AN: Hey everyone, I apologize for the long wait between updates. Sadly seemed to have lost my spark recently. Very fortunately though, thanks to help from Story's Shadow, Rushstar32, and Death Fury, I feel my spark has been reignited, and I will hopefully be able to pump out more chapters frequently. Special Thanks goes to Story's Shadow for writing this excellent chapter. Also if you have not done so: Please go vote on Rushstar32's Poll that is on her author page, and please check out Death Fury's new Marvel/Force Unleashed crossover. Unto the show my good friends.
The three hurried into a small cave. "Jacob! Clear the nearby ground! Cassie! Grab my medicines!"
Meta's students nodded. Jacob quickly cleared the immediate ground of gravel and rocks while Cassie brought a sack over. She opened it and quickly laid the contents within beside Meta as he knelt to the ground and gently placed Doreen in front of him. He looked over the bottles and potions before him.
Doreen's bite wound was now a crimson red and her breathing rapid. She was shivering and shaking.
Jacob looked to Meta, sweating.
"How long does she have?"
"Not long."
He quickly opened one of the potions and put a drop on each of the marks from the serpent's fangs. The redness slowly disappeared.
"Wha-? What are you-?"
Doreen panted.
Cassie put a hand on on her forehead.
"She's burning up."
"The potion cleaned the immediate bite wound. But it's not enough."
Meta took another vial and poured it into Doreen's mouth, leaning her head up then gently laying her back down.
Doreen gasped and her breath slowed.
"What...What was?"
"To keep your body and mind calm."
Meta put the vials, bottles, and potions to the side.
"Now comes the difficult part."
Meta straightened his back, inhaling and exhaling, his hands pressed together and eyes closing.
Doreen's eyes shifted from the hedgehog to the cat and finally to the wolf, tears in her eyes.
"Pl-Please...I-I..."
Cassie put her hand on Doreen's hand, gently shushing her.
Meta began to chant in a language that Doreen didn't understand, though it sounded similar to Japanese or Chinese to her. Meta's hands slowly motioned in his hands in the air in circles, which slowly began to glow. Doreen's eyes widened.
"W-Whoa."
Meta then moved his hands to Doreen, gently pressing against the bite wound, her head, and heart.
"What are you-?"
Then she gasped, eyes wide. She gently raised her hand, it was no longer shaking.
Meta hands moved back, pressed together and the glow disappeared. His eyes slowly opened and his hands rested on his knees.
"The venom has been purged from you. You will be fine."
Doreen's eyes widened.
"I-I...I don't know what to say."
Cassie chuckled.
"I guess that's close to a 'thank you' that you'll get, sensei."
Doreen chuckled, turning from Cassie to Meta.
"Thank you."
Meta nodded. He turned, gently placing the sack's contents back in.
Cassie gently shook Doreen's shoulder.
"You're going to be ok. Those serpents are definitely deadly. You were falling to the venom faster than many we have seen."
"Well...squirrels are quite vulnerable to snakes."
Meta turned back, shaking his head.
"He disgraces the serpents, they were some of our best healers."
Doreen scratched her head at this.
"What?"
Meta sighed.
"I believe we should talk."
-Secret Warriors' base, A Few Hours Later-
Ghost Spider looks at her watch, the others sitting around the common area.
"Doreen should've been back an hour ago at most."
Rayshaun sat in a chair, arms crossed.
"Maybe she caught up in some petty crime? With the attacks, people have been trying to operate under our nose."
"Maybe."
Dante juggled fireballs from where he sat while Daisy looked through her phone.
"I'm not seeing anything online about sightings of Doreen."
Dante smirked.
"Maybe she's going...what do some say?...Oh! 'Radio silent'?"
Vixen's ears flattened.
"Hope she's ok."
Dante grinned.
"Doreen knows how to take care of herself. She's fine."
Kamala's arms were crossed, fingers tapping on her left arm.
"We should contact her through the communicator."
Riri tapped her communicator a few times.
"SG, it's Iron Heart! Come in SG!"
Vulpine scratched his chin, watching Riri repeat this act a few more times. Then his gaze turned to Rayshaun, whose leg was shaking. Rayshaun turned to Daisy, pulled out his phone.
"We should text her."
"Good idea."
Both quickly sent texts. They would repeat this every five minutes or so for the next 15 minutes. Rayshaun, eyes widened a little at this.
"Nothing?"
The others turned to look at him, but his gaze quickly relaxed as he rubbed his chin.
"She could be near some noise. I'll call her."
Some of the Secret Warriors nodded as Rayshaun used speed dial to contact Doreen's phone. Vixen's ears perked up. The call went to Doreen's voicemail. Rayshaun frowned at this, ending the call. He stood up, pacing.
"Maybe she turned off her phone to stop any distractions? Or perhaps she left it here and kept it off for the same reasons?"
Vixen's head cocked to the side.
"Rayshaun? We can go look for her."
"No...No...No I'm sure she's fine."
Vixen turned to Daisy, who put away her phone and stood up.
"Gear up everyone. Let's track her communicator."
Rayshaun rubbed the back of his neck.
"Maybe we should, I just don't know if we should-"
Daisy raised a hand, Rayshaun quieted down.
"Better safe than sorry."
Rayshaun nodded.
-Outside The city, Several Minutes Later-
The Secret Warriors, Vixen, and Vulpine walked through the woods.
Patriot was sweating.
"Maybe she saw someone run out here and gave chase? Or maybe she a squirrel told her about some trouble out here?"
Ms. Marvel put a hand on his shoulder.
"Don't worry, I'm sure she's fine."
"I'm not worried, just trying to guess at what's going on."
Ms. Marvel slowly nodded.
Inferno looked around.
"You sure I should've come? If a fight comes, I'm afraid I might start a forest fire."
Quake sighed.
"SG's tough, so if she's been taken we may need everyone to get her back...well...everyone except Chavez..."
Iron Heart turned gaze to her.
"When will she back from her mission?"
"A few days, unless something changes or I'm mistaken."
Ghost Spider leapt from one tree branch to another.
"I'm not sensing anything. Maybe the GPS was wrong?"
Iron Heart shook her head.
"I updated the tech, it's not wrong."
Ghost Spider nodded.
Iron Heart looked at the GPS within her helmet.
"We're coming up on her, she's close."
Vixen suddenly held up her hand. Both her and Vulpine's sniffed. Patriot.
"She's nearby?"
Vixen's eyes widened.
Patriot walked up to stand beside her.
"Is she hiding? Trying to sneak up on someone?"
Vulpine heard his voice crack a little as the young man tried to keep his composure. Then his gaze turned to Vixen, who rushed ahead. He and the others followed her. Moving around some brush, they found Doreen's communicator on the ground. Vixen held it up, seeing something dark red dried onto it. Vixen's snarled a little.
"Blood...hers."
Patriot gulped, hands shaking.
"Can you track her?"
Vixen and Vulpine sniffed. Vulpine's eyes widened. A growl rumbled in Vixen's throat.
"I can...I can smell a few others, but her blood nearly masked it...she smells..."
Quake knelt down beside Vixen.
"Smells what?"
"I...I don't know...it smells...off."
Quake's eyes narrowed.
"She was attacked...and whoever attacked her took her."
Ms. Marvel looked at her, eyes widened.
"Maybe someone took her to help her?"
"I'm not so sure."
Ms. Marvel gulped a little. Quake's gaze softened at this.
"I hope I'm wrong, but either way, let's save Doreen."
"And if you're right?"
"Let's just pray I'm not."
