Chapter 15 X-Men Report In

A steady knocking drew Jean's attention away from her homework. Getting up, she made her way over to the door. "H-Hawks?" she blinked and rubbed her eyes as she opens the door.

"Yeah it's me, why is everyone so shocked?" he asked rubbing back of his neck.

She reached out and pulled him into gentle hug, "because it's so good to see you back to normal." Hawks quickly returned the hug hoping to hide the tears in his eyes and smile on his face.

"Wait, you're hurt," she said breaking the embrace and stepping back. Her eyes glanced over to the sling he wore, then briefly up at him. "I'm sorry, I didn't hurt just now?"

"Huh, what no, no, you didn't I'm alright-" He tried to waved it off but stopped as placed his hand on his neck, "-though could you explain what happened?"

Hawks was leaning forwards into his free hand as he listened to Jean recounting the events that lead up to what happened. His eyebrows raised as he sheepishly smiled back.

"I guess I should have thought things though more," he chuckled with sly smile.

"I'll say, you are lucky you only dislocated and sprained your shoulder and arm, not have broken either of them."

Hawks tried to nod his head in agreement with her but ended up wincing in pain.

"You okay?" Jean asked in concern seeing the pained expression crossing Hawks' face.

"My head-" he groaned as he gripped it, "-it hurts."

Jean carefully leaned forward, touching her hand to his temple to help him message them. "How long has your head been bothering you?" she asked, keeping a calm and gentle tone as she tried to get him to look up at her.

"All night, ever since I woke up," he glanced up at her, "it feels like it's getting worst." His eyes were glazed with pain and brows knitted together.

"We should go see your father to ask him for help."

Hawks managed to relax just seconds ago from the soothing message to his temples. He was jerked out of the trance he was under and stared in shock looking over at Jean.

"I'm fine, we don't have to go to my dad. It surely will pass on its own. It's late, we shouldn't disturb him over something like this." He said trying to minimize the throbbing pain building back up in his head like a heavy blanket of fog.

'That's not an issue, Jean, Hawks come to study please.' Professor said as he interprets them with telepathy.

. ***** **** ***.

"Jean, Hawks, come in and take a seat." Professor X said as the two walked into the study. Hawks walked over to where he sat last time. "Good to see you're back to normal, son." Professor said as he approached them.

"It's good to be back. Could someone please explain what the hell is going on with me?" he asked as he scratched the side of his face. "Since I woke up my head has being aching and talking with Logan and Jean hasn't help lot," he looked down. "Sorry, I know you tried to help Jean."

Jean rested her hand on his shoulder, causing him to look up at her.

"Are you sure you want to know? Sometimes knowledge can become more of a burden than we first realize." Professor said as Hawks looked back with a confident smirk.

"You're talking to the number 2 hero in Japan, I think I know what I'm doing." He said grinning back.

"Keigo, what we think and what we know are two different things."

"I've made it this far on my own, I don't need a father stepping in, you think you know me? Well you don-"

"-Keigo that's enough!" Jean cut in, meeting Hawks' gaze with an icy green stare.

Hawks' eyes swiftly darted away from her as realization what nearly transpired sank in.

"Can we please get back to why we are here," Jean asked, "before someone says something they don't mean?"

Hawks coughed into his hand, nervously trying to compose himself as he faced his father once more. Maybe it's good she's here. "Right, back on track," he said, meeting his father's gaze. Although he wasn't keen on the idea of asking for his help, the thundering pain was becoming harder to bare.

"Look, I might have over stepped back there and said things on my mind, which I do a lot by the way, but still I'm sorry, my whole night's been nothing but a stressful headache, not sure if that pun was intended but I'll roll with it," he chuckled lightly then let's out a sigh, "I just want to know what's going and get on with my night."

Professor had remained calm throughout his son's outburst, his hands folded in front of him as he meets Hawks' gaze once more.

"We all get stressed, overwhelmed and irritable when we aren't doing well. I accept your apology, son. I just want to help you." Professor replied.

"I kinda don't have choice here, do I?" Hawks asked as he leaned his back against the chair.

"Everyone has a choice, even you."

Hawks sighed and leaned into his free hand. "Anyways, first Jean said you can help me and then you offered the same thing. If you don't mind me asking, what is it you can do to help me?" he asked as his eyes darted from Jean to his father. His curiosity was sparked, wondering what both of them were thinking.

Professor smiled as he moved his wheelchair closer to Hawks. "I can use my telepathy to enter and manipulate your mind. I can ease away your headache and help you organize scattered thoughts."

Hawks' eyes widen as he whistled. "That's impressive! How do you telepaths do it?!"

"It's through physical contact. You may not remember, but I have done this for you before. If you'll allow me, I can do it again."

Hawks hummed as glanced from his dad to Jean and back to Professor, grinning. "Not many people can say they can get into my head. After all, they say the physical me is enough for them."

Hawks grinned as Jean and Professor laugh. Still got it. "Alright now, so what do I have to do so you can brave this awesome mind of mine?"

"All you need to do is relax, it'll make maneuvering you mind easier because it will take down your stress."

Hawks grinned and let out a long sigh. "Relax? Well that I am good at." he brags as Professor reaches out to touch Hawks' temples. The pro closed his eyes as a buzz ran through his head, making him wince.

As the last minutes ticked by, the pain-filled expression on Hawks' face dwindled away. Hawks let out a content sigh as the pounding eased.

Hawks blinks open his eyes as his dad pulled his hands away from his temples. "Man, thanks dad, the pain is practically gone."

"You're quite welcome, son. I must say, your mind is very interesting."

Hawks chuckled. "Well, it is my head after all! You're bound to find something pretty cool up here."

Professor X chuckled as the tension from before vanished leaving all three occupants in a lighter mood.

"I'm sure we could stay here and talk all night, but it's very late and, Jean, you have school tomorrow. I'm sure you have plans as well son." Professor said looking at his son and student.

Hawks smiled and stood up, stretching his arm over his head as his wings flared. His eyes widened, "oops, sorry, my wings didn't hit you, did they?" He asked folding them back and looking over to Jean. His wings were huge and he forgot she was right next to him.

"Hawks, don't worry about it. Your wings didn't hit me," Jean said. "Oh well that's a shame, many would kill to be able to touch these magnificent wings." he teased.

Jean and Hawks then bid Professor goodnight as they left his study. "Jean, thanks for everything," Hawks said. "What you did to help me."

"You're welcome, I am glad I was able to help Hawks. Both versions of you." she said.

Hawks smiled and yawned, earning a laugh from Jean. Giving a cheeky smile he adds, "well, it's best we both get back to bed. 'Night, Jean." He said.

"'Night, Hawks, she said as he waved to her while entered his room.

. **** ***** ****.

"Logan, looks like you have a rival for early morning training," Kurt yawns as he looks down from the overhang into the room below. Hawks stood in the center of the room. His dominant arm still in a sling while he held a red feather shaped sword in his other hand.

The X-Men watched as the young man as flew about, slashing the sword here and there through midair. The wing hero moved fast, zipping around the room. "So, does this mean we get out training?" Evan asked, looking up at Logan hopefully.

Logan huffed. "Nice try, Porcupine. You all of you get suited and meet back here in five." Evan, Kitty and Kut groaned as Rouge, Scott and Jean escorted them out of the room. Logan watched until the door closed before he pressed a button on the panel.

Hawks, can you hear me?*

The winged hero stopped moving and looks over his shoulder. "Yeah, I hear you, what's up?" he asked.

*If you wanting to train, the others will be here in five minutes. We will be running a few training drills if you want to take part.*

"I'm the fastest hero around, well that's what they say.. think they keep up with my speed?" he asked grinning. "Not trying to brag here, but not many can keep pace with me."

*Well then, you might be surprised by us X-Men we aren't that different from you and your heroes.*

"If that's the case, then I'm looking forward to seeing what they got."

*How about you come up here while we wait I'll show how this training program really works.*

Hawks swiftly puts his feather back into his wing as he grins up at Logan. "You got Silver Claws, I'll be right there," he said.

. **** ***** ****.

"Not, half bad training rooms you guys have here, now what is this you wanted to show me again, Goofball?" Hawks asked as he walked into the control room grinning at Logan.

Logan looked up at him, as he raised an questioning eyebrow at the comment. "Goofball? Now listen here bub, why in all thing senses able would you want tot call me that?" he asked.

"Hmm, I don't know, maybe because you have put up with a pain in ass kid, which happened to be me." Hawks smirked as he pointed to himself. "I must say, from what I heard about you and your personality. I am surprised how calm you were about it it. I mean, from what I can recall, you put up with a lot of my antics."

Logan grunted as he crossed his arms at Hawks. "Hmph.. I still don't do babysitting Feathers, it was a favor," he said.

"Really, the way I saw it you enjoyed it, I mean of course who won't I was a adorable kid after all, you know maybe you should try being a nann-"

"—Hawks."

"Alright, Alright don't claw my head off Silver Claws." Hawks chuckles as he grins. "You did call me up here to show me how this baby works right?"

Logan sighs and motions Hawks over. With a grin, he walks over to control panel. Humming Hawks rubs his chin as he listens as Logan went over how the simulator worked and the types of things programmed into it.

"So, this how you all train? By using machines, and programs?" Hawks asked, looking from the control panel to the room below. Interesting.

"Well Feathers, we have different types of training we do here. It's not just training for our powers, we also do hand to hand combat train as well, along with rescue training near the cliff side and many other types." Logan said.

Hawks continued to rub his chin. What Logan said made sense. The atmosphere here was already different from what he was use to Sorta refreshing and the way they acted they weren't being trained as pros like he was.

The sound of doors opening below made Hawks look down to see the X-Men walking into the room in different attire than from what he seen, they in. They actually look like heroes.

.**** ***** *****.

"Heyo, mind if join you all for training?" Hawks asked, giving a wave with his free hand as he entered the room. The X-Men turned to face the pro hero as the door swooshed open for him.

"Uh, are sure about that," Scott asked him. "I mean training on own with sling is one thing. But-"

-"Come on, let him join in," Evan said.

"Yeah, like what harm could it do?" Kitty added.

Hawks stood there frozen in shock as he watched the teens before him as they came to bat for him. They barely know me yet they're willing to stand up for me.

"I'm with Scott, he could hurt himself," Rouge said, crossing her arms. "I think we can do this without him helping."

"Alright, alright enough of this already, you are talking about the 2ndranked and 2ndmostpopular hero here." Hawks grins as he gestures to himself as he walks over to break up the bickering. "Not to brag, but I'm a professional hero after all. I can handle a simulator training drill, heck if I want I can do it with both wings tied behind my back."

Scott walks over and crosses his arms over his chest. "If that's the case, Jean go grab me some rope and let's see you do just that, after all it should be a walk in the park for you." he said with a slight challenge in tone.

Jean scrawled, "are you guys crazy? No. What if he gets hurt more because of your guys' childish idea to prove who's better." she said, walking up and standing between the two of them.

"Come on Jean, he said he can do it," Scott pointed out.

"And what do you think I'm just going to help you do it?" She asked, crossing her arms and giving a pointed look at Scott.

*Are you all you finished because we have drills to run.*

Logan's voice cut in as all eyes went to the overhang where Logan stood looking down at them. "All good down here, Silver Claws," Hawks called up to him with a wide smile plastered on his face.

*Right, let's get started.*

.****** **** *****.

"Hawks, pay attention where you are flying." Jean said as the winged hero flew upside down on his back, arms behind his head.

"I am paying attention, may not look but, I'm always on alert nothing can ever startled me." he smirks seeing her doubt and confusion.

"You don't believe me? Well I'll have you know my feathers are awesome, why because every individual feather acts like a sensor that allows me to feel people and objects all around me through the vibrations they produce, like a human's heart beat to small movement of tipping cup. My own sweet version of echolocation. Just try to catch off my game, you can't!" he grinned back at her.

"Alright then, show me," Jean said, coming to a stop and hovering in place, her arms crossed. "Show me how good you really are."

Hawks' smile widened as he flew in font of her his wings flapped while he hovered.

"Well, Scott and Evan are to our left." A red beam of light was fired, creating a loud explanation. Hawks smiles, seeing the impressed look in Jean's green eyes. "Kitty Kurt and Rouge are-" he stopped as his eyes narrowed.

"Something not right," he said just as red flashing lights flashed to life and loud ring rang out. Followed by a telepathic voice cutting in through everyone's minds.

'X-Men, report in!'
