The barracks were cold and dark, as if some black cloud was looming over us. They were quiet too, unusually quiet, this night was different. Something gave me the impression that Rebel was still awake, her mind was active, swirling with thoughts. Suddenly, her voice broke the silence, "Hey, wanna go get something from the kitchen?" she tried to whisper. Finally something to do, I was restless after all of the fighting that had broken out over the past few days. "I thought you'd never ask." I whispered back playful but relieved on the inside. I heard a small chuckle from her as she stood from her bottom bunk. She started across the long rows of sleeping troopers to the store room, not waiting for me. She must be really hungry, I thought, smiling. I hopped down from my top bed and hurried after her to catch up. She looked behind to see me following her closely, tiptoeing. We passed the Chancellor's office on our way, more careful now than ever, even though it was late at night and he was likely to be at home safely guarded by Commander Fox, we still wanted to stand straight and be on our best behavior. Slowly, as we grew closer to the double door entrance we heard a whispering, it sounded sinister, not like they were trying to not wake someone up, but like they were trying to hide something. My hand went to my blaster, resting in my holster, ready with stun blasts. I was prepared to tell Rebel to go to the other side of the opening to the office and we'd surprise the intruder from both sides, cornering them, but there was something familiar about this voice, it was slight but it sounded like someone I'd heard before, someone with a good speaking voice, like Palpatine. We were finally close enough to make out the words. "Everything is falling into place, soon enough, after the clones are practically brainwashed, the Jedi will fall and the Empire will rise. The dark side will over power with two words… Order 66." I gasped pretty loudly, Rebel put her hand over my mouth, or else I would've screamed. I was in shock but could definitely make out one emotion, fear. I wondered if he heard me. I panicked and ran back to my bed, I leaped up top, not caring if I was hungry or not. I needed to know, so many things, racing through my mind, not forming complete thoughts. What if that actually was Palpatine? Who was he talking to? Would the Jedi be able to stop this? One thing was for sure though, we couldn't let this happen.
