Chapter Seventeen: Trust Issues

"Hey, Sammy?"

Saying Sammy felt so endearing. She smiled. "Don't think too much about what I say like this. I'm a chatterbox."

"What's going on?"

Dean stood a little awkwardly, she thought, as he joined them. Neither she nor Sam had noticed Bobby leave the room.

"Uhm, nothing," she shrugged. "Where's Cas?"

"He left. Said something about checking up on old friends. Didn't make a lot of sense."

"Oh." Reina nodded.

"You know something?" Dean asked his gaze intent upon her.

"It's something I need to tell you anyway, I just – didn't think Cas would go looking for – hang on, I'll start at the beginning."

She told the boys about Ishim and Lily, everything that she told Cas, and what happened in the episode as she'd seen it.

"Wow. Angels being dicks. Who woulda thought?" Dean said, sarcasm in his tone. "So you think Cas went looking for this Ishim character?"

"I think so," Reina said. "Can you call him? Make sure?"

"You think he'd harm Cas?" Sam asked. Trust Sam to notice the worry in her tone.

"Either him or Lily. Whoever gets there first could hurt him. At least if Lily knew, that Cas didn't know about her child – but things could be different now. I know she's right to take her revenge, but –

Reina broke off, as Dean got Cas on the phone.

"Hey, Cas. Where are you? Hm, uh-huh. So she was right – yeah, she told us. You should have taken us along. What – no, Cas, you don't have to do things alone, is what I'm saying. Just call me when you find something out or if you need a backup. Okay, yeah -

"Can I talk to him?" Reina interrupted. Dean turned around mid-sentence. "Can I please talk to him for a sec?"

"Uhm, sure." Dean handed her his phone after a two-second pause.

"Hey, Cas. – okay, yeah sure, if you have to talk to him before – no, I understand. If you don't mind, I'd like to be there. Can you tell me where you are, so Bobby and I can – But honestly, what if Lily doesn't believe you? I didn't tell you about it so you could go looking for them. Because now I don't know what happens. – Just, please let Bobby come with. Yeah, okay, we'll be there in – I don't know the distance in miles, I'll call you when we start, okay? Yeah, bye."

"He hung up?" Dean asked as he reached for his phone. "Where is he?"

"Some town _, 200 miles away. How much is that? Like, how many hours to cover?" She asked. "I do distance in Kilometers, not miles." She answered the confusion on Dean's face. "Should take you about 2-3 hours or so."

"Good. I'll get Bobby and we should get going." She moved to go to Bobby when Dean suddenly held her back by her elbow. "Whoa, whoa, hold on. One minute ago, it was, I'm not ready to go on a hunt, and suddenly it's Cas needs my help?"

"I – uh," Reina didn't know what to say. "it's not like that."

"Seems to me like you have a problem with me," Dean said.

"Dean." Sam sighed. "Don't –

"Don't what, Sammy? Don't say what I really think? She's got something going on in her mind, and we just up and trust her? We basically have no proof of her story, no proof at all. She could be lying. And we're gearing up to go on a hunt because she knows a few details. It could be a trap for all we know. Hell, Cas could be walking in a trap - He's going out there on her information."

Dean looked around to vent the anger building up, and Sam just helplessly stared between him and Reina, unable to stop the situation from escalating.

Dean's voice was up a few notches now, and he stood directly in front of Reina. "How are you just – so okay," he spoke the words like a dirty insult. "It's like you've lived this life before. Stop lying and tell me, what you're doing here."

"Go to hell." Reina's voice was seething with anger. Sam stared at her in disbelief, a feeling she shared herself. She couldn't believe she was angry with Dean. "Oh no, wait, you've already been."

"You know what, you're right, Dean. I do have a problem. Ever since I've come here, you're only ever angry. I get it. I'm a case, and you don't really need me.

But right now, Cas is out there because of me, and hell if I'm letting anything happen to him. If you want to stop me from going to Cas, lock me up or something – otherwise get out of my way." She stormed away, blinking back tears.

.

.

.

"Hey!" Sam's shout brought Dean into focus.

"What? Don't tell me you're on her side." Dean retorted.

"You don't really believe she's lying. You're just scared that she's handling it so well. You're waiting for her spiral." Sam said evenly. "She's trying, Dean. She is. You – you gotta - Sam ran his hands through his hair.

"I don't understand her, Sammy. It – makes no sense." Dean paced as he talked, his anger fizzling out, as he started to look at it logically. "She is -

"What? She's more together? She's calm? She's not freaking out? That's not - You need to talk to her. Now!" Sam pointed towards the way Reina had walked out.

"What am I going to say?" Dean looked deflated. His anger was gone because he realized what Sam was saying was right. But obstinate as he was, he still held on to his distrust because that was his reaction to life.

But right now, he knew he'd crossed a line – she was here, trusting them, and he had just thrown it back in her face. He ignored Sam's judgmental look. "Fine, I'll – go talk to her." He said in a low voice.

.

Dean caught Reina and Bobby just as they were leaving. He ran to them as they got in the car. "Hey, wait up!"

"Dean? What is it?" Bobby poked his head out of the window. "Uh, I –

Dean didn't know how to say anything in front of Bobby. He looked at Reina, who sat with - was that a book? A book in her hands, her face buried in it.

"I just – call us if you need any help, okay?"

"Yeah, sure. You boys be safe out there. Call me if you need help. The kid probably could know a few things." Bobby looked at Reina and was a little surprised at her blank, taut face. "Yeah," She mumbled, not looking at him or Dean.

"O-okay," Bobby rolled his eyes. Something had definitely happened after he'd left the room - but it didn't seem like the time to ask. Dean watched the car peeling out of the garage, disappointed that he didn't get to talk to her.
