Chapter 5 : The First Awakening

Samantha woke up, excited. Mrs. Eldredge had important news for her! She couldn't wait to find out what it was.

She was all ready at 9:00, when the car arrived for her. Her foster parents didn't care about her going out.

A young man sat in the car. He extended his hand to her.

"Hello, I am Arnold."

"Hello Arnold. I think you know that my name is Samantha?"

"I do."

She hopped in, very excited.

"Can you do magic?"

"No I cannot. I am a Squib."

"That is sad. How do you know Mrs. Eldredge?"

"She is my adopted aunt."

In time, they arrived at a building.

"Here we are!" Arnold announced.

"Awesome!"

An old, ivy covered brick building stood in front of her.

"This is our headquarters."

Samantha was taken inside. It was a beautiful building, but it had fallen into disrepair.

She met Mrs. Eldredge in her study.

"Hello, dear. Hush;" She held up a cautioning hand as Samantha was about to speak. "Our time is short. I only hope I can say what I need to before it is too late."

Samantha had a shocked expression.

"I know this is all very sudden, but you must trust me. There are some things you must know. Most importantly, what you are. You are a witch. However, you are not just any witch. You have a special power..."

She was interrupted by the door being broken down.

A cloaked man burst through.

A bolt of light shot out of the end of the stick he was carrying...

And hit Mrs. Eldredge.

She slumped over, dead.

A rage, unlike anything she had ever known before swept through Samantha.

"How dare you!" She cried.

She did not notice that she had risen off the floor.

"How dare you kill Mrs. Eldredge! She had done nothing to you. I will make you pay!"

The last words were screamed out. Samantha had loved Mrs. Eldredge like a mother.

The cloaked man raised an eyebrow at her. "Really."

This drove her over the edge. He doubted her power!

The roof was sucked off the house.

By a tornado.

The man - he must be a wizard! - shot a bolt of light at her in fear.

It was intercepted by a bolt of lightning.

An enormous storm appeared over the area.

The wizard was thrice incinerated as the house was torn apart.

She rose into the air.

A mile away, a cloaked watcher shook his head.

"So it begins. The first has awakened."

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Hours later, Samantha sat comfortably on a chair, sipping a cup of tea. She was watching the television.

The reporter was saying,

"And in other news, a freak storm occurred today in Cornwall. A tornado, along with massive bolts of lightning, wrecked the area for miles around. The storm appeared out of nowhere, the tornado shortly before the lightning. There is a known casualty count of six."

She turned it off.

"And so you say that Mrs. Eldredge knew something about what happened today, Arnold?"

Arnold, who was currently in the kitchen making dinner, replied.

"Yes, I believe that she knew why you have such crazy power."

"Well, What are you going to do with me now?"

"I do not believe it is safe for you to return to your foster parents. You are undoubtedly in danger after your little display today."

"But he didn't target me, he targeted Mrs. Eldredge!"

Arnold came out of the kitchen and faced her.

"Samantha, you are extraordinarily powerful. You are also not in control of your powers. I believe that you must be educated in magic. I, however, nor any others of the Society of Squibs, are capable of doing so."

Samantha got one main thing out of that.

"I get to learn magic? Does that involve books?"

"Oh yes. Little Ravenclaw, there are books and knowledge beyond your wildest dreams."

And with that, Samantha's journey into the magical world was begun. She was a sponge for magical knowledge, absorbing it like crazy. With her illicit wand from Knockturn Alley and her extremely unusual capabilities for wandless magic,, she began to master every magical discipline you could think of.

And she did not limit herself to magic, either. It was not long before she was simultaneously enrolled in martial arts, gymnastics, dance, and track and field classes.

And yet, they were unable to figure out the source of Samantha's power. To someone as research and knowledge minded as she was, that was its own torture. She, at eight years old, had more power than many adult wizards would ever have.

When she got to Hogwarts in three years, they would not know what hit them.
