Chapter 3 : Four Children
Thank you for the positive response!
Marco ran joyfully through the house.
"Daddy!"
He was scooped up and swung around.
"Hello, son. How was your day?"
"My parrot said something for the first time!"
"That is exciting. Have you named him yet?"
"No." Marco was abashed. "Nothing seems to suit him."
"That's alright. I am sure you will discover the right name in time."
"I hope so."
"Is that enchiladas I smell?"
"Yes, yes!" Marco was his joyful self once again. "Let's go eat ladas!"
As they sat at the dinner table, conversation flowed freely between Marco and his parents. His was a happy life.
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
"I'm going somewhere else? Why? I like it here!"
"Samantha," said the worker, "Mrs. Eldredge is getting old. She is not able to take care of you and properly foster your talent."
"I don't care about talent! I want Mrs. Eldredge!" Each word was emphasized with a stomp of Samantha's little foot.
"There will be lots of new books for you to read," the worker said temptingly.
"I don't... Oh, fine! I will have to go whether I want to or not."
"Yes, you will. You're a very smart little girl to understand that. Now come along."
Samantha walked out to the car.
When she climbed out, she was at the house where she would be staying for an indefinite amount of time.
"Hello."
A somewhat dour woman greeted her and her worker at the door.
"Please come in. My husband is in the living room."
A flurry of introductions ensured, and soon Samantha was left with the dour woman and her slightly less dour husband.
"You shall call me Doreen." The woman (Doreen) bid her.
"Yes, Doreen."
"And that is my husband, Paul."
Paul gave her a somewhat cheerful wave but he didn't say anything.
And with that, she was ensconced in her new home.
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
"Oh Harry! I have a present!"
"What is it, Daddy?"
"Open it up and see."
Harry tore into the wrapping paper.
"A book? Why? I don't like books." Harry pouted.
"You need to learn things for school. It will help you become a big badass like your Daddy."
"Really?" Harry looked up in excitement.
"Yes, really."
"Will I be able to beat you, Daddy?" Harry wanted to know. There was a gleam in his eye.
"One day, Harry, you will absolutely beat me. You will even be able to defeat Dumbledore. No dark wizard will be able to stand before you."
"Then let's get started, Daddy!"
James chuckled as his son rushed off. The right choice had been made.
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Lily cowered in the corner.
"And I better not hear anything else from you, young lady!" Miss Bumbleridge's voice echoed around the small room. "What do you say?"
"Yes ma'am," Lily mumbled.
"Speak up, girl!"
"Yes ma'am."
The door closed. The sound of a key turning in a lock came to her ears before all was silent except for the rats. Lily breathed a sigh of relief. She had only been struck twice! That was progress.
She laid herself down on the cold floor. She might as well get some rest while she could.
When she woke up, the same view greeted her.
A high, barred window. Cold stone walls. Spiderwebs with their occupants active. And rats.
The door opened, startling her. She had not heard anyone approach.
When she saw who it was, her heart dropped like a stone.
The cold voice sent chills down her spine.
"Hello, Lily."
