Dealership. I had to pull over because I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Grandpa Chief's prediction just literally creeped me out because that truly was the first time I was witness to his clairvoyance.
"Bella?" I turned to see Carlisle. "Are you okay? You've been in here a while."
"Crap!" I exclaimed and stood up faster than I should have. "I'm so sorry, Carlisle. My head got away from me."
"No problem. You have two patients waiting to see you." If I have to go through this for the rest of my pregnancy, then I was in a world of hurt.
"Crap!" I said again. "I'm going now. I'm so, so, sorry."
Carlisle chuckled at me. "It's called pregnancy brain, honey."
I stopped dead in my tracks. "Esme told you?"
He shook his head. "Nah, nothing like that. I was waiting on the ultrasound room when I saw you and Esme coming out, so when I entered the room, your screenshot of the baby was still on the screen."
"We're not telling anyone yet. Emmett especially because he could let it slip to Rosalie then she'd tell Alice who'll tell Lizzy. It'll cause a domino effect and we're not ready for that yet."
Carlisle placed his hand on my shoulder. "I understand, sweetheart. No one will find out from me or Esme." We stopped just outside the room where a patient waited for me. "Congratulations."
"Thank you. We're pretty excited."
"Good," he said. "Babies are a blessing."
I walked into the first room and found none other than Rosalie waiting on me. "Hi, Rosalie."
"Hi, Bella," she responded. "How are you?"
"I'm doing pretty good. Does Emmett know you're here?"
She shook her head shyly. "No." She looked down to the floor. She's very beautiful with perky breasts, fairly slim waistline with the perfect amount of hips and ass to get any guy she wants, but she wants Emmett just as much as he wants her.
"What am I seeing you for today?" I opened my laptop and found her file and began to scan over it.
"I need to get on birth control." She looked down at her hands and started picking at her cuticles.
I glanced up at her. "That's not a problem. Which kind were you thinking of using?" I started typing into her chart.
"I want the shot," she replied.
I nodded. "Okay. I just need you to answer a few questions."
"I'm a virgin," she blurts out before I could ask her anything.
My eyes widened. "Okay. I guess that answers one of my questions." I typed that into the computer under any sexual partners as zero.
I went on to ask her about her last period, her daily activities, and future plans of pregnancy, and if she takes any other medication. Then I took her blood pressure, her heart rate and listened to her heart then her lungs. Everything sounded normal, making her very healthy.
"If you plan on having intercourse within the first seven days after the shot, make sure you use other protection. If, at all, you feel like you're having any form of reaction or any other symptoms that are listed in the brochure, just call us. That may result in a change of the method you'll use.
She nodded letting me know she understood what I was saying. "Please don't tell Emmett I'm doing this."
"Whatever we talk about in this room is between us. I'm not at liberty to share that information with anyone due to Hippa. Besides, I'm not that type of person anyway. This is your news to share, not mine." I finished up typing information into her file then turned back to her. "If you need anything, not as my patient, you have my number."
"Thank you, Bella. It's just, I've never dated an older man and Emmett definitely doesn't act like an older man when he's away from work. He's everything I never thought I needed in my life. I want to marry him and have his babies someday." Then she chuckled. "You know he wants six kids?"
I chuckled to myself. "Emmett will be a great dad to one kid and even better to six."
"Maybe I should hold off on the birth control and start while I'm young."
"If that's something you really, and truly want to do, then you can do that. You just let me know." I gave her a serious look.
"No. I'm still in school. I have a year before I graduate, then after that I'll be headed to pharmacy school. That's another three to four years."
I put my hand on her shoulder much like Carlisle just recently did to me. "Sweetie, you're only 21. In four years you'll be 25. My opinion, get your college career out of the way then you could have all the babies you want. You might regret it if you don't."
"I know. You just gave me something to think about." She slid down off the exam table.
"Emmett will listen," I tell her then turn for the door. "Let me get your injection and I'll be right back."
I headed to our meds center and checked out her injection. Emmett caught me just before I entered the room where Rosalie was. "Hey, you and Mason busy Friday night?"
"I don't think so, but I'll have to ask him. You have something in mind?"
"Just the usual. Dinner, a movie then drinks. Maybe go bowling. We're not much into the club scene. I wanted to go to Christopher's; Rosie's never been."
I raised my brows at him. "That's a pricey spot."
"My Rosie's worth it." He smiled then looked down at my hand. "I'll let you get back to your patient; just let me know about Friday."
"You got it."
When Emmett walked away, I entered the room to see Rosalie crying. "What's wrong?" I rushed to her side.
"I heard you two; he's such a great guy. How'd I get so lucky?"
"Look, the shot's only good for three months, so if you change your mind, you don't have to get another one."
She nodded and dropped one side of her shorts where I administered the shot into her hip. "I'll see you in three months, either way, okay."
Esme had recommended a good OB for me, so my next appointment was coming up. It was going to be my 16 week check-up. It was getting harder and harder to keep our news from our family, but I wanted to find out what we were having when we finally tell them. Mason was so excited, and once my appointment rolled around, his uncle didn't have a problem giving him the time off to go with me.
So, four weeks later the appointment we have been waiting for was finally upon us. It felt like I was bouncing all over the place because my anticipation was starting to go haywire. "I hope they can see if it's a boy or girl today. Either way, it's time to tell our families about the baby."
"I know," I said sadly because was I really was starting to feel bad. We really didn't intend to keep my pregnancy a secret for so long. "If you couldn't tell, I didn't sleep very well last night."
"Is it just an ultrasound, or is there other stuff that they'll be doing?" Bless his heart; Mason was trying so hard to keep up with all of my appointments. He was always making sure I was okay, and pretty much waiting on me hand and foot.
"I'm pretty sure it's just a check-up and the ultrasound, so there's no real reason for me to get undressed today."
Mason nuzzled his nose into my neck. "I can think of a few reasons."
Of course, the goosebumps spread over my body like wildfire. "Don't start something that I can't finish, right now. I'll take care of you in the truck on the way home."
"I get road head?" He asked in a surprised tone.
I placed my hand over his crotch. "Yes because you'll be eating my pie when we get home."
"Oh snap!" He groped my left but cheek. "Let's hurry and get this appointment done and over with."
Fifteen minutes later, I was being called back. Mason followed behind me until I needed to step on the scale. According to the last time I was weighed, I've only gained six pounds. "Shouldn't you be gaining more weight?"
"Eh," I shrugged my shoulders and looked over at my future husband. "It's all good, right now."
I peed in a cup then we were led back to a room to wait on the doctor. "No need to get undressed. We don't start doing that until your third trimester."
"Yeah, I'm a Nurse practitioner, so I know a few medical things." I shrugged my shoulders.
The N.P that was taking all of my vitals laughed a little. "I'd say you do." She closed her laptop and started for the door. "Dr. Hale will be in here shortly."
Mason couldn't keep his hands to himself as soon as the N.P left the room. He was so relentless that he was quick enough to slip his hand up my shorts and felt me up. He even got as far as pushing two of his fingers inside of me and pumping them a few times before we heard someone talking outside the door. He moved away from me real fast and sat down to try and hide his very prominent erection.
"I'm not done with you," he warned me. "You're lucky the doctor is coming in."
I pulled my lips between my teeth to keep from smiling at Mason and his very promising threat.
A minute or so later, a lady in her mid to late forties came walking in and sat her laptop down on the counter. "Hi. I'm Dr. Hale, but you can call me Lily if you'd like. Esme speaks very highly of you."
"She's great. I couldn't ask for a better boss." I sat with my hands clasped in my lap.
Dr. Hale scanned over my chart on her laptop. "All righty. Looks like you're moving along pretty good. You're three days into you 16th week." She typed a few things in before reaching for the fetal Doppler. She noticed Mason sitting next to me in the chair. "Hi, dad. It's good to see you."
"I'll be here every appointment if I can." He moved closer so he could watch what she was doing. "We should buy one of those."
"You can get one on Amazon. That's where I got the one I have at home," Dr. Hale said just as she placed the tiny machine against my stomach. She found the heartbeat right away and listened to it for a minute. "It's 148 today, and it sounds good."
She helped me pull my shirt down then sit up. I had noticed when I was laying down that I had a small baby bump, and I was pretty damn sure that Mason saw it, too. "Ultrasound time," I said. "Will this be my only one, or do you do anymore before the due date?"
"I usually want one more before the due date so we can get a visual to make sure they're in the right position, and to check on their organs to make sure they're ready, as well."
"That's cool." I said then hopped down from the exam table.
Dr. Hale picked up her laptop. "There a waiting room right outside of the ultrasound room. You can have a seat there and they'll call you in. I'll see you two next month."
Mason followed me over to the small waiting area and plopped down in the chair next to me. "Don't think I didn't notice your belly has a little bump now."
I smiled up at him. "I noticed too. We're gonna have to tell everyone before I get too big. How about this weekend?"
"Let's see if we can see what we're having, and we'll talk about it on our way home." He then took my hand. "I don't know about you, but I'm pretty excited about this, and I'm pretty confident that we're having a boy."
I chuckled. "Don't be so sure. You never know, we may get cursed with all girls."
"If that's going to be the case, I think I'll keep my house so I can go hide over there."
I had just raised my hand to smack Mason when my name was called. "Arabella."
We stood to go into the room. "You can call me Bella."
"Well, Bella, you can hop up on the table and pull you shirt up and push your pants down. You're far enough along that we don't need to do a trans-vaginal."
"Good." I climbed up and laid back. Mason stood next to me and waited patiently.
The goop that she squirted onto my belly was really warm then she tucked a paper cloth into the waistband of my pants. I was thankful that there was a TV mounted on the wall that they used as a monitor. I could see what was going on the moment she stuck the device onto my belly. She made a few adjustments on the keyboard, and then we could see our baby.
I reached up and took Mason's hand as we saw our baby come into view. They had the perfect little head and we could see hands and feet. The heartbeat came in clear as day. "Will you be doing an anatomy scan?"
"Yes." I answered immediately. They had asked on my last appointment, and I was going to have it done then, but there was an issue with my health insurance covering the procedure. "They finally got it all worked out."
The technician kept moving the wand around and typing stuff into the computer as she rolled the cursor back and forth on the screen. "Are you wanting to know the sex today if I can see it?"
"Yes," Me and Mason said at once.
"Well, there's definitely only one baby in there, and it looks like you're going to be parents to a boy."
"I knew it," Mason said. "I knew it, I knew it, I knew it." He had the biggest grin I have ever seen on his face.
"Congratulations." The tech pushed a few more buttons then we could hear the printer going.
On the way out, I made sure to make my next appointment. We had planned to stop for food on our way home then Mason was going into work. I had the day off because it was Friday. We were too excited for me to initiate giving him road head on the way home.
We stopped at a Filberto's and got some Horchata and two bean and cheese burritos. I was beginning to crave Mexican food like crazy.
We were sitting at the kitchen table eating when Mason spoke. "So, when do you want to get married?"
"Are you in a hurry to get married?" I took another huge bite then glanced up at him. "I'm not in a hurry, if that's what you're wondering."
"I thought that maybe we could get married before the baby is born." He finished his food and rolled up his wrapper then stood to take it to the garbage can in the pantry.
I was stunned for a few seconds. "It'll have to be soon before I get as big as a house."
"Then lets have a makeshift family meet and greet at Enchanto. We can get a Pavilion with a grill and make it a huge family affair. Make everyone think that it's our way of introducing everyone at once. We can get a gender reveal cake and get an ordained minister to marry us."
My brows shot to my hairline. "Are you serious?" I just completely lost my appetite.
"As a heart attack. We can do it in two weeks. That should be plenty of time to get stuff set up."
I stood from the table so I could re-wrap my food and save it for later. "Am I supposed to do this all myself? Neither one of us has a whole lot of time for something like this. I need help, Edward. I can't set all this up myself."
Mason walked over and wrapped his arms around me. "There's always Tanya, right."
"Normally, I would ask Jake, but who the hell knows when he's coming home. I really don't want to get married without him here. He'll never let me live that down." I laid my head against his chest. "I guess I can send him an email. That seems like the only way to get in touch with him."
I felt Mason kiss the top of my head. "Okay, look. Maybe we can tell my uncle Al. If I remember correctly, he's licensed to marry people. Maybe we can get him and Vicky to help?"
I contemplated what he was suggesting. "And you're wanting this to happen in two weeks?"
"If we can get it all set up by then, we'll just have to hope nobody has other plans. We'll just have to make sure that they know that's there's going to be a big announcement."
I looked up at him. "Let me think about it. I'll let you know when you get home tonight. I'm going to email Jake and see if he can get his ass home."
He leaned down and kissed me. "Okay. I gotta get going." He kissed me again. "I'll see you when I get home." And another kiss. "I love you and little man."
Mason left a few minutes later leaving me to my own devices. So, I pulled my laptop out and sat on the couch after I changed and emailed my best friend. The moment he finds out what is going on, he'll be on the next plane home. I know him like the back of my hand, and he'll string me up by my big toe if I got married without him.

Subject: When are you coming home?
Dear Best Friend in the whole wide world
I have news. Two of the biggest and best things to ever happen to me has happened. Both involve a man, but the second involves a baby. Yes, I'm in love and getting married, and yes, we're pregnant. I need you home! I need you as my Man of Honor. Do you want me to leave that job for Tanya? I better hear from you AS SOON AS POSSIBLE or you're shit out of luck.
YOU'VE BEEN GONE LONG ENOUGH! COME HOME NOW.
WE want to get married in TWO weeks.
Love your Ever loving best friend,
AnaB.
Jake is the only one who doesn't call me Bella; he never has and I love it that way. When we were younger, he had a hard time saying the R in my name, and it was coming out as Ana, so that's how he started calling me Ana. He added the B part when we were in middle school.
Mason was only gone a few hours. He had to be back at six on Saturday morning, so we were watching a little TV in the living room and working on what we wanted to do for our wedding and baby announcement.
"Twenty minutes and we'll have chow." Mason decided that he wanted pizza for dinner. I wasn't too hungry, so I opted for one of the salads that I could eat on for two days because there's so much of it.
"I'm inviting the Cullens, so that means Emmett, and Emmett will probably bring Rosalie, so I'll invite Alice and Jasper, too. So, I'm pretty much inviting everyone that you met at Leah's birthday." I was writing out everyone that could pass on the invitation, so I didn't have to send any out.
"That's a lot of people. I'll talk to uncle Al tomorrow. I'm sure he'd be more than happy to help us." He sat down next to me and looked over at what I was writing.
I looked over at him. "We'll need to get our marriage license. Do you think you can take a long lunch on Friday or go in late?"
"I'm sure I can." Then he smiled a mile wide. "We're really doing this?"
"We're really doing this," I confirmed. "Have you heard from the Realtor on your house?"
"Yes, crap, I forgot to tell you. The appraisal puts the house at $350,000. That's nearly $100,000 more than what I was paying for it. It's because I did a bit of remodeling and updated all the cabinets and redid the bathrooms. I put in Eco-friendly appliances and had the backyard landscaped. It has to be mowed, so I'll make sure to do that before he starts showing the house."
I shook my head. "I have no clue what mine is worth. I'm not moving anytime soon, so there's that." I wrote down another name. "You'll definitely have a pretty penny to put in your savings once it sells."
He kissed my cheek. "Don't you mean Us?"
I gave him a sideways glance. "Um...sure."
"We're going to be married before it even sells, so yes, our money. Hell, if I get the asking price, I'll pay off what bills I have, and bank the rest. We can live off that."
"Oh snap!"
Mason laughed. "You took the words right out of my mouth."
Thank you!
