We pick up where we left off with Nami-chan in Konoha's Hospital.
Heart racing, Nami hides her face again, leaning against the inside wall of the room.
Grandmother… Where are you?
Nami nibbles the bread she took from the cart, giving herself a few minutes to rest.
The office door had been open, making it perfect for Nami to hop off the cart while they were distracted. She rode quietly under the cloth that covered the bottom half of the food cart, making it the perfect way to stealthily move from where she was to… wherever she is now. Luckily, she was able to eat some food too!
Nami watches them move further away, then stays in place, hiding in the dark room. Just as before, the child waits to see if someone is coming her way. So far, she's seen no sign of her grandmother. But at least they haven't caught her yet.
Maybe grandmother can't find me. Nami chews her lip as she checks once more. If I get outside, maybe she'll see me! Nodding to herself, Nami feels her determination come back. With her new plan, Nami moves stealthily down the long corridors, looking for an exit.
Several tense minutes pass this way as Nami moves carefully from room to room, corridor to corridor. Every time she hears someone approach, Nami ducks into a room or behind a large object. It is nerve-wracking, making her fingers shake in fear. But she doesn't give up!
Nami is a good girl. She'll get out all by herself, and her grandmother will be proud that They didn't hurt her.
Soon, however, Nami's exhaustion returns, stronger than it was before. The fatigue pulls at her, as if she had heavy stones, or her grandmother's travel pack tied to her body.
Her back hurts again, and sweat makes her bangs stick to her face. Nami tries not to cry from the pain and fear–she needs to get away.
And Nami thinks she's close! Right now, she's in a busy hallway, stuck behind a big box that hums beneath her fingers. Earlier, she saw people put money into it and get food out of it! When they walked away, she quickly came over, searching for how to get something. But after a few seconds of studying it, more people approached, so she hid again.
Now, Nami crouches on the other side, waiting for the coast to clear. Beyond the people, lies her goal: the metal room that 'dinged.' It was what she rode earlier while she hid on the cart. Nami thinks it leads to other parts of the building. But most importantly, Nami thinks that's her way out.
When another group of people stop to talk, Nami bites back a whimper, pressing her forehead to the metal box. The pain makes it hard to focus, and she wants to sleep so badly.
"What do we have here?" A deep voice suddenly comes from above her.
Nami's eyes snap wide with fear. She shakes, rigid in surprise.
"You're not supposed to be here." Nami's eyes slowly lift to see a frowning person. This person wears long white sleeves, matching pants, and a white head covering that leaves only their face free.
The men in white found her. They found her. They will take her from grandmother.
("After all, our family is known for their bright colors...") Miho's voice echoes in her mind like a faded dream.
One of Them frowns when she doesn't respond. "Where did you come from?"
Nami's breathing speeds up as her panic rises. No! She's so close!
Instead, she whimpers, leaning against the wall.
Another one of Them comes over. "What's wrong? Wait, is that a patient? Why are they down here?" The new person's eyes widen, looking from Nami to the first person.
No, no, no! There's more of Them!
("And your hair is so pretty…")
One of the people reaches out for the hyperventilating girl, and Nami snaps from the pressure.
"NO!" She cries out in Uzek, swiping her hand through the air as quickly as she can. A wave of energy leaves her body, making contact with the one reaching for her. Her only thought is she needs to leave. DON'T TOUCH ME!
It connects.
On impact, the person in white flies back as if pushed away by a force of energy. They slam into the wall a few feet behind them, clattering a shelf. They groan, bolts of energy darting over their skin like lightning.
For a moment, Nami and the other person stare at the unconscious Man in White, shocked. The people that were talking earlier rush over at the commotion.
"What did you do? COME HERE!" The other Man in White reaches for her, moving faster than his partner had.
Nami doesn't hesitate. She moves.
With a yell of desperation, she darts between the legs of the other Man in White. As she slides out, she nearly runs into another set of hands.
"STOP HER!"
Nami yells out, throwing her hands up again. She feels another rush of energy leave her body. It lashes out at the new set of hands, trying to get them like before, but this person is prepared. They move aside, giving an opening for another person in white to grab her.
"NO!" Nami cries, yanking her arm as one catches and holds her wrist in a firm hold. She starts twisting and pulling. "LET GO!"
The person holding her grunts in pain. "What's she saying?! She doesn't make any sense!"
The second man in white from earlier kneels by his friend, hands glowing green. "I don't fucking know. Is she a trauma patient?" His friend groans, opening their eyes.
Nami shouts again as she's hoisted up. "NO! PUT ME DOWN! BAABAA!" She manages to kick the person holding her, but they only tighten their hold, pinning her arms to her sides to stop her.
Moments from earlier in the day flash in her mind:
("The reports were mixed, but apparently they found her by the border.")
The person holding keeps her still as another person comes up. One of their hands glows green like the other Man in White. "I'll put her out with this." Chakra, like the kind her grandmother used with her magic words. Chakra, like the kind that could hurt her.
Nami's eyes shrink in panic. "LEAVE ME ALONE! BAABAA!" Nami tries twisting free.
("She was caught in some sort of explosion.")
Her arm comes loose, her small size helping her. She blindly jabs her elbow back.
It connects! The person gasps, nearly dropping her. It's chaos.
"Fuck! Someone grab that kid!"
"Don't hurt her!"
"She took down two people, stop her!"
("They think whoever she was with got caught in the blast that injured her.")
Nami only gets a few steps toward the metal room that 'dings' before she's grabbed roughly. She cries out fearfully as she trips, landing heavily on the ground. A large hand holds her wrist again, yanking her up and back.
"That's ENOUGH from you." The Man in White growls, anger in their eyes.
She trembles, breath coming short. The corners of her visions grow dark. She feels faint. No…
"I got her! What room is she from?" The Man in White's voice fades to a dull yell. Everything seems muffled.
They got her.
Another person in white comes up, hand glowing with green chakra.
Baabaa…
As the hand closes in on her face, everything slows down.
Nami's vision goes white.
Then
she
SCREAMS.
A final blast of chakra leaves her body, bigger than the last ones. It shocks the person holding her. They yell as chakra shoots down their body, jerking as if electrocuted. They drop her.
Nami falls to the floor, eyes rolling back.
The person who held their hand out, yells too. They yank their hand away, but not fast enough. "GAAAH!" Nami's chakra seeps into their arm and sears its way into their chakra network. "W-What is this?!" They fall to their knees clutching their arm. On their skin, dark purple lines travel up their arm as her chakra burns its way through their body, blasting tenketsu.
Another person suddenly darts in, veins bulging on their face and head. With quick fingers, they jab precise points on the screaming medic's body before he collapses in shock.
In the still silence after, everyone is tense.
The exchange was quick, but there were injuries. One medic nin's chakra pathway is fried in their right arm, and two nurses lay unconscious, one still twitching from an unknown chakra technique.
All because of one little girl.
"I'll report this to the military police, so they can come investigate." The last person who intervened, a man with flowing robes and white, pupiless eyes, shares with the group at large.
Another medic and a couple nurses come. They check over the different injured people. "Thank you, Hyuuga-san."
One little girl did this?
Said child is picked up. "Her chakra levels are low!" One of the nurses curse, coming over with a stretcher. "Let's take her to the ICU before her exhaustion gets severe!" They move her onto the mat. "And someone sedate her!"
In the clearing chaos after the incident, the Hyuuga shinobi looks at the damage of the scene. All because of one little girl.
As he leaves the hospital a few minutes later, the Hyuuga couldn't help but think back to several days prior when his team first brought the child back to the village after finding her, injured and near death.
First the gibberish, and now she can use chakra-based techniques? Who is she?
Maybe she isn't a random orphan after all.
