Melissa was the first to speak up after the revelation. "Okay, let me get this straight. In your universe, men can get pregnant and carry a child?"
Sergeant Braeden interrupted. "Not all men. There is still a hierarchy involved."
Chris scratched his head. "How is that possible?"
Even Stiles looked at Derek then to Eli Junior who babbled in his arms. "Yeah, how is that possible?"
Derek became the one to educate. "It goes back to this world's history. For a time after the RC period, the resurrection of Jesus, and the reveal of the supernatural community where a few served as his Apostles, both the humans and people like me coexisted but not without conflict from the many wars and colonization. Allegiances were formed, new tribes, and new governments were established on various continents. As the population stabilized and new supernatural creatures were born, we were met with a different crisis."
"What about the ones that were turned?" Chris asked the Alpha.
"Unlike other universes," Derek corrected the hunter. "All manner of creatures and species are born in our world and those myths of the werewolf or a vampire bite turning a human into one of us is a misnomer. All they're really going to get is a bad hickey."
"Damn," noted Scott. "If I knew that, I would have jumped over sooner to your universe so your Uncle Peter wouldn't have turned me."
"Wait!" Derek raised his finger. "My Uncle Peter in your world turned you into a werewolf? He's a pussycat and wouldn't hurt a fly."
"Well," Stiles interrupted. "The Peter we know in our universe is a dick!"
Derek cocked his head. "Point taken." He returned to his point. "At that time, humans and the supernatural couldn't procreate so if any got into a relationship, no child could be conceived in the union due to the physiological gifts supernatural creatures like myself inherited."
Allison spoke up. "But that changed and humans could breed with the supernaturals, right?" She slowly looked at Scott who grinned, but then realized her father, Chris, was glaring at her angrily and looked away.
Derek ignored the weird exchange and continued. "Yes, until the 14th century and the notorious Black Plague."
"The Black Plague?" The sheriff asked. "We had the same thing happen in our world's history. Millions of people died."
"As they did in ours," Director Claudia interrupted. "The Black Plague in our world changed everything for us. However it originated, it decimated almost our Earth's entire population. Those that survived it found themselves barren, whether they were human or not. Medieval scientists calling themselves Dread Doctors were trying to find a cure not only for this deadly illness but to stop everyone's infertility."
"They failed on all accounts," added Sargeant Braeden. "According to our history, their arrogance instead produced grotesque monsters who we dubbed as Abominations, unstoppable things that are difficult to kill. Once again, these new monstrosities terrorized the countryside and local villages before they were driven to the deepest recesses of the underground caverns of the planet. It is alleged they went extinct but supposedly one has been seen here and there as a cryptid."
"Like Bigfoot or Sasquatch?" Stiles asked as Eli Junior continued to babble in his arms.
Tierney rolled her eyes. "I told you, Bigfoot are real people! I dated one, remember!"
Claudia jumped in and continued. "Disgraced, the Dread Doctors disappeared, leaving everyone to turn to the most powerful druids, sorcerers, enchanters, witches, and wizards! Together, these powerful mages created spells that released a cure to the plague and to help stop the world's sterility but with a price."
"That price was allowing the males of every species to carry children,," Derek informed them. "However, not just men but two women in a partnership as well."
Stiles was curious and hesitated. "How does that work?"
The Alpha tried to be polite with his words. "Sex happens like normal but certain individuals have been blessed at birth with a symbol that only their partners can see, which is rare. We refer to these rare individuals as Omegas. In the social hierarchy of the supernatural community, Omegas are able to carry a child as long as their partner is an Alpha, like myself. Hence, they are compatible and can conceive."
"How do Betas like me fit in?" Scott wondered. "I mean in the construct of lycanthropy, Betas come in second to Alphas! Would I get pregnant?"
Allison smirked. Do you want to get pregnant, Scott? You can be my little bitch!"
Chris frowned. "Allison! Stop being disgusting!"
The Argent's daughter shrugged. "What? I mean this is really weirdly fascinating! Women wouldn't have to go through morning sickness, carry a bowling ball for nine months, and have to tear their bodies apart in pain to bring a child into the world! Why can't men do it?"
"Amen, sister!" Tierney waved her hands. "I'm all for Omega equality! Women's Lib and Rights and stuff! Woohoo!"
"It's a little more complicated than that," Derek corrected them. "Men and women, regardless of their species, can have children the normal way but Alphas and Omegas are predestined like a puzzle piece that fits together. Betas fall in the middle and can't conceive with either or but can possibly with a human or a supernatural the old fashion way. It's all complicated magic."
Sergeant Braeden added to the conversation. "With this new hierarchical construct created by magic, we were able to repopulate the Earth, both human and supernatural, and put an end to the Black Plague. It became the new norm for same sex couples to have children and carry on their bloodline throughout the centuries. It may seem bizarre or surreal in your world but in our reality, this is normal and we've protected this standard of our existence ever since."
Director Claudia folded her arms. "But it doesn't mean we agree with ourchildren's life partners." She stared daggers into Derek. "My Stiles wouldn't have fallen for some spoiled rich boy and could've been an accomplished Omega with a better Alpha partner!"
The Alpha sneered. "Fuck you, Claudia! Stiles went no contact after you threatened to disown him. You couldn't get over the fact that he chose me over you and we built a life together and had a son! You're jealous that the only family you have left is yourself and it kills you!"
"Go to hell, Derek!" Claudia shouted at him. "I came here to reason with you over something more important but, obviously, you won't listen to anyone with enough sense! My son deserved better!"
Eli turned to Stiles for help. "Do something! This family drama is getting out of hand!"
The FBI agent handed Eli Junior to teenage Eli and then went down the porch. "Okay, everyone! Calm the fuck down! This is getting us nowhere!"
Sheriff Noah tried to intervene. "Son, I think we have more pressing matters!" He referred to a missing Kuza.
"I know, Dad," Stiles told him. "But let me handle this."
The sheriff allowed him to do his thing. Stiles slowly approached the sergeant and met her eye to eye.
"Claudia, is it?" Stiles said calmly. "I know I'm not your son and I barely know you from my universe but whatever beef you and Derek have needs to stop right now. We have a dangerous being that invaded your world and we need everyone united to stop it. This conflict with him is secondary to the threat that is coming and, being a government agent myself in my universe, I know deep down the first priority as an operative is to protect every living person out here. Can you do that?"
The sergeant sighed. "Very well. I'll call a truce with Mr. Hale," she agreed. She then turned to the side of Stiles to call out Derek. "After this situation is handled, I will see you in court, Derek Hale!"
Derek shouted back. "Count on it!"
Harry the pug made his observation known. "This is like a reality show. Real Werewolves of Lighthouse Cove!"
Eli Junior babbled da da da in teen Eli's arms and Claudia gestured to both her grandsons before turning to the pack. "I have a house nearby up the road. All of you will stay there until we formulate our next plan of action tomorrow morning." She then addressed Stiles. "Stiles…"
"Is staying here with me," Derek said sternly. He squeezed Stiles's shoulder. "And so is older Eli."
"And me too!" stated Harry the pug who felt left out.
Derek grinned. "And Harry too. We'll meet you in the morning at your residence for breakfast." His voice was authoritative.
"Fine," clucked Claudia. She pulled a business card from her pocket and handed it to him. "Call me if something comes up. My address is on the card. Meet us for breakfast at my place tomorrow."
Stiles nodded. He watched as his friends got back into the police van but not before Sheriff Stilinksi called out to him. "Son! Stay safe!"
"I will!" The FBI agent called back. Sadly, he watched the vehicle drive off with his friends and family while he noticed everyone else heading back into the cottage. He too followed behind.
"Can't we all just get along?" Harry asked Stiles.
"I hope so, Harry," he said. "I hope so."
He opened the door to let the pug inside and quietly closed it behind him.
After a simple quiet dinner of pasta that Derek made, everyone headed off to bed. Tossing and turning in his underwear on a lumpy mattress, Stiles could not sleep and grabbed a t-shirt and shorts that once belonged to the original Stiles and slowly made his way to the back door that led up to the beach.
High tide had come as a half moon appeared in the night sky displaying a beautiful constellation of stars as he padded barefoot across the sand and down the hill to see the back of a handsome figure staring across the sea. Dressed in a tank top and shorts, Derek hugged his knees to his chest as he meditated for a bit and heard the sound of footsteps coming up behind him.
"I guess you couldn't sleep either," he said as Stiles took a place next to him.
"How did you know it was me?" Stiles asked him.
"Werewolf ears, remember?" He grinned. "You and Eli have a distinct sound when you walk. I can recognize it a mile away. My late husband was the same."
Stiles looked at the worried Alpha. "Still thinking about what Claudia said earlier?"
"She's just blowing hot air as usual," Derek explained. "She doesn't have a case. Grandparents' rights aren't a thing unless the child is in jeopardy and since I'm Eli Junior's biological father, she can't lay any claim on him."
"Was she always this way?" He asked him.
Sadly, Derek nodded. "Look, Stiles, I'm no saint. I lived a hard life, was a party boy in my youth, dabbled in drugs and alcohol and went to rehab for it. Yes, my family is extremely wealthy but they got me the help I needed and I've been clean and sober for over a decade. I met my husband during this time and he became my rock during the ups and downs. We fell in love, married, and the rest is history."
"But you pulled your life together," said Stiles. "You run a successful business, managed to raise Junior as a single dad and you've become a good person. Why can't Claudia see that?"
"She's too blindsided by my old self," Derek told him. "My Stiles was smart, funny, and successful and she felt that as an Omega, he was too good for me. She wanted him partnered with an Alpha that truly deserved him, but in the end he chose me. She cut him off and as much as it pained him, he never regretted marrying me and having Junior. When the cancer happened, he chose to bring Eli into the world rather than terminating the pregnancy."
Taken aback, Stiles raised in surprise and probed further. "What do you mean, Derek? Was I going to…I mean your Stiles was going to abort Eli?"
Tears filled Derek's eyes as he sighed. "Unlike Omega females that can give birth naturally, male Omegas have a C-section performed since they can't deliver anatomically in our universe."
Stiles sucked in his lips and nodded at information. He did wonder how Omega men gave birth. "I kind of thought about that. At least, that explains how men deliver a baby and it's not through their penis and they don't shit one out!"
Derek began to laugh. He had too had to admit how ridiculous it was. He then turned serious. "During his pregnancy, doctors discovered the tumors in his kidneys. They couldn't remove it without jeopardizing the life of the child so Stiles opted to wait until the baby was delivered before the cancer spread. By this time it was too late and it became stage 4."
"Is this why Claudia hates you?" Stiles questioned him. "Because he blames you for her son's death."
The Alpha stared at the rolling waves across them silently. Slowly, he nodded. "I let Stiles make the difficult decision for us. I could live with losing one or the other, not both." By this time, his eyes streaked with tears. "Did I make the right one?" He sobbed. Stiles pulled his head down as his t-shirt became soaked with the Alpha's sadness.
"Shh," he whispered. "It's no one's fault. Speaking as a part of him, Stiles was brave and he made the best decision for the both of you."
Derek lifted his head from him. "Then why can't I stop feeling guilty?" He cried. "Why does it hurt so much?" Raising his hand, he touched Stiles's cheek. "And why every time I look at you, I don't want you to leave me again?"
His thumb touched the tip of the FBI agent's mouth. A part of Stiles wanted to pull away but his body refused. Derek's thumb stroked his mouth as they stared at each other, feeling the heat of attraction that was drawing them closer.
"I know you're not my Stiles," whispered Derek. "You're not him and I don't want you to be."
Stiles swallowed hard. "And I know you're not my Derek but I don't give a fuck."
"Did you ever tell your other Derek how you truly felt?" The Alpha asked him, cupping his chin under his other hand. "Did he know?"
A small tear came out of the FBI agent's eye. "I think he knew, but we'll never know because we both were too cowardly to deal with our feelings. I stayed away for Eli's sake so he could raise him without my interference."
Both Derek's hands tightened on both sides of Stiles's cheeks. "Then he died a fool because he and I are the same and we aren't afraid of admitting and giving in to our feelings."
Before Stiles could protest, the Alpha pressed his lips to his. His mouth and tongue tasted each other and it felt heavenly. For once, Stiles selfishly submitted and everything fell into place. This is where he needed to be.
"Wait!" The FBI agent's mind returned to reason as he pulled away. He looked into Derek's piercing green eyes. "I don't want to use you as someone you aren't."
Derek cast his eyes down before looking back up. "Neither do I. But right now, let's just feed this loneliness as myself and you as the Stiles that you are at this moment. Can we do that?"
No rhyme or reason. Just right now. Stiles silently nodded as he kissed the Alpha and wrapped his arms around him. The pair sank into the sand as they clawed each other's clothes off and gave into their primal urges.
Once more the Alpha looked down at the FBI agent, green eyes returning affection and smiling, as their lips connected as did their bodies. Stiles hesitated for a bit as a concerned Derek held him. "Just to let you know, I'm clean. It's been a long time before I was with anybody else." The FBI agent told the Alpha. "Same." Derek nuzzled his neck.
"Oh and one more thing," Stiles whispered in his ear. "I'm not from your world soooo…I can't get pregnant."
Derek snickered. "Good to know." He returned his attention back to Stiles as they made love in the sand against the sound of the rolling tide for an hour. Realizing that both infant Eli Junior and teenage Eli were sound sleepers, they frolicked naked along the hill back to the cottage where they found themselves inside Derek's bedroom.
It was a good night for all.
Director Claudia's House
Despite all the drama, everyone managed to get some shuteye. Melissa and Chris shared a guest room as did Allison and Scott. Tierney slept on a sofa mattress while Sheriff Stilinski took the recliner next to Tierney. Sergeant Braeden left her house and promised to return the next morning leaving Claudia holding a cup of tea and sitting in a lounge chair of her backyard that faced the beach. The sound of the sliding door caught her attention as the sheriff joined her.
"Couldn't sleep either?" She said, sipping her tea. "I could brew another kettle of tea if it helps."
"Nah, I'm good," said Sheriff Stilinski. "I'm just not good with sleeping in chairs."
"Sorry," Claudia apologized. "All the beds were taken with couples."
"It's okay," the sheriff replied. "I'll manage just fine. Are you still thinking about today's meeting with Derek?"
She exhaled and sipped her tea. "You think I'm a terrible person, don't you? Trying to take away a parent's child?"
"What I think," said Noah. "Is that you're hurt and haven't come to terms with your son's death and you're taking it out on the wrong people."
Claudia bit her lip. "How is it that a stranger that looks like my dead husband makes more sense than my own therapist in this universe?"
"Listen, Director," Noah began.
"Claudia," she corrected him. "I figured since now that we're friends, we might as well go by our first names." She smiled at him.
"Fine," the sheriff smiled back. "Claudia. As I was saying, I don't know what relationship you had with your Stiles but, in my world, Stiles is everything to me. Sure, it wasn't easy being a single dad when my wife died but my Stiles is the smartest, kindest, empathetic, and bravest kid I know." He paused. "Though he does drive me up the wall and he never takes things seriously." He smiled widely. "I love him." He rubbed his chin. "And if he did fall for Derek Hale, I would still love him for the man that he is and will become no matter who he wants to be with."
The Director of the ASA grinned. "Tell me something, Noah. Was your Stiles always so rebellious and rambunctious?"
"Always," laughed Noah. "I mean he managed to sneak out and get into trouble every time I had night patrol." His eyes turned toward the ocean. "Despite everything, he was the buffer and voice of reason when it came to supernatural creatures. He protected Scott and the rest of his friends time and time again and would do it in a heartbeat."
Claudia tossed her head back and smiled again. "Sounds like my Stiles. He loved everyone and saw the good in people. I guess I was just angry that he didn't tell me about the cancerous tumors growing inside of him while he was pregnant with Eli. I'm his mother. I should've been there during those hard months instead of working all the time. I wish…I was more like you, Noah." Tears streaked her face. The sheriff pulled her in and hugged her as she sobbed.
"It's okay," he reassured her. "You did the best you could. You were a great mom. I'm sure Stiles knew that in the end."
Breaking away, Claudia wiped her face with her hand. "I'm sorry. I wish I could believe that. I still feel guilty that I wasn't there during his final days or during the birth of my grandson. I don't think I was the best mom I could be." She inhaled deep. "Now I see you here and Stiles and I'm constantly reminded of my past failures and feel guilty. I wish right now that I can take it all back instead of fucking everything up. I wish…" She sobbed again.
This time Noah pulled her in and held her tight. He let herself release her frustrations and sadness into him as they embraced and felt each other's warm comfort. Slowly, her face raised to see the sheriff at the same time his eyes lowered to hers. Then, their lips touched and they melted.
The kiss lasted a minute before she withdrew and tried to gather some air. "I apologize. I didn't mean for that to happen." Noah grinned. "I'm not." He proved it when he kissed her again. This time, she didn't pull away. She submitted to his mouth and he did the same.
Their connection was perfect.
A loud beep broke the kiss. Instantly, she pushed the sheriff away and looked down at her watch that flashed.
"What is it?" Noah asked.
Her face turned white. "We got trouble! An Abomination has been sighted in the area!" Her face exhibited fear. "Can your friends fight?"
Confused, Noah nodded.
"Good." She ordered him. "Wake everyone up! We're in for a long fight!"
The Sprayberry Household
The television played an endless marathon of repeated informercials as dried blood caked the flatscreen. Broken chairs, tables, and shelving were scattered everywhere as the lifeless body of were-hedgehog, Harold Sprayberry, took up space in the living room in two parts. His head and torso were crucified to the wall while the other half of his legs dangled in a bloody mess, spilling out his liver, kidneys, and intestines in a gross heap onto the destroyed couch.
In the kitchen, the smashed face of an unrecognizable Misty the stripping dodo bird, laid sprawled on the tile floor in a pool of blood as the stranger in a button shirt and dark pants stepped over her corpse and grabbed something from the fridge along with a bottle of water. Making his way to the door that led to the basement, he turned on the light and climbed down the stairs with the food.
Getting to the bottom step, he crossed to the other end of the concrete wall, put down the sandwich and bottled water on a crate and smirked at the mysterious Asian woman chained to the room. Shackled at the neck, Kuza glared at her captor.
"I hope you're hungry," grinned Sebastien Valet in his human form. "I found some food in the fridge upstairs."
"I prefer five star Michelin fine dining," she spat at him. She pulled at the chain that connected to the collar of her neck.
Sebastien laughed. "Surrender to me. It'll be much easier. Those chains are coated with White Oak Ash and forged with iron, a weakness for anyone related to the Fae. And since you carry Fae blood, you are helpless against me. Besides, your katana is destroyed and so are your tails so you can't summon your kitsune abilities and portal jump. Hence, you are my prisoner."
Kuza sneered. "Neither can you. You won't be able to go through other dimensions to complete your mission!"
Sebastien cackled. "I don't need to! I sense that there are two Eli's in this world and a Derek Hale. Once I track them in this universe, I will kill them and absorb their power making me finally a true God! I'll be unstoppable! And once I ascend, I can take all the powers of the supernatural creatures of this universe into me, including all the kitsunes, allowing me the power to portal jump! I will become the true Alpha Beast!" He laughed again.
Kuza taunted him. "But first you have to find them. Even your Beastly ability cannot precisely track any of them. They could be anywhere, on any continent on this planet!"
The Beast smirked. "I've got time, dear kitsune." He pulled a strand of hair off his shirt and showed Kuza. "For now, I've come up with a cheat sheet. This is a piece of Eli Hale's hair before I lost him. In this universe, there are hybrid grotesque chimeras created by this world's Dread Doctors that still exist. I managed to entice one with the scent of a son of Derek Hale. It will find him and his father and allow an opportunity for me to kill them both. He laughed again. "What's the saying? Easy peasy?" He cackled.
Kuza struggled with her chains. "My Circle of Soldiers will take you down, Sebastien! Mark my words!"
"We'll see," smirked the Beast. He left the food for her and marched back up the stairs from the basement.
Clutching her collar, she began to formulate a plan.
Four miles away from the California coast, the thing known as the Abomination swam through the sea. Ignoring the tempting morsels of fish, it had only one goal and that was to kill. A splice amphibious nature mixed with reptilian DNA, the thing darted toward its target. It captured the scent of the hair and sensed multiple people associated with it.
Soon, it would locate it and hunt it down.
