Author's Note: Glad I can be back on this. It's been hard for me to adapt Black Panther elements in to the Amphibia show. And I've been waiting to continue until after the Amphibia show ended. I loved it. Of course, I'll have to skip the filler episodes.
Before we begin, I have an announcement to make. In my last chapter, I announced that I would be doing a rotation of updates with this and the other Marvel/Disney Show crossovers. However, it has been pointed out to me that it would take too long, and after going through it once, I agree. So I am revoking the rotation and decided to update these chapters whenever. After all, I don't want to wait another month to work on this.
Any and all comments are welcome.
"AAAAAHHHH!"
Anne's screaming made T'Challa jump out of his sleeping bag and into a pose that was ready to pounce. As soon as he realized that Anne was just waking up from a nightmare, he settled down. Though, that didn't ease the attention they were both getting from the Plantar family.
"Sorry to wake you like that, T'Challa." Anne said.
"It's quite all right." T'Challa said. "Did we disturb you frogs in any way?"
"Not really." Sprig said. "We were already down here anyway." He was going to take another step closer, but his grandfather pulled him away.
"Careful, boy!" Hop Pop said. "They could be hungry."
"For your guts!" Polly cried out as she jumped with her barrel. She held a rolling pin like a weapon.
"Dude, relax." Anne said. "I'm not going to eat something that clearly doesn't bathe."
"You don't have to worry about me either." T'Challa said.
"Told you they were harmless." Sprig said.
"For now." Hop Pop said.
"Just give me an excuse to use old Doris here." Polly said holding up her rolling pin. She hopped out of the basement with Hop Pop leaving the two humans alone with Sprig.
"I think the little one wants to kill us." Anne said.
"Yup." Sprig assured. "So you guys must be so excited to be trapped in another world. And T'Challa, you're actually royalty? So jealous."
T'Challa chuckled softly. "It's not that big of a deal."
"Dude, you're going to be king of a secret advanced kingdom." Anne said. "If anything, I'm jealous."
"You'd think," T'Challa said, "But it's not all good. But anyway, Anne, how are you feeling right now?"
"Pretty good, I guess. I miss my home, my stuff, and especially… my friends." Anne pulled out a photograph of herself, Sasha, and Marcy before lamenting over it. "Without them, I feel sorta lost, you know. If me and T'Challa are here, they must be too."
"And Shuri too. And Erik." T'Challa added.
"Oh, boy." Anne said. "It's bad enough we got our friends and family into this, but we barely just met Erik. He's basically a stranger."
"Hey, cheer up." Sprig said. "Tell you what. How about I be your friend?"
"I kinda thought that was already implied when we saved each other from monsters." T'Challa said.
"Hmm… Good point." Sprig said. "Anyway, what do you guys do for fun?"
"Everything." Anne said. "Me, Sasha, and Marcy, we would marathon dumb TV shows, drink boba till we vomited, hung out at the beach."
"Oh, we do have a lake." Sprig said. "Would going there make you feel less homesick?"
"That does sound relaxing." T'Challa commented. "What do you think, Anne?"
Anne took one last look at her photo before smiling. "All right. I'm in."
After a few minutes of preparation, everyone was ready for a swim. Anne had her swimming gear on the same as T'Challa's and Sprig's. They excitedly marched to the front door, but before they could make it, Hop Pop jumped right in front of them.
"And where do you three think you're going?"
"We're going to the lake." Sprig said.
"Do you want to come with, Hop Pop?" T'Challa asked.
"Absolutely not!" Hop Pop cried out. "No one's going anywhere!"
"What?" Anne asked. "Why?"
"Look, Anne, T'Challa, you're a couple of new, unsettling, strange, bizarre, gangly, HORRIFYING…"
"Is there a point?" T'Challa asked.
Hop Pop cleared his throat. "The point is, the frogs in this town can be pretty small-minded." He peeked out of the window. "And paranoid. We just need to give them time to get used to you. I think it's best if you stayed put."
"Well, I guess that makes sense." T'Challa said.
"What?" Anne asked. "You're taking his side?"
"Anne, we were almost chased out of town by an angry mob yesterday." T'Challa said. "Besides, this could be a chance for us to get some knowledge of this world before we set off to find our answers."
"Smart boy." Hop Pop said as he locked the front door and put the key in his pocket. "And to help…" He walked over to a nearby bookshelf and pulled out a large book labeled "The Encyclopedic History of Amphibia Volume 1".
"Thank you, Hop Pop."
"Now, I'll be in my study for my own reading." Hop Pop said. Don't do anything stupid." He headed into the adjacent room and closed the doors behind him.
Anne groaned. "Adults are all the same. Curfews. Rules. Old. I can't believe you didn't side with me, T'Challa."
"Anne, it's smart if we stay hidden." T'Challa said. "Besides, we'll want to be prepared for when we have to cross the mountains in a couple of months, so I want to learn as much as I can about this world. Wanna study with me?"
"Over a dumb book. No thanks." Anne answered.
"Suit yourself." T'Challa said. "I'll be down at the basement if you need me."
T'Challa had been cooped up in the basement for quite a few minutes. The Wakandan prince had been scrolling through the pages word by word until something caught his eye. He didn't understand the meaning of it, so he decided to head up to the study where Hop Pop said he would be.
T'Challa walked in with the open book in his hand. "Hey, Hop Pop, I've been reading this encyclopedia, and here's a term which is read 'vicious as a scorpoleo'. What exactly is a…"
He stopped when he noticed two things. Number one: Hop Pop was fast asleep with his eyes open. Number two: the front door key was missing from his pocket. T'Challa turned to the front door and saw that it was ajar.
"Oh, no. They didn't."
They did.
Anne and Sprig pickpocketed the key from Hop Pop's jacket pocket and left the house. They hiked through the forest until they found the lake. Despite finding a sign that forewarned danger, the two of them ultimately ended up swimming in the lake.
After a few minutes of fun, Anne decided to take a picture of Sprig with her phone. She took it, but gasped when she saw the picture.
"I was blinking, wasn't I?" Sprig asked.
"More like you weren't thinking."
Anne and Sprig looked in the same direction at T'Challa, who stood at the edge of the land. He crossed his arms and wore an upset look on his face.
"What do you two think you're doing?" he asked.
"Oh. Hey, T'Challa." Anne chuckled nervously. "I can explain."
"You stole the key from Hop Pop, snuck out of the house, and went to the lake even though you were explicitly told not to." T'Challa said.
"Yeah, that about covers it." Sprig said.
T'Challa sighed. "You're lucky I got to you before Hop Pop did. So just get out of the water and let's head back to the house."
"…No."
T'Challa widened his eyes and focused his attention to the defiant Anne. "Excuse me?"
"You heard me. I'd rather stay here for as long as I like."
"Anne, think about what you're doing." T'Challa said. "Hop Pop said it's too dangerous for us to be out here."
"HP's the paranoid one." Anne said. "There's nothing dangerous here."
T'Challa turned his head toward a wooden sign that had the words "Don't Swim" written on it in a hurry. "Yeah, because that isn't foreboding enough."
"Oh, come on. Obviously, someone put that there to keep this lake to themselves."
"That may be how things work in Los Angeles, but this is an entirely different world with giant, carnivorous bugs. How do you know there's not a monster in the lake right now?"
"Listen, your 'royal highness', you may be a prince of Wakanda, but you can't be a buzzkill about this."
"Uh, Anne." Sprig said with a nervous expression.
"Hold on, Sprig. We've been swimming for several minutes, and the most dangerous thing here is a rainbow."
"Anne…"
"Hold on, Sprig. You could try being a better friend instead of being a dictator. Look around. There's nothing dangerous here!"
"ANNE!"
"SPRIG, I…" Anne stopped when she heard a giant growl. "There's a monster behind me, isn't there?"
Both Sprig and T'Challa nodded. When Anne turned around, she yelled in fright seeing a giant snake monster towering over her. She tried to swim away, but the beast raised its tail to stop her. It then hissed and struck down to eat her. Thankfully, T'Challa stood in the way with his vibranium panther costume covering itself around his body. He gripped onto the snake's fangs and struggled to push it away. Both used their strength to stay in one place.
"T'CHALLA!" Anne gasped.
"I… I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH LONGER I CAN HOLD THIS THING!" T'Challa cried out.
"T'CHALLA, I'm SORRY!" Anne responded. "I DIDN'T MEAN TO…"
"ANNE, STOP FEELING SORRY FOR YOURSELF! I DON'T CARE ABOU THAT! ALL I CAN THINK ABOUT RIGHT NOW IS KEEPING YOU AND SPRIG SAFE!" T'Challa opened his eyes for a brief moment, and they both flashed a light of blue for a very brief second.
"Sprig, we gotta help him!" Anne shouted.
"Ooh! I got an idea!" Sprig said. He leaped over to where T'Challa was wrestling against the snake's teeth and pulled out a bunch of red peppers. He chucked them into the snake's open mouth and it stopped struggling.
The snake moved its head away from T'Challa before roaring a blow of fire into the sky. It slithered away into the lake with smoke fuming from its mouth leaving the trio at the edge of the lake.
"Sprig, that was amazing!" Anne cheered.
"Indeed." T'Challa said. "What did you throw in there?"
"Hop Pop's pain peppers. So hot, they'll make you wish you were dead." Sprig answered.
"Wow. That's very resourceful." T'Challa said.
"Thanks. Friend punch." Sprig said giving T'Challa a punch to his shoulder. The three of them shared a laugh until they heard the monster roar again. They ran immediately back home.
After waking up and discovering the key missing, Hop Pop feared the worst. But when he saw the door was still locked and the kids were playing a board game in the basement, his worries simmered down.
Anne picked up a pair of dice and rolled them in her hand. "Come on. Mama needs a new pair of shoes. Seriously though, I do need new shoes."
Hop Pop approached the three. "You guys been here all day?"
"Yeah, dude." Anne said. "I'm on a winning streak."
"It is embarrassing to see a prince keep losing like this." T'Challa admitted.
"I owe her my firstborn child." Sprig said.
"One more thing, Hop Pop." T'Challa said pulling out the missing key. "We found this on the floor. You must have dropped it."
Hop Pop paused for a moment before taking the key back. "Dang shallow pockets. Well, you get what you pay for." He headed back up the stairs, and in his place, Polly leaped in ready to fight with her rolling pin.
"AHA!"
"Sup, Polly." Anne said.
"…You're not gonna eat us, are you?" Polly asked losing her excitement. "You're not even gonna try. Disappointing." She left the basement again giving everyone else a chance to sigh heavily.
"Hey, Sprig, sorry I almost got you killed." Anne said.
"Are you kidding? That was the most exciting thing that's ever happened to me! My heart was beating faster than a dragonfly on a sugar rush! In fact, I'm feeling a little… sleepy." He laid down on the ground and started snoring and croaking.
After Sprig fell asleep, Anne turned to her fellow human. "T'Challa, I guess I owe you an apology too. I shouldn't have called you a dictator."
"I'm sorry I was a bit demanding myself." T'Challa said. "I was just wanting to get back home in one piece. The best way I knew how. And I guess I let the pressure get to me."
"What pressure?" Anne asked. "Sure, our current lifestyle's not ideal, but you're still a prince. You're an heir to a throne. Soon, you'll get to do whatever you want."
T'Challa chuckled. "A common misconception. Sure, as king, I'll be the most powerful man in Wakanda, but that just puts a lot of responsibility on my shoulders. All the millions of people I have to look over. All the sacred traditions I have to uphold. Not to mention, I started strict education when I was very young. Honestly, Anne, I envy you. You don't have any worries on you. Remember when you, Sasha, and Marcy let all those dogs loose in the school hallways while playing K-pop music through the intercom? I actually respected that."
Anne chuckled. "Yeah. That was pretty fun." She frowned. "But maybe if I had been a bit more responsible, we wouldn't be here in the first place."
"What do you mean? It was that strange music box that brought us here. Just because you opened it, it doesn't mean you had any control over it."
Anne flashed back to the thrift store where she found the music box in the first place. She recalled how Sasha and Marcy urged Anne to steal the box and Anne complied reluctantly. That's how she got the box in the first place.
After her flashback, Anne turned to T'Challa. She was about to tell him, but she stopped herself. "Yeah. You're probably right. It wasn't my fault at all."
"Sure. Well, we better rest up. Who knows what might happen to us tomorrow." T'Challa rested up in his sleeping bag and fell asleep.
Anne was the only one left awake. She held up her photo of her girl friends and sighed. "Sasha, Marcy, I hope you guys are okay."
Deep in a dark dungeon of a vile tower, a vicious-looking toad approached a prison cell where two people were held. The toad held up a yellow shoe that Anne was missing.
"Take a look at this please, Sasha and Erik. It was found far from here, in the South Forest. Now, we know that you've been lying to us. Now, we know that there are more of you. If you continue to keep things from me, then I'll have to introduce you to my most vicious associate… Klaw." The thunder rattled loudly at the sound of that name.
