Jean-Luc Picard supervised the crew tidying up the bridge, then visited the sickbay at Beverly's request. When he stepped to the sickbay, he immediately noticed the girl and his first officer sleeping on a biobed. The nurses covered them with a blanket, but their upper bodies were visible. He almost laughed out loud, because those two were sleeping in the same position: on their sides, right arm stretched out, their left arms rested on their stomach. The only difference was, while the girl was hugging a plush toy with her left arm, Seven of Nine's arm was empty. They were both dreaming. Their dreams were pleasant, because they both smiled in their dreams. Moreover they both moved in sync: they turned to their back, and swapped their arms' position. Seven avoided to touch the child even in her sleep, her right arm rested under her breasts, but the girl's left arm crushed the woman's chest, and she put her toy onto Seven's belly.

"Cute sight, isn't it?" Beverly asked smiling. "I can't get enough of them."

Jean-Luc cleared his throat. They were cute, but he and children… not a match.

"Do I ask why my first officer is also sleeping next to the child?"

Beverly nodded hear head toward her office, and the Captain understood the movement. He followed her to her office, where Deanna Troi was waiting for them. They all sat down, before the doctor began talking.

"Commander Seven of Nine got a mild nervous breakdown. I gave her a dose of sedative. That's why she is sleeping now."

" A nervous breakdown? This strong woman?" the Captain asked surprised. "She's the last person I could imagine doing that! Why?"

"Because of the child" Deanna replied. "Already on the bridge I felt that she had problems with the child and that she knew her from somewhere. Or at least suspected something about the girl. As if she knew who the girl was, and because of that she hated the little one at first sight."

"Well, I can confirm her suspicions" Beverly sighed. "The little girl is fully human, and her father is dr. Lewis Zimmerman."

"THAT dr. Lewis Zimmerman?" the Captain asked amazed. "The famous engineer?"

"Yes, that one."

"And the mother is..."

"Seven of Nine."

Silence fell to the room. A famous engineer, and a Borg. Natural pairing. What could have happened between them?

"I didn't even know they knew each other" Deanna started.

"They have never ever met" Beverly shook her head. "According to the information the Commander told me."

"They had to meet once, they had a child together. Although I can't even imagine how. The Commander has lived on the Romulan border until now, and Zimmerman is famous for not moving out from the Jupiter station."

"Was their fetus put into stasis?" Deanna asked.

"No, there's no trace of the stasis on the child. It seems she naturally conceived and born."

"Did the Commander give birth to her?"

"That's the strange thing! There aren't any traces of delivering, pregnancy, abortion, or even conceiving on her. I thoroughly examined her" Beverly shook her head.

"Don't tell me, she haven't even got a partner!" Deanna said shocked.

"No, she had one. The Commander confirmed this fact. But she couldn't even getting pregnant from that relationship."

"There is no 100 percent birth control" Deanna shook her head.

"I thought so too, but in this case it's 100 percent" Beverly sighed. "The Commander is in love with the Voyager's EMH."

"A hologram?" Jean-Luc and Deanna asked in unison.

Beverly nodded.

"The famous hologram, with mobile emitter is our Commander's one and only love."

"Was" Deanna corrected.

"Present tense" Beverly smiled. "She is still in love with him."

"And the Doctor?"

"From what the Commander told me, I think the feeling is mutual. At least it was mutual 20 years ago."

"Why did they break up?"

"They didn't break up. The Doctor rejected her. He wanted Seven to live a normal life, and being with a hologram is anything, but normal. So he sent her away, to be a human."

"Which doesn't work for the Commander. Every day is all about the struggles for her" the Captain added.

"Maybe Voyager's doctor expected that too. Or he couldn't forget the Commander either. Or he didn't even want to. He just sacrificed their relationship for the chance of a normal life for the Commander. But he left a loophole in case it didn't happen that way."

"What do you mean?"

"I examined thoroughly the Commander's reproductive organs, and I found a small scar on her left ovary."

"A scar? Is it something strange?"

"In this case, it is. The scar is a surgical scar."

"Which means..."

"Which means somebody removed ovum or ovums from her ovary in surgical way."

"How many?"

"One … or three hundred… it cannot be determined."

"Do you think Voyager's EMH could have done this?" Deana asked dumbfounded. A hologram and a Borg's love, and their offspring. It was far from normal. But she at least understood the love of them.

"Probably...The original EMHs were designed after dr. Zimmerman, so it is logical, when he wanted a child with his love, he chose Zimmerman as a donor."

"Are you sure?" the Captain asked.

"Genes don't lie. And I did the investigation after talking to the Commander. She clearly identified the child's father."

The Captain looked surprised.

"HOW?"

"She said she couldn't endure his eyes on the child. That's why I searched for directly the specific genes. I was right."

"That's why her nerves collapsed!" Deanna finally understood the behavior of the Borg.

"Yes. She couldn't bear that her love made a child with someone else. It was the last drop for her. She has also been carrying the pain of rejection for a long time, along with several other feelings, and the combined effect of them has shredded her nerves."

"Yes, it's no wonder" Deanna nodded.

"Does she know that she is the mother?" the Captain asked.

Beverly shook her head.
