-Secret Warriors' Base, The Next Day-
Gwen, Daisy, and Rayshaun started gearing up. They handed each other equipment as they suited up. Gwen grunted as she rubbed her head, the headache still giving continual aches.
"Why isn't this thing gone yet?!"
Daisy put one hand on her shoulder.
"Easy, you can't let pain distract you on the mission."
"I know, I know...I just wish it would go away. Maybe it will when I-"
"Hey guys!"
The trio turned, seeing Doreen, Dante, and Kamala. Each of them had a plate of food in hand. Doreen grinned.
"You guys going on a mission and didn't tell us?"
Gwen gave an embarrassed smile, shoulders raising up.
"Yeah, sorry guys. We got word there may have been a sighting of Metatron, Cassandra, and Jacob."
The trio with the food's smile disappeared. Dante's eyes narrowed slightly.
"I'm coming, you're gonna need help bringing them down."
Daisy shook her head.
"No, we've got this guys. We're gonna try to follow them to whatever hideout they have now. Once we find it, we'll set up an ambush."
Kamala rubbed the back of her neck.
"Umm...I hate to break it to you guys...but I'm pretty sure they'll hear or smell you coming."
Rayshaun grinned slightly.
"We've been working on our stealth training...and we'll be masking our scent with odors on the streets."
He held out a spray bottle.
Dante shook his head.
"I don't like this guys."
Gwen pulled her mask over her face.
"Don't worry, they won't know we were ever there."
The three then walked off. Kamala and Dante sighed before walking in the direction they were originally going. Doreen watched her friends walk off and sighed, eventually following Kamala and Dante after watching Ghost Spider, Quake, and Patriot leave.
-Streets Of Manhattan, Several Minutes Later-
Quake and Patriot looked over an empty street on the roof of a building while Ghost Spider laid back against the wall beneath them. Patriot lowered onto one knee.
"The Intel said they'd be close."
Ghost-Spider scratched her head.
"Why so close to Central Park?"
Quake looked over the sight, arms crossed.
"Far enough from people to hardly be noticed and close enough to key places for food. Not a bad spot."
Ghost Spider scoffed.
"Here I thought you'd never compliment a criminal."
"Well as you know...something's off."
Patriot sighed.
"I still don't feel good about going behind Vixen's back."
Quake's stoic visage faltered.
"None of us do...we just know something's fishy about this situation. And finding these three will help once we capture them here."
Patriot turned to Quake.
"I thought we-"
"-if we tell the others about our suspicions and even if we're just slightly right Vulpine will disappear...maybe Vixen with him. Then we'll have lost our best chance against the invaders. Besides, we may not have a choice. Look!"
Patriot and Ghost Spider looked down in the direction Quake pointed. Metatron, Cassandra, and Jacob were across three streets when Patriot and Ghost Spider spotted them. Quake leapt forward.
"After them!"
Patriot followed behind Quake as Ghost Spider leapt from where she laid and web swung across the street. She leapt over the trio and jumped done in front of them. Quake and Patriot raced behind them, surrounding the trio in an abandoned parking lot. Meta, Cassie, and Jacob stood back to back.
Quake stood up, leveling her fists towards the trio.
"It's over, surrender."
Meta turned to his students, all three nodded to one another and took fighting stances. Quake's eyes narrowed as she fired her seismic blasts. But the trio leapt over it. Cassie hissed at Quake as the latter charged her. The Cat blocked Quake's jabs and ducked under her roundhouse kick. Cassie back flipped a few times, Quake rushing forward. The Cat jumped onto a fence and knelt forward with no sign of her losing balance. Quake's eyes widened for a moment but then quickly narrowed as she leapt forward.
Ghost Spider spun around, grumbling.
"You're gonna pay for the headaches you've been giving me!"
Meta quickly stood up, taking a combat stance. Ghost Spider growled as she leapt forward. She swung another haymaker, the speed of her punch almost blinding. The Wolf ducked his head then twisted with his body to the side. As he turned, he sweep kicked Ghost. Ghost Spider grunted as she landed on her hands and pushed herself up. She landed on a broken down car nearby.
"Why you-!"
She growled as she lunged forward.
Patriot grunted as he rushed forward, using his shield to block the small stones Jacob telekinetically threw at him.
"Pebbles?! Seriously?! Gonna have to do better than that!"
Patriot grunted as he rolled out of the way of larger stones that were aimed at his feet. He then stopped his momentum and lowered down to where most of his body was behind his shield. From it, he fired missiles at Jacob. But the Hedgehog held one hand up, each missile froze in the air a few feet away from him before they dropped to the ground. Patriot sighed.
"Great."
He rushed forward and tried to bash his opponent with his shield. Jacob evaded by stepping around the young man. The Hedgehog grunted as he jumped out of the way as Patriot tried to tackle him. When he realized this had failed, Patriot rolled forward and tried to kick out with one foot. But his opponent jumped backwards. Patriot grunted as he stood up and rushed forward again. Jacob dodged his head to the side as Patriot threw a jab at him before he slipped under a kick.
Meta side stepped each jab or uppercut Ghost Spider threw at him. The arachnid heroine growled as she fired some webbing at the Wolf. But Meta leapt over and back flipped over his opponent's attempt to ensnare him. Ghost's eyes widened and her face burned bright red under her mask.
"This won't be so easy to dodge!"
She back flipped and fired several small balls of webbing forward. Metatron kicked up a tire which all the webbing hit rather than him. Ghost's eyes widened.
"NO!"
Metatron raised an eyebrow. Ghost Spider raced forward and threw out a wide arced kick at her opponent's head. But the Wolf slipped to the side, his gaze on her kick. The young spider heroine grunted as she turned throwing several jabs and haymakers. Metatron dodged or pushed aside each strike.
"Your passion is a powerful motivator, you just need to work on your technique."
Jacob laughed as he blocked the jab from Patriot with one hand as he slipped under and pushed the young hero away.
"Really, Sensei? Free lessons?"
Cassandra's focus shifted to this and grinned.
"You know our Sensei, always a teacher."
Metatron blocked the haymaker from Ghost Spider, one hand locked onto her wrist the other struck a few fingers at her biceps a few times. Ghost Spider gasped.
"What did you-?!"
"It's alright, the chi in your arm will flow back into it soon."
Ghost Spider growled as she rushed forward.
Cassie evaded the strikes from Quake, slipping under or around the jabs and kicks. The Cat grunted as she dodged and wove, her opponent unable to lay a finger on her. Quake grunted as she steadied herself, her eyes studied her opponent. Cassandra's agility was something she should've anticipated better.
Quake grunted as she fired another seismic blast, but Cassie leapt over it and landed on the ground without a sound. The young agent cracked her neck as she rushed forward, throwing a mix of jabs, chops, and kicks. But every strike was evaded by the Cat. Cassandra leapt back onto one of the broken down cars.
Quake grunted as she balanced herself as she leapt onto the car before throwing a swift kick. Cassie moved her head back, her foe's foot breezed by just a few inches from her face. The Cat jumped onto the fence and ran its length, Quake chasing her. The young agent shouted as she fired one seismic blast after another.
Quake stopped chasing her opponent, her mind shifted to another tactic. She smirked at the Cat.
"A terrorist, huh? Your parents must be so proud!"
Metatron and Jacob instantly turned their attention to Quake, the latter spoke.
"Uh oh."
Cassie's eyes widened before her pupils constricted into slits and her ear flattened. Quake's smirk slowly retreated at the hiss that emerged from Cassandra. While the young woman had heard and seen an angry cat before, seeing that on her opponent was more than she expected. Cassandra lunged forward and was on Quake before the young woman could try to move out of the way.
The Cat grabbed one of Quake's wrists as the agent tried to punch her. Quake's grunted as she threw a jab at Cassandra's face, but the Cat blocked her attack with her other hand. Cassandra's gaze went to Meta and Jacob, who were both looking at her. The Cat sighed as she slipped around Quake then threw one hand forward. Quake gasped as she felt the Cat's hands pinch along her spine. She started to drop, but Cassie caught her and lowered her down.
Ghost and Patriot gasped at this. They then moved to race at Cassandra. Jacob grunted as he threw one hand up, two broken car doors ripped off the a vehicle and flew forward and blocked the duo's path. Ghost Spider readied to leap over them and Patriot to roll around them, but Metatron spoke in an unknown language. A dark mist appeared in one of his hands then he exhaled. The mist blanketed the area.
Quake grunted as she stood up after another minute, her friends helping her up. The trio hurried to a nearby rooftop and looked over the area around them. Their targets were gone.
Within a few moments though, it was gone and so were Metatron and his students. Quake grumbled.
"...Just...peachy..."
-Manhattan Streets, A Few Minutes Later-
Metatron, Cassandra, and Jacob slipped into an abandoned building. Jacob panted, hands on his knees. Cassandra grumbled under her breath, her hands clenched and shoulders tense. Meta's ears perked up and he sniffed the air.
"We've lost them."
Jacob nodded.
"Vulpine truly has them fooled...they won't stop hunting us until we're caught...and undoubtedly killed. That Fox won't take any chances of us speaking the truth."
"...Yes...Cassandra? I heard what the girl who attacked you said. How-"
Cassie walked off into another part of the building. When relatively in private she growled as she slashed the walls with her claws. Her claws made long marks on the wall. Her growling soon turned into crying as she dropped to her knees. The Cat's memory went back to her past, the remark Quake had made reinvigorated painful memories. She knelt there and sobbed for a time of which she wasn't sure.
Not long after, Meta and Jacob approached her. They both knelt beside her and each rested a hand on her shoulder. Cassie looked up and moved for a hug, which both men returned.
"I-I'm sorry, she-"
Jacob gently shushed her.
"You aren't a fault here, never think that. What your opponent said was cruel."
Meta sighed.
"It was meant to provoke you, she-"
Cassie's crying soon turned into a hiss.
"-she nearly learned some things said have dire consequences."
Her eyes were narrowed and teeth slightly bared. Though within a moment or so, the rage retreated.
"...But I won't be my parents...I won't be that fool...and...we had to be true to our word."
Meta nodded.
"You did well, Cassie. I'm proud of you."
"Thank you, Sensei...this is just so hard...all of this...we...we have to stop him and his master."
Jacob sighed.
"...If we don't...this world will meet the same fate as ours..."
Meta put a hand on either of his student's shoulders.
"We will avenge our people and our world...and do what we can for this one. For now, we must find a new place to find refuge. Come."
His students nodded and followed their sensei.
