Chris swiped away the screen with a sigh. "I need to get some new skills. Why is this quest so difficult?"
[Condition to copy skill
Law is incapable of trusting most people due to the way he grew up, get him to trust you with his life.]
"You'd think after three years of being part of this crew, he'd trust me by now. I should've known he'd have some serious trust issues."
"Chris-ya!" Law called. "Bepo is complaining about food again."
"On my way!" Chris answered as he left his room, greeting the others in the kitchen. "Bepo, can't you just eat raw fish? You're a polar bear."
Bepo looked down. "Sorry."
"He's only joking." Penguin laughed.
"Sorry." Bepo apologized again.
"So Chris, what's for breakfast?" Shachi asked.
"Fish."
"We've been eating fish for a week now." Penguin whined.
"Bepo seems to like it." Chris laughed.
"Sorry."
"Seriously Bepo, you shouldn't be the one apologizing. If anything it should be these two idiots begging on their knees." Chris conjured a small flame in his hands, using it to sear the fish.
"It has been awhile since we surfaced for some real food." Law noted. "Let's stop by the next island for a restock, finally get some fresh vegetables."
Shachi let out a sigh of relief. "Finally, it's been weeks."
"So what's the name of the closest island?" Chris asked.
"Inferno island, it's protected by its two island guards and their king Blaze." Law informed them. "The name Blaze is an inherited name, one of power like Shade and Arrow, his two guards."
"Knowledgeable as ever Law." Chris praised him.
"Bepo, you're up." Law announced.
"Right Captain!" Bepo saluted. "It's not far from here, I'll start the navigation now."
"Yeah before all that, can we just sit down and eat?" Chris asked. "I did not go through all this effort for you guys to skip out on a meal."
"I don't wanna." Penguin turned away. "I'm waiting for the real meat."
"Oh please, penguins love fish." Shachi snickered.
"Shachi, brush up on your jokes." Law stated flatly. "They're not funny."
"What?! I'm a natural born comedian, the ladies love me." Shachi retorted.
Chris laughed. "In case you haven't noticed, Shachi, this ship is a huge sausage fest."
"So?"
Penguin patted him on his back. "It means no one here loves you or your jokes."
"Everyone off." Law ordered as he fixed a smile onto his face.
"Maybe it's time you're more genuine about your attitude." Chris suggested. "Always the fake smile, you don't have to do that."
"Playing the role of a crazy pirate is pretty fun." Law told him. "You should try it some time."
As the submarine reached the surface the five pirates jumped off the ship. The island let off a bright blue glow as flames burned all around, off in the distance was a solitary volcano with blue lava always leaking from the top, ready to erupt at any moment. The town was lit up and the citizens were at peace, at least until they saw Law.
"Pirates!" A man yelled. "Pirates are attacking."
In an instant the quintet was surrounded by soldiers. "Leave pirate scum!"
Chris took a step forward. "We're just here to stock up on food, we'll pay of c-" He was interrupted when the head of the man he was talking to flew into the air. "Law! Seriously?"
"He killed the commander! Fire!" The soldiers began to unload much to Chris's dismay.
A spherical shield appeared around our resident gamer, the bullets simply bouncing off. 'Why?' Chris thought. 'He was never this reckless and sadistic in the anime.'
Law began to playfully juggle the heads of his unfortunate victims. "Room." He began slicing up his victims and spinning them around in circles before eventually putting them back together, they all looked fairly normal, by one piece standards, but their limbs weren't their own.
The soldiers began running in circles causing Shachi to laugh. "Seriously Captain, you don't hold back."
"Law, are you done?" Chris asked impatiently. "We need to get the food, remember?"
Law shrugged as he cut them all up again and set them back to normal. "Ready to negotiate?" He asked them with a smile.
The commander's headless body was still running around, his head safe in Bepo's paws. "The bear is going to eat me!" He yelled.
Bepo looked down in shame. "Captain."
"Oh sorry Bepo." Law apologized, using his fruit to attach the man's head back to his body.
"Maybe we should call the king." One of the soldiers whispered. "These pirates are too strong."
Chris sighed heavily. "We just want to buy some fucking food!"
"Geez guys, always so uptight." A girl barged through the crowd, daggers on her waist. "It's not like they're gonna kill us." Behind her was a girl who looked exactly like the first but she held a bow instead and her hair was black instead of white, she remained silent. "Names Hazel, next in line for shade. This is my sister Lani, she's meant to become Arrow."
The silent girl smiled at the group. "A pleasure." She said almost silently.
"She's not good with strangers." Hazel explained. "She'll open up though."
"They're cute." Shachi whispered to Penguin.
"Go talk to them." Penguin whispered back. "Women love your jokes, remember?"
"You go talk to them, I remember you saying something about how much girls loved penguins." Shachi shot back.
Chris smiled. "We need some food, the two idiots back there are getting tired of eating fish."
"Idiots?!" The two shouted in indignation.
"Well if you have the cash you're welcome to follow me into town." Hazel gestured towards the road. "Though if you try anything." In a moment she vanished, appearing behind Bepo with a dagger to his throat. "The bear gets it."
Bepo looked down in shame again. "Bepo." Law ordered. Instantly his expression changed as a kick flashed out knocking the blade from her hands and a swift palm strike sent her flying into a nearby wall. "We're not some weakling wannabes." Law told her. "If we tried something, I don't think you could handle it, Hazel-ya."
"I'm liking you guys already." Hazel smirked standing up from the rubble as the soldiers rushed to make sure she was okay.
"Damn it." Shachi cursed. "If this goes on much longer, Captain is going to get this girl too."
"Yea." Penguin nodded. "Then he just ignores them, if he at least tried dating it wouldn't be so damn annoying."
Lani approached Chris offering to show him around while the others were occupied. "Thanks, if I have to spend another second with these idiots, I might have to burn them." Chris laughed as he followed after her.
"Hold on Chris." Bepo called out as he ran after him.
"So, you guys looking for a fight?" Hazel asked. "There's a coliseum of sorts not far from here, there's always people there."
Law shrugged. "Why not, these two can use it to test their skills." Law smiled at the two who were still bickering over the disappearance of Chris and the other girl. "Don't disappoint me."
"This is the school, we make sure the kids know simple navigation and the basics of how to fight." Lani and Chris were walking down the street as she introduced the different buildings and decor.
"Training kids to fight at such a young age?" Chris asked. "It's strange that the soldiers are so weak."
Lani smiled. "It's a new tradition, issued by our king."
"That's a weird thing to do? Is there a need for new soldiers?"
Lani nodded. "We're at war with a nearby island, at night a bridge of rock connects the two and the soldiers go out to fight. It's been this way since a few years ago when their new ruler rose to the throne." She explained. "It's called Stone island. Their customs are similar to ours but their king is greedy for more power."
"Does he see himself as some sort of god?"
"Both of our rulers are logia users." Lani informed him. "Though we have a second as part of our guard, King Rock believes he can take over the world if he could take all three for himself."
'Three logias in one place, no wonder these kings have remained in power for so long.' Chris thought to himself.
"Here we are." Lani gestured towards a road of stores. "This is the market, feel free to buy whatever you need."
Shachi and Penguin jumped back, narrowly avoiding a huge blast of air from their opponent. "Come on pipsqueaks, stop running." The man roared.
"How the hell does he do that?" Shachi asked.
"He must have some serious lung capacity." Penguin noted. "Besides, can't you do the same with water?"
"Yea but doing it with air is nearly impossible." Shachi told him.
The two rushed at the man again, dodging another compressed air blast as they each went in for a kick. Penguin was grabbed by the leg and slammed into the ground while Shachi circled around kicking the giant man. "Too weak!" The man roared as he grabbed Shachi and slammed the two into each other like loafs of bread before throwing them across the clearing. "You're going to need more than that to beat me!" A cone of wind crashed into the two sending them crashing into the wall of the coliseum.
Shachi got up slowly, relocating his dislocated arm expertly before glaring at the larger man. "We're doctors not fighters." He growled.
"Yea." Penguin cut in. "If Bepo was here your face would already be buried in the sand."
"You two." Law called out threateningly. "I said not to disappoint me, surely this isn't all you have to offer."
Shachi and Penguin nodded to each other, ready to go all out to satisfy Law. They knew he didn't care whether they lost or not, their crew were doctors. Even Chris was skillful in his own line of treatment, always careful when cauterizing a wound. Even so, they felt that they would never amount to anything more than weaklings if they couldn't live up to the expectations set upon them now.
"You ready?" Shachi asked.
"Yea!" Penguin responded, the two starting another charge.
This time when the man attacked they skillfully dodged and began attacking the slower man, hitting only in vital areas, places where the skin was soft despite how much they trained. Places like the neck, which unless you were a freak of nature you'd be hurt pretty badly, also it took care of the problem concerning the man's massive lung capacity.
His hands instinctively flew up to try and catch his breath, Shachi and Penguin swept his feet from under him as the large man fell to the ground. "The bigger they are…" Shachi started.
"The harder they fall." Penguin finished as the two high-fived.
Law smirked. "Good job, now maybe when you can take him on one on one you may be considered half competent fighters."
"We're doctors." Shachi reiterated.
"So am I." Law reminded them. "So is Chris and so is Bepo, we're all doctors."
"Impressive." Hazel praised. "A pirate crew made up of doctors."
"I don't really see the point." Chris said as he walked up, a bag of food in his hand meant for a quick lunch. "I mean, we're pirates. It's not like we go around healing people on every island we stop at."
"Captain." Bepo called as he walked over to his side.
Hazel smiled ruffling the polar bear's fur. "A cute thing aren't ya, who would want a weak dog when you can have a stronger animal as a pet."
"Bepo isn't a pet." Lani corrected her. "He's not an animal either."
"Well he certainly ain't human."
"Sorry." Bepo apologized.
"He's a mink." Law informed them. "A mixture of the two."
Before Hazel or Lani could ask more, shouting was heard in the distance as the commander from the beach ran up to the two. "Hazel! Lani! They're dying."
"Who's dying?" Hazel asked.
"Shade and Arrow." The man answered. "You're being called to inherit the abilities."
"They can't die yet." Lani argued. "This is too soon, you guys are doctors right?" She turned to Law's group. "Can't you help them?"
Law simply stood there smiling, not fazed by the question. "Sure, why not."
"What happened to them?" Chris asked.
"They were poisoned in the last battle." The commander informed him. "One of their guardian fruits allows the user to control poisonous spiders."
"I can deal with the poison." Law told them.
"Thank you." Lani bowed to him.
The group made their way towards the castle where they were greeted by a man around late forties, he led them to a room where two more men were laying in separate beds coughing. "I'm king Blaze." The man told them. "The fruits are ready if they happen to die." On the bed next to the two men were two separate fruits, the men had their hands placed on it. "As long as they're hand remains on the fruit, when they die the abilities will pass on into them."
"They're not gonna die." Lani protested. "Right Law?"
Law walked up to shade, creating a room in the process as he cut him. "What the hell are you doing?!" Hazel yelled as she ran at him with her blades drawn.
Chris jumped in front of her, redirecting her attack. "Calm down, he's trying to help."
Law sighed. "I can't help him." He told them as the man's body reformed. "My abilities don't work on logia users. I can help him though." He said preparing to cut Arrow.
"No." Arrow denied him. "If my brother dies I will die with him."
While Chris explained Law's fruit, Hazel and Lani walked up to the two men as they took their final breath. The fruits in their hand shifted, one turning blue with arrow-like markings and the other turning a shadow-like purple and black. "I apologize for the way Shade treated you."
Upon hearing that name, Hazel turned around, fury in her eyes. "No!" She yelled. "I'm not him, I won't accept that name!"
"You must." Blaze told her. "He was your teacher, all his lessons will go to waste if you don't accept."
"I don't need it." She growled. "I'll kill her myself! That spider bitch is going to die tonight." Hazel ran out the room, Lani closely behind though noticeably she already accepted the fruit.
"I'm sorry we were unable to help." Chris apologized.
"It's alright." Blaze waved it off.
"Captain, what should we do?" Shachi asked.
"There's a battle tonight." Law reminded them. "Let's run wild, Blaze-ya?"
Blaze shook his head. "We can't accept help from outsiders, this is our battle."
Chris pressed on. "Then at least allow us to heal the injured."
Blaze nodded. "Alright."
"Please follow me." Blaze told them. "The battle will begin any minute now."
The crew of doctors nodded, running after the man as he dashed out of the room.
Later on that night, a rocky bridge emerged from the water connecting one island to the next on a long path. "I'm going!" Hazel announced as she rushed out.
"I'll cover you." Lani told her as she moved to high ground where her bow would be most effective.
Hazel began picking up speed as the enemy warriors came into view. "What the?!" One of them yelled in shock from the sudden confrontation, in a moment his neck was bleeding out.
"You bastards!" Hazel yelled as she danced through the crowd at rapid pace, bodies dropping as she pressed onward. One man tried to attack her from behind but was met with an arrow to the back. "Where the hell is that fucking spider?!"
Arrows began raining from the sky clearing a path for Hazel as she pushed onward. A man fell from the sky crashing onto the bridge with a crooked grin. "Hey there little shadow."
"Titan." Hazel growled.
"You're not getting past me." He told her.
"You wanna bet?" Hazel asked as she dashed in aiming for his shin.
Titan dodged the slow blade and swung at her with full force, Hazel jumped on top of his arm and sent a kick to his jaw. Titan regained his composure and unleashed a rapid flurry of blows with no regard for his aim. Hazel easily dodged the attacks and threw her dagger which bounced off his skin falling near his cheek. With a well timed kick her heel made contact with the blade and pierced Titan's cheek. She hurriedly pulled out the blade as she took a slash at his chest, he took the attack and grabbed her by her arm.
"That's enough." He roared as he slammed her into the ground at full force. "A weak little shadow like you shouldn't be attempting to fight a guard."
Arrows rained down from the sky, all of them not even cutting through Titan's skin. The man grinned, his muscles bulging. "Arrow!" He left Hazel there and ran off down the bridge, barreling through the soldiers that came to help Hazel.
Hazel got to her feet, her pride wounded but still resolute in her mission. She pushed on, injured but still able to take care of the normal soldiers. Eventually she made it to the end of the bridge seeing two figures talking joyfully. "Today the battle will end, they've lost their guards and some newbies can't change that."
"You!" Hazel yelled, addressing the woman.
"Funnel, it seems you have a fan." King Rock laughed. "Take care of her."
Funnel nodded. "My spiders were itching for a bite."
"I'll kill you." Hazel promised.
Rock turned away from her, walking across the bridge in preparation for his own battle, a flash of blue flames appearing in front of him.
On the other side of the bridge, Lani was met with a battle of her own. "Come on little Arrow, surely you can do more than the old man I beat yesterday!" Titan roared. Lani remained quiet, an arrow appearing on her bow as she drew the string. The arrow shifted, its appearance changed, the arrowhead turning red as she fired. "Arrows don't work on me!" Titan laughed as he took the shot just to be blasted away as he exploded
"The only limit to a fruit is your imagination and whether it's in the realm of possibility." Lani told him. "My fruit allows me to create and control arrows, it doesn't limit us to only normal arrows. My master never realized that." She drew her bow again, the arrowhead turning orange.
The man roared in pain, his muscles bulging and covering his body. His body grew, doubling in size, eventually reaching 7 meters in height. The muscle-like armor appeared as red tendrils, breaking and reforming multiple times over. A dark voice spoke. "I haven't had to go this far in a while."
"Feel free to go a little further." Lani told him, she always opened up a bit with a bow on her hand.
Titan blitzed forward, a giant fist appeared in front of Lani's face in an instant. Lani ducked the force of the punch kicking up wind that blew her hair back, she drew her arrow firing it watching the man catch on fire. Titan screamed in pain as his muscles repeatedly burned away and regrew, "you bitch!" The tendril-like muscles shot out wrapping around Lani as he pulled her towards him. The punch that rocked her chest breaking ribs on impact made her feel like she was hit by a ten ton cannonball.
She coughed up blood but didn't back down. She jumped off the platform, drawing a white arrow and firing it. Mid air the arrow split, cloning itself multiple times over as they collapsed in on him. Titan was able to dodge a few but the ones that touched his skin froze in an instant, she drew a blue arrow, the shots actually piercing through the muscle and causing the man to fall to the ground. Her feet finally touched down, her body giving out slightly as she fell to her knees, holding her chest. The tendril-like muscles retreated leaving the giant man to shrink back to his normal size of a little over 3 meters. The arrows that penetrated his body left him weakened but not dead.
"Seastone Arrows." She told him. "You won't be moving anytime soon, you must've gotten some in your blood. Your devil fruit will be gone until it passes through your system."
"Lani." A voice called out as they ran up to check on her. "You alright?"
Lani looked up. "Penguin right? I'll be fine but it'd be great if you could fix me up."
Penguin saluted. "Of course."
Back across the bridge, Funnel's appearance had changed, spider legs had sprouted from her back serving as blades. Hazel jumped back from another clash with women. "It's no use, you can't beat me, not without a devil fruit."
"I don't need one." Hazel growled. "I'll beat you with my blades, the blades of the first shade, my great grandfather."
"Oh, such wonderful weaponry. Once used to protect both our islands, but now…" The woman left the rest unsaid as she dashed in, the legs on her back flashing out with a black liquid adorning the tips.
Shade threw her blades up, blocking two as she dodged the others and slipped past slashing Funnel across her cheek. "I swear I'll kill you with these blades." Hazel promised.
The cut was filled with spiders before reforming back into normal skin. "It's useless, you can't cut me. I may not be a logia but my fruit works like one. My body is made up entirely of spiders, I recover from any injuries without problem."
"Then I'll keep cutting until every spider in that body of yours is dead."
Funnel smirked, putting her hand up in Hazel's direction, webs shot from her fingertips creating a white net. Hazel jumped to the side, slashing successive waves of webs as she pressed forward. "You're pretty good, really fast, it'd be hard to keep up if I didn't have something to slow you down." Funnel lifted her foot webs building up on the bottom as she slammed it down. "Spider's lair!" Webs shot out from her foot covering the surrounding area in the substance.
Hazel jumped to avoid the attack but the moment she landed she realized it was much harder to move. "The hell?"
"My webs trap all weaklings in place, you should be proud that you're able to move in this environment." Funnel laughed as she ran at Hazel, her speed not hindered by her attack.
Hazel was still able to keep up but now she had nothing to bridge the gap in strength, not only that, Funnel had a few more "blades" than she did.
Hazel realized she wouldn't win this playing by the rules, she decided she'd play a little dirty. She let the legs slide off her blade and ducked, grabbing a handful of dirt and throwing it into her opponent's eye. "The honor of some people is something I'd never understand, all that matters is whether I win or not. Only the victor can decide what's right and wrong."
"You brat!" Funnel yelled as her hands instinctively began rubbing her eyes. Hazel tried taking that chance to attack but eyes sprouted from the back of Funnel's hands as well as the side of her head, six of them appearing to glare at Hazel. "You can take out two of my eyes, I still have six left!"
Hazel jumped back as Funnel took a stab at her. She looked around frantically for something that could help her in this battle, behind one of the many houses was a campfire burning eternally with a blue flame. Now she may have never played Pokémon but she assumed that fire was probably effective against a giant bug. She ran towards the fire, Funnel chasing her. "Oil? Perfect." Hazel said as she slashed through a bottle with her blades.
The moment Funnel's body was exposed to the intense heat her entire being seemed to scream as spiders began crawling all around attempting to escape, her eyes being cut off from the swarm. "Calm down!" Funnel yelled. "Protect your queen!" She commanded as the spiders retreated back into her body. Hazel wrapped cloth around her hands as she thrust her blades into the fire seeing them burn up.
"This ends now!" Hazel slashed the webs beneath her watching the fire spread out and dissipate.
Funnel growled leaking poison from her arachnid limbs. Hazel rushed at her slashing through the legs but Funnel just kept making more and more, clash after clash continued to speed up until it was a blur of motion, the flames spread out along Funnel's extra legs eventually reaching her skin as she began to burn. Her spiders scattered trying to escape but every last one shared the same fate. Her body reformed as she screamed in agony falling against a fruit basket before drawing her last breath.
"Bitch." Hazel smirked as she fell to her knees, her strength leaving her rapidly. On her neck a final small spider had taken a bite as she slapped it away. "Fuck." She attempted to stand up but only fell further, all she could do was crawl. 'Where's those pirate doctors when you need them.' In her mind she knew there were only two ways she would survive this. Option one, hope that someone rescues her or option two…
She began to crawl towards the remains of Funnel who was surrounded by fruits, one of which looked black and furry with eight red lines running through it. "Sorry Master, Sorry Grandfather, it seems I'm taking a different path from you two." She apologized as she bit into the fruit, the taste beyond revolting as she swallowed it and felt her strength return.
Blaze squared off against Rock, raging fury in his eyes. "This ends today Rock."
Rock stared back, amusement clear from the look on his face. "It's been years, you haven't won yet, what makes today different?"
"I was holding back." Blaze told him simply, his flames roaring to life. "I thought there was still a way to save you, Shade and Arrow are dead, you're no longer worth saving."
"Is that so?" Rocks began forming from the king's hands. "Well let's see what you got?" The king taunted as a large boulder was sent flying at Blaze.
Blaze's fire consumed the rock in an instant, he pressed forward, the two elements clashing drawing everyone's attention to them. Rocks began building up, golems rising from the ground controlled by the will of their ruler. Blaze jumped away from the group breathing in as much air as he could. "Blue Cannonball!" He yelled as a small ball of fire scorched through the golems dissipating as it hit a wall of rock.
"Your flames will never reach me." Rock laughed. From behind Blaze the warrior from the coliseum rushed out clashing with the man and holding him down with all his strength. "So strong, you would've been a great candidate for Titan, too bad you were born on the wrong island." Earth exploded from Rock's arm overwhelming his enemy as he was showered by rocks.
"Damn it, this fight is mine!" Blaze yelled as he grabbed hold of his subordinate, throwing him back as he touched his hand to Rock's face. The flames that erupted seemed to incinerate everything in its path but Rock emerged barely singed.
"Keep your warriors out of this. We don't want them to get hurt." Rock said menacingly.
"I could say the same to you." Blaze growled as he blasted warriors off the bridge, yelling in agony from the blue flames.
Rock smirked. "Very well." He placed his hand on the bridge, the straight path shifting as it changed to a circular platform cut off from the mainland. "Now it's just the two of us."
For hours on end the two fought the sun rising and falling again, hours turned to days neither one seemingly growing tired, a week later the clashing seemed to quiet down and the roaring flames were no more. "You're looking tired Rock."
"Says you. You don't even have enough energy to use your fruit anymore." Rock retorted.
"You're one to talk!" Blaze roared, summoning his flames as he ran at Rock and tackled him, the two reaching the end of the platform.
Rock tried to fight back but he began to fall. "I won't be going alone!" Rock promised. The two islands of people watched on as Rock's hand touched the platform before he fell in. The ground beneath Blaze's feet disappeared as the bridge returned, the giant jaws of the ocean swallowed them both as they sank beneath the waves.
Citizens on each side cried out, Titan jumped in after Rock choosing to die with his leader than live imprisoned. Law watched on, wondering whether or not he should have them saved but eventually decided against it. He beckoned his crew as they walked back towards the shore. Chris whispered about how he still wasn't fully trusted and hadn't gotten any new skills or something along those lines.
After crossing the bridge Hazel stopped in front of the commander. "Don't cry, soldier." She soothed him. "I can't stay here, the island needs a new leader."
"What?" The commander yelped in surprise.
"The fruit of our leader is gone, I must go find it. It's the only way I'll be able to say goodbye." Hazel told him.
Lani who was crying her eyes out went quiet as she heard this. "If you're leaving I'm going with you, my Master and my King are dead, you're all I have left." She sniffled.
"How can I possibly lead the two islands?" The commander asked.
Hazel smiled. "You can decide that for yourself, Shade."
The man was confused for a moment before promptly rejecting. "That fruit is meant for you, take it with you. I can figure something out on my own."
Hazel shook her head. "I'm no longer eligible as a user." Two white spider legs sprouted from her back. "I have a new path, though I have no idea why my spider features are white. They've never looked like this for the other users."
Shade laughed halfheartedly. "I'll see you girls later, be safe out there."
With that the girls ran after the pirates.

Final thoughts
This chapter took so long, I had a slight case of writers block halfway through but the ideas came in the end. For a moment I almost changed the entire course of the story but decided against it.
