Chapter 16: The Nutrition Group Social

The next day, we all went to Alex's nutrition group social at the Schenley Park pool. "Hi, guys!" I greeted my friends. "Hi, Angel!" Sarah greeted back. We jammed out to NSYNC, 98 Degrees, Kate Bush, and Lizzo prior to the social. "Look, pinecones!" Carly stated, looking around the swimming pool. "That reminds me of yesterday's craft in Lawrenceville," Mr. Benson stated. "Boy do I wish I could own a bird for a pet again just like I did as a teenager," Spencer admitted. "I am so happy to have invited you all to this wonderful event," Alex happily stated. "At a swimming pool, which makes the occasion even better!" "Who in here remembers the Brackenridge Heights Country Club swimming pool?" Justin asked. "I do," Max responded. "It was great!" "Everything about the spring and summer of 2010 was great, and I am dressed up a bit nicer since I am presenting and receiving an award today!" We started off with a few games regarding nutrition and summer foods, then a practice buffet, then awards for best representation and journal entries during the school year, then an Open Mic in which Alex sang covers of her favorite 98 Degrees songs, and finally, the part of the party that everyone likes and has been waiting for... swimming even though the water was pretty cold! "Thanks for inviting us to your social, Alex," Sarah happily thanked. "It ended up being a wonderful and successful event!" "No problem, Sarah," Alex replied. "That is going to be the last of nutrition group, however, until the fall season." "It is okay to have dessert once in a while, as long as you do not eat it on a regular basis," Sarah stated. "One dessert that I would like right now is my 15th birthday cake." "I chose fresh fruit with whipped cream for my dessert," Alex explained, "along with a healthy cheeseburger, corn on the cob, vegetable and pasta salads, and of course, lemonade to drink." "I am thankful that you care about your health and figure," Sarah pointed out. "Not everyone I know cares about the health, like my boyfriend, Benedict, who got suspended from school due to drug and alcohol overdose, and then he died of the omicron variant of coronavirus last year." "I cannot wait for the 4th of July double feature at Kennywood and Sandcastle," James happily stated. "Me too," Henri stated. "I am looking forward to all of the traditional 4th of July foods!" "I like traditional 4th of July food, too, but I like to eat healthier and lighter because I support my best friends in the group," Sarah happily stated. "As stated yesterday, my all-time favorite "healthy" summertime foods include fruit salad, frozen fruit bars, and corn on the cob, with fruit smoothies, grilled chicken sandwiches, and fat-free frozen yogurt all in second, followed by hamburgers, hot dogs, and ice cream," Alex stated. "I also wanted to tell you that Chloe is okay." "Your cat?" I asked. "What happened to her?" "When I arrived at my parents' house this weekend, I found Chloe unconscious like she was dying, but then today, she was alive and kicking. I think that she may have been stunned from all of the thunderstorms." "Chloe is your white cat," Sarah stated. "I wonder how our old cats, Silky and Buttercup, are doing. They are probably with my mom and stepdad now." Once the social was over, it was time for all of us to go home. "Thanks for a great day, everyone!" I thanked my friends. "You're welcome, Angel," Sarah replied. "Good night, guys!" "Good night!"
