The Originals: What Remains (Kalijah; Klatherine friendship)
Summary: Set in 5x6 "What, Will, I, Have, Left" ep. Kat escapes the prison world Kai's trapped in, and when she finds out that Elijah doesn't have his memories, can she get Elijah's memories back? When Klaus tells her about The Hollow, can she find a way to save everyone from The Hollow? If both Hope and Hayley are saved, will Elijah choose Hayley, or will he go back to Kat? If Elijah and Kat get back together, will Klaus let them be happy?
It was a nebulous night in a bar, as Elijah Mikaelson played on the piano, though all of the usual people had gone. He liked this life, despite others telling him that he had a different life. One with a family he'd been devoted to. He didn't want that life though, because he had no memory of it.
When a human Katherine entered a bar in hopes for a drink after escaping a prison world, she stopped for a few moments, seeing her ex and love playing at a piano by himself. He seemed different, so she decided to take caution. Then, before she said anything and when she approached, he spoke without looking at her.
"We're closed," he stated to her.
She went to stand by the piano where he could see her.
"Yeah, well, a drink is the least of my concerns," she replied. Then, seeing that he didn't act like he knew her, she assumed that he probably had somehow been forced to forget. And she was proven right when he replied to her.
"If you've come to force me to be a part of the Mikaelsons like Klaus tried to do, you'll fail. I may not have my memories, but I know the Elijah everyone seems to think they know was lucky if he got just an ounce of happiness. I'm happy where I am. And I don't care what's happened to Hayley and Hope, whoever they are, so you can just leave."
"I originally came for a drink. Yes, I do know you from when you had your memories, but I'd just want you happy. We were happy off and on, but you left to follow Klaus. You never came back, either. And I don't blame you, whether you have your memories or not. I'm curious, though. How long ago was Klaus here?"
"Not long ago. Who are you?" he replied, wanting to know.
"It doesn't matter right now. I just care that you're alive, but most of all, more happy than I've seen you in a long time."
She rested a hand on his arm and gave him a smile, before walking away, leaving to go find Klaus. She knew that she had to restore his memories, but it had to be with Klaus' help. She needed his help. She couldn't do this without Klaus.
Suddenly, after half an hour of walking through the almost empty streets in search of the hybrid, she was snuck up on and ended up against a wall with a vampire feeding on her. She hadn't felt like she'd been watched or followed, so it surprised her. She couldn't do much as a human though, since she couldn't really fight a vampire and win anymore. Not when she only had active Traveler magic, which didn't help when she was starting to feel weak.
What seemed like a while later, as everything began to go gray, she felt the fangs leave her neck. Then she felt the ground and heard a familiar voice.
"No one hurts Katerina and lives," he stated, as everything began to fade. Then she heard the familiar sound of someone's heart being ripped out and someone hitting the ground.
Klaus had been still seething from Elijah's words, so when he smelled blood, he was going to take the opportunity to go kill someone. That's when he found the scene and immediately tossed an unfamiliar vampire off her. Then he took his chance and ripped out his heart, letting him fall dead. He then dropped the heart, before turning to look at her.
He blurred to her side, where she lay on her side, pale from blood loss. He knew she'd died more than a few years ago, so he didn't know how she was alive, much less if she could digest blood this time around. Even without Elijah's memories though, he knew he had to save her for Elijah's sake.
He rested a hand on her arm, looking at her.
"Katerina? Can you hear me, Katerina? Open your eyes."
After a few moments, he gently got her on her back, before sliding a hand under her, pulling her gently and carefully into his arms, realizing that she'd lost a lot of blood. He knew the danger she was in. He could hear her slow and shallow breathing, and see her weak pulse.
"Stay with me, sweetheart," he called, as he gently pulled her into his arms, supporting her head. He then bit his wrist and put the wound to her lips, forcing his blood down her throat. "Come on, Katerina. Keep breathing for me."
After a few minutes, her wound began to heal, so he took his wrist away, relieved that she'd be okay.
When she woke up, she saw that she was still in the alley with Klaus. She then sat up and looked at him.
"Thanks," she said with a smile. Then she added, "I was looking for you, anyway. I just didn't expect all of this to happen. In case you're wondering how I'm alive, I escaped a prison world. Then I go find a bar and realize that Elijah's not himself. Before I died, I learned that I'm descended from Travelers. I could bring back all of his memories, but I'd need your help. I don't know what he'd do now if I tried to restore those memories he clearly doesn't want. In another universe, I'd probably like him starting over without his memories, but not if it means never being with his family again. Especially, when you need him. All of you. I never saw eye to eye with the wolf, but when a child is in trouble, that's cause for action."
"What's your plan, luv?" he asked of her, glad to have help with restoring his memories.
She started to get to her feet, which he helped her do, as he got to his. Despite her being healed, she'd lost a lot of blood when she'd been injured. He wanted to be cautious with her.
"It'll be easier with him asleep," she said.
An hour later, with Elijah on the floor of the bar, Kat did a spell to reverse what had been done to him. Then, after Klaus told her about The Hollow, she created a prison world and put The Hollow there forever.
Kat knelt at Elijah's side whom began to wake up.
"Katerina," he stated, and they both got to their feet.
"I see you're back, so as much as I'd like a reunion, you have some family to save. It's time for you to go," she replied.
"Actually, I think you should go with us," Klaus intervened.
Kat looked at Klaus.
"Very well then," she replied. She didn't feel like arguing, after all. Besides, she wanted to know if Hope was okay or not. And she didn't want Hope to lose her mother. That, and she was feeling weak from two spells and what she'd been through tonight.
Klaus left the bar first to go get the SUV ready of his, but also to give her and Elijah some time. He was ambitious to make sure that Hayley and Hope would be okay, but a part of him wanted Katerina to be safe as well. And he knew doing two spells when you were a witch made you weak, which he knew Katerina wasn't. She was only descended from Travelers. She was strong, but she was human again now. Doing two spells after having lost a lot of blood, he knew made it worst for her.
As Klaus left the bar, Kat looked at Elijah. They had a lot to work out after the last time they were in the same room, but she was just happy to have him back. Even if they never got back together again. As long as he was alive and had his memories all intact, she was happy. She'd do anything for him, just as she knew he'd do for her, despite caring deeply for Hayley.
Elijah could sense that something was up. He knew there'd be a lot to talk about. For one, she was somehow human and two, she somehow had magic. And it seemed that his hybrid brother and Katerina had somehow buried the hatchet. That was surprising to him, considering both of them were great at holding grudges for centuries on end.
He approached, standing by her.
"Are you okay?"
"I'll be fine, eventually. For now, I just need some time to rest. Giving you back your memories and sending The Hollow into a prison world for eternity takes a lot out of a person. Especially, someone that had to be rescued from a vampire by Klaus tonight. And I'm no witch," she truthfully told him, knowing he always tended to find things out himself, even if he wasn't told about them. "Let's just go," she added.
He put an arm around her to help her, and they headed outside to the SUV, ready to go rescue Hayley and Hope, wherever they were. Sure, Katerina could probably locate them, but neither of them were going to chance anything when she was already weak as it was. They'd wait until they returned home to ask for witch assistance. Someone that was trustworthy enough.
After a few days of rest and taking it easy, Kat was herself again. Elijah and Klaus had even been able to find out where Hayley and Hope had been taken, and they'd been able to save them both. So, in the end, everyone lived. Kat and Elijah even had a chat and got back together again.
